Love Love Love!!! I purchased the #50 in Jade for a beach vacation. I have very oily skin, that I blot throughout the day and the waxy finish to this liner is amazing. I was originally looking for a liquid waterproof liner and heard about the Make-Up Forever version but I still think the Chanel is the winner. Its a bit expensive but does the trick. With oily fair skin you want somthing that stays put and lasts all day. I would definitly buy this again.

Darn it, I was hoping this wouldn't be so great! It's so expensive, but really the best stick waterproof eyeliner I've tried. I bought it at Duty Free and will probably try to continue to reduce the cost a bit. The twist-up sturdy tube is practical, the shade is flexible and it doesn't budge. It's a lighter dark brown with a light hand, dark brown if you press harder. No reddish tones to make me look sick. I have hazel eyes, light skin and very dark hair- it looks perfect with a heavier hand. I can nap, swim, leave it on overnight and it won't budge, but it removes easily. I use tubing mascara, so a bit of soap takes this off, no remover necessary. Most tried-and-true eyeliners smudge on me (ie: MAC, Bobbi Brown Gel), this truly works! Of note, the black version doesn't last as long and smudges a bit.UPDATE: Words can't express how much I love this eyeliner. I've had a chance to use it in more testing situations and it passed with flying colors. NO smudging ever, no running, actually stays on waterline (no other eyeliner will dependably do this, gel, liquid or stick) and is so easy to remove. This comes right off with warm water and Spectrojel, not even a smear left behind. I will definitely continue buying this despite the cost! I also tried Cassis, which has excellent lasting power too. I tossed the black one, since it smudged quite a bit. Looking forward to trying Celadon or Jade when I hit Duty Free next.

This is a cool chocolate brown which is dark enough to be intense for light skinned/light haired people, and is what i wear where others would wear black liner (too harsh for me). The color is right, the staying power is absolutely perfect. This product does not move until you take it off, and if you have "scandianvian hood" like me, it doesn't rub off on top of the fold either. If I accidentally fall asleep without washing my face, this stuff doesn't even come off on my pillow, that is how good the staying power is.
The only thing stopping me from giving this product 5 lippies is that it is dry as all get out and has no glide, i have to warm it up with my hand or put it on the radiator before i use it, and even then it drags. So I remove a lippie for the extra effort. But I still keep using it for the staying power and the fact that it does not transfer.
If you are concerned about the color, Catrice does a very good softer dupe at a much much lower price point called Hot Chocolate 02 with the same mechanical packaging. The color match is dead on but the Catrice is waxier and does transfer without a primer (but is fine with).

Not a huge fan of this. Its pigmented but not pigmented enough for me. Its a dark brown color more on the cool side and i like that. Stays on well im not gonna complain about it. If I use it on my water line my eyes get very irritated. its super expensive. It doesnt glide on as smoothly as i would like to do. Comes with a sharpener on the other end that doesnt work i always end up just wasting more product than sharpen the pencil. I m not gonna repurchase for sure .

I love the consistency of this eyeliner, i have recently been on a quest for pencil eyeliners that would not smudge or budget on my lower lashline/waterline, and i have tried Urban Decay, Chanel kohl, MAC kohls/powerpoint, Heavy Rotation, Clio, and a bunch of others that i can't recall offhand - so far i like this and Clio best.. it is creamy and does not hurt my eyelids on application - i took a lippie off as i wanted a dark dark brown but this is medium-ish brown on me, unless i layer it on.
however i like the soft look it gives me compared to black liners (yet to try ebene, which i also bought) and i use it when i am not applying much makeup on my skin. so far, my HG until i find something better. it does not smudge or budge on my super oil lower lids - the staying power is not that great, maybe 4-5hrs max but it is normal for me. no awful smudge-marks is very imp for me, so i wld repurchase but i want it in another color :)

I disagree reviews that this is blackbrown, I wish it was!, it`s chocolate brown. It just dark enough for my dark eyes. I almost always wear black eyeliners because they make my eyes look black. Anyways glides easy and really stays put. After 12h test no smudging or fading away on lower lashline. Much better than UD 24/7 liners. No glitter and easy to make a thin enough line. This colour was only one left in local store at sale and was 10EUR. Now that I know how good this is I might pay full price but in another colour. Update; it is dark chocolate brown:)

I've used the bobbi brown gel eyeliner for about 8 years but for some reason the staying power isn't working...I tried the new Nars long lasting gel eyeliner...still smudged and smeared...Then I decided to try Chanel's waterproof pencil in espresso! I love it! As all the other reviews... it stayed on all day. I leave the house at 6:30 a.m. to get to work by 7:00. Stays on all day at work. If I do have to go out after work, I may just touch up a bit but that's it!

When I bought this pencil, my opinion was very positive. However, several months later I must say I think differently. The pencil smudges like hell and once applied in the morning I always end up with panda eyes in the afternoon. I need to take a cotton bud soaked in make up remover and erase those brown inverted arches under my lower lashes. It also sets on fine lines. In addition, the pencil sharpener is rubbish. For such an expensive product, the overall quality is very drugstorelike. The Revlon Colorstay eyeliner pencil is far better than this one and less than half the price, so I won´t repurchase it again.

Just got this eyeliner today! I love the color so far since it looks a lot more natural then just plain black. I would have to say I like this eyeliner a lot more than lancome's le stylo waterproof eyeliner. Its was pretty waterproof when I swatched it on my hand. This eyeliner is lasting a lot longer on my waterline. We will see if this smears but so far 3 hours and no smudging.

I like to use this on my upper waterline (tightlining as well), it won't transfer and smudge even on my super oily eyelids. It is much more easy to apply compare to MUFE Aqua Eyes while the later has stronger waterproof-ness. I didn't sharpen it since it is so expensive so it is quite hard to line a sharp yet precise line by using this.

I do like Chanel stylo liners (I have them in Cassis, Ebene and Espresso) but I mostly use them on my water line (upper and lower) and they don't hold up all that well (on me! I tend to get lots of tears from the wind and we have lots of that in Holland). If I try to draw a line on my upper eye lid, I end up with dotty look - they are just too waxy. Though they are good if you are going to use them as a base for a bolder evening look or smudge the dotty line for a less dramatic look.
Not going to re-purchase. Though packaging is nice and it comes with a built-in sharpener.

Beautiful semi-warm, very deep brown (espresso!) liner. Really easy to apply smoothly because of its lovely softness. (It's not dry or hard.) Even though it's really dark, I find I can get a really nice, natural look with this pencil if I take the time to draw a very thin line - just barely beyond the lashline. Gives a clean, classic look and it truly lasts all day long with no smudging. Worth the price.

Cannot recommend this eyeliner enough! Got it as substitute for my usual black eyeliner (Lancome Artliner) in order to achieve a more subtle (i.e. less harsh and, ultimately, warmer) look. And, serves this purpose perfectly.
Glides on effortlessly too. Happy.

Love this. Yes, it's expensive, but when I look at the shoebox full of drugstore eyeliners I've purchased over the years-- every one of which I ended up tossing in there, un-used -- it actually makes more sense to me to spend good money on a good product. I will definitely repurchase. The espresso color is definitely a black-brown, so if you're unsure whether to get this or the black, I'd say you don't need to worry that this will look too light. For me, it gives me the same look I'd get from my standard black eyeliner but without looking so harsh. Perfect! Most importantly, I bought this because I was having terrible issues with smudging and smearing by the end of the day with all other eyeliners (due to oily lids) and this WORKS. No, I don't look picture-perfect at the end of the day, but I can honestly say there are no dark smudges under my eyes. I'm a drugstore girl at heart, but I think I've just turned Chanel!

A really nice, very rich, dark brown. Simple and elegant. I have dark brown eyes, and some browns can look just kinda blah on me. This almost looks black, but adds a warmth that black never could.
I used to think that brown eyes shouldn't wear brown makeup. But I read an interview with Cindy Crawford who said brown can really bring out the warmth and richness of dark eyes and now I'm a total convert.
It's my go-to eyeliner every day, worn with Maybelline Great lash in dark brown. Also I love it with YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils in Burgundy.
The only con is its ridiculously expensive.

This was a pricey eyeliner, but I have such a hard time finding good eyeliners that I feel it’s worth the investment. I have oily skin and very oily eyelids. Midday, no matter what products I’m using, I have to use oil-blotting sheets on my eyes. I had been using Make Up For Ever’s Pearly Brown 2L for years, but was never 100% happy with the color – I wished it was a black-brown. I knew about Chanel’s eyeliner and after testing the color at the counter I made the plunge and bought it. I love it! The color is richly-pigmented and it stays put! It doesn’t smear with my oily lids, no does it smear underneath my eyes (my Asian eyes have folds underneath the eyes where typical eyeliner collects). I like that it winds up and down and has a built-in sharpener, which is easy to use. I am using this everyday and will have to replace it sooner than I’d like, but it is worth it and I’ll buy it again!

Love it. Stays put on my oily eyelids, even in humid conditions. I'd describe the color as medium brown--not really expresso on me. Also, I can't get a super fine line with it, but I still love it because most eyeliners wind up smudged up mess on me.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE PRODUCT. I've been using it for at least 5 years now and I couldn't imagine using anything else. I ran out and didn't have time to get new so I was using a cheap drugstore eyeliner for a while and nothing could compare. Black is a little too harsh for me but this color is perfect. My only negative comment is that it doesn't line the top very smoothly but I can easily work around that. BEST PRODUCT!!

This is my go-to eyeliner! It stays on great.
The other day I put it on at 8:00 AM, worked a full day, worked out, went to an appointment, went to the movies, and went grocery shopping. I got home at midnight and it still looked great! Amazing!
The color is really nice, too. It defines nicely and goes with everything.

I got tired of using gel eyeliners, but I didn't want to go back to pencils because they usually don't last on my eyes for more than a couple of hours. My friend told me about these pencils, so I thought I'd give them a try. They're easier to apply than the gels and they last all day! Espresso is a dark brown (almost black) with just a hint of shimmer. Perfect for my blue eyes!
