I only review the left sight of this duo which is a matte light purple with some greyness. I actually use it from Nars 9951 palette. I love this color. I have neutral towards warm light white skin with yellow undertone. And I have brown eyes. With the left side of Violetta on my eyelids, my eyes look bright. And my whole face looks neat and subtle. I have Tokyo duo too. I definitely prefer this purple to tokyo's. Tokyo's right side is a bit red than this one. Will repurchase with no doubt.

I probably would buy this product again if I ever ran out of it. I have hazel eyes and purple just works for me. The brighter shade has a very subtle shimmer and if worn on the mobile lid, over my iris, makes my eyes pop. But the other shade, which is a creamy, soft mat lilac-taupe, is a great contour shade for me. I love it with black mascara and YSL Indian Orange lipstick for an evening look.

This is my 3rd NARS duo ( I have Alhambra & Underworld). I really wanted to wear purple eyeshadow but most other purple eye shadows are way to bright and not subtle enough for me. The violet colors in this duo are very soft and muted, so if you use a light hand you could wear it to work or at school without looking like the Evil Queen from Snow White. :)

The matte shade applies very smoothly (not chalky) and pretty much casts a blue tone to my eyelid. The shimmery purple is not gritty at all and is the usual buttery NARS consistency. I have not experienced any fall out.

I have only rated it as a 4 due to the price, and because I don't wear purple shadow every day.

Unique shades, very pigmented. The price is OK £23.50 for 4g. Not bad considering the smart container with a large mirror and how fab these colours are.
Lilacs and violets are tricky colours. When used correctly they make you look fresh and young... but it's easy to go too far and look either goth or like an 80's pub landlady. This duo is impossible to go wrong with though- the shades work together perfectly, giving a fresh modern look! So beautiful!
I've purchased this duo mostly for the metallic purple on the right as it's perfect for the daytime-to-night smoky eye. The matte mauve on the left is a shade that probably no sane person would probably buy on its own, so I'm very happy I got it in this set as it's a gorgeous and very wearable colour, just odd.
I'm a NW20 with blue-grey eyes and Violetta makes my eye colour pop. I usually use it with matte MAC Blanc Type on my brow bone. Great fresh and professional look for work, but sexy enough for a hot date.
The only downside is that the matte mauve goes too powdery when swiped with some brushes, wasting a bit of product. Still worth every penny.

This duo is more of a "quiet" purple, so I can understand the negative reviews here that say people were looking for more vibrant, louder shades. For me, though, that's what sold me; the purples are understated and elegant but STILL clearly purple, giving me a chance to play with color in a daytime school/work look without feeling overly done or too dramatic.

I especially love the matte, mauve-ish color. It's so, so gorgeous, and really brings out my blue eyes. I haven't seen many others like it--can't wait to experiment! The shadow texture is smooth and easy to blend (as it really should be with the price). Will definitely repurchase.

This is a really pretty subtle look that is great for day. If you want a more intense sparkly violet color try mac violet pigment. I like this duo for a pretty understated look.

I have always wanted to get the Tokyo duo. But when I swatched this in person, Violetta is so much more interesting than Tokyo. The matte smokey lavender shade on the left is almost exactly like the darker shade in Tokyo, except sans shimmers. Nars's mattes are always so silky and doesn't look like powder on the skin. And this is no different. I like using this shade as an all over wash to look polished for the office. It's also excellent as a blending colour in the crease area when going for a dark smokey eye. I like using the shimmery purple on the right on the lower lash line as a contrast to my brown eye. I do find it's not very pigmented to be used on its own though, so I always pair it with a purple eyeliner underneath.

I was lemming the Violetta duo ever since my first visit to a live Nars counter. The purple shade is exactly what I gravitate towards - a pretty purple with some shimmer and a little bit of unique twist. It seemed a little frosty and gritty when I swatched it in store, but when I finally got my own (thanks to the lovely gal I swapped with), I was shocked at how smoothly it blends, and how pigmented it is. It's not gritty at all, and looks just as pretty on my eyes as it does in the pan. Unfortunately, the other shade is very blah, and I can only describe it as nothingness. However, to its credit, it's very soft and silky nothingness (it's the sister of Lightfall from Mac's Shadowy lady quad), and it does have its uses, especially for those who like neutrals. I use it as a base, but the reason I'm keeping and loving this duo is because of the violet shade.

I have the matte shade in my pleasures of paris palette but I HAD to buy this because of the purple on the right.. you see girls, THIS is how much I love purples! I think the matte shade is quite unique, when applied its a mauvy shade that would make a great lid colour with dark purples/browns in the crease but I experimented and this works excellent as blush, it'll give you a raspberry/pink colour on fair skin (I'm NC 20) but for medium skin girls you can always mix this with your pink blushes to get a paler pink. I think this looks a lot like Armani's newest blush in #12.

The beautiful metallic purple shade on the right is the prettiest medium purple I've ever seen period!

The color combo is lovely on me - NC15/Blue Eyes. The darker purple is a much nicer texture than the matte one. You can work with the matte but it's not as easy and there are definitely better matte lilacs out there - Shu Matte Purple 702 is my all time favorite. I would not repurchase this because I have lots of purple NARS singles that I like as well as the one shade and prefer the Shu over the other. But, not a bad little duo.

Uploaded an EOTD using this duo - you can see at the top of the page.

I'm not sure why people are saying that this duo is not very pigmented. The shadows are super pigmented, but they just happen to be very soft colors. I use the matte shade on the lid and the shimmery lavender shade in the crease - I love the combination of matte and shimmer. This duo goes great with my medium yellow skin tone and really brings out my green eyes. I wear it with Nars Mambo eyeliner (a warm brown), but for a cooler look you could pair it with a gray liner. I also think this due looks great with Nars lipstick in Porte Vecchio.

The pigment is definately a little weak in this duo. A matte light lavender shade and a shimmery lilac, soft purple. Really pretty shades but both are very sheer so you really need to add alot. And then it still faded since its so light. Retails for $32.

NARS is one of my favorite brands ever, but this duo just did not amaze me. I bought it online at Sephora.com because I though the colors looked beautiful, but I found that texture of this particular duo were different. Maybe it was just me? The bright purple was somewhat pretty, but the other matte shade of purple included was almost invisible in pigment...not making it worth the $31. I had to return this afterall..

Gorgeous duo on my yellow-olive toned LLL/MMM skin. I can wear the metallic side alone, but think the colors are best used together. The matte, violet/gray shadow works as a great base for the shiny violet color. It adds depth and deepens the purple tones for a soft and pretty smoky eye. The pigment and finish of both colors are nice. Many purples on the market are either too dark and garish or pink, or veer towards light and murky lavenders. This duo is perfect. I don't like to pull out all sorts of differents colors to make a color work.

Over Penelope or Pearl Beach cream, the Violetta duo has a very wearable violet quality! Violet can be overly goth, this duo is just other-worldly pretty!

I wish i could give this a 3.5. I LOVE the right metallic shade. Its a light perfectly metallic violet. The other side is a chalky looking paler violet that actually blends out to be deeper than the right side! I cant see myself using this shade as much as the metallic one.

I was way excited when the SA at Lord & Taylor gave me the sneak peek of the Holiday 2007 stuff. I ended up getting this one. The left side is a taupey-gray-lilac color with a matte finish, and the right side is a light, shimmery lilac-purple. I would say that these colors are fairly unique. The matte color could be built up for a smokey eye, and the shimmery color really makes my brown eyes pop.

For reference, I am NC25 with dark eyes and hair.
