I bought this hoping that the orange would be cool-toned enough to suit me. Although it's not burnt orange, it's still too warm for me. The brown looks yellowy on me besides. On top of that, the compact is hard to open. And on top of *that*, both colors are super powdery. No thanks.

I love the 2 colors but I think it's expensive for a drug store product. I only bought it during Walgreen's buy 1 get 1 half off sale.

I really like the L'Oreal HiP Flare duo. Both colors are excellent for different reasons. The orange is very bright and highly pigmented. I love to use it in a sunset eye or with several other colorful looks. The beige is less pigmented and makes a lovely highlight shadow for the brow bone or an all-over wash for the eyelid. As with all HiP shadows, they blend easily and beautifully. This is the only HiP duo that I love for both shadows, and the only complaint I have about this one in particular is that the packaging is awful. I don't know why they bother with the little brushes they give you, as they are absolutely useless, and putting them in the bottom makes the packaging clunky and awkward.

Oh i love this!!! I use this for two different entities. As an eyeshadow for everyday, and for blush!!!!
As an everyday eyeshadow, I love how each color pops my eyes. Its smooth and does not crease. The colors are very pigmented and look good on my complexion.
I use the orange side as a blush. I was watching a guru on youtube and she suggested to use orange eyeshadow as a blush. I did, and am so glad. This orange is the perfect blush. Its not too orange, and the sparkles are not too shimmery. its a perfect blush that looks good on my skin. I love it!!!

In general, I only wear mascara. I'm not a make-up person by any means (lazy). But when I'm going out and I want to put in the tiniest amount of effort, I use the champagne colored side as a beautiful highlight under the brow bone and next to the tear duct. Instantly brings so much light into my eyes! The formula is soft and finely miller, sparkly without massive chunks of glitter. As long as I have moisturized before, this does not budge. The brush it comes with sucks (obviously), but the neat mirror compartment that houses the brush is awesome! It will take me forever to finish, but I don't mind. It does not irritate eyes either. I was having a problem with that, but my friend gave me this and problem solved. The orange color is gorgeous, vibrant and equally as wonderful texture wise as it's companion. However, it is difficult to wear. But the champagne color makes up for that.

The product can come out of the pan rather powdery at times, however if you're willing to layer this over a nice base or fixer this really isn't a problem. For a HIP shadow these are remarkably smooth in texture and blend rather well. The lighter of the two shades is a bit too dark to be used as a highlighter imo and tends to look bizarre when packed beneath the brow since its so frosty. I can see this being used as a rather nice lid color for contouring. Both colors wore remarkably well when put with a primer and had very nice lasting power. Of all the HIP duo duds this one is finally a winner and I would recommend it to anyone looking for some inexpensive orange shades. My only problem with this continues to be the packaging - the amount of product given is a joke and the applicator is useless.

This is my favorite L'Oreal HiP duo! Both shadows are very pretty, easy to apply, and blend beautifully. The orange is bright and I like to use it in a sunset eye look, usually with the gold from HiP's Flamboyant duo. The other shadow is a nice champagne that works well as a highlight or as a base shadow for a natural look. The only downfall with this duo is the horrible packaging and the useless brushes.

swatched it for u, above. Flare is a pretty shadow duo. I would describe the colors as orange and champagne. It's not as pigmented as i expected it to be .However, it looks great with nyx milk as a base. Nc50 skin for ref.

This is nice and easy to blend. The colours are pretty true and strong but I didn't like them on myself. The orange was a little too bright- but that is what a lot of people are hoping for. Another good point is that orange eyeshadows aren't that common, so this is a pretty unique look. I think the packaging is nice, but my shadows are breaking up already. (probably my fault but I don't remember dropping this one)
Still a good buy for the price.

What it Claims:
"HiP high intensity pigments™ Concentrated Shadow Duos contain micro-pulverized pigments for ultra-smooth contours and layering. Color that’s purer than pure. Truer than true.
And, like all HiP high intensity pigment™ products, these coordinated shades pack more pigment—for a look that is always captivating. Never fleeting"
Claims - True or False?
1) Ultra-smooth contours and layering: True. This will always differ depending on the brush you are using, but I'd never experienced any major problems.
2) Pigmented: True. This will also differ from duo to duo, but as this one does not contain any chalky colours, pigmentation is very true to the colour and definitely does compare to other pricier eye shadows I have used.
Packaging:
While not amazing, I do not dislike the packaging. Has a clear lid, which I do love as it makes it easy to see which duo I am using without having to open it up. Has a small mirror on its underside, which can be beneficial if using on the run for touch ups and if you are unable to access a mirror. I've read some reviews that state that this is useless or cannot be easily used, but I've had no problem using this mirror while also using the eye shadows on the other side; simply place the colour onto your brush, flip the packaging around, and apply the shadow while using the mirror. If you need more eye shadow, then repeat the process. Older packaging used to list the ingredients as well, which I do wish they'd add again, as it's important for anyone who must stay away from specific ingredients. The sponge brush applicator is an immediate throw-away. Please, do NOT use this to apply your makeup, regardless of how new to makeup you are.
Consistency:
Very soft and smooth, a little bit of shimmer and fantastic colour pay-off. Shades definitely look true to colour on the lids, and layering is optional, as one overall application offers pigmented results. While not chalky, they are slightly powdery, which can lead to minimal fall out when applying. For best application, I like to swirl the colour into the bristles, tap excess off, and then pat onto the lid. When worn over my usual UDPP + sheer cream shadow base combination, I get at least 12+ hours of wear without creasing and/or fading, as with all of my other shadows (d-s and high end). Of course, throughout the day, the colours can soften up a little bit and blend itself together, but the colours still look very fresh and look freshly applied - again, as with ALL of my eye shadows.
I have uploaded pictures of swatches for this duo. All swatches were applied with a thin, dense eye shadow brush, and not with fingers or the sponge that comes with the product.
Ease of Use:
While not chalky, they are quite powdery. When picking up colour, too much will be left on the brush, but this can easily be tapped off. When applying, it leaves a slightly blunt edge, which can very easily be smoothed out, resulting in seamless and clean lines. Blends wonderfully into other shades as well. It is easy to control how vibrant the application is, without being left with uneven colour patches when doing a sheer wash.
Bang for your Buck:
Prices will vary, but I'd guess that the average price would be about $8.00USD. For me, this is a fabulous price, as I do not use the same eye shadow colours on a daily basis. I still have a few of these duos from a few years ago that are only half used up, so for me I'd say these are a good price. I'd also say that it's a fairly inexpensive way for newbies, or even experienced makeup wearers, to venture into the world of colourful eye makeup. If you dislike the blue on its own, you can always softly blend it over the brown, use it as a liner, or even in the crease.
Final Consensus:
I've owned this particular duo for over a year, so formulation may be different. I will swatch them in-store to see if they feel different. I truly do adore this duo. It's smooth, blends easily, offers fantastic colour and is vibrant without being unflattering, and can easily be worn both day and night. I absolutely love the neutral beige colour, as it looks gorgeous against my skin tone when wearing a neutral look or when combining with other more vibrant shades. The orange, while lovely, is slightly too dark for my tastes and not vibrant enough. Looks great against my blue eyes though, but I do generally apply a sheer wash of gold, yellow or orange over this shade, or blend it in with more lively colours. Quality gets a 5/5, but due to my slightly nit-picking over the orange shade, I would rate it a 4.5, rounded up to a five for the website. Definitely recommend!
Overall Rating: 4.5/5
Price: 2/5
Packaging Quality: 3/5
Would you buy this product again: Yes.

I love this color! It's good for a natural look but when you want a natural look that isn't so plain you have that gorgeous orange color to pop in the crease and it really brightens up the look! I love this. Very good pigment and it is very flattering for my skin tone. I'm an NC20 (fair skinned with yellow undertones) and this really looks amazing on me!

Comment on how much of a NARS 'dupe' this is: I own NARS mediteranee and HiP's Flare... I see the L'Oreal was trying to make a dupe, but the finish and quality are very different. The beige side of the NARS and HiP shadows are somewhat similar (HiP's shadow is a bit more shimmery), but the orange is just not comparable, HiP's orange side is a bit lighter and you'd have to apply with with a heavy hand to get anything similar to applying the NARS mediteranee with a light hand. Mediteranee is more golden and earthy looking while Flare is more orange and shimmery and light on application.
In general, NARS's mediteranne is a deeper, earthier, less shimmery and stronger color than HiP's flare which is simmery, lighter, slightly more chalky, and requires less 'finesse' to apply.
This does not mean that the product sucks, they just have differences.
Flare is great if you're in a hurry and what to brighten up your lids a bit (especially if you are DDD), it builds a bit, but if you want the color to pop definitely put on a base and/or apply it wet. The beige highlight is a bit shimmery for a highlight, I tend to put it in the inner corners of my eye as it looks too overdone under my eyebrow. The orange is well, orange and goldish, definitely shimmery, kind of like a cantaloupe, and great if you're on the go and want a subtle pop to your eye. Get this when it is a BOGO free sale, on its own and full retail price this product is not worth it ($7-9 depending on where you live). When mine runs out I won't repurchase, but this product has been good to me for as long as I've had it. The packaging like all HiP shadows is stupid (mirror on the bottom? sponge applicator? why?), but this is in my top 2 of the 5 HiP shadows I have.

This is my first HIP eyeshadow, as I saw people say this one is their favorite.. And it is really great~ it displays on eyelid exactly what it looks like. The orange side is really pretty and unique..out of expectations.. combined with the skin-tone side, it's lively and tender.
Btw, HIP flare 404 looks very much like NARS mediteranee....

I have about 10 of the HIP duos, and this is by far my fav. I use it just about everyday. I love the 2 colors together, I use the orange color on my lid, a deeper maroon color in my crease and the tan color as a highlight. I love the tan color it is an amazing highlight color. They are really soft, almost creamy in texture, and really pigmented. I love the packaging, and will def. repurchase.

This is a really really good shadow duo. The orange color looks a little scary at first, but it comes off as a soft, shimmery cantaloupe. The other color is a light, shimmery gold that is good all over the lid or as a highlight. They look beautiful together, and work especially well for summertime looks. I personally think these colors complement yellower/warmer skin tones best, but anybody can make it work. The packaging is bulky and the bottom-side mirror and applicator are a waste, but other than that, these duos are great, especially when you can find them for BOGOF.

This is one of my favorite eyeshadows. The lighter color is the perfect highlighter for under the brows. It gives a nice golden sheen. The orange side is such a pretty shimmery tangerine, I don't think words can describe how pretty it is. You'll just have to experience it yourself. If you need a reference, the orange side looks just like MAC's paradisco. This duo is perfect for summer bronze look.

This was my first L'Oreal HIP Duo eyeshadow. It's GREAT!!! I love it. I have honey or caramel complexion and I can tell you that this color looks great on me. I like to use the light beige color right under the eyebrow arch and it gives me a beautiful shimmer. I definetly think that L'Oreal HIP are great for their low low price. I usually buy mine from CVS or Walgreens when they have sale going on for buy one get one free.

I generally don't like the neutral side on the HiP pigments, but I DO like like left side of this product. I also LOVE the orange, the only downside is that it wont go on really well wet. That may just be my brush, but anyways, Will rebuy when it runs out
