Age: 25-29   Skin: Combination, Fair-Medium, Warm   Hair: Blond, Wavy, Medium   Eyes: Blue

Notes: bergamot, orange bigarade, citron, clove, myrtle, cannelle, cognac, patchouli, leather, animal notes.

This fragrance opens with a citrus and spice accord. It is tart and sweet like freshly-squeezed orange juice with an interesting spice and patchouli accent underneath it. The dominant spice note is clove, but it is well-balanced. As the fragrance progresses, it loses most of this warmth and sweetness and the patchouli and leather notes take over. When this happens, very close to the skin, the fragrance smells cold and strangely metallic, some say musty. Thankfully this is only temporarily and the base turns into a beautiful myrtle patchouli leather combination. Further away the fragrance is still warm with a touch of orange; in this stage it reminds me a lot of Orange Star during the dry down. Whilst both are very nice fragrances, they are not something I’d buy. Lasts for more than 4 hours.

Given all the mystique enhanced by odd names and at least one nose-scruncher in the Etat Libre d'Orange line (guess which one that is!), I was a little wary of "Je Suis Un Homme". Well, I needn't have been because it is a relatively tame fragrance that smells like a variation on the theme of citrusy eau de cologne for men. In fact, I am surprised that Etat Libre d'Orange bothered to make this perfume at all as it just doesn't have any shock factor.

Je Suis Un Homme is basically an inoffensive mixture of Petit Grain, Bergamot and Musk which is competent but doesn't knock my socks off. I think I'll stick with Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet, Roger et Gallet's Extra Vieille and Rochas' Eau de Rochas when I'm in the mood for a light citrus perfume.

Here are the notes, courtesy of The Perfumed Court: bergamot, orange bigarade, citron, myrtle, cinnamon, clove, cognac accord, leather, patchouli and animalic notes.

Excellent men’s fragrance, but not so masculine that a woman would feel weird wearing it. Brief citrus start, then leather and wood with birch tar, but not too dark or bitter, no turpentine smell. Warm, sophisticated, snuggly. Really excellent! Note – Luca Turin compares it to Guerlain Derby.

Ooops, the nice guy (pleasant citrus topnote) you took home with you after meeting him at the bar last night has departed with embarassing speed. Obviously, he was a bit disconcerted by the fact that he woke up in a bed he didn't belong in. If memory serves you, you had a quite nice time, though (very faint traceof amber and wood). Ummm, maybe it wasn't so great after all. The pillow suddenly smells of dry shampoo and not quite clean skin. Best shower, wash the sheets and forget about it all....
