I love this stuff! I put in a squeeze or two into my longish, baby fine, color treated hair. Then I blow dry upside down. It doesn't give the biggest body at the roots (it's not quite a root pumping product) but it does make my hair fluffier & bigger. A word of caution -- do not use this if you're not going to blow dry. I did that once and my hair looked like garbage-- limp, stringy, dirty. I am a novice when it comes to styling hair so the fact that this works with my neophyte two-step process of "squirt into hair, blow dry upside down" makes me love it all the more.

Did nothing for my shoulder length fine, color-treated hair. If anything it made my hair feel limp and dirty. No shine, no hold, no thickness, no volume.

Intially, I purchased this on a whim after the store was out of the Paul Mitchell's Skinny Serum (which I also love). I have long, baby fine & wavy hair. I apply after I towel dry and pick out my hair then I finger comb it into the ends of my hair and put a small amount all over my hair then pick out my hair again. Then I let my hair dry naturally. This product really gives a great texture to my hair's natural wave and really makes my hair shiny and healthy looking. I especially, love how my hair looks if I blow dry or straighten my hair when I use this product. I usually use 2 pumps and that's perfect for my hair. I've gotten compliments on how shiny my hair is after I've used it.

The only thing I don't like is, that if I use this the next morning, after I comb my hair out before washing it makes my hair more frizzy then usual. Otherwise, I love it!

I've had my first bottle of this for a long time...would use it for a few days, then stop, and occasionally go back to it. I think I'm back for good now, but learned that the key is less is more. I have very fine, straight hair, a little below shoulder length. I think the directions say to use 2-4 pumps, but I found that to be much too much for my hair and it would end up looking greasy and being weighed down. 1 to 1.5 pumps of this is the right amount for my hair. It adds body, shine, some volume, manageability, and reduces frizz. And the bonus is that my hair dries REALLY quickly after using this. Good packaging, easy to dispense the amount you want, and with the amount I'm using, this bottle will last forever. The only downside is that my bangs tend to look a little greasy when I wake up the next day.

The first time I used this, I was depressed and demoralized because not only did it NOT add body but it seemed to actually make my hair flatter. If that's possible. My hair is very limp/thin/fine.

I experimented with the dosage, though. One pump works for my medium/short hair. I blow dry and put a little thickening wax in, as well, and I have more thickness and body than I've ever had.

It's a bit spendy compared to the drug store aisle counterparts, but you'll have it for a long time.

I use less than 1 full pump in my just passed my shoulders length hair. Any more than that and my hair would get oily looking. It adds lots of shine and softness, not much body, though!

Lately, I have found that the best styling products for my fine, thin, color-treated hair are Paul Mitchell. I don't know why, but it's like my hair "outgrew" every other brand... and only my Paul Mitchell gels & mousses are making my hair look fantastic lately. Apparently, I had purchased this Thicken Up Styling Liquid years ago, and did not like it and had bad experiences with it. I reviewed this here on MUA and gave it a rating of "2" and said I would not repurchase. I even threw the bottle away a few years ago!
Fast forward to 1/21/13, where I forgot I had bad experiences with this hair product, and purchased another at a beauty supply store I had visited with my daughter. I tried this again, and I can't believe this is the same product I used in 2010! I used about 4 pumps this AM on my fine, pixie-cut hair, and my hair looked fantastic after I blow dried it! Full of body & shine and without the usual frizziness I sometimes get after blow-drying. My style held all day and I had no problems with my hair going limp or getting greasy. I don't know... maybe it's the weather, or maybe my hair changed (my hairdresser claims it changes every 7 yrs. along w/ your skin, but I don't know if that is a fact), but I had to up my rating on this. I am going to continue using this- alternating with my other favorite PM styling products- and I will update this again if it starts falling short in comparison to my Super Sculpt & Super Clean Sculpting Gel products, which give me excellent hair days!

I bought this product really hoping it would give my fine, shoulder length, blonde hair some volume. While it does give me more control and smoothness, I don't find it adds more volume. I'm going to try a different product next time.

Lord knows my fine hair needs all the help it can get and this product really helps!! It adds so much volume and a little goes a long way. Have repurchased several times and would highly recommend!

This stuff works really well on my thin, chin length hair. I use a little less than a full pump before I blow dry and it gives my roots a bit of a boost. Smells great too! I love Paul Mitchell because they have great products and they don't test on animals.

Sometimes I love this, but sometimes ... it's tricky to get just the right amount for your hair. While the package directions call for 2-4 pumps, I find that 1.5 is plenty for my shoulder-length fine hair. Maybe even a bit less. Because if you end up putting on even a little bit more than is "enough" for you, you will have limp hair all day, so be super precise when you pump! Also, I find that this tends to straighten the wave out of my hair, whether I want it to or not. Actually, I wish I could give this a score of 3.5, because when it works for me, it works well. One last tip: Be sure to dry your hair very thoroughly, because if you miss a strand, it will look greasy. Not sure if I will repurchase, though I usually like Paul Mitchell products.

I apply this to damp hair only, and blow dry hair upside down. It helps to really bulken up the hair without feeling dry but I do find I like to use the daily boost root lifter along with thicken up!

this one is so great! I was interested in the super skinny serum but bought this one instead and I'm glad that I did. The smell is great and it really does add volume to my hair! The texture is like a watery light gel and i just use two pumps onto my hair and then straighten or curl. When I use this product, I feel that it makes me hair shinier and adds volume to it as well. My hair is pretty thick and coarse and this makes it look really smooth and shiny without weighing it down.

I really like this product. If you are looking for big Texas hair, this is not your product, but if you are looking for extra volume, body and really shiny hair, this is the product for you. I like the fact that it also holds my curls longer than just your average volumizing product. I also love this product because it is not sticky whatsoever. My hair is very long, so using a sticky styling product does nothing but tangle it. I will definitely keep purchasing this product and will recommend it to others, especially those with long hair.

Based on the reviews here I bought this. It was a complete waste of money. I have thin longish hair with layers cut in and wanted more volume and thickness. It did make my hair feel silky smooth but that is not what I bought it for. The first time I followed the instructions exactly: 4 squirts on towel-dried hair and then blow dry. Result: silky but no volume or thickness. The next couple of times I increased the number of squirts but I never got any thickness.

I really like this product... I have an inverted bob... so to get the poof and volume in the back I use this thicken up while its wet and then blow dry with a round brush and finish up with a flat iron.. and I have to say that the thicken up and the round brush + blow dryer definatly gives me the volume I want!!! My hair is already kind of thick, but its heavy so it weighs itsself down so this helps it get that bouncy volume I am looking for...

Wonderful product! It does exactly what it says it can do. I run through 4 pumps of the stuff through my towel dried hair and let it all air dry naturally. Done! Definitely buying again!!

I bought this when I went into Cosmo Prof. I had to buy eyeliner and they had deals going on Paul Mitchell products. So I started looking around and found this. Since I got $5 off my ourchase because I was a first time customer, I was like why not. I am so glad that I bought this! This makes my hair so shiny, but it gives it body and my hair really looks healthy. And omg does this stuff smell wonderful! Ever since I have started using this people have been asking me why my hair smells so good. I would for surely recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a little extra oomf!

Have been using this for a couple of years now, and will continue to repurchase it. My stylist uses it on my hair, along with other products from Paul Mitchell's extra body line. I get flexible but definite volume from this, and it works as a styling product as well. The pump makes it easy to control how much you use every day. I have plenty of fine hair that really needs all day body, and this does it. I do find that at the end of a rough 10-hour day, my hair is crap, but this will last through a regular day or evening.

This is one of my everyday products. I have super baby-fine, thin hair and when I mix this with Aussie Awesome Volume Texturizing Gel, WOW...VaVaVoom. I get tons of lift, thickness, and volume without leaving my hair feeling filmy, flat, weighted down, or dirty.
I have searched and searched for the right product (or combination of products) to do just this...finally found them!
