Ok so I have been using lots of different lipsticks like lipfinity which stay on the lips for hours so was pretty excited when I heard about lipcote, lipcote is a lipstick sealer - what it does is it seals your lipstick so your lipstick stays on your lips for hours.

After my lipstick application I applied a small amount of lipcote and almost immediately I felt a slight burning sensation to my lips (apparently this is normal) this feeling did go away quite quickly,

After lipcote dried I noticed that my lips tasted pretty bad - if you have ever got soap or face cream on your lips by mistake then ran your Tongue against your lips and experienced a horrible taste.... Well this was like that but worse!

Lipcote did keep my lipstick on ok but the taste was not very pleasant.

This product did offer exceptional value for money, it cost me £4. I will not be purchasing this product again.

LIPCOTE....
I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it.
You just need one thin coating over well blotted lipstick. Then simply wipe the little brush on tissue before replacing it back in the bottle and your lipcote will stay clean and clear for your next application. I find a very slight stinging effect and smell but it only lasts for a minute. I can apply then forget for the night. GREAT PRODUCT.

Bloody hell I wish I could refund this product. It stings, it smells, it doesn't do any good. Don't buy it. A total waste of money!

on contrary to many reviews i've read about this product, i don't find it has a strong chemical smell or if it stings that bad. my packaging claimed a new vanilla fragrance so i'm not quite sure if this is really new or not. of course i'm not smelling it directly from the tip but i don't find it strong. the sting only lasts for 2 or 3 seconds but my lips are not cracked or anything. as far for the staying power i was really surprised, i was wearing a cheap lipstick and toped it with lipcote and went for some drinks and after about 4 hours of that jazz my lipstick was the same! it never happened to me before. i don't think the lips look dry but you can definitely feel a film on them that wrinkles a bit. the only downside was when i clean my mouth with a napkin and the product started to come off like little lumps. that drives me crazy so i clean my whole lips before a meal and after it i apply the lipstick+lipcote again. but i don't like to eat while wearing lipstick anyway so its no big thing. by its price, i recommend trying it.

Terrible product. The smell of toxic chemical and a strong burning sensation on the lips, I wish I'd read the reviews here before booking. Seller further argues that never heard of such complaints. Yeah, right ....

I can't believe that this product has been rated more than a 1. Changing all my lipsticks to longstaying lipsticks was a dream. This stings the lips terribly and totally dries them out. Plus it's weird to put on moist lipsticks (which are the ones that need it most) because it pulls off the colour.

Worst of all, it doesn't keep lipstick wearing all day. A total waste! Luckily it's cheap.

It does sting when you apply and has a very chemical smell but what I really don't like is that it dries the lips and if you don't apply a very little amount it ends up flaky.
It also got stained from the lipstick I used, so now the liquid is not clear anymore.
It does help making the lipstick last longer but nothing amazing, I prefer the Mac prep and prime, it works better and it's moisturizing.

The idea of this is great but is poorly executed...
First of all I was extremely hesitant to put this on my lips as like another reviewer stated, it smells toxic. However I did bite the bullet and applied it... it does say on the packaging says it will tingle... hah yeah right! More like someone poured a ton of acid over my face. It hurt!
Worst of all, it made basically no difference to the lasting power of my lipstick and actually REALLY dried my lips out (I'm guessing this has a lot of alcohol in it) but at the same time made my lips all tacky. However putting balm over this gets rid of any effect this gave. Made my lipstick 'ball up' and look really flaky. Wouldnt buy again or recommend it.

This stuff does keep your lippy put for quite awhile! The only fault i can find is that it can make your lips have a 'sticky' feel when it's dry; however i kinda add abit of light lip balm or gloss and it helps stop that. Seems to last forever as a little goes a long way!

Excellent product!

I love this stuff. It really helps keeps your lipstick in place almost all day/night.
Comes in a cute class vial so you can see how much is left and is small enough for your purse.

It seems a little harsh to apply as it has a high alcohol content and can feel a little funny on your lips, but dries in about 5 seconds and seals your lipstick on.

If you heavily apply your lipstick it can make it get a little flaky so don't be too heavy handed.
I wouldn't suggest using this every day as it will dry your lips after extended use but I would definitely recommend trying it out.

I can't believe the high rating of this product! First off it smells toxic and it tastes horrible. Yes it does keep lipstick on for a good bit longer than usual however it is very drying. My lips feel like they are burning when I apply it in fact the next day I always find patchy dry sore bits on my lips and im convinced the lipcote has burned them. Maybe its just me or im allergic but either way I'd rather just reapply my lipstick and I will not use this product again.

The first time I tried this product I rushed, and it came off in a couple of hours. The second time I applied it more evenly and waited for it to dry. I didn't find that it hurt, less stinging than a plumper. It was fairly easy to apply, it was like painting your nails. I used it to seal lipliner, lipstick and lipstain. I put clear loreal colour juice over the top once it was dried, which kept it looking great. Even the gloss didn't take it off, which is a problem I have with long lasting lipstick.

There was no transfer other than the parts I dared not paint on my inner lip to avoid eating it. I decided to see how long it would stay on if I didn't wash it off. I went for a shower (without rubbing it), had dinner, slept and 12 hours later I still have it on in almost perfect condition. I'm certain without the sealer I'd have a light stain and smudged lipstick everywhere when I woke up. I was very impressed. This is great for sealing anything which generally smudges.

I bought this product just for the sake of applying my favourite MAC lipstick fresh brew which I went through hurdles to purchase as its always out of stock in Selfridges. I tried the Lipcote twice, the first time with Clinique lippy Tender heart and it did'nt stay on for longer than an hour! having said that the lippy is quite subtle that you can barely see it on my lips, but anyway when I tried again it worked better(a revlon lippy) Will update soon

I am almost embarassed to say that I've worn this product for about 30 years! I couldn't live without it. Line lips, fill in with choice of lipstick, blot then apply lipcote. My lipstick stays put from 8.00am to about 3.00pm each day. Over the years I have had so many people ask me how my lipstick stays on for so long!

People new to it say it stings a bit when you apply but I guess because I've been using it for so long it doesn't for me anymore.

The only thing I would say is - it is great with satin or light sheen lipsticks but if you use it was a glossy one (even if you blot first) it goes into blobs on your lips and you want to pick it off!

Couldn't live without it now!

Emm not so sure about lipcote... it has its pros and cons and I dont know if I would repurchase. If I find any alternatives on the market then I probably would leave lipcote behind.
It is weird to apply as it looks like nail polish, has strong alcohol smell and is very liquidy. It doesnt sting my lips and after it dries up your lips look quite good just for the first hour. It does make your lipstick last longer but your lips will not look as good as if the lipstick was just applied. actually, lipcote really dries them out so while your lips have the colour, they dont look 'fresh', as they start to look dry and dull after about an hour. So I dont know - yes this product makes your lipstick last longer (though not ALL day, maybe 4hours for me) but they just dont look really good with it on. I will try just sealing my lipline next time rather than just applying it all over.
However, I would still recommend to try this product - maybe it will work for you and it is cheap so why not try it anyway?

Just tried this today, and it really works! I'm using it over Max Factor Hyperful in Voluptuous. It's a very bright red and I was worried about it wearing unevenly, so I bought this to lock down the colour. It really does what it says it will.

However, you must follow the instructions. If it feels sticky, you've put on either too much lipcote, or too much lipstick. It's important to blot your colour before using the lipcote.

That said, it's not particularly comfortable to wear. It stings sooooo much when you put it on. But that eases within a few seconds. My lipstick is then set for about 4 hours. It's fine through drinking as well (and best of all, you don't leave lippie on your mug). When it does wear off, it does so nice and evenly, it fades really, rather than just wearing off. I find if I'm wearing bright red it rubs off to form a bright ring around the edge of my mouth, whilst the colour is completely gone from the middle. This totally solves that problem for me. It also makes me worry a lot less about transfer and smudging the crisp edge you need with a bright colour.

This product has been out for years. it does sting your lips off but seems to keep lippy in place. results can depend on type of lippy so it can be hit and miss. lipcote glitzy with glitter is fab for night-time. well worth the money, but some people may not be able to stand the so called 'tingle' (which is a sting!). would repurchase as it is good value and usually works.

I didn't like this product at all. It smelled very strong like alcohol when I put it on, it takes long to dry, my lips kept feeling sticky and I'm not impressed with it's ability to seal lipstick. I drank, I ate, my lipstick smudged. The color was faded afterwards but not very bad, but it still smudged and walking around with sticky lips feeling like there's glue on your lips and being afraid to lick your lips is not my kind of thing.

Well, I have to say I love this product. I always love to wear lipstick, but I always get mad when I have to re-apply- even with the long lasting brands you still have to re apply. With this sealer my lipstick actually stayed put the whole day- looking like it was freshly applied! It was also DIRT cheap! There were a few cons, but this product is so good that it is enough to overlook them. It kind of feels a bit weird on your lips sometimes, but you do get used to it. Other than that it is perfect! If like me you just want a cheap, no fuss product that keeps your lips in place- then this is the one for you! Definite HG for me! :)
