I had high expectations for this product, but it really does nothing for me. For reference, I have oily/combination skin that's acne prone. This powder gives me an ashy look. Towards the end of the day, it also seems to react strangely with my makeup (Stila tinted moisturizer) and I get darker, "orange" spots..
Update: I switched foundations and tried it again on just one side of my face to see if it made a difference. Nope.

Sadly it does not work on my extreme oily skin. I had very high expectation for this product, and i am very disappointed.
I bought full size jar w/o trying the sample first since its only $5.50. I have used very little, and liberally, the result is same: cakey makeup that melts off. I even used it as e/s primer, and oil on my lid was coming out like craze, even worse than no e/s primer. I've also bought powder primer, hope that one is better, but for now i don't even want to try other Fyrinnae product =(
Learn from EDM Fyrinnae!!
How can Rice powder melts off faster than anyother loose powders I own! :(

i think this works great for those with oily skin. i apply a little all over my face with a MAC 187 brush and then apply my liquid foundation over it. it keeps my foundation in place all day and keeps me from looking like a greasball by mid day. when i do get a little oily which isn't till waaaay later in the day (like 6pm) i can just add a little more on top of my foundation and it gets rid of the shine and my makeup looks fresh as if i just applied it. if you do apply it over foundation just make sure you use a VERY light hand or it can look a little cakey. after i ordered a sample of this i loved it so much that i purchased 3 jars! im already on my second jar =] i would say that a jar can last you about a year depending on your usage. i would repurchase

Dang, just figured out what has been breaking me out so bad!!! I was racking my brain... Didn't occur to me that this might be the culprit. I assumed this product is too 'inert' to cause problems.
My skin is not sensitive. But lately has been breaking out in angry red pimples (not hormonal ones). I think it's from this.
Will stop using as of today & update to let you know for sure.

Does not work for me. Well, it does not irritate my skin or break me out or anything, but it does not control oil either. Cannot feel any difference at all
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Update: I gave it a second try a few months later, and this time I became very happy with it! It does keep me shine free for hours! WOW!
This did not work at all for me. It kind of has a "grainy" texture at times that seemed to irritate my skin, and it seemed to suck all the moisture out of my skin and make it dry and caused burning. I used it once and figured out it is not for me. It didn't seem to do anything to help make my foundation last longer either, which is basically what I wanted it for.
I put most of what I got from my Fyrinnae order up for sale/swap (so not worth the 3 week wait to get them) and I expected people to jump all over the barely-used Fyrinnae products, but that was not the case at all.
Oh. My. Gosh. I've never used this term before, but... HG!! I love this stuff!! It keeps my makeup on all day and keeps me from getting shiny. Nothing has ever kept me from getting shiny. My T zone is oily 10 minutes after I wash my face, but with a light dusting of this before I put on my makeup, my nose is still nearly matte after 10 hours. Whoa! If you are thinking about buying this, stop hesitating! It's great!!
EDIT: ok, so it still helps with the oilies, but after a few hours, my nose is still an oily mess. Oh, well, the search continues!
I wanted to like this, but alas. Not happening. I only really get shiny on my nose, so i bought a cheap little sample jar of this and since i use so little, if it had worked out the sample jar would have easily lasted me a long, long time. so that's a huge plus - it's really cheap to try.
but that's about the only plus. i'm glad this works for so many other folks, but it really makes no difference for me at all. my quandary is that my (mineral) foundation looks awesome on every other part of my face BUT my nose, where it melts off immediately and i'm left with a red shiny nose.
i've tried using a lot of this primer, a little, a middling amount, over my foundation, under it, both under and over, i've applied it with a heavy and a light hand, it's just not making any difference, no matter what i do.
also the one day i decided to try it on my WHOLE face (not just my nose), it made the rest of my skin REALLY dry and tight and flaky.
but i should have known it would do that, so i'm not blaming fyrinnae for it.
bottom line: from what i've read about it (here and elsewhere), this is super-effective, HG material for like 7 out of 10 people who try it. considering that a sample is like a $1.13 + cheap shipping, it's still definitely worth it to try, even if it doesn't pan out.
My skin just didn't like this at all. It did nothing for me and was not smooth at all. If anything it left me with a grainy feeling and it irritated my pores enough to make them red and angry. Just not for me.
I really want to love this product. It does help control my oil (amazing!!), but, after about a week of use, I'm definantly breaking out from it. I'm so dissapointed!!
I ordered a sample of this with my Fyrinnae order and used it for the first time yesterday. It was a no makeup day (which of course means just a little!). I applied the primer and then a light dusting of my Px Custom Blend loose powder, I skipped my Clinique Pore Minimizer to see the real effects of the primer. I was really impressed! 8 hours later my forehead had a slight sheen to it. It also made the powder application so much smoother. The packaging of the sample kind of sucks (1 lippie off for that), so I dipped my brush in and then blotted on a tissue and that worked well. Will definitely pick up a full size with my next order.
I love Fyrinnae's products. This is the only primer I have ever tried, but it works great. I used this over the summer (when my skin turns very oily), and although I wouldn't rely just on this product to control oiliness, it definitely helped. What I love most about this product, though, is that it is wonderful for covering acne scars. It helps fill them in, so they're not as noticeable after applying foundation. My one gripe is Fyrinnae's processing time. I can't wait a month+ to get my order.
Bought this due to the raves here on MUA. Been using this the past two days and I'm loving it so far. Does not break out my moody sensitive skin and thought it doesn't keep the oilies at bay 100% it does a really good job at ridding my face of 75% shine. This is also great alone to tone down any shine from moisturizers or to make shiny m/u look a bit matte. When I was using this I thought it reminded me of Laura Mercier's Translucent Loose Setting Powder in the fact that it did all I described previously minus the cutting down oil. A makeup artist recommended the LM product to me earlier this year and I fell in love with it cause it's very versatile but sadly it breaks my skin out. It also bothered me that it has so many chemicals etc. in it. Fyrinnae's powder has like 4 or so ingredients and LM's has 19 so I'm happy to be using something that doesn't have so much stuff in it. Also the price?! I thought I'd be paying alot for a jar of Fyrinnae's powder and it was under $8(!) whereas the LM was $34. Very pleased with this primer and I thank MUA yet again for helping me find another gem of a product and saving me some $$. EDIT 3/30/09 This stuff breaks my skin out horribly. Takes forever for my skin to clear up after using it. Makes me really sad cause it works great in keeping my skin shine free and matte.
I've held off reviewing this for a while now. I got this back when it was the talk of the town, and on the mua top picks. I've used it many different ways, with many different products. I've applied it with a brush, and with a puff. I've applied it before foundation and after ( mineral, liquid, powder and cream ). So in my experience, on my oily skin ( which is new to me, ever since I had my second son, my skin is all of a sudden an oil slick ) , this does NOT control oil. Actually, I'm not exactly sure it does much of anything, except set a liquid foundation like any other transluscent powder would. But, for the price, why not give it a shot, right? I'm sure it works for some, just not for me.
A little bit goes a long way with this. This is great on days where I look super oily, and it just absorbs it right away. I usually put it on over foundation but before concealor. I don't kow if that's the right way to go about it, but that's what I do, and it works for me. I usually tap it out into the lid, or onto a tissue or something, and work fromthere. You dont need very much, a pinch is enough for the entire face. it's very reasonable priced. I would repurchase.
Sorry but my oily t-zone laughs at this primer. I tried it under MMU, over MMU, tried it with different MMU's.... I give up. For me this is barely any different to the rice primer from Everyday Minerals. It's slightly better in that it helps with preventing the mid-afternoon disintegration of my makeup but it is equally poor at mattifying. It's a shame as I really thought this would be "the one" but I am now moving on to experimenting with silicone primers. Silicones seem to work better for me.
After reading all the postitive reviews I definitely had high hopes for this stuff. My main reason for trying it was definitely the oil control that so many people have found with it. Unfortunately for me, this doesnt seem to make any difference. I brush it on my skin before makeup and still I am fairly shiny a few hours later. As a primer however, it is quite nice. My makeup does look very airbrushed all day but Im not sure if that'll be enough to tempt me to buy it repeatedly especially at the long shipping times. The price is right, and I really wish I could have seen the results that so many here seem to have but I just didnt at all. I tried in the evening also, without makeup, just smearing it on my nose and chin to see what it would do and still the shine poked through within 2 hours.
My HG primer! I don't go a day without wearing this. It has silica in it so it gives the skin a nice glow to it. It absorbs oil without accentuating flakiness.
I noticed some people saying it looks "grainy" on - I think that the problem might be application. As per the Fyrinnae website, you only need a teeeny amount. I barely put any on my brush before I apply.
Would repurchase.
I actually forgot that this was supposed to control oil and stuff so I didn't really pay attention to that part. I'll review this as a primer.
I don't really use primers but this is my favorite. I used to use EDM's Peach concealer all over my face to cover my scars and stuff on its own. No primer or anything. Then when I blot or wipe away sweat, it will fade. Boo. So for the first time, I buffed this primer in and used my EDM over it.
When I blotted like six hours later, there was barely anything on the tissue paper. Unlike previous times when the concealer would be wiped off, this time the tissue was clean! I was sold immediately.
The only downside? It doesn't come with a sifter in the sample jar so you have to be careful with how much you tap onto the lid. Btw, I love that Fyrinnae gives out free eyeshadow samples along with orders. Even if I don't use them. =)
EDIT: Wore this a couple more times, paying attention to the oil control factor. This really does work! Okay, I have combination skin and my T-zone gets super oily sometimes when I stress out.
This stuff is like magic, seriously. I had to blot ONCE and the oil never came back. Granted, there was still a bit of shine but that didn't bother me at all! Love, love, love this stuff.
