I am afraid this is the only Laura Mercier product I don't love.
Although the brush is of a good quality and does give even, flawless coverage when used with the mineral foundation powder, it sheds terribly, every single time I use it.
It is very expensive for a brush that sheds so badly. Even though the quality of the bristles far exceeds that of cheaper brands (such as the Bare Escentuals brush), it sheds so much more than other brushes, and I find it impossible to use as a result.
Very disappointing.

I find this brush to work fine for the purpose of applying mineral foundation. The brush did shed a bit but never more the one hair per use.

Why oh why didn’t I check out MUA before I bought this? If I had, I would never have bought it! The reason is, because I was persuaded to buy it by the assistant whilst I was buying their mineral powder (good news is that I am very pleased with the mineral powder - see separate review).
It is easily the worst brush I have ever bought – and possibly the most expensive. The hairs just didn’t stop falling out every time I used it. It took me longer to pick all the hairs off my face than it did to apply the powder in the first place! And it was so scratchy.
Eventually I wasn’t having any more and I took it back. I am pleased to say I wasn’t given a lot of hassle and I got my money refunded. However, I was told that “we had a bad batch” which I found difficult to believe given all the reports on MUA. It was also suggested that washing it might improve the situation and maybe I’d like to give it a try but I declined.
Such a shame that this one has let Laura Mercier down because it is one of my favourite brands.

I found the perfect brush for applying mineral foundation! The density of the bristles allow for great coverage, never feels rough on my face. I am not sure about the shedding, I just used it for the first time, so I'll come back and let you know if mine starts shedding too. I hope they did remake the brush like what the reviewer said below. EDIT: So it did shed a little bit, not excessive, but one or two hairs every 2-3 uses. Since this is a brush from LM, I expect there to be zero shedding, therefore big points off. The other brushes from LM are all really nice, but not this one.

Wow. What a crappy brush! I've had it for like three years now and EVERY DAY it sheds all over my face. Time to get a new brush, I know, I know, but after shelling out the bux$$$ for this one it is a process to junk it and move on. Laura Mercier seems really hit and miss: some products (secret brightening powder, eye basics, TM) are fantastic, while some - like this crappy brush - are way below DS quality.

Gosh, I'm usually with the review masses but I really like LM brushes. I have use BE, Sephora and cheap- think this is just as good,if not better. I wash them every other week with a brush shampoo and they keep their shape, no shedding. Not sure if that is key but I've had zero problems and will buy again.

This brush is very disappointing. I bought it with mineral powder, but I use it for all powders. I especially wanted to use it for my makeup I carry with me in my purse because of its small size. But, this brush sheds too much that I can't just throw some powder on while on the go. I wind up having to look in the mirror and pick all of the hairs off of my face. I have had it for a while and it has not improved. I've tried washing it an pulling out the looser hairs, but that hasn't made it better either. Plus it is scratchy and feels very cheap like a drugstore brush. I am surprised that Laura Mercier would put this out because most of her other brushes are great. Don't buy this.

i think the brush's quality isnt good.. the "feel" of the brush is not good.. not soft enough. mac and shu uemura have better brush. my brush is supposily new, but i've hair dropping off from it already.. not worth the money that i'm paying for it.. ): several of my friends even commented that the texture isnt good..
edit: this is a horrid brush.. the hair on the brush has dropped off to only slightly more than half its original amount by now(7/10/2009)

This is the worst brush I have ever had the misfortune to use. It is scratchy, does not pick up enough product and sheds like crazy. A total waste of money

I was talked into buying this brush when I purchased the mineral powder. It is awful. It is so cheaply made that it comes apart constantly, leaving hairs all over my face. Especially annoying, given that it cost over $40.

I disagree with the previous review, I've had my brush for almost 8 months and maybe lose one hair a day...which is no different from my sephora brand, bare escentuals, laura gellar, stila, marc jacobs, (new) Kat Von D, philosophy, smashbox, or dior brushes. I believe with proper care (everyday quick change brush cleaner and once monthly dedicated brush shampoo) that these are quality brushes. I feel bad for the consumer who doesnt take proper care of her brushes and may need to talk to a sephora artist to learn how to properly clean a set of brushes. Since brushes are an investment i say why not take care of them! and i will invest in this brush and other LM brushes!

Got this product when my mom bought me the MMU in July. It does a fine job of applying the color, but I have a few issues with it:
1) Its real. My mom forgets my preference for synthetic brushes. I'm uncomfortable using a (what is now dead) animal's hair. But they don't falsely advertise this, so no lippies off for it, but I would not rebuy, if only for this reason.
2) It sheds like crazy! My boyfriend thought I was losing eyelashes constantly. Every time I use it, I have to wipe away the stray hairs from my face.
3) It is scratchy. I don't remember if it was this scratchy when I bought it (9 months ago) but I hate that I can't use it near my eye area. I've noticed that the ends of a bunch of the hairs have split, which myght explain why its so scratchy?
4) The color bleeds like crazy! Every time I wash it, the water turns blackish and the brush leavs stains on my towels. Ugh
All in all, I'd give it 4 lippies for the coverage/ease of use, but then take off one for scratchyness and one for shedding/color bleeding.

This brush is horrible. Every time after I use it, I have hair all over my face! The scary part is when I first washed it, the water was ALL black. I don't know why it was so dirty. I use it for apply the Laura Mercier Mineral Primer which is white in color. Why the first time I washed it, the water was black? After I washed it with load of brush detergent, it didn't pass the white towel test - it left black and dark grey marks on the white towel. Why the brush was sooooo dirty?
This was exceedingly expensive and isn't worth a fraction of the price. Very disappointed in this one.

I'm sorry to see that the other reviewers were disappointed with their blending brushes, but I recently bought mine and have had none of the problems the others have had. Since I saw that the other reviewers had problems with shedding, I actually took my brush out and brushed it rigorously across the back of my hand, as well as up and down my arm, to see if I could get it to shed to the degree that the others described. (And I do mean rigorously--much harder and faster than I brush when using it on my face.) After a few minutes, I got nothing--no hairs on my arm/hand.
I think that LM redid the brush and fixed it* (edit: see update below) because I just bought it from a Sephora that just started carrying Laura Mercier.. Therefore, everything they carried would have been sent fresh from LM since they literally just started carrying LM the very week I bought it (about one week ago).
Regarding my own feelings toward the brush, I like it. I bought it because I wanted a brush that was finer than my Bare Escentuals brushes. I use it for my LM mineral makeup, and since LM's MMU is finer than BE's MMU, I didn't want to use BE's brushes for LM's foundation. Since I wanted a brush that was softer and finer than BE's foundation brush, LM's blending brush definitely delivered on those points. I also have the kabuki-esque LM Face Brush, but it delivers heavier coverage, so I also wanted a brush that gives lighter coverage. It's not the softest brush, but it certainly is softer and finer than BE's foundation brush. I don't mind, however, since this is a buffing brush (hence "blending" brush)--you don't want it to have so much give that it doesn't allow you to buff your minerals into your skin. Therefore, it gave me what I wanted and I'm very content with my blending brush.
UPDATE (4/6/08) : It does shed. Not as badly as some of the other reviews have described, but the problem has not been resolved. On a bad day, I'll pick off up to 3-4 hairs off my face, while it's usually just one or two on normal days. The good thing is that the bad days occur infrequently. The problem may have been worked on, but it's not fixed.

I agree with several other reviews of this brush. I purchased it a few weeks ago w/ LM mmu, and it does shed. I'm going to take it back and look for another suitable brush. I had high hopes, but no, this LM brush isn't worth it.

What a horrible brush! I bought at the suggestion of the Sephora guy to use with her mineral powder (which I do like). Every time I use it, I have brush fibers all over my face, which are almost impossible to get off without ruining my make-up. It is also itchy and irritating to my skin. This is especially disappointing given how much I love LM's make-up.

Like others, I bought this brush to use with the mineral foundation as the SA said it was 'essential' for applying it. Wish I hadn't bothered. The hairs keep shedding all over my face and it feels very harsh against the skin, The more I wash it the worse it seems to get. Such a rip off for what it is.

This brush is absolutely useless and so not worth the money. The sales assistant at the counter told me I had to have it to use with the mineral powder because of the rounded shape of the hairs. I find it harsh on my skin and it sheds hairs like crazy. They stick to my face and fall on my decoletage and whatever I happen to be wearing. I regret not taking this back at the time. I thought that by washing it I would get rid of all the loose hairs but I was wrong. My chanel kabuki brush has a similar rounded head and gives a much better finish.

Cute brush but too harsh on the skin. I had such high hopes on this. Too hard on the skin even if its a natural goat's hair. sooo not worth it and not cheap either. Lower quality brush. Get the SHU UEMURA 18R or 20. not so much more in $$ and much better quality. Cant believe all the reviews and the sold out notice on certain web sites on these.
