I have Evangeline's Red 320, which I *think* is the same product. This is a SHEER red, which does appear to have some orange undertone to it, but it doesn't look orange on me. I would describe the color as geranium, and a cool red without being blue or pink. I didn't expect this to work (because I am cool toned), but this is holy grail level for me. This is the sheer daytime red I've been looking for- there is something in this red that is an instant mood lifter. It just makes me happy.

It's hard for me to find the perfect shade of red for my skin tone that isn't too orange, & this is it! Goes on smooth as well.

This is for the color Penelope's Red #320. It is misspelled in the title of this review. First of all, this has NO orange tone to it in natural light/day light. If you live in a house with yellow lighting, the color could appear to have an orange undertone, but under any other type of lighting it shouldn't. This lipstick is a perfect red for someone who is cool toned (yes, that includes someone like me who is fair and olive in tone - olive does not mean warm - that is why orange looks terrible on women like me). If you are tired of reds looking too orange, too bright or clownish, and you have enough of the heavily cool toned reds (ones that may pull pink or the undertone is very blue) this might just be the perfect color. It is just slightly blue-toned / cool toned so you still get a true red effect. There is no shimmer or glitter, but it is not matte. It is a juicy pretty red color. I suggest this is a good daytime red as I like something a little more dramatic for evening. On me, it looks like the perfect true red that I've been looking for daytime looks. I don't have to mix this with any other color to get that effect. Also this is not a messy red - you know what I mean if you wear a lot of red - this lipstick stays in place on your face - and I've even done that without a lipliner. This lippie is more moisturizing than typical colour riche colors as well - the ingredients are a bit different - the color consistency is the only complaint I have. I think it has to do with the ingredients. The first two are lanolin and sesame oils. The coloration can be a bit splotchy upon first application - i think possibly due to the oils. I apply once, press my lips to a tissue. Do this routine one more time, and then apply third time and leave alone. That seems to do the trick. Take one lippie off for color inconsistency on the lips without doing this.
It is not an 8-hour lipstick, but if you are a realistic consumer, like me, it lasts long enough and does not dry out your lips. Happy to find this one and plan on buying a few more as it appears it has been discontinued. It has been replaced by Evangeline's Red on the L'Oreal website.

Loved this lipstick so much! I'm very pale and red lipstick often washes me out or makes me look cheap but this worked so well on me! It lasts a couple of hours or so if you're not drinking anything and it's easy to touch up. It's goes on slick and smooth and I noticed that it didn't chap my sensitive lips like a lot of other products tend to do.
I got tons of compliments when I wore this lipstick, it's vibrant but subtle and it reminds me of something a little porcelain doll would wear. Will definitely repurchase since it's so cheap too x

I really like this color. It wasn't orange toned on my at all and I have a light to medium toned complexion similar to Penelope's just with a bit more of a tan. It is definitely a vibrant evening color and it appeared on my lips just as how it looks in the tube.

I purchased this lipstick in spite of hating PC.
The colour looked lovely and since I was looking for the perfect Pin-up colour this vibrant red seemed convenient.
The pigmentation is not that great though. When I put it on, I do about 3 or 4 coats with blotting. It is a bit of work. It is also a bit too shiny for my taste.
It does have decent staying power though.
The packaging is a bit grandmaesque, if you ask me. And the smell...well it is okay, but not great.
I will have to keep looking for that perfect Pin-up lipstick, but in an emergency I would go for this one. Won't repurchase though.

I think the color looks great and it does last pretty long on me. This was the only red I really liked in the store(on the cheaper products that is). I would probably buy it again, unless I find something better :)

This is a fun flamenco red color (with orange undertone). I actually like the way it applies because it is much easier to control how much red I want on my lips. However with this particular lip stick , I have to have lip balm on first, otherwise it will apply blotchy and uneven. When my lips are moisturized I use a dabbing motion to carefully and slowly apply to color to preferred colour strength. I keep it light because, despite it’s appearance in the tube, it is not a true vintage engine red. When applied sheer it gives me pouty red lips. However, when layered it looks tacky as it takes on a deep orange red hue. This is not the kind of lip stick I could whip out and apply in an instance, it’s the kind that you have to apply carefully with precision (unless orangey red compliments your lips/skin tone).
I also like the look of the packaging, Black with light gold lining, and the name of the celebrity etched in a gold penned autograph. I, however, do not care for L’Oreal’s lip stick packaging style because it will only snap shut in 1 specific position. I prefer to just close my lip stick and go.
Overall, a fun lip stick color that I will enjoy for now, but when the tube finishes, I’ll be ready to move onto a new, easier to apply red, without repurchasing this one.
Happy Shopping!

Extremely disappointing - this was like child's lipstick, or colored balm. I've purchased L'Oreal lipstick in the past and gotten pigmented, longer wearing product - I don't know if they've gotten cheap in general, or what, but this barely lays down color and barely lasts.
If it lasted, the color would be great. I'm warm toned and if it turns orange-red that would be fine.
But VERY disappointed with thin pigment and poor wear.

I bought this lipstick because it looked like a true red that I could trust. It is a decent red, but it is not very pigmented, and it has a slight orange undertone that doesn't suit my complexion--which is about the same as Penelope's and maybe fairer. It does not look bad per se, but I am longing to go buy a more higher end quality lipstick. This does not last very long at all--It will stay on for about 15 minutes and fade/rub off quickly. I found myself having to reapply very often--not cool. I will be buying something else and will stay away from l'oreal lipsticks when I am looking for true, rich pigment that lasts.

Like the previous reviewer, this lipstick also turned a bit orangey on me. I am NC25 with asian yellow undertones. It was lovely in every other respect, but unfortunately not a true red for me!

I feel pretty bad giving this lipstick a slightly lower score than the others. I found that this lipstick turned super orangey on me. I'm pretty fair/pale with yellow undertones and I really thought this would work being that I read all the reviews.
The texture is good - it's a lot more moist than L'Oreal's other lipstick - Sunset Red. I like the texture of Sunset Red - it's moist but matte and it has staying power. This Penelope Red seems too shiney and moist which will be licked, or eaten off in no time. Reapplication is a must here.
I think this lipstick is OK, but the color is not flattering to my skintone.

This is my favorite red lipstick to date. Very pigmented, but goes on smoothly and leaves a bit of a shine. It has a surprisingly nice scent as well. This is not terribly long lasting, so touch ups are necessary. Additionally, this does dry my lips out after about an hour. The red is very bright, not like a darker, vampy red. Its price, smooth application and opaque hue sell it for me.

Surprised to see other reviewers refer to this as an "orange-based red", it looked like a blue-based red to me in the drugstore which is why I picked it up since I normally cannot wear anything but blue-based reds. Whatever...this shade definitely worked on me and really would probably work on anyone who falls into the dark hair/fair skin category.
I was surprised at the staying power (and I wore it with no lip primer or lip liner) and how little you need to put on to get that vibrant red (usually, I have to wear 2 coats to really get a vampy evening look - with this, I wore 1 and blotted it down). Also, it did not dry out my lips and went on smoothly.
Great shade for going out at night...probably too intense to wear during the day unless I wanted to skip the eye makeup and just put the focus on the lips.

This is one of the best red lipsticks I have ever bought! Beautiful, flattering true creamy red- neither too orange or pink (I HATE it when red lipsticks turn fuschia on me!). I'm very fair, and I love the pinup girl/old Hollywood effect this creates. And for a regular lipstick, this has some damn good staying power- without overdrying. In fact, it has a slight moisturizing quality (but isnt particularly shiny or slippery). I wear this with a matching lip liner to maximize definition and longevity. (I know the fashion rags say to use a neutral lip liner, but I have no problems with red, personally). This is a highly pigmented lipstick, so apply with care. Anyone can wear red lipstick with the right color and quality formula- and from what I can tell this should be an excellent product for many. Pretty!

God do I LOVE this lipstick! It is my first red lipstick ever! After reading reviews from you fine ladies, I ran to the store and bought one and man does it look good!
It is very moisturizing unlike alot of other lipsticks that'll leave your lips chapped by the end of the day, and the color is very forgiving and I believe it'll suit any skin tone. I am Asian and it looks awsome on my yellow undertoned skin. It is not blue based.
Definitely repurchase!

Thanks to the reviews here I went out and picked this up. And I'm so glad I did. I can honestly say red is the hardest color for me to get right and I usually end up staying away from them all together but this one is actually PERFECT. I love it and am tempted to buy a few more just to have on hand in case they stop making it. I also think many skin tones can wear this one. Its not a garish red its just plain BEAUTIFUL!

I have light skin with yellow/pink undertones so I can wear a modicum of warm shades. Simultaneously, I remain heavily in the cool shade spectrum and I believe this lipstick works well with cool skin tones! It's what you'd call a 'true red' .. a 'fire engine red' which I initially expected to look dreadful on me and yet, it suited me perfectly!
I'm young so I don't often wear red lipstick or lipstick for that matter, in spite of this, I wanted to experiment with various shades of lipstick and I was fortunate to discover Penelope Red. It has elegant packaging and the product glides on effortlessly, it's quite long lasting too which justifies the slightly expensive price (for a drugstore product). I took one lippie off for its lack of universality as I'm not too sure it'd flatter warm toned skin.

Expect stares. Lots of it. Test drove this at lunch - didn't know noon at Midtown could be so nerve-racking. Women and men stared. A table literally stopped their conversation. The barista at Starbucks couldn't look away. Guys on the street slowed down to stare. Not used to this much attention - blotting it down and keeping it strictly for going out at night.
Details: fire engine "true" red. It looks nothing like the pic of Penelope. Wearing black today and it comes across as having slight blue undertone, unlike yesterday (wore white) when it looked more tomato-ish red. Texture is gorgeous, semi sheer and moisturizing but intensely coloured. Light glossy finish. Most blue based reds turn fucshia on me - not this one. Blot 2x, apply final layer. Amazingly vampy. NC25/30 / Shu754, light skin w/ yellow undertone, dark hair, can do both warm and cool tones as long as they're not too far extreme in the spectrum.
