About a year ago I decided I wanted to dye my naturally light blonde hair dark brown. To get it back to blonde, it was bleached 3 times in about 3 1/2 months, which obviously damaged it A LOT. I tried a few different treatments/deep conditioners, which helped but didn't do much. I decided to pick this up and after one use I couldn't believe how soft and healthy it felt! After using it 3 times once a week my hair was even healthier than it was before I bleached it! It is pretty pricey, but it lasts a long time and it's defidently worth it!

I was anxious when I bought phytojoba mask. If it didn't work for my hair it would have been an expensive fail. Luckily, it worked, I got the one with the new packaging.
First of all, I have lots of thick curly hair and I use flat iron often in high temperature. The process takes about an hour and despite heat protectants it is damaging. So I need a really nourishing hair mask to bring my hair back to life 1-2 times a week. I think this is it!
The scent is intoxicating, bitter orange and orange blossoms!
Consistency is quite thick but coats hair easily, you only need a small amount.
I use this mask on clean, conditioned, towel dried hair and leave it as long as I can (about an hour most of the times)
Rinsing is fairly easy and does not leave my hair coated with waxy residue like other masks I've tried before. I also like the fact that it contains lots of natural oils and no silicones.
My hair fell healthier, full bodied, shiny and manageable. That was all I asked for. New staple here, definitely!

My sample gave me weird "lion" hair, for lack of a better description. I have lots of fine hair, and right after using, my hair looked clean + pretty. But in about 8 hours, my hair was already starting to look greasy and--hard to explain--sections of my hair were clumping together in a way that made me look like I had way more hair than I had, but in a crazy, not-good way. I can even go so far as to say that it felt "rubbery." Yuck. Gross. In the trash it goes.

I used this as directed and it was probably the worst hair mask I've ever used. If anything it left my hair feeling dry and tangled, not the least bit moisturized. I'm not sure how it works differently on some people. I have fine straight hair that isn't overly damaged but felt that way after using this.

I got this for free from Ulta with buying other products. It doesn't really work for me. My hair is dry/ frizzy/ colored and I don't feel moisturized enough after using it. I'll finish what I have but will not repurchase. I tried a sample of the lisse mask also and felt it was the same.

I like to use this mask when my hair really needs hydration, like after swimming or being in the sun all day. I will shampoo then apply this mask and let it work its magic for at least 10 mins. Upon rinsing my hair is soft and smooth. Since my hair is fine I only use this when I really need it.

i have mixed feelings about this product. first off, like other reviewers, i was disappointed by the cheap flimsy and thin plastic tub for such a pricey product. especially surprising compared to how they package their other phyto products. but anyways the result was very soft hair after i used it just as directed, ie. apply to towel dried hair for maximum absorption. i felt happy with it. then the next time i tried merely wringing out the excess water from hair instead of towel drying to save some time but it really didn't work as well and my hair felt limp and dry all day :( so next time i shall follow the exact direction again. i do enjoy the result, but i was hoping to use as an everyday conditioner as others have said it can be good for, and i now realize i don't really like going to quite the trouble, towel drying in between shampooing and conditioner step, each day.
one more thing. i don't think the price point is worth it. why is this twice as much as other high end conditioners/masks? i love my other phyto products, and while this isn't bad, i don't think i'll be repurchasing.

Really disappointed with this product. The only thing I like about it is the smell. Packaging looks cheap for something that cost me > $50. I used this after shampooing and blotting my hair dry. It made my hair feel harder, stiffer and drier. Did absolutely nothing for the frizz and poofiness. Worse still, it made my hair weaker so I have breakage now.

I purchased this from my salon after trying the Phytojoba shampoo and conditioner. I LOVED the way my hair looked and felt after I used the samples, so I purchased the products.
Unfortunately, they gave me the Masque instead of the conditioner and I have to tell you..... the Masque is AWFUL!!!
It really must work differently on different people because I cannot imagine how anyone could give it a good review. My fine, naturally smooth hair, becomes frizzy and completely unmanageable after using this product. I've tried it several times in different ways and the result is always the same.... hair crisis!!
Beware!

I left this in my hair for 5 mins after shampooing.
I found that my hair was softer and fluffier than normal after flat ironing it, but not as moisturized as I wanted it to be. ( I have fine hair , lots of it and curly , frizzy). This definitely did not weigh my hair down, in fact my hair has more volume today! so girls with fine dry hair you will LOVE this! those with thick coarse or very dry, frizzy hair, dont think this will be moisturizing enough for you.
I will use up my tub, but probably will not repurchase.

I brought this yesterday with the matching shampoo and I am over the moon! I have dry coarse curly hair with no dye or blow drying it is still dry. Having spent hundreds and hundreds of pounds on hair products I was at my wits end this week ready to go for the chop and get some straightners but this stuff is fantastic. Most other products have protein but my hair doesn't need protein so it tends to dry out more! These products do not contain protein as far as I am aware and from the results I would agree.
Used properly as per instructions, shampooed left it on for a few mins then conditioner on towel dried hair for 5 or so. Combed through and rinsed. I could see the difference in 10 mins, no fuzzy halo on top of my head!
It has driedin super soft defined waves and curls and still looks great this morning!!
If your hair is anything like mine as described I think it maybe worth it! I read somewhere a hot oil before hand makes it even better!!

I bought this stuff a year or two ago. It smells wonderful , is thick and gave me the impression that it would provide a deep hydrating mask for my hair. It is not a staple and I can't say that I noticed any significant changes on my hair. My hair type is coarse, dry, chemically treated hair. I don't blow dry and only dye the roots so it's not "fried" but not soft and glowy. I would not repurchase this again, however I am glad I had the opportunity to try it. The product will last forever if you use it sparingly.

I don't understand the great reviews for this product. It left my hair hard to comb through when wet, and it dried to a dry, puffy, big frizzball, rather than sleek, silky and shiny, which is what you would expect. Just awful. If you are thinking of trying this stuff, try a sample before you spend the $$$!

I received a sample of this magical hair mask with an order from Sephora, and two quarter-sized uses later I am seriously considering shelling out for it. I'm skeptical simply because I've never had this sort of result from a hair product (and my brain tells me to step away from the Sephora website) yet every time I touch my hair I find myself gravitating towards the computer. It's a terrible cycle.
My hair is currently an asymmetrical bob, grown out from a white-blonde pixie. It is a combination of virgin hair, extensions to hide how terrible it looks and dried out damage that really just needs to be cut but in this hideously awkward phase I really can't bring myself to do it. Anyway, nothing I do seems to hydrate it or make it manageable - but this mask plus air dried hair equals silky, shiny, beautifully soft hair for three days. THREE DAYS! I was shocked. I never have manageable hair, let alone hair that looks like it belongs in a magazine.
I can't hold out against buying this mask for much longer, not with results like these. My dry bits aren't dry any more, my hair does exactly what I want and I haven't needed to wash it every day like I have had to in the past. I don't need much in the way of styling products, and blowdrying is now a dream. I would definitely recommend sampling this before purchase, just in case you don't want to run out and buy an entire box of the stuff like me.

The smell of this is intoxicating for me! I swear I crave it when I am washing my hair.
The trick to this mask is to completely towel dry your hair while in the shower...and then put it on! Sounds crazy, right? That is what the sales associate at Sephora told me and it worked wonders! Reasoning is that when your hair is wet, it can only absorb SO much conditioner, but when it is towel dried, it soaks up more :) BTW: you can use that to increase the performance of ANY conditioner.
The price is a little on the expensive side, but considering that I don't wash my hair everyday, I am the only one that uses it, and I only use about 2 quarter size dollups...it really has lasted me FOREVER! (BTW, my hair is VERY thick, and about half way down my back...just for reference).
I use Phytojoba shampoo, and follow up with Phyto 9 on towel dried, and dry hair.
Hair is naturally shiny and feels beautiful :)

I have long ( 10 cm beyond shoulders), curly,colored hair.Dry also.
I have purchased phytojoba and phyto 9, and the seller gave me 2 samples of the phytojoba mask.
Results : money I m not going to see again...
The mask : is just crap for my hair.it doesnt moisture, doesn t add shine or smoothness. My hair is a mess after using the shampoo and the mask.Plus, I have to use LOADS, and that makes this stuff even more expensive.Using this mask or nothing at all, is the same.
Anyways, today ( using the mask for the 3rd and last time) I have applied on some parts of the hair ducray nutricerat, and just after rinsing I could sense where I applied ducray ( smooth smooth , could easily comb the wet hair with my fingers) and where I applied phyto ( a tangled nigtmare).
for my hair, this is just expensive expensive crap.
if you think buying a phyto product, ask for samples before throwing your money away!!
==============
phyto 9
is some kind of oil, that claims to act as a leave in conditioner.Used it 2 times : first time on towel dry hair, second time almost dried hair. The second time was better, but nothing impressive : hair was still dry, frizzy, and hard to detangle. Both of the times I had to use huge amounts of the product, which is a tiny tiny aluminium ( probably 1/3 of the product will never get out, becaue u can t really squeez it ) tube. No shine anyways.more like "straw like" hair.
As the mask, phyto 9 didnt convince me, plus, I find it unacceptable to have minimum results from such highly expensive stuff.

Can be used as a conditioner or a mask! I have used both ways and love it. It is especially nice after my hair has been dried out from swimming or the sun. Helps detangle and never weighs my hair down.

I got the Phyto hair mask when I was still thinking it contained silicones. The new formula, however, does contain neither silicones nor parabenes anymore, which was a pleasant surprise. This, however, means that it has the short shelf life of only six months after first opening it. Also, the little pot it comes in looks different now. It's a transparent, wide and flat pot with an aluminium lid. The product within looks like melted vanilla, I suppose ;o) It's a really light yellow colour and the scent is just to-die-for. It smells like oranges, but not artificially sweet but fresh, fruity and a little bit like the fruit drops I used to love as a child. I'm usually not fond of fruity smells but this one is just so... I can't get enough of it. The texture is creamy and all in all this somehow reminds me of a rich, thick vanilla sauce. Anyway, enough of foods, this mask is applied like all other hair masks: on washed, still moist hair. The packaging says to apply thoroughly and then work through the lengths with a brush or comb. I didn't do that, I just kneaded it into my hair and let it soak for about 4 to 5 minutes while shaving my legs. Then I rinsed. I must say I'm super spoiled by my Sante Brilliant Care conditioner (see review here on MUA) and the feeling of my hair when I rinse. The Phyto mask simply cannot compare. The hair feels alright, but not like I would have expected after applying a hair mask. Also, detangling afterwards wasn't as easy as it should have been. The care effect is alright but not overly impressive. Now I'm not sure if I did everything the right way. Maybe my hair is still too wet when I apply this (it's supposed to be applied on towel-dry hair and I never do that) and I refuse to work it in with a comb. Maybe the five minutes are not enough, maybe it's meant to soak longer? I dunno. As it is, I'm not really happy. I will of course use this until I'm through with my pot but for now I don't plan to repurchase. Although I'm super happy with the ingredients & scent, it's too expensive for something that doesn't deliver. However, I might update this review for better or worse, depending on change of results ;o)

UPDATE (02/2011): eventually finished small tube, wouldn't repurchase or indeed buy the full size. Weighed hair down, even if only used very rarely (every 4-6 weeks...). Also, skin now back to being more irritable, and this is one of things that irritated my neck. Switched to using jojoba oil as pre-wash scalp treatment, every week or so: much more heartily recommended.
If your hair is very dry, coarser, maybe also treated--worth a try, but buy it first in one of the mini/travel/sample tubes (ex. in Sephora trial packs). 3.5 lippies bumped up to 4, as it really is meant for drier hair--my hair isn't dry enough for this mask, and it wasn't right for my scalp dryness.
Excellent but expensive intensive mask / treatment. Protein-free, moisturising / hydrating: not as moistening as some more oil-heavy conditioners, but seems to help maintain non-dryness of hair (and no, it doesn't nourish the hair, but then again nothing does or can cos hair is dead). 75% angelica extract, plus quite a lot of coconut oil-derivative, and some dimethicone, jojoba oil, and amodimethicone. Using this very infrequently--every 2 to 4 weeks (from a mini sample tube). Hair here: long, fine, thick, some waviness underneath, normal tending to dryness at the ends, can be greasy at the roots. I usually wash it every 2-3 days (currently Phytojoba shampoo and Aubrey Organics GPB conditioner).
Application: well, while the mini version (for ex. in the mini-travel-kits at Sephora) is in a handy little tube, the full-size version is not in the best ever container. A plastic tub, from which one scoops out the requisite quantity. The stuff itself is a creamy cream, not too liquid, sits in the hand and doesn't try to run away (thank goodness for small mercies at that price). Smells lovely: citrussy, not surprising given the orange oil. Not much is needed (on me anyway); easily run through hair. Can be left on for various lengths of time, depending on hair porosity. I find 2-3 minutes is sufficient. Then rinse out.
Results: Using this occasionally, in case my usual conditioner does too much protein-depositing. Between the two, it's happy, healthy, not breaking, not tangling, and smooth. About as much as one can hope for--the rest will be down to diet. I worried, as my hair is usually lank and skanky with heavier 'cones. Not in this case: sufficiently small quantities, and counterbalanced by other things in the formula. Hair is soft, smooth, light, slightly flyaway, manageable, very touchable. Stays that way for 3 full days, which is a good sign--too often, I find 'coney conditioners leave my hair looking in need of another wash by the end of day 1.
It's certainly very good at its job, but the price alone prohibits using it as a regular conditioner (I hope that's not the idea behind the CAD42.00-51.00 for 200ml!!!). I've said "yes" I'd buy it again, in that there's nothing wrong with it and indeed everything right with it, but I'd hesitate before spending the full price on the regular-size pot. Then again, on my hair Phyto stuff works as well as Kérastase did when I last used it. Except the P works out a little cheaper, smells nicer, and comes from a good company, decent ingredients and sourcing, cruelty-free (so: a more ethical choice all-round). Haven't met anything "greener" that works even half as well, I'm afraid, though good everyday (proteiny) conditioners from AO & JMO; alas, too many of the others contain stuff that irritates my skin (scalp, back, hands). Still looking, of course, as what's life without a little hunting and gathering?
INGREDIENTS: Angelica Archangelica Root Extract, Cetearyl Alcohol (from coconut oil), Water/Aqua, Cetrimonium Chloride, Cetyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Dipalmitoylethyl Hydroxyethylmonium Methosulfate, Decyl Glucoside, Dimethicone, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Ceteareth-20, Limonene, Linalool, Fragrance/Parfum, Amodimethicone, Tetrasodium EDTA, Benzophenone-4, Citric Acid, Trideceth-12, Methylisothiazolinone, Sodium Benzoate.
Note that the preservatives have changed, compared to the ingredients listing at the top of this product's MUA review page here: minus the Phenoxyethanol & Parabens (Butyl, Ethyl, Isobutyl, Methyl, Propyl); plus the Methylisothiazolinone & Sodium Benzoate.

This mask is ok. I used it for a year and a half along with other phyto products reccomended to me by the phyto consultant. I did see an improvement in the way my hair looked, but it continued to be dry and damaged. Kerastase has worked for my hair much better.
