This gel is pretty nice. So smooth, your skin feels very moisturized... I am very acne prone and this has never made me break out. The only things I do not like are the price and the packaging. The price I can handle, having to dip that spoon in every time... Even if I clean it I still feel like it is a little unsanitary. Make sure you give it time to soak in completely before applying any makeup, it is a bit heavy and takes about ten minutes. My other complaint would be that it doesn't seem to do much to help my skin, just not make it any worse.

I ended up trying the Gel cream after I looved the feel/effects of the Original Creme de la Mer, but I'm allergic to petroleum so of course, I can only use it a few days in a row until I develop serious eczema. Which is so disappointing, so many products have it.
So I looked carefully into the ingredients of this one and there's no petroleum- so far so good. I tried it, and I loved it.
The feeling is even better, super moisturizing but fresh and light at the same time, and has a bit of the same smell as the original which I personally love.
I was suprised to learn that this costs the same as the original- this is much, much lighter and you go through it quicker. That said, it's not like the main ingredients (petroleum) of the original were expensive! It is of course overpriced, but like anything, if it works for you, it's worth it. I spend so much more money trying things that never work. (PS- get a sample! I won't buy anything without trying samples first anymore, 99% of what I try gives me a bad reaction and it's a waste of time and money)

Worth the cash. Use small amounts of this product and it will last all day. So much lighter than the traditional cream and fully hydrating.

I'm on the fence about La Mer Gel Cream. I can see this might work better for someone with nice skin to begin with that just needs a bit of moisture and doesn't need much balancing -- I have combo/oily skin that is acne prone and it didn't really work for me. The texture of this gel cream is light and cool to the touch -- it has a light scent, but not overpowering. It feels slightly sticky/tacky immediately after applying but sinks in pretty well after it evaporates (though it still leaves a bit of a filmy feel on the surface of my skin). On days where I have dry patches, this product doesn't seem to help them much. And on days when my skin is oily, this product seems to make it grease up even faster throughout the day. And on days when I have a few inflamed and broken out areas, this gel cream doesn't do anything to help while not making it worse either. Basically, I don't notice this to help make any significant improvements in my skin to be worth the price tag. It provides a veil of moisture over my skin, and that's all. I picked up a full size jar about a year ago and initially I used it daily for a few months having high hopes since I had heard so many good things about La Mer creams. I eventually stopped reaching for it as often after not really feeling it made a huge difference. There is still about 1/4 of it left and I will use it up, but at well over $300 CDN a jar, I most likely won't purchase this again and will try others from this line or other lines.

I've learnt the mistakes of my ways. I use to hate this product, but that was because I over-applied the gel cream thinking more is better. How wrong I was. The more you apply, the harder it is for your skin to absorb and it always cause me to break out.
The whole warming the product in the palm didn't sit well with me cause I felt I was wasting such an expensive product. Now I apply a thin layer, spritz with some Evian water and massage it gently into my face and neck, and allow some time for it to warm up and absorb into my skin. It leave me with the smoothest face and neck from any product I've ever use. Like unbelievably silicone-y smooth. I actually prefer to use it at night as I don't like to sleep with heavy creams on my face. Hope this tip can help some of you guys. Lastly, I wish it came in a pump bottle as that would have been a more sanitary packaging than a jar.
Edit 4/4/2013:
I just wanna add on that I've been doing lactic acid peel on my face for the past 3 weeks. After each peel session, my skin is left slightly irritated and itchy, and nothing will calm it until i apply this gel cream on. It has been a savior for me as it moisturises enough and is gentle enough. HG material, 5 lippies now.

I want to like it...it smells nice, absorbs quickly, moisturizes. But i dont see a difference from other much less expensive moisturizers and antiagers. And imsuspect it may cause the occassional breakout on my sensitive skin. The cream made my skin a mountain range! The gel...well, the occassional pimple where i use it.

Very moisturizing. Works very well on sensitive and acne prone skin. Evens out dehydrated and oily areas. Reduce redness significantly after a few uses. Pores does look smaller. Very light texture, absorbed by skin very fast, does not feel sticky or oily. One of the best moisturizers that I've tried so far, will continue using.

I got generous samples of this and tried it. I did what I'm supposed to do -- rub it between my palms to heat it up and gently but firmly pat on the face. I don't know that it did anything for me.

I tried the cream one before the gel. I have super oily skin, and also have problems with acne, so finding a good cream is hard. The cream La mer is very heavy, and I start to have break out after few usages. I end up returning it. I got a sample for the gel. It felt very nice to put them on. only a little will smooth over my entire face. It makes my skin looks smooth and perfect! the sad thing is, I end up with some break out again!!! got small pumps and acne where I usually do not have. I am partially sad and glad. Sad because I need to continue looking for the skin care work for me. Glad because it is so bloody expensive!!!

Hi everybody! This is my first post and I'm happy and thankful for all the help I've received from reading various posts. This will be my first attempt to give something back to readers. I hope you embrace my very first contribution on this most wonderful forum.
About 2 years ago, I started noticing fine lines around the corners of my eyes together with some sagging of my cheeks. I'm now 40 but have got terrific skin for my age. Most people would put me at around 28-32 maximum. As I have always been quite conscious of my looks and appearance, I was horrified when I discovered these lines on day whilst driving home from the gym when I happen to catch a glimpse of myself in the rear view mirror. My first reaction was 'this can't be happening to me!' as my skin has always been flawless. At that point, I was determined to find the best cream money could buy to rid myself of these wrinkles. I searched google when I got home and after days of research, decided to purchase creme de la mer. After using the original cdlm for 6 months, I decided it was time to try something else a it started to give me this mild but irritating rash on my cheeks. Don't get me wrong, I loved the creme as a moisturizer but it did produce that rash on my cheeks which became worse when I combined it with the hydrating infusion, also by la mer. I then decided it was time to switch to the gel cream as I had read here that it may have been the mineral oil in the original creme that was causing my rash. I purchased my first jar of the gel cream a year ago and have never looked back. It doesn't irritate my skin and provides just as much moisture a the creme. The consistency reminds me of a translucent olay regenerist serum, maybe a tad less oily. It is velvety smooth, glides on the skin effortlessly and very quickly absorbed, leaving a mat finish. I would say the hydrating effect on the skin lasts about 6 hours. I trends to reapply after that depending on the weather conditions. I must warn the readers that after using la mer for just under 2 years, it still hasn't rid the fine lines around the corners of my eyes, nor the sagging around my cheeks. This, together with the original creme isn't an anti-aging or firming product. These are simply very good moisturisers. They don't get rid of lines and un-even skin tone. Lately, I have begun using estee Lauder's advanced night repair serum nightly under a thin later of re-nutriv ultimate lifting night cream and the results are amazing. The latter has done more for my skin in 7 days than creme/gel from la mer ever did in 2 years! Now, my morning regime includes a cleanse, followed by La Mer The Concentrate, followed my the gel cream and then La Prairie's anti-aging cellular complex lotion with spf 30 to finish. My skin has never looked better! All in all, I will continue to use creme gel by la mer simply because it's a great product but for women and men over 30 who are starting to show signs of aging, this product alone will not work miracles for your skin.

I guess this is a 'gel cream' because it isn't as light as a gel and not thick enough to be a cream. I use this as a day cream all year round because it has a very light fragrance, doesn't feel sticky, absorbs quickly and doesn't leave any shine. To me, this is perfect as it gives a matte look and my skin feels supple throughout the day. However, I would not use this as a night cream (I use the cream instead) as I don't believe it gives enough moisture.

My skin loves this and I have combo/oily/sensitive skin. I tried a generous sample which last a week. I had no breakout and my skin was glowing! Too bad they do not sell it for 1 oz like the original cream because it's hard for me to afford the 2oz ($250). I have written a review for the moisturizing cream since I tried both, and the gel cream is the winner for my skin type. One lippie off for the price and no other size option. I will repurchase!

Finally, I've found a moisturizer that leaves my skin feeling moisturized without feeling greasy 4 hours later. I tried a sample of this gel because I was not convinced that it wouldn't leave my skin greasy hours after application. I couldn't believe how well this moisturzer works and purchased a jar. I am not sorry at all. My skin looks fabulous all day long and my days can be very long - up at 6:30 am and home at 8:00 pm. I warm the gel up between my fingers and gently tap it into my skin. It sinks in immediately and I've had no problems with breakouts or adverse reactions. I absolutely love this gel.

This a nice gel. It has a refreshing, pleasant fragrance. It goes very well on my skin but it dries it a bit. It leaves my skin looking healthy, no red patches, with small pores and with less acne scars. Overall I am happy with this product but it is too expensive for me so I will not buy it again. I will have to use it till the last bit and enjoy it.

Like others I really do adore this product but find that I cant always justify the steep price that comes with it as it costs $250 for 30mls here in Australia. With my gripe about price out of the way I can say that this really is an AMAZING product. I find it almost impossible to buy a good moisturiser as I have acne prone combination skin that tends to get quite dehydrated. I find that the Gel Cream glides on like a dream and hydrates and plumps up my skin leaving it luminous without being a greasy oil slick. I cant say too much about the anti-aging properties as I am quite young but I do know that I have noticed a reduction in he redness of my acne scars when I use this which is a big selling point for me. I also love using this in the morning as my makeup tends to glide on over the top and whenever I use this I find I get compliments on my skin which is VERY rare for me. The only negative I have is the packaging as I would prefer a pump style bottle for regulated usage (I find the spatula a little bit too annoying and fiddly and am often naughty and use my fingers which is a no no) All in all if you can justify the cost then go for it!

i used this after i finish a jar of the original creme de la mer because it was better suited to my combination skin. it goes on smoothly altho i didnt find it super moisturizing for winter. because of this i found i ended up using more than normal. since this costs the same as the original it wasnt worth it price wise because its not as concentrated. i had to switch to the lotion instead.

this is my first review, and how appropriate that i review my favourite product.
I have quite good skin. no acnes or scars, and combination skin, and i bought this cream just to upkeep my skin.
This is by far my favourite product. Your skin just drinks up this moisturizer. Upon first application, my skin already felt smooth to touch.
I live in a humid country, so i chose the gel version and i think the cream version would have been too rich for me as well.
Its very light, and smells good. The one product i will keep re-purchasing forever.

I hate to be nay-sayer for this but perhaps it might work for people with good skin. It didn't alleviate my hormonal acne condition, and is just too costly for me to keep up. I've a few precious bits of the gel left in the opal jar, which I will savour to the last.

Update: Aug 11, 2011 I've stopped using this because it's not doing anything for my skin & i've developed random patches on my face. it's not obvious but it's dry something like eczema. good thing it clears up overnight.
Going back to SKII
I started using this gel cream (for day) on June 18, 2011 along with the cream (for night), the toner & the cleansing fliud.
the first week i wasn't at all satisfied. the gel wasn't moisturizing enough and i felt a tightening sensation after applying it. same sensation I feel after washing & drying my face w/o any sort of moisturizer. it also left dry patches on my upper lip. i got tired of the thick skin & rubbed it with the toner after week 1. well it came off w/o any problems.
I'm now 2 days short of week 2 and my skin just looks radiant. my freckles are still there but not as pronounced and i don't know if my eyes are deceiving me but the pores on my cheeks have shrunk. I'll be turning 45 tomorrow btw.
I'll see how this goes week after week. for now i'm mighty satisfied with the results.
