First of all, it is a very good thing that Kiehl's allows you to try their product first before buying the actual thing by occasionally letting walk-in clients get a hold of some free samples. Hence, I tried mine as a sample. Since my skin is the combination-oily type, I got even oilier skin after around three washes so it was a no-no for me. Another downside is that the smell kind of reminded me of dishwashing liquid so I wasn't exactly that excited to use it that much. Anyways, thanks to Kiehl's for letting me try this first. I ain't buying the big one but I'm still a fan of their other products.

A gel like consistency. Didn't dry out and cleansed also the eye make well. I want my cleanser to take everything off and don't want to use many different products to remove the make up. The scent was mild but at first i thought it was a bit weird. I got used to it after using it few times. It was really nice cleanser and there's nothing wrong with it but it wasn't spectacular and also there are good ones that doesn't cost this much. I like to try different things out so that is why i bought this.

I'm on my second round of this cleanser. I have combination skin with an oily T-zone. I tried the sample given to me a couple of years ago and I loved how smooth and soft my skin felt afterwards.
I love the smell and consistency. My only issue is that it doesn't control my breakouts so I may have to change cleanser after it runs out. Also, the flip-top on my first bottle broke and it spilt all over my luggage (the toner did the same), so I'm being very careful with my current one.
Overall, a good cleanser for when my skin isn't acting up as it makes my skin glow and feel baby soft.

I use both Yerba Mate cleanser and Yerba Mate toner. I really like both. The cleanser has a gel like texture and has a mild yet very pleasant tea scent. It does a great job removing my makeup. It never broke out my skin and yes, I do have acne prone skin. It is a very gentle cleanser which is perfect if you have sensitive skin. Highly recommended.

I love this cleanser, the kind of cleanser i always look for. I'm south east asian woman with combination skin and prone to whiteheads, acne, rashes sometime, quite sensitive skin i have. This cleanser really leave my skin cleans and doesn't have a feeling that we have a squeaky layer on top of skin after wash. Just feeling clean and ready for toner, serum, or misturizer. A bit expensive though.

I bought this cleanser hoping it was going to be perfect for my skin (combination, oily in some dry in others). However after just using this cleanser once I developed a rough, dry, bumpy patch on my face. It looked like what resembled a rash. I wanted to like it so much that i used it again that night and next morning but nope it just made the area more irritated. So I am afraid it is going back to the store. However the smell is lovely and the consistency is nice and the price really isn't that bad for the size because you really only need a little amount for the whole of your face. If only it didn't give my face a red rash..

General info: I have very dry, very sensitive skin, with a tendency to get blackheads on my nose and sometimes on my chin, too (even though I get dry patches on them!)
I bought this Yerba Mate Tea cleanser February 2009, so that's the first thing I can say about it: it lasts a long time: I still have a little less than a bottle left. The good thing aboutthis cleanser is that it doesn't prompt any allergic reaction: my skin is "selective", I have no idea why it sometimes reacts to some products, even if they're hypoallergenic. It's a good cleanser and does what it says it does: gently remove excess oil and residue. This cleanser is also supposed to "help reveal skin's natural radiance" and promote skin vivacity...and it does, more or less. I mean, my skin *does* looks clearer and brighter than before, but nothing dramatic either. It doesn't work miracles and my skin definitely doesn't glow as I thought it would.
On the down side, I find this a bit on the drying side. At first it was perfect, because I used it in themorning and cleansed with a micellar lotion in the night, but using the Yerba mate tea cleanser both in the morning and the night has rather dried out my skin. It's now summer where I live and even with the hot and dry weather and my skin getting slightly oiler it feels tight and uncomfortable. Then again it might be the moisturizer I'm using.
So 3 lippies, it's an ok quality-price ratio, a very lasting cleanser, but I think I'll try with creamier stuff for me.

This cleanser does a good job on my oily skin. It cleans well and has a light scent. I did not find it drying or irritating to my rosacea. I gave it a 3 as its about $20 US for 8 oz. and at that price point I want more "wow". But overall a good basic cleanser.

Pretty good no frills cleanser. I was looking to try a new morning cleanser and decided to get some advice from the Kiehls sales person. I wanted something that lathers up and she suggested this because my skin is sensitive. This does lather up nicely and it is non-irritating - it rinses off cleanly without making my skin dry. I like the light scent - reminds me of green tea. I have also tried using this to clean off makeup in the evenings and it's quite effective for taking off even my eye makeup. I am not a fan of the flip top lid - I wish it had a pump for ease of use. I've been using this cleanser daily for about 4 months and I still have half of the bottle left. For $28 Cdn, the 250ml bottle is quite affordable.

I got this as a sample at Kiehls and used it for the past week. It makes my cheeks pretty dry afterwards, even though it didn't feel like I was washing much off my face while using the cleanser. Also, I'm breaking out like crazy on my forehead. My daily cleansing, toning, and lotioning regime is the same, just different cleanser, so I know it's the Yerba Mate Tea cleanser causing the acne. Bottomline, not a fan.

I really wanted to like this stuff. I loved the Mate toner, it was super gentle and effective. The cleanser smells nice, and while it's more expensive than some other Kiehl's cleansers it's not outrageous. It cleans effectively but doesn't dry me out too badly and it really helped shrink my blackheads and pores and keep my oil under control. Sounds perfect, right? The problem is that this has made my cheeks go crazy. When I put it on they sting a little and turn bright red. I got tired of looking like I had a sunburn so despite the dramatic improvement on the blackheads on my nose, I had to switch. If your skin is prone to sensitivity I would recommend trying a sample of this first- I felt the stinging the very first time I used it, but the redness got worse over time.

I absolutely love this cleanser! I bought the entire Yerba Mate line while on vacation about 3 weeks ago...and it is fantastic for my combination skin. The cleanser is strong enough to cleanse well without drying my skin out, like many other foaming cleansers do. I had some mild acne and it has disappeared and my skin feels healthy and balanced. I definitely plan on buying this again!

So far I love this cleanser! I have sensitive problem skin, slightly oily in the T-zone.
Yerba Mate Tea Cleanser feels gentle yet effective on my skin. It lathers into a light foam with a nice, subtle scent. After cleansing my skin feels really fresh yet not dry.
I make sure to use the product with tepid water as hot water wreaks havoc on my skin. I also discovered that massaging the cleaser into skin for at least a couple of minutes gives great results.
To sum things up - this is a gentle cleanser which seems to be very suitable for combination skin, even when it's sensitive.

I like a clean face before I put on my medication for rosacea, and moisturizers. I don't feel I have a clean face after using a cleanser that is "gentle." I want my face to be squeaky clean and if it feels a little tight afterwards, so be it. I have tried the gentle cleansers and find my face responds to moisturizers better when it feels a little tight after cleansing. I like this cleanser. It is not over-drying but my face feels CLEAN after using it. My rosacea always looks bad after cleansing, but not with this cleanser. The bottle I bought will last forever, so it is worth the 20+ price tag.

I have to say I am an asian with combination skin (dry skin mostly,) and this foaming wash is just too strong for me, it cleans too well, and made my skin dry after using it. And with a few bucks more you can purchase a brightening face wash which makes your skin brighter! why get a facewash that just cleans? My bf is a hugh kiehl's fans, I am going to give it to him.

I like this product. It does what it's supposed to. Do I love it? no. Is it my Holy Grail cleanser? no. Is it overpriced? some would say yes. However, I do use it on an everyday basis and it does what it says. It cleans my face. The sad thing is, i would compare this clean to the clean I get with my HG, Johnson and Johnson Baby Wash. My problem you ask? I get bouts of brand loyalty when it comes to be beauty products and Kiehl's is #1 on my list. I can trust Kiehl's to be good quality, and to be dependable. For that, I would pay any price. But, this product is a little steep, I will admit. I am also a frequent traveller, and i've found that the Kiehl's bottles are almost IMPOSSIBLE to travel with! The tops always leak, causing me to lose most of my toner to match this cleanser. sometimes the cleanser leaks too. I can't wait until Kiehls redesigns or makes travel versions! I would repurchase, but just out of convienience and for the brand trust.

I gave up on Kiehl's today.
I purchased the Yerba Mate Tea Cleanser, Yerbe Mate Toner and Ultra
Facial Cream.
My skin is extremely irritated and I don't have extreme skin concerns or very sensitive skin.
The other problem I have with this line is that the sale associates are very inconsisitent and contradict each other.
So, for now I am looking for other products and hoping my skin will start feeling better very soon :-(
Actually, the sales associate who took my return today told me that she once tried Kiehl's and her skin was burning and irritated for days to the point that she could put nothing on it and she could not understand why people like it.....

I'm surprised there aren't many reviews on this product yet considering the rave it received when it came out. I bought the cleanser, toner and moisturizer at Saks a couple of months ago. I wanted to love it..but I feel that the cleanser is a llittle bit drying even for my combination/t-zone oily skin in the summer. I This particular cleanser or the line leaves my skin feeling clean but tight even after I moisturize with the yerba mate moisturizer. It did however keep the breakouts at bay..so I cant complain. The price is reasonable for a kiehls product and I would probably buy this product again for the summers. Normally I use the gentle foaming cleanser by Kiehls or Cetaphil which is a gentle cleanser found in many drugstores.

This cleanser is part of a new line from Kiehls, which utilizes the rare and beneficial Yerba Mate Tea in a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. I have only purchased the cleanser, which has a gel-like consistency and smells just like a good cup of herbal tea :) It cleanses well and removes makeup easily and has never dried out my combination and acne prone skin. However, it doesn't do enough to clear my breakouts, so this cleanser remains second only to my new HG, Purpose Gentle Cleanser. But if you are in the market for a basic, good quality cleanser (that smells great as well), you should definitely give this one a try.
