How do I love thee Orpheus eyeliner -- let me count the ways! Hands down one of my favorites. Try it as an alternative to black for a really sexy cat eye. Worn with black mascara and maybe a little swipe of MAC's Teddy eyeliner on the waterline -- and wow. Makes your eyes standout. I thought this was a limited edition from MAC but not sure. I hope not!

My favorite MAC eyeliner. I wear it daily. I find black liner to harsh so Orpheus is a perfect shade, dark but warm at the same time with a hint of golden. Perfect for blue eyes. Smudges nicely too.

I got this item in a swap and have used it just about every single day. There are so many ways to wear this liner: by it self, smudged like a shadow, layer it with other liners. I've almost used this up, and I'm so glad I was able to get another one in swap!

I love the color of this pencil (almost a tarnished gold/black fusion). It goes very well with neutral/taupe/gold shadows...which is mostly what I wear. This is less smudgey than pearlglide intense liners...but almost to a fault. My pencil does tug a little bit but I could probably avoid that if I just rubbed the tip in between a kleenex or something before application - either way the tugging is not bothersome enough to make me stop using it. I WISH i had bought some backups of this unique shade!!

Picked this up yesterday at the CCO and when I tested it on my hand, the color was just amazing. A dark but shimmery color, with a lot of gold/olive shimmer. I paired it with NYX herb up to my crease last night and it really made my hazel eyes pop. I can see this being an everyday color for me. I will say that the liner wears a little fast. It's super creamy and goes on smoothly but I can see where that would lead to decreased wear. CCO had it for $9 and I am very happy that I snagged this! I took one lippie off for the wearability.

LOVE this. I am not usually an eyeliner girl, just too much work and I am not good at making staright lines haha. But this is such a pretty color and goes on so easy, I find myself wearing it almost every day lately! It is a lovely grey-ish black with gold/green shimmer. Regular black and brown just look too harsh on my pale skin, this is perfect.

Very pretty greenish gold liner, very shimmery. It doesn't show up as much as I would like but it doesn't smear as bad as Feline. This liner was LE. I think this would look better over a dark base.

Orpheus is the most beautiful eyeliner I have ever used. The colour (soft black with muted gold sheen) is incredibly versatile and very flattering to my hazel eyes and medium/warm skin tone. I can wear it with taupe, gold, brown, olive or even plum shadows and it complements them all. I managed to get three extra pencils before stock ran out so hopefully by the time I've used all these (and I use it nearly every day I love it so much) MAC will have put it in their permanent collection.
Update: I use this nearly every day. It is my HG eyeliner. Love the colour, the texture and the wear. Why on earth is this not in the permanent collection? Is MAC mad??

This is my HG eye liner! This pencil is an amazing colour. It's a soft smokey black base mixed with a muted gold pearl that makes for a beautiful liner. Sure this liner doesn't have the best staying power but i don't wear it on the waterline rather i put it just below sort of smudged into my lashes top and bottom. With this and a coat of mascara I'm set! This stuff is gorgeous and I'm seriously considering buying a backup!

Don't bother with this. The staying power is nil even with UDPP and I hardly ever have this problem. Save your money and get something else. I gave it a 2 because the color is pretty. I just wish it stayed on!

Aha! A great pencil from MAC. I have Handforged and Powersurge, two goldish bronze pencils that are HG's for my hazel eyes. They are light-ish, though, and if I were to design the PERFECT bronze with no warm brown or red tones, ORPHEUS would be it.

It goes on smoother than the regular khol pencils. Not sure of the wear; I gave it a try in the evening and did notice it washed off easily so I will update with all day wear info when I have it. But so far, I have to say I love this blackened gold-bronze and it looks like I need a backup.

****UPDATE: no lasting power at all. Came home after 8 hours and it was gonesville. I will try a powder eyeshadow over, but I think it is a lost cause. Needs reapplication. Every 3 hours.

I find Orpheus a wonderful eye pencil. It applies shimmery gold/hazel with blackish undertones (these are fairly understated, though - it's not a dark colour). I like that it's so smudgy and soft, and you can build it up nicely. Staying power is fair for a kohl, although obviously it's not one for those who want precision lining. Gives my eyes a subtly sparkling, luxe definition and works beautifully with a wide range of neutral and gold-oriented shades.

Not impressed at all. Mercier's Black Gold is a million times prettier and doesn't show up on me so this one has no hope at all. I think this is for people more fair than I. Click continue to see pics:

this is my first mac kohl liner and now i want the rest of the colors! my hg has always been revlon colorstay liners so i'm very picky when it comes to liners. i have to say tho that this doesn't have the staying power as revlon because this smudges very easily. i had a slight mark on my lid from blinking. it happened when i freshly lined my eyes. ..which almost made me give this a rating of 4.... but other than that i haven't had any other smudging all day. the color is absolutely beautiful. i wish revlon would make this kind of color. on me it's like a taupey shimmery liner w/ a black base. goes on smooth like butta..unlike revlon which tends to tug.

I'm not much on colored liner...its kind of black or nothing for me. I have blue eyes and cool pale skin so alot of the time I feel like a bronze liner would be flattering but to warm...thats where Orpheus comes in. Its a fusion of gold, hazel and maybe some black in he base of the color. It is so damn flattering next to my blue eyes and it works with either warm or cool eyesahdow colors! MAC has such a huge line now its hard for anything they offer to be unique but I think Orpheus is! Looks amazing paired with Starflash eyesahdow Smoke and Diamonds! Here is my easy 5 mins to smokey eyes look; Smoke and Diamonds eyeshadow all over the lid and up into the crease...White pigment over the crease and up to the brow blended down and around the inner corner and out edge of the eye...Orpheus lining the upper and lower lashline slightly smudged with whatever brush you used for S&D and White pigment...Engraved Powerpoint (black) eyeliner on the inner rims...curl lashes and black mascara! Quick, easy and looks so sexy but not to dark or bruised.

Oh. Wow. I think it's interesting because when I swatched this color on my hand, I didn't really see any black. I thought perhaps MAC was fibbing to us that all of them have a black base with colored sparkles. But when I put this on, it's *just right* for me. I'm very fair (blonde hair), so this provides just the right amount of dark-lining-power! My MA taught me how to use a pencil brush to smudge this liner out and it is absolutely gorgeous. I may have a new favorite. The biggest question, though, is to see how well it'll hold up during today with UDPP, and I'll update my review later. If it lasts decently, the color and softness alone will be justification to keep it. The Kohl Powers are just that fun to play with!

Edit - With UDPP, this liner lasted surprisingly well *all* day long on my upper lid. I was very skeptical after reading reviews and knowing it's a kohl product. On the lower lid, despite using a smidge of primer, the line was gone within a couple of hours (just under the lashes, not waterline). However, I'll give it credit because some smudgy color remained there for a large portion of the day. So it served its purpose and defined my lower lids, just not very crisply; it ran into the little creases. But as for ease of use, this ranks with the very best liners I've tried!

10/30/08 Edit - I took off one lippie because as I've sharpened Orpheus, the glitter is very rough on my eyelids. No 5 lippies for this item! Though the color is GORgeous, the texture of Urban Decay 24/7 liners are far better.

It took months to finally get one of this! Sold out before I could lay hands on it...but I got lucky and bought one online. I love it! It's not exactly as black as engraved. It's a bit on the grey side IMO but the gold shimmer is beautiful and the staying power surpasses all other MAC eyeliners I own (I have fluidlines, powerpoints and eye kohls, don't have technokohls). I have rather oily lids and even with UDPP eyelines/shadows don't tend to stick long.

Took one lippie off because the shimmer can't really be seen as gold...it's not very noticable.

Beautiful color, wonderful formula! I wish MAC would make all of these permanent, because they have usurped all others as my favorite eyeliners.

Overall, I love the color. The description is very accurate and the color comes off as being more gold/taupe than black. I generally always like to use this along my lower lashes and it really pops when using it over liquid black liner. It does really bring out the color in my eyes and make them pop (they are brown). Works great with various neutral/brown pigments/eyeshadow. Very flattering shade and would purchase this again.

I don't know how I didn't rate this before. Orpheus has become one of my HG e/l's. Everytime I wear this I get complimented on my eyes. I suck at describing things so I'll just say that it's a hazel brownish/taupe color. I have light brown eyes so it really brings them out when I wear Orpheus. The only thing that I may say negatively about Orpheus and eye kohls in general is that they fade throughout the day unlike fluidlines so it may not be best to wear it if you're going out to a club, etc. Orpheus is a great daytime eyeliner. I like wearing it the most with Gold Stroke pigment and champagne e/s in general. I love this so much that I got 3 backups!
