I never heard much about this perfume and came to have some quite by accident. Yes it opens with quite a blast of the old Johnson and Johnson's Baby P., but other elements boldly push their way forward within nary minute or two and quite a melange of sweet, salty, buttery and sexy ones they are.
This perfume might be categorized among others including Amouage Gold (with which it shares phenomenon of ridiculously boffo opening) and FK Pour le Soir and it holds its own very well in this company. Yum. Drydown could be more emphatic though.
I recently revisited Shalimar and smelled L'Heure Bleu and have to disagree that they are similar to this perfume. Also Bois d'Armenie is a cousin or something but I've come to love Aki more than any of those I've compared it to.

Amber, baby powder and woods. The drydown is better than the beginning.

Simply put, Tan Rokka's Aki is the lovechild of Guerlain's L'Heure Bleu and Shalimar. Aki is a sweet-ish, predominantly amber/sandalwood fragrance with a great deal of powder and a smattering of spices. It is surpringly strong so be sure to apply it sparingly as this is one of those perfumes that could easily end of "wearing you"! As compared to Aki, I much prefer Becker Eshaya's Golden Amber for amber, or 10 Corso Como or Diptyque's Tam Dao for sandalwood.
Here are Aki's notes, courtesy of The Perfumed Court: amber, patchouli, sandalwood and vetiver.

This smells like baby power. Ambery baby powder. After drying down for a bit there is some woodiness and the amber becomes stronger. It's nice and worth checking out if you like baby powder-ish scents but it's pretty basic. I much prefer profumum Alba for this type of scent. That one is very rich and has some depth and a little more interest to it. This one is a very nice scent, but it left me feeling...so what?

Aki is a warm fragrance and I normally don't like any sort of amber or patchouli notes in my perfume, but this scent surprisingly smells very nice. Honestly if those notes are in this perfume, they are not at all detected, in fact blended quite well. It has a soft powdery note that is difficult to explain, but I'm strangely intrigued by it. This can be quite close to a skin scent, a musk perhaps. This perfume can easily be worn by a man as well. I am utterly surprised that this fragrance has stunned me, I really love this perfume!

I was very surprised to experience this scent as a musky wood polish (Pledge?) with a powdery finish. Somehow it's really not behaving on my skin the way it seems to behave for others - and I'm a big fan of ambery woods fragrances in general, my favorite being Sweet Amber Woods by Ava Luxe.

I am so unhappy I ordered this unsniffed. I love, love, love KISU. But do not like this one at all. It does not last very long on me a few hours at best(unlike Kisu all day long). It starts out sweet and smells alot like baby powder. When it dries down it's a little better. But all in all I am not happy with this purchase. Does not smell like Ambre de Napal. I like AdN.

Aki is the type of wood-over-amber blend you'll place immediately if you're into amber fragrances. In the progressive stages of its drydown I recognized shadows of other amber-based or amber-containing scents. An opening blast of cedar subsides immediately to an almost absinthey woody blend, reminiscent of Serge Lutens Douce Amère. The drydown is truly dry, bringing dark, baby-powdery hints of Molinard Habanita, earthy Mazzolari Lei, slightly herbal Montale Blue Amber, and bergamot-heavy Anné Pliska and Fifi Chachnil, all atop a resiny honeyed base. Aki isn't terribly original as amber blends go, but it scores major points with me for being smoother, softer, and better balanced than most or all of the aforementioned scents. Its closest kin is probably Anné Pliska, but no one will ever accuse Aki of smelling like a creamsicle. Aki clings close to the body and begs to be smelled over and over again. When I first tested it I was thinking 3 or 4 lippies because my initial reaction was "been there, done that," but in two short hours it won me over.
