This is THE perfect red for my skintone. I love the color so much on me. For reference, I am NC42. It's not as bright as Russian Red, which I also love, but it's still beautiful and it does stand out. It's a deeper Russian Red imo. I like wearing it matte with some lipbalm underneath. It's not overly drying as other matte lipsticks are or anything but its doesn't moisturize either. If I feel my lips are drying, I just apply a coat of clear gloss to make my lips feel more comfortable.

i bought this shade anticipating that it would llook similar to MAC's Veruschka. Unfortunately, it doesn't. The color is far lighter and has a kind of like a light berry color..to light for my complexion. Ome reviews stated that the color was, "Deep". Not true.

This is such the perfect red for me. The Mattenes last forever on my lips, especially with a little yu-be lip balm on top. I don't like to put a gloss over this because I like the matte red lip look. It is so bold and gorgeous.

Love the color, beautiful classic looking red though a little drying. Wonderful with a gloss over top to give it a little bit more hydration.

This is a briiiight berry/wine red. I'm a little lighter than NW/NC15 and this is a very flattering shade of red when fully applied. I'm still getting used to red on myself as I usually don a more subtle lip. I had to post an FOTD w/ Rapturous on just to make sure I wasn't totally embarrassing myself while wearing this. My only gripe is that it fades to a really bright pink after eating/drinking/kissing :O etc. Sort of high maintenance, but a very beautiful shade of berry red none-the-less.

I really like the packaging on these: a slim rubberized tube housing pigment-drenched color. The formula gives a semi-matt effect, which means it is not too drying. And for those with very dry lips, there are lipglosses from this collection (Cult of Cherry) that you can layer over this.

I was not, at first, planning to buy this, since I am so in love with Viva Glam I, but I swatched it and fell in love with this as well. It is a lovely, rich, blue-based red, to my eyes. Somewhat less blue-based than Viva Glam, but on the cooler side, nonetheless. It goes on smooth and has great staying power. I also love the fact that the tube is slim enough so I don't need to use a brush. Otherwise red lipsticks tend to 'go over' my lip line when applied from the tube. I would, however, recommend a lip brush for sheerer coverage. I usually just go for the full-out drama/ glam effect straight from the tube and it is so wonderfully opaque and vibrant. Works great with a drama queen eye (this Fall's essential smokey eye), or even a simple demure eye with tan shimmering shadow and black eye liner. Loads of mascara (Love that!) or the lip threatens to overpower the face.

My favorite of all the mattenes. A beautiful rich merlot shade. A completely wearable red and it makes lips look very luscious and sexy.

Did I mention how much I love this color!?! Get it!

Oh how I love this shade...I shied away from it since it was a re-release with Cult of Cherry, but then I tried it on and fell in love...I noticed another reviewer mentioned that it was close to Rougette, yet I think this is less wine, less blue and more of a deep blood red with a hint of berry, at least on my lips. There's no other way to describe how it looks on me except gorgeous! Every time I wear this I get crazy compliments. It's like the perfect deep red for me.

I love the Mattenes and don't find them particularly drying at all. This shade wears so well too. I love this with a touch of Cult of Cherry l/g on top when I want to go from the matte finish to something more glam for evening.

Rapturous is an incredibly wearable color and probably my favorite intense red shade ever...Do I get a backup? Hmmmmm......well, yeah, I did...two, in fact! lol...

so i bought this online..i loved the swatch and the color description..however when i opened it i was really disappointed with the color...it's more of a deep wine than a deep berry red...live and learn...i already know that MAC's swatches online don't always match the actuall product..oh well

i really love the packaging on the mattenes, but this color, not as pretty as the swatch on the website led me to believe. it was actually quite disappointing. long lasting color though, but didn't wear as nice as the others that i own. i wouldn't purchase again there are prettier colors in this line out there.

The color is gorgeous but I found the formula to be very drying. It also faded in weird patches. The packaging is very nice (much nicer than the classic bullet shape) but unfortunately I will be returning this. My search for the perfect red lipstick continues...

Rapturous is a beautiful blue-red that I have been looking for.
I also wanted to get Classic Dame but it looks so bright and orange-red that didn't look good on me. Then I tried Rapturous and loved it. The matte texture is really nice and long lasting. I think this color is underrated. It is my favorite color from the Mattene collection. Wish they would make it permanent but MAC keeps pushing their customers with limited edition items.

I originally wanted Classic Dame because I am such on a red kick lately. While Classic Dame was very nice, it was WAY too bright for my skintone and didn't really compliment me at all. Fair skinned ladies will look fierce but classic. That's when Rapturous caught my eye. It looked like a darker version on Classic Dame in the tube. It looked almost like a crimson or deep blood red. MAC describes thi as a berry red. But I disagree, on my lips (which are pigmented) it has no obvious purple or pink undertones which I love. It also makes my teeth look really white, which I love. It reminds me a bit of Besamè's cherry red. Overall, I LOVE the formulas of the Mattenes. They aren't overly dry (like MAC's other retro reds), apply very opaquely and last for a very long time. I am considering purchasing a back up because this color is so timeless and classic. A definite must try for MMMs and darker. For the lighter ladies, try before you buy because I can see this looking very dramatic and a bit avant garde if you don't pull off darker colors very well.

This is not a cut-and-dry review for me, because while the product itself is very good, it is not a product suited for me. Rapturous is a beautiful rich berry-red, it is just gorgeous with my coloring (light skin, blue eyes, dark brown hair). The formula of the lipstick is indeed matte, but not ultra-matte. It applies smoothly and beautifully, and the color stays stays true, pigmentation is fantastic. It also feels comfortable on the lips. So what's the problem? The problem is that matte finishes tend to be....um....well, I'll just say it -- a matte finish is aging. If you're 20-something, no big deal. If you're 30-something, maybe a big deal, maybe not, depends. If you're upper-30s and above, matte lipstick is just not such a good idea. Like I said, the color itself is simply beautiful with my coloring, but the finish of the lipstick took away from the glow of my skin and just made me look.....older. Yes, throwing some lip balm over the top made it look better, but what's the point of doing that when there are some great creamy formulas on the market that last a good amount of time (Px Colorscope, for instance). I have to pass on the Mattene...

Beautiful deep berry red ! I love the rich pigment and the finish. Not at all drying or too sheer. I wish that these weren't limited edition =(

Adore this lipstick. Very rich intense deep red. Another reviewer suggests it for a goth look. Well... maybe. I think of it as a very very Madame Executive power deep red. Matte without being scarey dusty dull, and still supple and comfortable on lips - lips don't flake and crack as with so many early matte formulas. Wore very well through a 5 course wine tasting dinner - lots of food and lots of wine, and stayed put and looked just about fresh at end of meal, approx 4 to 5 hours after application. Come to think of it, did not notice much transfer to glasses, either. If anyone else remembers the old YSL slim line Rouge Pur mat lipsticks from late 80's early 90's, this is a dead ringer for #7, which was my most loved and lamented lipstick.

Impressions on first wearing of "Rapturous:"
I agree with the previous reviewer; "Rapturous" is a deep, deep berry red. I detect just the sliiightest hints of brown, too. Maybe even a touch of wine.

"Rapturous" is gorgeous, but very similar to "Rougette." Unless you have a "thing"for berry lipsticks, and/or you're obsessive about having your lips EXACTLY match your outfit, you probably won't want both.

Since I'm obsessive, I have both, and they're both bee-yoo-tee-ful!

I expect to wear these often this fall.

I like the Mattenes, which offer the intense color payoff and tenacious wear of a matte, without the dry feel. I'm not a particular fan of the slim packaging, though; as a full-lipped woman, I found it a bit tricky to get the color on straight.

Cost($14.50 USD) and taste(pleasant vanilla) are the same as the regular lipsticks.I'd be willing to buy "Rapturous" again, though I don't expect to need to.

FURTHER NOTE:I like to use MAC Beet pencil with this, to bring out the red tones. I also like to top "Rapturous" with a bit of Ruby Red pigment, plus just a drop of Lustrewhite gloss.Result: luscious-looking deep raspberry(or maybe cranberry) lips, with a slight shimmer. Not a half bad look for fall. ;)
ANOTHER NOTE: I still LOVE this, and I've found that it's fun to play with Rapturous by varying the liner used with it.

Rapturous + Cranapple cremestick = Perfect cranberry red

Rapturous + Red Enriched Cremestick = Gorgeous deep red, almost burgundy, with more subtle berry tones

Rapturous + Beet pencil = Deep, deep red, almost ruby, with maybe a touch of raspberry
All of these combinations yield a gorgeous result; it just depends on the look I want on a given occasion. Rapturous is a wonderful, and very treasured, lipstick!

I just picked this up 2 days ago... and I absolutely ADORE this lippie!!! Not only is it matte, but it doesn't leave my lips super dry, it doesn't bleed and it glides on so smoothly!!!
This colour is described on the MAC site as being a "deep berry red" and this is true for once!!! It is a very intense and deep red, and it totally flatters my skin tone (Which is super super white). Now I generally go for the goth/vamp look, so if this is not you- I would not look at getting this colour, but perhaps classic dame (which is a super super bright blood red) or even seriously rich (which is a pink red colour). Everyone was staring at me wearing it, as it is definitely a WOW colour.. I am very impressed and will purchase this again!!!!
