An amazing nail polish remover and nail treatment in one that ACTUALLY MOISTURISED NAILS so effectively it kept nail polish lovers nails "virgin strong", as if they had never used polish before! It is a shell pink oily liquid that smelt like nice baby powder, was made by SMS Laboratories in Brooklyn, New York, sold here in New Zealand under the branding "Orly Salon Nails" for $20 for 30ml. Brush on, leave for a minute, wipe off. Once bottle lasts for AGES as you use so little a time. Saves endless cotton pads. Not stinky. So much a cut above normal stinky acetone-based removers that ruin nails to a cracking, crumbling mess for me.

I am sad to discover I can not replace my last bottle as I am running out. I had to start wearing nail nail polish (with re-informent wraps) to stop my nails splitting vertically down the nail bed and bleeding painfully. It is a hereditary problem that I can not help and can not go away, so I have to use polish to hold them together and prevent the splitting. Normal nail polish removers dry my nails out more and make the nails weaker. I wish I could find Once Removed again.

Why was this taken off the market? In 2004 the DEA released a warning that Once Removed was, according the the DEA 2004 warning, "a high purity source of GBL, which is a precursor to GBH, and is very well known in the GHB abusing community as a source of high purity GBL". I am so annoyed the stupid drug abusing community found out about the ingredients and abused it, wrecking it for us innocent people who love beautiful nails...I hope and wish they could re-formulate it to make it safe and sell it again. Bring us Once Removed Edition 2!!

I really hope it has not been discontinued because I LOVE this stuff. I have been using it for years, ever since I saw a recommendation in Lucky magazine. The reasons I love it are that I had regular nail polish remover because it is so drying and the terrible smell. Even the non-acetone stuff stinks. It removes my polish very effectively even with a top and base coat. I sometimes have to reapply to get left over polish but that is fine. One bottle lasts FOREVER. I have had my current bottle for a long time and have yet to replace it. Now I am going to have to make a trip to Ulta to see if they still carry it. They were the only store I could find it at when I bought my last bottle. The domain listed below is no longer active, so that's probably a bad sign.

Once Removed remover was reformulated because it contain an ingredient that was a precursor to the drug GHB, a highly addictive substance. People with really serious GHB habits were known to drink Once Removed right out of the bottle if they needed a fix and had no other options.

Word got out about Once Removed & the manufacturer got a lot of grief from parents, journalists and lawmakers; hence, they changed the formula so that Once Removed no-longer contains this substance.

Update: I think this brand may have been discontinued due to all the bad press. A Google search pulls up lots of nasty commentary, but no sales links.

I picked this up after reading all the glowing reviews, but unfortunately this did not work for me. I applied it four times and my polish still was not completely gone. Yes, I waited 15 seconds for it to penetrate each time. I do use a base coat and a top coat everyday. I don't know if that was the problem. It's going back to Rite Aid. BTW, I got the "new and improved" formula. I don't know if the old formula worked better.

The best part of Once Removed is the nice smell, nothing like the acetone high you get off the regular stuff. You get this in a big frosted glass nail polish looking bottle, you wipe it on your polish, you wait 15 seconds then you rub off your polish with a cotton ball. You may need more than one go round before the polish is gone, but with the oily texture, who cares? No dryness surrounding your cuticles and skin.

This is what the box front promises: "Gentle, Easy to use, Effective. Moisturizes as it removes nail polish." "Nailpolish Remover & Treatment System in One."

On the back of the box, it reads: Once Removed polish remover and nail treatment system is a revolutionary new product designed to remove nail enamel while strengthening and conditioning nails. It was formulated by the medical research department of a leading university to be a gentle and effective solution for removing nail polish.

"The brush-on applicatior is the neatest and cleanest answer to removing nail enamel. Now quick color changes and emergency repairs are so easy. Vitamin E to stimulate nail growth. Aloe to moisturize and condition nails. Calcium to harden & strengthen nails."

I liked everything about this product except I have found it never works except after numerous efforts to layer on and wipe. At one point, you do get off your polish but I wished it were easier, yet I would rebuy this anyway since it's so easy on my cuticles and it smells really nice, like pine, and feels oily and smooth.

LOVE IT and once you try this stuff you can't go back! I threw away all my other NP removers after discovering this one! It makes life so much easier because you don't have to scrub your nails...it's more like a gentle wipe and voila! I got mine at freddys in the beauty section on the Sally Hansen Isle.

My HG nail polish remover!! I'm usually really stingy with my ratings...only giving out fives to those that are truly worthy. For me, having well groomed nails is a vital part of my everyday appearance...therefore, my nails have never seen the light of day since I was a sophmore in high school. That is why, Onced Removed is so important to me. It's a total depature from the traditional nail polish remover (the only similarity being they both take off nail polish). It doesn't dry out your nails or skin (instead of being a harsh alcohol it's a moisturising oil). And it doesn't have that irritating stink associated with removing nail polish. To me it has a kind of pepperminty scent. I am no longer forced into isolation from my family when I do my nails. I found it a year ago at this Rite Aide during a vacation trip (I was there for batteries) it was around 6$ and although it seemed a little expensive for a mere nail polish remover I decided to give it a try. Now, I just regret not buying two. I think it is fairly hard to find b/c I havn't seen it anywhere yet and am begining to panic. I will definatly buy again if given the chance. This time I will stock pile.

This stuff is amazing. I consider it to be a must-have for those who (like me) constantly polish and repolish their nails. I had a recent experience with my nails becoming very dry, weak and brittle so that they'd chip and tear easily (very unusual for me). So I've been trying to take it easy on 'em by changing my polish color only once every 2-3 weeks or so and using a glass nail file.

This comes in a frosted glass bottle that looks like an over-sized bottle of nail polish. The applicator brush is too long and skinny, which makes it harder to get a lot of the remover on your nails at once (it's best to use it generously). The remover actually smells pleasant, kinda melon-y (?), and doesn't sting my hands (I always have adorable little scratches on my hands--bad cat!). It doesn't dry out my fingers or nails; it even feels a bit oily, but in a light way, not greasy at all.

You're not gonna like it if you prefer lightning-fast polish removal, but it does work: brush generously onto nails, wait 15 seconds, then wipe off. If you have more than one coat, then you'll have to repeat the process for each coat. It works very well with light colors, and requires a bit more work with dark colors. I wouldn't use this for glitter polishes, though. I also think the oils in it help moisturize my nails and cuticles.

"Once Removed" is expensive (between $6-9 depending on where you source it), but worth it. But overall, I don't mind investing the extra bit of time and money. I change my polish colors all the time and reducing my dependence on acetone-based removers is helping save my nails and skin. Rave!

My friend brought this back for me from USA. Amazing stuff - no chemical smell, leaves your nails & cuticles conditioned and smooth. Paint it on with the brush, then simply wipe off - PERFECT! ... I SO wish 'Once Removed' was available in Australia, it is the best.

Once Removed Nail Polish Remover is an excellent nail polish remover especially if you wear light colors. (It may take a second coating to removed really dark colors.) It doesn't stink, it moisturizes your cuticles, doesn't dry out your nail bed, and a little dab will help you fix manicure or pedicure boo-boos.

OMG!!!!! I discovered this stuff about three years ago and fell in love, but after a few months I was no longer able to find it anywhere. Apparently the FDA forced the company to stop making it b/c one of the ingredients has been linked to a certain date rape drug...apparently some college kids discovered that ‘Once Removed’ contained it and started dumping some of the product into co-eds drinks at frat parties.

Anyway, when I was at my local Ulta the other day, I was so overjoyed to see it back on the shelves that I nearly started doing cartwheels in the aisle!! It looks like the company reformulated it so they could put it back on the market with the FDA’s blessing. Now, about the product itself: this stuff is absolutely amazing: it's a brush on formula that you brush on and wait 15 seconds then simply wipe away the old polish. But the best part is there's no tell-tale stink of traditional nail polish removers, and instead of drying out your nails, Once Removed has all kinds of conditioners and essential oils that leave your nails really shiny and healthy looking. This stuff is just completely revolutionary – it makes removing old polish a pleasure rather than a pain! It’s a bit pricey at around $5.99USD per bottle, but the bottle will last you a few months. Even if this stuff costed fifteen bucks per bottle, it’s still worth it in my opinion. Now that it’s back on the market, I will never go back to using those stinky, messing, traditional NP removers again. I have and will continue to by it as long as they keep making it!!!

GREAT stuff! It is an oily, non-fragranced nailpolish remover that you paint on like polish. After about a minute, you wipe off and your nails are clean and moist. I find this more effective than traditional removers. It really gets all the polish off - including the stuff near your cuticle. Works great for glitter polishes that are hard to remove too. The best thing about it, though, is the lack of any smell. Nail products drive my Dad and BF crazy, so I really like that this is nonoffensive. I bought mine at Walmart, but see it at Walgreens from time to time.

I really like this nail polish remover--it's NOT smelly (on the package, it promises this and does deliver), it's light pink and comes in a big nailpolish bottle that's frosted glass. You paint it on your nails, wait about 20 seconds (maybe a few secs. longer if you have a lot on) then use a cotton ball to remove it. For some nails, it takes a 2nd painting/wiping, but everything comes off. I've done this while relaxing in front of the TV (and next to my husband, who did NOT complain for once about "those chemical smells")! And, it really does NOT dry nails out--my nails feel stronger, not like the moisture's been sucked out of them. One bottle is supposed to last you a year, according to the package--but, i redo my nails once a week so it may not last me that long--but, the formula is worth it, in my opinion, so i will be repurchasing!
