I have six Mac eyeshadows and this one is by far the worst of them all. It looks pretty in the pan but when I put this on my lid, it just looks muddy and dirty. It's hard to blend so it comes out uneven. I hate this eyeshadow.

i LOVE love love my Fertile shadow. Use it to line eyes only so it works for me. By the end of the day, I sweep another coat on and ready for evening smokey eyes!

First off, I'm sorry to drag the average low and I don't mean to offend anyone - just sharing my two cents! :)
I'm very disappointed in this product. I love purples and wanted a really dark one to really smoke out the whole look. Plus I have medium-dark skin so I need darker shadows to be darker for effect. What really irked me was the texture. Everyone's saying how MAC shadows are buttery smooth, blah blah blah. I'm not a mac eyeshadow junkie, so I can't comment on how this compares. I have to rub my fingers in the pot almost VIGOROUSLY or else it only picks up this thin chalk dust. My shadows from UD's BOSII are SO much smoother and softer!!!! I have to admit, part of my low rating is due to disappointment/higher expectations. Texture: 1.5/5.
Color: It is a dark purple, more black and purple. It's pretty matt, but it is more like a dark grey/black undershadow with a purple sheen overshadow. It was kinda what I was looking for, but not really. On the eye, for me, it either gets too close to a boring chalky grey-black or just dull when i try to spread it out. Purple doesn't REALLY shine through.. maybe my expectations are just skewed. I guess the color deserves a 3/5.
Overall, I will NOT be repurchasing. If I could, I'd give this product a 2.5 overall.

I picked this up because it looked SO pretty in the pan. i just can't seem to transfer that gorgeous color to my lids. I've tried every primer, every method. Dry, wet, with a medium, etc. Nothing. It just ends up a dirty purpley-brown without the shimmer and pretty pigment. Very disappointing.

Oh what a pretty color. I have had this for a long time, bought it on a whim after the makeover when the collection came out and never really used it until today! I never did find a way to apply this shadow - Do I out it on the crease? Outer corner of my lid? As a wash? It didn't look right at all. The only thing that prevented me from swapping fertile away is that it looks so pretty in the pan. I didn't have heart to part with it.
However, today I just discovered a great way to pair it - with the darkest cool-toned brown I have to create a beautiful smokey look. Just by using these two. I'm not very good with e/s application, and have always disliked how I fared with shimmery e/s and now I am so glad at rediscovering fertile. It's a veluxe pearl finish and it gives just a beautiful sheen with that dark, dark cool-toned purple. I've never had much success with purple e/s for my medium dark olive skintone but with fertile, the look I got today is simply amazing.
I'm really glad I pulled this out of my MU traincase today!

Saw this at the CCO, and picked it up to add to my purple collection. (I really need another purple shadow like I need a hole in my head, but oh well...) Now, the surprising thing about this shadow is that it is genuinely purple. Know how most "purple" eyeshadows are really versions of violet? This shadow is truly a purple, and a dark, smokey one at that. As other reviewers have mentioned, this makes for a great smokey eye. As a veluxe pearl, this isn't supposed to be super matte, but on me, it comes off very close to it. It looks like it has some shimmer in the pan, but the shimmer doesn't really show up on me. I'm actually OK with that, though. This is actually a color I'd feel comfortable wearing to work, and I think this is actually quite a versatile shade that can be combined to make a variety of looks.

A very pretty shadow in the pot, but it did not transfer that gorgeous color to my lids. That surprised me, as MAC almost always comes through.

A nice smoky purple! A little too dark for an everyday look though!

I just bought this for $10 at the Cosmetics Company store. In the pan, it is my idea of a perfect purple. Plus, I have been so happy with all my other MAC Veluxe Pearl shadows that I was so excited to try this. However, I was disappointed that the color that showed up on my lid was darker, smokier, and did not have the same shimmer and dimension that it did in the pot. Also, it does blend as easily to me as other MAC e/s. Still, it grew on me and I have decided that it really makes for a GREAT purple smokey eye. I will probably wear it fairly often.

Awesome colour! A deep dark cool purple, a true purple too. Makes a great purple smokey eye, even essential, I'd say. it's much darker on than it appears in the pan. I like to pair it with Satellite Dreams on the lid, Noctunelle in the crease, with Fertile to deepen the crease and underneath the eye to really smoke it up. Only recently got this but is already one of my favourites. Would definitely repurchase.

I was lucky to swap for this eye shadow as it was a limited edition. I LOVE MAC Trax and Sketch eye shadows, and Fertile works very well with both of them. Kind of makes them more smoky. The color definitely brings out my blue/green/grey eyes as well. Fertile works great as an eyeliner too - doesn't look black, definitely shows us as purple. Very glad I got this!

I bought this as a replacement for my d/c Blu Noir.I had wanted something a little more shimmery and purplish, so I thought this was a must-get. Plus, it's LE.
I went home excitedly to try this on. And boy, was i dismayed.it had none of the great colour pay-off Blu Noir had. So much so that i had to load the brush to and fro to get the colour to show up.
While Blu Noir was great for a powdery, long-lasting liner that went on intense and clean(and i used it on a dry brush-not wet), Fertile went messy on me. Maybe it's cos I had to load the brush to even get a decent colour, resulting in shadow overload on the brush, and that equals a messier line.
i have to mix this with my Shu U shadow in Charcoal to get decent pay-off.(i love my lines deep, dark and intense). And i've been wetting my brush to make this more usable. i still prefer shadows for lining eyes, as opposed to liquid liners (u've got to be pro for it to look gd, i'm by means a makeup pro).
i shall try mac fluidlines(waveline /royal wink as i love cool dark blues, and shocking cobalts for a new-wave feel) next, and i'm lemming for Contrast e/s next(to replace Fertile!).

This is a gorgeous purple eyeshadow; a very true purple, not violet. I have used this in the crease with Shale and Trax on the lid, and it looks wonderful. I hope they make this permanent.

Mmm, dark, smoky, and sultry. This gives a great black-purple (not bruised purple) smoky eye. It's got some slight shimmer to it and it's very sooty. A great eyeshadow from MAC! Too bad it's LE.

This makes a great smokey eye, and I'm a huge purple fan, so the combo of purple + smokey = love!! It works well as a liner and a crease colour too. H.I.P. gel liner in Eggplant matches it almost exactly. Would definitely repurchase.

Fertile is a gorgeous smokey purple-black colour which I adore, but I find it really difficult to blend, or to get an even colour :(
I do still love it, but it's not a shadow I would use every day.
