About me: NW13 (neutral-cool toned, very fair), blue eyes, Color season is True Summer, Baumann Skin Type is OSPW.
This is a medium-dark reddish brown shade. I thought Espresso would be my favorite brown shadow from MAC, but I find myself turning to Handwritten more! I thought it would be too red, and possibly make my eyes look tired, but it does the opposite. The red in the brown is just enough to make my blue eyes pop. Great matte color, blends very well, alot of pigmentation - high quality from MAC.

Great colour to use in the crease, if you don't want something different to black to create a smokey eye. I find it takes a while to blend, but this could be because of less the average blending technique, so hopefully as time goes on, I'll become better at it. I really like this colour and if you haven't got any dark browns in your palette think about getting this

This has become my favorite eyeshadow color! I have light yellow based skin (Asian), black hair, dark brown eyes. This eyeshadow really compliments my coloring. I received the most compliments from this eyeshadow than any other. It looks espresso brown in the pan but when applied in a sheer swatch, you can see the purple undertones. It didn't come up red for me. For more of red undertone, go for Mulch. I think purple suits the greatest variety of undertones and I love that thus brown eyeshadow has just a hint of it. as you build up the color, you get more of what you see in the pan. Beautiful color!

I just read the reviews and decided to write one too, but I love this shadow for my eyebrows! I color my hair with medium auburn and medium mahogany mixed together by Robert Craig. I like to stay with a warm/cool balance of red.
I don't even know what first made me try it on my brows but it is the perfect color for me. This is the second eye shadow that I have hit the bottom on and will buy again. The first one was Blanc type, which is the best white matte eye shadow that I have ever used.

The colour is beautiful, but I found this shadow very difficult to work with. It applies very dark at first, but when I started to blend it seems to fade and it needs frequent re-dipping into the pan. At the same time, parts of the shadow didn't blend at all and left some darker, uneven patches on the eye. I have given up. I also have Plumage (which is supposed to be as stubborn to blend) and no problems with that colour at all.

This is my favourite crease colour! MAC eyeshadows are sometimes hit and miss in terms of pigmentation, but this is such a wonderful shade. I've used it wet as an eyeliner too

this is a beautiful velvety chocolate brown with a hint of plum! it's buildable and very versatile. i avoided this for a long time thinking that it would be too cool for me, but i actually think it's quite a warm eyeshadow that just acts as a cooler colour because of the plumminess. i wear this colour in my crease when i want something more than a regular brown. it's versatile because it can be used lightly or built up to be very rich. so it's not as dark as 'Embark' for example, but it glides on much smoother, so can just be layered on for all the intensity you want. the consistency of this is also just a dream!
i would definitely recommend.

A very pretty brown with red undertone. Great for deepening the crease, defining the upper lashline and smoking the lower lashline. This shadow is a great substitute for black if you're looking for something softer.

I wish MAC made more matte2 eyeshadows (there are only 6 permanent right now). Super smooth and blendable, long-wearing and crazy pigmented. Handwritten is a deep dark velvety brown with red undertones. Great as a liner, crease, lower lashline color or even for a smokey eye. Just be careful in this case because it can be too warm all over the lid.

Perfect for crease contouring, eyebrows, smokey eye looks, eyeliner and all-over lid application. Buildable colour that does stay all day with the help of a primer. A good look to try with it would be a smokey eye using Handwritten and any golden toned shadow (I use Carefree, which I think is now discontinued). Then use Handwritten on your lower lash line and join it the the smokey effect on your lid. Line your top waterline with a black pencil and half of your bottom waterline with the black pencil. Use the golden shadow or a highlighter in the corner of your eye to brighten up the look and blend it into the colour on the bottom of your eye. Definitely worth a try!

I dont see why everyone is crazay about the this product :/
Its a good eye shadow but not as pigmented as everyone says :(
However i mixed and layered it with shadowy lady from MAC and then i was happy with results. I wish i knew of some brand that makes super pigmented moose like eye shadows with these intense colors.

I have to admit I ordered this direct from MAC while not seeing this in person - so I basically took a gamble on this. I got this after all the positive reviews on here, and was after yet another brown eyeshadow (I have lots, but I love brown/neutrals). So, when it arrived I was a little underwhelmed, and haven't really used it. But today I have reached for it and teamed it with brule, and all I can say is WOW! This is the most gorgeous brown I have in my collection. It really makes me blue eyes pop! How could I have not used this before? Its the most delicious rich brown, and so so easy to blend. I think I actually (dare I say it) prefer this to Mac's Brun! Have to say, I can see this being used so much more often now :o)

Good brown color, but more than just brown. I use it in the corner and crease of my eyes. TWO things I love about this: it is the Matte2 formula (the best with veluxe Mac makes) and it has tones of red and mauve that come out depending on what you pair it with. I love Fig for the outer V and this in the crease and I get a purplish hue from it. With tfsi this lasts 8 hours, it will work in the day time but I think of it as a night time color. Like all Matte2's, it's smooth, blendable and does not fade. Very dif from the regular matte colors, of which there are more, unfortunately.

I really like this eyeshadow, it looks so great on and it's a great shadow to use for a "dramatic natural" look. I use it a lot in my everyday make-up's and yeah, I love it! :)

I like Handwritten, it's a good matt crease colour but i personally always seem to opt for Embark more than Handwritten, But i do like to use Handwritten in the crease, blend it out to give the crease warmth then darken the crease with Embark for a gorgeous smokey eye. <3

I love the matte2 formula, but this color pulled too red on my skintone. It does blend well and has good pigmentation and nor chalky at all. I wish mac would make more eyeshadows in this nice finish. Wish the color had worked out better. For reference: nc 35 latina dark brown eyes and dark brownish blackish hair.

Gorgeous brown!
This is a very pigmented, dark matte brown.
It's super blendable and creamy, it's really fab for the crease, the outer V or as a liner!
It doesn't crease and it lasts all day!
:)

I love this eyeshadow. I find it so beautiful. I love how the colour is so natural but yet bold at the same time.
