Loving this lip color! It makes my skin look alive, my eyes pop & fades beautifully. I have medium neutral skin with a little olive tinge, brunette hair & green/brown hazel eyes. I tried it on in Sephora on a day I only had powder on & it is just so flattering, I can't believe it. I adore a product that allows me to wear less makeup & still feel pretty.
I'm not a big fan of stains, they dry my lips, then migrate all over my face or pill with lip balm. Not this one! It has a slightly drier texture than a balm, more like a sheer lipstick in a pot. It fades evenly & stays put with lip balm. A true plum with a blue violet sheen when applied, a sheer, buildable color. I love using it under my fresh Sugar Plum balm. I use the stain in the morning & touch up with the balm after lunch - highly recommend these two together.
If you want a color to be super rich & last for days on end, this one probably isn't for you. It does last a lot longer than regular gloss or balm, doesn't settle into lines or leave a crazy lip liner look as it fades. Moisturizing & a beautiful, wearable, flattering color.

Pretty impressed with this! I bought this to wear under my wildberry gloss, and it looks great together. Nice for this winter into spring season. Lasted over 4 hours on, and even thru pizza and drinking with a straw! I would love to try the other colors, these are really nice. Price was average. Ok with it coming in a pot, not so hygienic, but I like the color, so I wont complain! Overall, happy with the purchase. Would buy again.

I absolutely love this color ........ Laura Mercier has excellent quality and the lip stain in Sugar Violet is no exception .......... for those who are very pale, like myself, and who are unable to rock red lips, I suggest Sugar Violet ......... gives a nice finish and more importantly allows me to wear color on my lips without looking laughable. This is an excellent choice for PPP's. Sugar Violet also looks great paired with LM's Orchid Mosaic which I wear as a blush (add black mascara, and these three items give you a nice look, especially for winter.)

I really wanted this product. Tried it on in Sephora while on vacation(not available where I live) and loved it. Unfortunately the one I bought at that time turned out to be more brown then the tester so I'm not impressed. Be careful with this one, product batches seem to differ more then slightly.

Very happy with this purchase. Love the colour, suits my skin tone. On me it's an plumy amethest. It has good staying power, I wouldn't say it's the best. I've never understood why someone would mark it down for coming in a pot...it was in a pot when you bought it, if that's not what you were looking for, there's other things on the market. Would repurchase as well as pick up more Laura Mercier stains.

This lip stain is a gorgeous and unusual color. It looks very purpley in the pot but swipe it on the back of your hand and you can see that it has a lot of yellow undertones. This works very well for my fair, neutral/warm complextion. I usually can't wear purples--or anything too cool toned on my lips.
This is especially great to wear during the cooler months when I need a little more lip color to perk up my complextion.

Color:
This is a rich plummy brown with a definite sheen to it. I swapped for it untested, and lucked out: it definitely complements my coloring. I cannot wear reds, and most pastels look god awful on me.
Lasting power:
It is superior to a lipstick, and since it has shimmer I don't feel the urge to wear a gloss on top. Doesn't come off when kissing.
Texture:
I don't find it drying, but it's not as comfortable as wearing a balm, it has sort of a dry texture, but doesn't dry my lips if that makes sense. I like the look worn over a balm too, so works if my lips are particularly dry.
So I'm definitely happy with it, t has sparked interest in trying other "stains," and I might even repurchase if I ever ran out (seems unlikely).
*UPDATE 2010* still really happy with this - and I wanted to note that it multitasks on cheeks and eyes, at least for my coloring. They should market it as a multi-use product.

Just tried this product... Luv it. It is a very pretty color and nice texture.
I do not feel this is drying at all.
Looks nice on my lips, not feathering into my lines.
Price is alittle high, but I like many other lipstick junkies have lot's of others to to use so this should last a long while.

The color on this is awesome but It does make your lips a little dry and doesn't last as long as a lip stain should.

This is a great stain. You put it on and forget about it....and it is so moisturizing....not one of the stiff drying lip colors. I just have trouble finding it to swap....since I have sooooo much makeup I am trying to limit my purchasing for a while....but this may be the hair that broke the camel's back.

I love love love this color! its general. you can change it with a gloss but still keep and wonderful berry color underneath!
Paired with the lip silk your lips will never be the same!
I dont think that it is drying in the slightest! I've tried some stains (Laura Gellar) and they were sticky and drying!
I'm so glad i didnt have that problem with the LM stains!
Sugar violet looks difficult in the pot but i think eveyone should atleast give it a shot! be brave, just make sure you rub it in all the way! dont wear it like a lipstick or your wont get the lost last benefits from it!

Sugar Violet is OK, but not my favorite LM Lip Stain (Mulberry). I don't care for the slight shimmer in Sugar Violet. Also, the shade doesn't flatter me very much. I think for someone with darker skin it would be nice.

I never would have picked this color on my own; it was recommended by the SA when I had my m/u done at the counter. I really like this color. It's a pretty, fresh, purple-y berry color with a touch of shimmer to add some dimension. Looks surprisingly good on my NC20-25 warm skintone. The texture is quite nice - not moisturizing but not at all drying. I was a little hesitant to go for a stain because I expected it to be very drying but this isn't at all; I have regular lippies that are more drying than this. Does it last forever? No, but it does last for a good bit, while still being very comfortable on. I actually like it as it wears off, because it leaves a nice subtle tint. Sometimes I'll layer a nude gloss over this & it looks great. (The gloss makes the color a little more subtle.) I apply with a lip brush & I'm sure the pot will last a long time. I can't wait to try other shades.

Product - Love this shade. This shade is a rich rosy mauve with cool violet undertones - though with my warm AAB/NC25 coloring and pigmented lips, the cool undertones don't show on me as much as they do in the pot. On my lips it has a little iridescence to it too, which is nice and keeps the color from looking flat. Wears all day while looking like a sheer tint. The finish is satin with moderate coverage. Texture is a like lipstick: firm, smooth, slightly moist, and not sticky. It's not noticeably moisturizing, but I have eternally peeling lips and this does not dry out my lips.
Packaging - Wide round glass pot with shimmery brown LM screw-top lid. About the same size as BeneFit Creaseless Creams.
Overall - I love the Lip Stains in general (love the texture!) and this shade is perfect when I want something with a little more pop than Shy Pink.

This is a frosted deep berry/plum shade. Unfortunately, while it does stain the lips a bit, it is a very dry(ing) formula. I am using it by dabbing on a little bit of the Sugar Violet for staying power, and then putting LM's Peony Stickgloss on over top for moisture. But overall, I would tell you to save your money and just buy the Peony stickgloss.

Lip stain is moderately moisturizing and lasts a few hours. To my disappointment, the shade Sugar Violet is looked more red than cool berry on my very fair skin.

Worst $22 ever. With tax make that the worst $23.87. Sure the color and the finish are pretty but this my friends... is no stain. In fact, it wears off in about 2.5 minutes. A stain would actually stain, no? This just disappears into thin air, no staining involved. I have a cheapo Revlon lipstick that stains like the Dickens and wears for hours and the color is pretty close to this so I'll just stick to Revlon.

I love this! My lips are always so dry that I have only been able to use lip gloss. While moisturizing, gloss tends to be sticky and never lasts that long. Then I came across this lip stain. My previous attempts at stains left me a little skeptical (the two I tried-one by Sonia Kashuk and one by Revlon- were very watery and just looked BAAAD). I decided to buy this anyway and hope for the best. The best is definitely what I got! This color looks really dark and purple in the pot, but goes on a rosy/berry color. I have pale skin with light auburn hair and this doesn't look garish or clashy at all. It lasts forever and when it finally does begin to wear off, it does so naturally (no ring around your lips). While this isn't moisturizing, it certainly doesn't dry out your lips. This is pricey, but you don't need that much to get a nice affect and it seems like the nice-sized pot will last forever. All-in-all, a product worth its price tag.

First of all--Sugar Violet is a gorgeous color of deep rosy mauve with violet hues. Feels like a balm with a satin finish. On first application, the stain is gloss, but the gloss diminishes quickly. I applied with a lip brush. I find that I need to reappy often. Don't care for the glass pot--would have been better for purse transport in a lighter and non-breakable container. May purchase again, but would rather this same color be available in a satiny lipstick. Price is a bit steep when Rimmel has a similar product (Loudmouth lipgloss in Smooch) for 1/3 of the price.
