Chanel lipsticks seem to work for a lot of people, but sadly not for me. I have similar problems with this as with my Rouge Coco - it goes on patchy, doesn't moisturise and forms a lipliner ring. I bought Guerlain's Rouge Automatique along with this and the difference in quality for me is vast. This doesn't even work well as a tint over a balm, it still somehow accentuates my dry skin. I can only use it fairly successfully if my lips are completely smooth and healed.
The two points are mainly for packaging, shade and finish. Other than that, my cheap Dermacol Lip Seduction lipstick does a better job than this. And guess what, it has that click-pull opening mechanism too. :)

This is the 1st red lipstick I own and I like it! It's like a deeper blue based red with fine shimmers in it. It's moisturizing so it glides on easily and feels very comfortable on the lips. It also lasts decently, I usually only have to retouch once or twice in a day. It's full on boldness so it's a good choice for those who have pigmented lips and want true color to show.

Lover was a gift, but I know it is a really expensive lipstick, so I took the cost factor into account while reviewing it.
As I have fair skin with yellow tones, Lover comes across as a purply-red when swiped onto my lips right from the tube. It looks gaudy and really unflattering that way. FYI, Lover is a blue red.
However, when I dab it onto my lips lightly as a stain, it works wonderfully with my skintone as it comes as a lovely light rose shade that makes my lips look natural yet polished at the same time. It is almost like I can't exactly tell if I'm wearing any lip products, but the lips look so pretty and others can't help but keep wondering!
Texture-wise, it is fine. Moisturizing, pretty long-wearing (could be because I wear it as a stain), 4-5 hours before I work a tiny little bit into my lips again.
I might not repurchase it again because looking at the way I'm using it, it will last for eons. Also, the shade does not really work for me, but we'll see how it goes. Maybe I will repurchase it for memory's sake, but the verdict remains unclear. Not totally impressed, but Chanel lipsticks are the kind of benchmark I set for other lip products I buy because the quality is really out there for me.

I'm not a happy consumer off the bat, because I was really in love with my "Coco Red" Hydrabase. I loved the rose scent and taste of my Hydrabase (weird I know). Anyway "Lover" is too purple-y for my dark skin and comes out looking more cordovan, than red. The only thing cool about this is the packaging. If I had been in the market for a mauve colored lipstick, I would have been over the moon with "Lover" but as a replacement of the Hydrabase "Coco Red" red. Not. So. Much.

I didn't expect to like it when I saw how it looked in the tube but what a diffference when it's on the lips! Gorgeous colour - classical red that is not too bright, not too light and can be universally flattering. It's very moisturizing and it does not bleed which is the best combo. Unfortunately, it's not an everyday colour but I think that every girl has to have a classic red lipstick to match her little black dress.
The only negative side is the price (keep in mind it's more of a special occasion lipstick) but I do think that it's so pretty it won't get a lippie off because of this :)
And the packaging is superb - such a pleasure taking it out of the bag and reapplying (something that doesn't really happen often since it's super long-wearing!).

Lover is a softer blue-toned red with a slight frost effect. At my age I prefer this shade over a true blue red. It isn't as harsh looking. It seems to go well with fair-medium skin tones. I have received compliments when I wear it. I bought it to wear for Christmas and New Year's Eve. I own Ruby nail polish by ES, which is a blue toned red. I think it will be a good match for it. Nice packaging with the click lid. It won't come open in your purse. It takes me a while to go through a lipstick, so I am not sure it will still be available when I finish it sometime in the next year.

Lover is a creamy rose red. Dabbed on the lips it gives me a bitten stain more on the pink side, full on it morphes into a deeper red color, cool and rich but still sophisticatedly muted and wearable. The formula is mosturizing, glides on smoothly and wears well for a long time. I'm a sucker for elegant packaging, so the sleek black tube with the click bottom makes my little snob heart sigh in bliss evertime I pull it out of my makeup bag. My favourite way to wear this lipstick is with quite a lot of soft pink blush, curled lashes without mascara and a soft curl in my hair. Youthful with a twist.

I love love love love love this lipstick! I got it on my birthday and wore it all day and all night. I thought with such an intense colour it would fade or smudge and I would be retouching it all the time. I kept going to the bathroom to check it but it was always fine! Unbelievable. Its a gorgeous red, deep, luscious and sexy. Certainly not for those days when you don't want to be noticed!

I am a red lipstick fanatic and of course I had to have this one in my collection! I am giving it 4 lippies only because this is not my MOST favourite red, plus its tendency to bleed, but with that said, I do love this lipstick very much. I bought it as a "lipstick version" of the RA Lacque Dragon, which is probably my all-time favourite red, but even though Lover is very close in colour to Dragon, there are slight differences. I would describe Lover as a cranberry red (which I think someone already did below) and a must-have for anyone who likes red lisptick. It is a very classy red, probably more appropriate for evenings (but I do wear it during the day as well). I have numerous RA lipsticks and they all tend to be different in terms of the texture/finish. It seems to me that this particular one is on the more moisturizing side of the spectrum. If you like reds, I recommend buying lover, but make sure you use a lip primer or pencil to prevent bleeding.

I happened to find Chanel Rouge Allure in Lover by accident. I was looking for Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon which was sold out. The SA suggested the new RA in Lover for me. It looked really dark in the tube but I tried it on and it was love. It's a red lippie but not an in your face red. it's blue based and more of a raspberry red. It is especially pretty with Chanel Equinox Glossimer over it.
will post pics in profile of me wearing Lover

Well, I was convinced that these 56+ year old lips would never wear red again without looking like a total fool until I came upon Chanel #09 Lover...wow!
I have been loving every single Chanel lip product for awhile now but never gave more than a longing glance to the reds until this past weekend. I went to Lord and Taylor to ask for a replacement of a recently purchased lipstick (Rouge Allure, #75, Amusing-lovely) which, after two weeks of use, broke off and left a messy and totally unusuable tube. SA was so gracious and without question gave me a new tube. While she was looking for it, though, my eyes drifted again to the reds that seem to be part of a new promotion and I cautiously picked up "Lover". It certainly did look red enough in the tube but the SA reminded me that Rouge Allures go on gently and kinder than most so I gave it a try. It looked lovely but was not convinced because I had on a very summery, light blue sweater and did not feel the connection right away.
So home I went to check my ever faithful MakeupAlley to find out if anyone my age range had anything to say about this color-all good comments so off I went today before work, wearing all black (typically) and tried Lover on again....wow! I felt so sensuous and powerful all over again that it makes me want to pack up all the summer colors and dive back into the black again.
I am a fair olive, if that makes sense, brown eyes and brown hair. I know this color won't work for everyone but for those who can do it do not be afraid to try this color. It does work for day as long as everything else, in my opinion, is simple and, of course wonderful for evening. I swear I know women at work were looking at me today wondering what was different but I never let on.

Pros:
--The best wearable red I have ever encountered. This shade of red has blue undertones. I almost looks like a dark rasberry in the tube.
--The packaging is innovative.
Cons:
--This lipstick is crazy expensive! I would not mind cheaper packaging to save on cost.

I just bought this lipstick, and LOVE it!!! Every girl needs a classic red lipstick, I have been searching and searching for the perfect shade, and now i've found it! It makes me feel absolutely elegant. The packaging is the cherry on top, and the name is perfect :) Though it is pricey, it's well worth it because though it has such a "pow" effect, it feels like you're not wearing anything and it's durable.

Though this is quite an expensive lipstick, I am so glad I bought it! With my yellow undertones, blue eyes and brown hair, I've found it hard to find the right shade of red. However this slightly more pink shade of red is AMAZING! It makes my eyes pop, and it looks just as great dabbed on with my finger on top of some lip balm for a light colour, or for full on 40s va-va-voom style.
The packaging is elegant, classy and practical in one. The texture of the lipstick is smooth and creamy but with a lot of pigment. I find it stays on well, and it is easy to control how dense the pigment is on your lips.
I would recommend the Rouge Allure series to anyone, and this lipstick is my absolute favourite.
Edit: I reviewed Chanel's Rouge Hydrabase in Marilyn as I bought it recently, and I have to say it comes out on top! The shade of this IS gorgeous though, so I'd still recommend it!

I have been searching forever for the perfect red l/s and have finally found it in Lover. The color is a matte berry red and it lasts for hours, even after eating. I love wearing this with Chanel Joues Contraste powder blush in Narcisse. For a picture of what this lipstick looks like on, take a look at the picture of Reese Witherspoon in my profile. I have never paid this much for l/s ($30US), but Lover is so worth it! It's absolutely breathtaking!

Lover is a gorgeous, deep cooler-toned cranberry red without shimmer. It's creamy, with a soft shine and very long-lasting. Definately one of the most beautiful red lipsticks I've ever seen. Looks great with Chanel Carmine lipliner.

I am a sucker for red lipstick, and this one is probably my favourite. It's a blue-toned red, rather than an orange-red, and will suit those who have cool colouring. I have pale skin with pink undertones, and this lipstick work beautifully on me.
The packaging is so clever and luxurious, and makes me feel like an undercover starlet whenever I use it. Chanel is great for making one feel special.
My only complaint is that it tends to dry my lips out so I have to work twice as hard to keep them hydrated after using it.
Oh, I should probably mention that I get a lot of male attention when wearing this lipstick. It's definitely a head-turning shade. ;)

Lover is a very sexy, very cool-toned (blue undertones), luscious rich red. Gorgeous. Really complements my fair, cool-toned skin, and makes me look like a doll (in a good way). I really like the Rouge Allure line not just because of the great colours (or the cool and oh so fun packaging, but that sure doesn’t hurt!) but mainly because the formula is highly pigmented, long lasting, feels smooth and creamy, and is not drying at all. My lips tend to be high maintenance and are very easily dried out and become flaky. I wear it with the Precision Lip Definer in Carmin. These are very expensive lipsticks but didn’t disappoint and lived up to all my expectations for the perfect red lipstick. HG red for me.

I have found my staple red lipstick! It looks fantastic when applied with a lipbrush. In my opinion, red lipstick MUST be precisely applied with a brush or else you'll look like a tramp.
Whenever I have those special nights out or when i just feel like I want to get glammed up, I click open the tube of Chanel. I love how this shade works with my skintone.
I won't buy this product again in the near future ONLY because I hardly use it, so it'll last me quite a while.
