I like this eye shadow duo but I don't think I would buy it again. I like the brown color more than the french vanilla shade. I had to apply Laura Mercier eye basic in Peach as an eye shadow primer to make this duo last all day. The quality is great and I love wearing these shades daily.

I really like this duo for everyday use. It gives a a very natural look to the eyes. I gave it four stars because the yellow matte shade is not very pigmented at all and a little chalky even with a base but with a golden-ish like MAC's rubenesque pp it works well. The brown shade is absolutely gorgeous!

This color duo is great in creating the nude/barely-there look. The lighter shade can be used on the eyelids all the way up to the brow bones to open up the eyes, then the darker shade can be used on the creases to accentuate the eyes. I use it if I want the minimalistic, natural look.

Be careful when using the brown shade as it is highly pigmented.

That is my eye in the picture so I had a lot of fun playing around with this duo. The colors came on very matte. I like my shadows a bit more shimmery but the colors are gorgeous and very pigmented so I am very happy with this duo. The lighter color is a buttery yellow cream color and the brown is a chocolate brown. I love it.

My first Nars eyeshadow was Star Sailor and I absolutely love it. My review is slightly mixed for this eyeshadow because its deceiving. In the pan it looks like a white eyeshadow with a dark chocolate shimmery brown. Even when I swiped the darker eyeshadow it showed up a beautiful dark shimmery brown on the end of my finger. However, I applied this today and I'm a bit disappointed!! The white eyeshadow doesn't show up on my pale eyelids at all. So, why even apply this? I do use a primer so there shouldn't be problem. The darker color is pretty. It's a matte dark chocolate eyeshadow. But that's not what I really wanted from this eyeshadow. The strange thing for me is where is all the shimmer? How can it disappear?? I have never had an eyeshadow look shimmery in the pan and the shimmer not show up on my eyelids. So, if you want a matte brown eyeshadow then you will like this. I just feel like I can get a simple brown eyeshadow from a drugstore. This to me isn't special at all. I'm glad I purchased this off of ebay for cheap. I love NARS but I just don't love this.

UPDATE: So, since I spent money on this I was determined to make this work. I tried this today, with a soft gold champagne color, then, the dark brown over top. It looked amazing. I got a beautiful dark warm chocolate brown. I feel the gold really brought out the warm tones in this eyeshadow. I think that what makes this eyeshadow duo not the best because of the pale white eyeshadow that does nothing. They should have put this with a shimmer champagne or pale gold eyeshadow and this would have been a 5 star rating!

This is another NARS eye shadow duo that I love! The duo consists of a very pale yellow shade that is matte, and an olive brown (more brown than olive) shimmer shade. The pale yellow shade works well as a highlight shade under the brow and as an all over wash of color. The brown shade takes the spotlight of the duo though! It has great pigmentation and looks great on the lid, in the crease, or on the outer-v. As with all NARS eye shadows, the darker colors are very pigmented and can easily be overdone, so start out with a little and add more as needed. The colors blend very easily and don't present much of a problem with fallout. My favorite way to wear this duo is to apply my UDPP to prevent creasing and take my 227 and take the pale yellow shade and do an all over wash of color. I then take a 217 and use the beautiful brown shade in the crease and outer-v. Most importantly, I then take my 224 and take the pale yellow shade again and blend out the brown shade. Will definitely repurchase!

The brown is my favorite in this duo. I use it for eyeliner and eyeshadow. The gold specks in it are beau-tiful!

The other color is kinda of boring but I'll use it for a nude look especially when I have the brown on the corners/crease. I'd buy this again for sure.

I waited a while before I reviewed this, but I can officially say that I'm in love. This makes my blue eyes stand out like crazy. I never thought yellow would do me any good, but it brightened up my skin like nothing I would've believed. You're not really going to get any color payoff from the yellow, but it's a beautiful wash/highlighter, especially for my fair skin. The brown is GORGEOUS! I adore this duo, and can't imagine life without it.

Eh. The dark shimmery brown color was so pretty I decided to buy this duo and figure out what to do with the lemony color later. I can use it as a very washed out highlighter or to do a smoky eye with the brown but the color isn't very strong and barely shows up. The brown is gorgeous over black eyeliner but when I blend it the shimmer that I liked this eyeshadow for loses intensity. I love the brown, not too fond of the yellow. Not worth it just for that pretty brown color, I'm sure I can find it elsewhere.

One of my least favorite NARS duos. It looks pretty inoffensive in the pan, but the light side is a matte cream that shows up a very sheer and chalky looking off white. the right side is a dark brown with some shimmer thats a little cool toned, but it doesn't blend well. The dark side is VERY pigmented and can be used to line eyes.

My HG of duos! I have dark blue eyes and medium brown hair and this shadow really looks amazing on me. I definatly will be buying again!

EDIT- This looks best without blending the white-ish color into it...it maintains the shimmer of the brown. I use the white for the spots above my lids.

EDIT AGAIN: This creases.

I'm a eyeshadow neophyte. For those who have perfected their eyeshadow technique this may be too basic but that is precisely why I like it. It is basic so that it can be versatile. On my GA LSF 4/5 I can use the vanilla creme shadow as a highlighter/wash and then later create a wearable daytime smoky eye. A couple flicks of my trusty Trish McEvoy #29 and I'm on my way. The walnut color is gorgeous as a liner as well. This is one of my favorite NARS duos.

I think this is just okay. the cream malt color is not pigmented and barely shows up on my NC30 skintone. Waste of money. The pretty shimmery dark brown color is richly pigmented and prettty in the pan. YOu totally lose the shimmer and gold on the lids and you just get a basic chocolate color. Its also hard to blend. Overall nothing special for $31.

I'm torn on how to rate this duo... on one hand Nars did much better on the quality of the dark walnut shade compared to previous duos but overall, I'm not really impressed by the duo itself. Aside from the amazing packaging and the sleek allure of it, I was intrigue by this duo because of a magazine ad. It had a beautiful smokey brown eye in it and so off I went to Holt Renfew to check it out.

I'm a MAC NC30, BB Warm Sand, LM Sunny Beige with dark black hair and eyes. I tried this duo on a few times... even with a damp brush but the bland vanilla side did not show up. I'm not sure what this was for... but it either was too sheer or matched my skintone perfectly that it was invisble. I'm thinking its the former instead of the later. Even Nars AAE shows up on me. With the darker brown shade, it was my allure. In the pan from far away, it's pretty non descript dark brown. Upon closer inspection, the colour jumps up and reveals a nice shimmer... almost a metallic sheen with a hint of gold. I was THRILLED to see this and attempted to do a smokey eye with it. Then the results disappointed me. Though it was easy to blend and it was smooth, when I was blending the dark brown, the shimmer disappeared!! All that was left was a dull dark brown. I tried again with a damp brush but the colour didnt blend well.

Overall, it can be pretty in the pan but the beauty didnt show up on the skin.

Nars India Song was part of the fall 2006 collection. It is a matt light yellow with a dark olive brown color. The gripe I have is that the yellow is hard to get to show up on my skin. (I am fair with reddish brown hair.) It might also be that I haven’t really used matt shadows. The quality is great, as you would expect from Nars. I am not sure if I would buy it again or not.

this is a really great, wearable, versatile shadow for me (neutral LLL brown eyes with green & amberey orange in them, medium brown hair). i agree with the reviewers who said that there is a little green in the walnut brown shade, that to me makes it more neutral and takes a little of the warmth out. sort of reminds me of a clinique shadow i used to love, blackened khaki, except more brown than green. the cream shade is a great base color highlighter shade for paler skin tones, i like how there is no shimmer in it, looks very minimalist when applied with a light sweep of the browm in the crease, perfect for the daytime or work. this duo makes a great brown smokey eye as well, with nars bengali used as a liner and good buildup of the walnut shade on lashline going to the outer corner and around in the crease, a little nars goldfinger on the inner corners. i feel that a browm/ green smokey eye looks better on paler skinned brown eyed girls than a grey/ black one, i always feel black looks sort of garish with my skin and doesn't bring out my eyes the way that browms, greens and of course purples do. love this one, i am sure to be using this as a go to shadow in the coming months, both for day and night.

I agree that NARS eyeshadows can be hit or miss, and this one is a big hit for me (NC-30ish). The cream color is a great basic shade, but it's the walnut color that really makes this duo great. Though some reviewers have noted the brown color turns greenish on them, I haven't found that to be the case. On me, this is a nice, very deep dark brown -- no red, no shimmer. Exactly what I've been looking for! Great NARS staying power, too.

I have to say that the colour that you see in the pan is not what you get once you put it on. The brown shade is a lovely blend of brown and army green (great for this falls "it" makeup). This combination looked great on me when the makeup artist from NARS gave me a great smokey eye. She lightly brushed on the creamy yellow colour all over my lid and especially over the brow bone. I was surprised this colour looked good on me seeing as I am a CCC with dark brown eyes, but the colour really made my eyes seem more awake. She then used NARS cream eyeshadow in Savage (a "gilded bronze", which also happens to be a very simular to a Shu Eumura eyeshadow I already have, ME350) all over my lid and the brown colour from India song on the bridge of my eye to give me a lovely smokey eye. Later that day I recieved a complement on my makeup from the girl at the Starbucks counter who also wants to be a makeup artist and another compliment from a random guy as I strolled down an aisle in Barnes and Noble. I would definately rebuy. It makes a great alternative to a basis grey smokey eye. Truth be told, I didn't want to wash my makeup off later that evening!

I'm glad I got this. I was wondering if I needed another creme and brown e/s. But its not just another creme and brown e/s... The creme color is more of a pale yellow, which totally perks up the eyes as a wash. It is not chalky on me at all (NW20). The brown is deceptive in the pan. It has alot of olive in it when applied, which is good for me because it brings out the green in my eyes. The pigmentation and the staying power, as usual with NARS e/s, are extraordinary.

This was a disappointment overall for me. Like the previous reviewer said, this is a duo of matte yellow and shimmery golden brown. I found both sides of the duo very chalky. The matte yellow is nothing special -- basic, chalky base. The shimmery golden brown side is gorgeous (which is one reason I gave this a 3 instead of lower), but it is not very pigmented at all. It has to be used wet to get the color true to the one in the pan -- otherwise it just shows up as a nice, basic brown on my non-pigmented lids. That said, I have many neutral shadows, which is why I'm this picky. If you want a nice neutral combo for work and you absolutely want to stick to Nars, this is not a bad buy, and a little bit better than Bellissima (which btw, suffers from the same downsides as this duo) or AAE (where there's no brown). It is warmer than Bellissima, which I think makes it more wearable. If you want to go away from Nars, for a similar color combo to India Song, Shu and Stila e/s would be much more pigmented and longer lasting.
