I found this recently at Kmart, 100 ml for $50! (Aust.) What a bargain.
I was sucked in by the bottle, which I have to say is stunning.Because I liked certain aspects of the original but thought it was a tad too "phwoar" for me I just assumed that I would like this watered down version of the original Opium.. I was right. This one is truly beautiful and I *always* get compliments when I wear it. What a shame it's a limited edition, I've never been so in love with a fragrance before! Ultra-feminine (but not in a cutesy, fruity way...rather a spicy, floral way)
YSL, I love you.

I tried this yesterday because I do like Opium -- in moderation. I felt like it just smelled like lavender on me after awhile, and that was it. I like the bottle, though!

Very feminine fragrance. It is much softer then original Opium.

I'm not too fond of the Original Opium fragrance - I find it too spicy, too dark, and too much of a heavy oriental that only can be worn at night imo. I think I could enjoy spraying it lightly inside my closet, giving my clothes a touch of insency warmth, but not on my body.
Orchidee de Chine on the other hand, I found quite enjoyable after stumbling over the two last bottles in the department store I was wisiting. It smells like a lighter version of Opium of course, more flowers and sweetness, and less smoke and spice. Which is true when you read the ingredients: Mandarin, néroli, bergamot, orchid, jasmine, carnation, iris, vanilla, patchouli, and amber.
I can use it at work sprayed lightly, and the scent of this 100ml EdT lingers until evening. And most important: It doesn't change on me.
I don't find it strong and offensive, but warm and kind of cuddly, and I still haven't heard anything but compliments on this fragrance.
It's perfect for fall - not so perfect for summer as intended though.
Limited Edition for 2007. UPDATE: I get beautiful whiffs of this scent 8 hours later without sniffing my wrists and I love that. The scent makes me happy. It seems that there's a good chemistry between us.
Update: I'm an oriental-floral/woody girl. If you're a fruity-floral gal, you probably won't like this.

I can't complain too loudly about Orchiee de Chine, as I went into this purchase knowing that i wasn't an Opium fan. The original actively repulses me, and honestly? You really *must* love Opium to truly "enjoy" this fragrance. The florals come out in the first two or three minutes after application, giving the Orchidee a nice rare edge ... then it dries down into a soft powdery Opium Lite. Okay, to be fair, it you press your nose up against your skin, some of the floralness remains. But from a distance, it's not detectable. Orchidee reminds of the sexless, older-market, powdery-sweet fragrances I used to sample in my grandmother's family drugstore. It's not disgusting, but I wouldn't wear it often, and I certainly wouldn't wear it out to dinner (too powdery-sweet).

This i another Opium spin off that works! Such a light pretty scent that's a lighter version of the big sister. I'd be thrilled to recieve this perfume. Gorgeous. I sprayed a sample on myself today and i can still it but it's not overpowering at all! Wow:)

Yves Saint Laurent will launch summer limited editions of the Opium fragrance again this year (see last year's Opium Eau d'Orient Fleur Impériale & Opium Eau d'Orient pour Homme):
For women, Opium Orchidée de Chine Eau d'Orient (shown) will feature mandarin, neroli, spices, orchid, jasmine, carnation, amber, vanilla, patchouli and iris.
For men, Opium Pour Homme Eau d'Orient has lemon, bergamot, grapefruit, spices, star anise, ginger, white pepper, nutmeg, vetiver, sandalwood and amber.
Both fragrances will debut in March, in 100 ml bottles of Eau de Toilette. (via cosmoty.de)
Love Opium since it came out in 1977.I have gotten compliments every time I wear this and it lingers. The whole house smells wonderful. People stop me and ask what I am wearing. It is a long name and the Summer LE 2007 edition. LOVE IT ♥♥♥
