First things first, Licorice is a straight-up black. Not black with a brown undertone, not black with a red base, it's just completely black. Needs just 2 coats to reach fully opacity and dries to a glossy finish, which I make even glossier with my trusty Seche Vite applied over the top. Everyone needs a staple black in their nail polish collection, and Licorice is definitely one of the truest black polishes on the market.

Ok so i loove this polish. Most people will say, why be picky its just black! But this is the inkiest, shiniest, blackest polish and it applies perfectly. I especially like applying it when my nails are short so it looks really clean and it goes with anything i wear which is awesome! And i just have to vent....i really hate when ppl comment on my black manicure and say something about it being goth...ugh!!! I think its just fierce, classic and mysterious.

My FAVORITE black nail polish. Use 2 coats and you're good to go. Also, for a bonus, it's so incredibly shiny, you don't even need a top coat (though I recommend it)

This is definitely my holy grail black polish. The formula is fantastic! It just takes two coats in order to get full opacity. Great colour for the fall and winter. As well, this colour has really great wear!

This is a great nail polish. All you need is one coat and it isn't streaky at all. It lasts pretty well on my nails and doesn't chip very easily.

The holy grail of black nail polish. It's really just a great tube of polish. Dark, shiny, not streaky, dries quickly, and opaque in 2 coats. My most used nail polish color and the best black I've tried. I have no complaints!

This is my HG basic black polish. I have about 100 nail polishes, but I usually ALWAYs have black polish on my toes, and I often wear it on my nails. Nothing better than a classic black mani! This polish has great formula, opaque in 2 coats and not streaky at all. I like the consistency too, not watery or too thick. This is my second bottle, I will repurchase again.

Jelly like, quick drying, excellent formula, delicious looking.
A+!

I think maybe Essie changed their formula on this after reading earlier reviews. This is definitely NOT sheer. This was almost opaque in one coat and I only needed two coats to achieve complete opacity. It looks like patent leather on my nails! I love it! This appears to be apart of Essie's permanent line as I've seen it at Walgreens and Target. I got this dirt cheap for $2 at Trade Secret as they were getting rid of their Essie stock! Definitely will repurchase if I have to.

Ok so I pretty much almost loved this polish, I bought it beacuase a black polish is always something good to have it matches with everything! Its great... It did not chip, and it went on super smooth, but it took me forever to take it off.
Check out my site where I will be posting my full review(:

I love this polish. I only need one coat to get a true black black. I always try polishes on my bare nails before I purchase it and I compared Licorice to Revlon's Black Lingerie and I noticed right away that Licorice makes Revlon's nail polish look grey. I LOVE this black color. Its amazing!! Will definitively repurchase when I'm running low.

Was looking for a great black polish and decided to try this. I usually read reviews before I purchase a product but I didn't read a review on this before I bought it. Anyway, I see almost everyone says it's a sheer black polish. In my experience, it is definitely not sheer. This goes on almost opaque in one coat! You could definitely get away with this in one coat. It's a true black with a cream finish. I will definitely repurchase this when I run low.

I love this color! Can't understand the low ratings. Yes, it's jelly-ish so you need 2-3 coats to get solid black but then it's a glossy, juicy black, not flat like the really opaque ones. Love it.

love their bottles, so sleek and fresh, this nail polish lasts a long time and is very shiny with just 1 coat, no need for a top coat.

I was really intrigued by the reviews that say this is a sheer black. I had never seen such a thing, so I had to check it out. At one coat, this will NOT go on without looking awful, so the whole 'sheer black' thing didn't pan out. I was dissapointed, but decided to apply another coat and just wear it as a solid black, and that's when I got the most rich, deep beautiful black I've ever had on my nails. It's weird, this polish actually looks deep - never seen another black like this. Very lovely polish, and I'd definately recommend it.

I read about this shade in a magazine last year. Makeup icon Bobbi Brown listed it as her favorite polish. If I'm not mistaken, Rachel Zoe may have also said this was a favorite. A salesgirl told me it was no longer available so I found it on Amazon.com. Other black polishes have been runny and took a few coats to become opaque. I was surprised that after just one coat, the polish looked a great. Ofcourse, after 2 it looked amazing! I don't know if other people got defective products or what- this is a definite must have if you're a fan of Essie or just love a great black varnish :)

People who are trying to use this as a solid black -- you're missin' out.
Layer it over a rich shimmer like essie aruba blue or a metallic red or glittery silver and BE AMAZED. It works for this purpose like a more opaque black never could. This stuff is bad for black nails but good for getting creative.

Ick.
Took me 4+ coats the first time I applied to get a black finish. It goes on uneven and due to the amount of coats you need it takes forever to dry. It doesn't thicken up to a better consistency with time either (a nail technician told me it might, but I've had it for over a year and it hasn't got any better.
Chanel Black Satin (EU version) takes 1 coat for the blackest of black finish! More expensive but well worth it. Who has half a day to sit around waiting for nails to dry. I don't have the patience for more than base, 2 coats and topcoat.
I do like Essie for nudes (mademoiselle, innocent, vanity fairest) but won't be tempted to purchase a dark ever again (I have 'clutch me if you can' which is a nicer texture but also takes a lot of layering).
Would urge people not to buy, save your pennies for something better :)
