Spectro Jel does not get the attention it deserves. My doctor recommended me to use this brand 8 years ago to treat my acne-prone skin during junior high school, and I have never turned to another cleanser since.
This gel is a smooth, no-nonsense cleanser that gets you CLEAN. No foaming and bubbles to irritate any sores or other problems on the skin - it is incredibly gentle. Though I've used this cleanser as part of a rigorous routine, it is the foundation of what I do twice everyday, and is gentle enough for whenever I feel oily. Make sure to massage it well into your skin for about a minute to feel really refreshed - the gel-based cleanser makes it so it's not such a chore :)
Fairly-priced and gentle for nearly any skin type. DEFINITELY will repurchase again. It's a staple cleanser that should be a part of any daily routine.

I have VERY sensitive oily & dry skin.
This product doesn't strip my skin of moisture like alot of products for oily skin do to me. It has no smell, and is not irritating AT ALL! Very gentle.
I definitely recommend this brand for people with intolerant skin such as mine.

It gentle and non-drying but it does nothing for acne, though it didn't make it worse. I've tried this one and the one for acne--neither worked. I thinks it's great for sensitive skin but not if you need something for acne.

This is for sure my favorite basic cleanser. I have mild acne, but this doesnt help much with it... it keeps my skin balanced. Lately i have been trying many different products to help my acne (cetaphil, proactiv, clean and clear, neutrogena, ect), and when those don't work the way i would like them to, i always come back to this until i try something new. It doesn't remove my makeup well, but as long as i get rid of it with a wipe before, im good to go. I will buy this again, because it is a really good basic cleanser for my problematic skin, and doesn't dry my skin out.

Not good for washing any makeup off. Therefore I use in the mornings or at night before going to bed. I also use this for cleaning off any exfoliating masks (like the aspirin mask) and it's awesome for that!
I use it with a small scrubby pad (similar to the ones that come with the l'oreal 360 cleansers) and it really helps clean my face than if I was just to use my hands alone. What I also like is I can apply it right on my face without having to lather it in some water first. I also got over the smell pretty quickly. Price for me was alright, I paid around $11 and it came with a full size moisturizer (which I hated) and it lasted me for around half a year.
Packaging isn't too bad either, it's not anything special, but it works! It pumps out just the right amount of product, and while I did find that some of the gel "froze" over the opening of the pump, it's not hard to clean it up.
Overall it's an OK product, I only would repurchase just to clean my skin on those days where I'm not going out. Or to just wash off masks.

Pros:
-Generous quantity for the price paid (500ml for $10 CDN)
-Gentle on skin/non-irritating as advertised.
Cons:
-Smell is quite gross
-It takes a long time to lather in. It says to massage into skin for 30 seconds and it takes a while to wash it all off.
-And despite following the instructions It doesn't remove my makeup the way a cleanser should and I found myself having to cleanse a second time to remove all traces of makhttp://makeupalley.com/product/searching.asp/eup.I feel that this face wash should have good cleansing properties considering it's an anti-acne cleanser.
Overall: A very mediocre cleanser. I don't hate this stuff enough to throw it into the garbage so I use it as a morning cleanser. I gave it a 3/5 (I'd even give it a 2.5 if this site would let me) overall because it didn't cause a huge breakout or cause any kind of skin irritation but it didn't work any wonders on my skin. I wouldn't recommend this product for anyone who wears makeup.

I have combo skin with minor acne issues and was looking for a gentle cleanser in the mornings. I usually use Neutrogena Cream Cleanser in the morning since it is the only one that never dries up my face or make it squeaky. It's always out of stock when I need some so I decided to go back and try out some good ole Spectro Jel.
The packaging is good. It's not pretty but who cares. It's sturdy and the pump makes it very convenient! I hated that my Neutrogena was in a squeeze bottle.
The smell is terrible. WOW. I was fairly alarmed by the glue/alcohol smell. Texture wise it's a clear gel that does not foam. This part isn't so bad.
I'm not sure if it cleans anything but oil off though. Definitely not makeup, so you can back away if you need to to clean anything other than oil! This product is more drying than Neutrogena's Cream Cleanser, but it has not made my face flake up yet. It is alright to use but I wouldn't repurchase. It just smells REALLY weird, barely cleans, and makes my skin feel squeaky while I'm cleansing it.

Controls oily skin pretty well but can be pretty drying. It doesn't really remove makeup and I don't feel it cleans my skin completely.

This is an okay cleanser...it says that it's made for people with combination skin (like me) but it dries out my entire face... I have to use alot of moisturizer after this or my face just flakes. It removes my makeup though...but I have to rub the stuff in for a while....
The package is huge too...so i'm kind of stuck with this for a couple more months... :(

So the last three weeks have been awful for me since my skin got worse when it came to pimples, I usual don't get pimples that stay sooo long but these are and they are multiplying...maybe its cause I have been eating alot of fattening food lately I dunno, anyways this product didn't do ANYTHING for me I really don't like the cleanser because I don't even feel like I washed my face after using this, it's to thin and it NOTHING at all for your acne it's really the basic of all basics when it comes to cleansers, I also bought the spectro acne care pads which smelled strongly of alcohol, maybe I should have bought the acne-prone one instead of combination but all in all I didn't like it and wouldn't buy this product again.

I've been using the fragrance-free version of this for a couple of months and am reasonably pleased. I've recently had a resurgence of acne (after being clear for 10 years), and as if that wasn't bad enough, almost anything I used on my face would make it very red too. While Spectro-Jel doesn't help with the acne, it doesn't make my face red, and seems to tone down the appearance of blemishes. It's interesting because I can't quite tell if it makes me break out worse or just if my skin is continuously purging - using this has made the blackheads on my nose much easier to extract somehow. If you're accustomed to foaming face washes that make your skin feel squeaky clean, this will take some getting used to, but it's a good thing: while my face doesn't feel 100% stripped "clean," it also never feels tight and dry. An added bonus is that this is what tattoo parlours are advising you use to wash new tattoos - it's very soothing in that capacity. The texture is a very thin gel, almost watery at times, which again takes some getting used to, and the fragrance free version honestly smells like hard liquor of some sort, which was slightly offputting at first. My only major complaint is the price - the 500 mL pump bottle is about C$20 with tax @ Shoppers.

Before using this, I used to use Cetaphil but they didn't have any left at the Shoppers Drug Mart by my place so I bought this one instead because it is supposed to be a gentle cleanser as well. I love this cleanser, honestly. It cleanses my skin without drying it out or anything. Since this cleanser doesn't remove makeup well, I only used this in the mornings, and a different cleanser at night.
For acne, I don't know what it would do. I did use this cleanser when I went threw my acne phase and it didn't seem to do anything for it or make it worse, but it's still a great cleanser.
I've since stopped using this cleanser because I've run out and bought a different cleanser because I don't like buying the same product twice, but if my skin ever became really dry or sensitive, this will be the product that I will buy.

My skin was never got too oily to begin with but I did usually get slighty oily on my Tzone and rarely on my chin by the end of the day. It doesn't really do what it claims on the label, "deep cleans while protecting skin's natural moisture". When I tried this cleanser out with me and my sister (has oily skin), we both felt like it was drying. This also doesn't fully remove my makeup, for me that's a sign that my skin isn't clean but I could be wrong maybe my skin really is clean :S . The smell is horrible, like the hospital soap, a kind of sterile smell?
...I tried using it for a couple more weeks, and it made my skin extremely oily and broke out.

I have suffered with oily skin for about 5 years now. I hardly have any acne cause my parents never had acne but I do break out here & there before my period (which is common) But when I first found out I had oily skin (summer ugh) I was scared to death of getting a lot of pimples. Weirdly I didn't get any hardly, just mostly blackheads :( & awful oily skin that looked like I was sweating all the time. My sister told me about Spectro Jel 3 years ago (she uses the light blue one for dry skin) & I bought this one for around 12$ at Walmart. Ever since then, I love this stuff! It keeps my skin soft & oil-free til I have to wash it before I go to bed. Though, first couple weeks I didn't really notice a diff like I do now. I wouldn't really use this at night to remove my makeup cause I find that my skin doesn't feel as clean after so I use St.Ives Scrub at night but I do use Spectro Jel every morning. Overall -- It's cheap, lasts long & works.

super gentle cleanser, I mean this in that it wasn't super harsh on my skin
my dermatologist told me cetaphil and spectro gel are two of the best acne cleansers ever, but cetaphil was sosososo harsh on my skin, and irritated it way too much!
so I came back to this and my skin was happy again :)

I have been using Spectro Jel cleansers for the last 15 years. When they came out with this one for combination skin I switched and I really like it. I use it as my morning cleanser as it doesn't take makeup off easily unless you double wash.
It leaves my skin very soft and I find it is just as gentle as Cetaphil but cleans much better.

This isn't the best cleanser I have used, but it isn't the worst, not by a long shot.
I always like to hear bad news first so here are the cons:
- It doesn't wash your face clean if you have any medium-heavy makeup on it. I found this out after I "washed" my face with this stuff & then followed with toner. I was still picking up makeup with the pad I was using with the toner. I assume that this is one of those "removes dirt & oil ONLY" cleansers, so I would recommend, & I do it myself, using a cleansing water or an all over face makeup remover beforehand. With this method, I certainly do get a clean face.
- The smell is less then desirable. I know cleansers aren't meant to smell amazing, but this almost borders on a medical smell. I hate it since I work in a hospital & smell medical solutions all the time. This is the last scent I want to smell at the end of the night when I am washing my face.
Okay for some positives:
I really am a fan of cleansers that you can put on dry & then wash way with a damp face cloth. You can do exactly that with this. No mess & easier to control where I am rubbing the product.
In terms of how it treats my face... it doesn't make it breakout, dry it out or irritate it.
So overall it's all ok... i'll use the big pump bottle I purchased since I have it & the product isn't raping my face, but this will definitely not be a repurchase.

this product gave me terrible cystic acne. i figured it would be similar to other spectro products which have been pretty ineffective on my skin (no spectacular results but nothing bad either) but i was sorely mistaken. I have now spent the last month trying to repair the damage from this awful cleanser
