This just went in the garbage after holding on to it for far too long hoping it would magically work for my hair. Dries my hair out like crazy and makes it very unmanagable. I don't know if my tube went bad, but it also smells AWFUL.

You have to use too much gel for the kind of hold & it is not a wet gel look as well. It does tame frizz well though. This might work for someone with shorter hair than myself. very sticky!

This did nothing to give my hair a wet look, I was very disappointed. The "extra strong hold" didn't hold very well at all. Gel is too sticky and the packaging leaks.

I was pleasantly suprised by this gel. I bought it to experiment with slicking my hair back and maintaining a "wet look" without resorting to pomade, but I actually like it even more, and use it more frequently, as a style-setting product to be brushed out once it dries. I air-dry my hair every other day or so, usually when I don't want to be bothered (or don't have time) to blow-dry, and I need a product that will keep my hair's natural volume and frizz in check once it's dry. When my hair is towel-dried I apply a bit of Infusium's Frizzologie leave-in, then apply this gel all over the hair, roots and ends, and brush it through. I slick my hair back, let it dry completely, and then use my hands to "brush" the style out and let the hair fall into place. I'm left with a natural-looking style that has an interesting, piecey, almost-damp texture. This gel would be ideal for achieving those sexy, summery beach waves that you see on red carpet starlets from April to mid-fall every year. It doesn't leave my hair sticky at all, a notable achievement for a gel, and it doesn't dry "crunchy" - just slightly stiff, as all gels will do. It has a flexible hold that maintains the hair's shape but allows for lots of movement, and it doesn't dry the hair out. I swore off gels for years, loathing their stickiness, drying effect, and schizophrenic nature - are they about hold, or looseness? Curl-enhancing or smoothing? But this gel may have turned me around. I'm not giving up my mousses or blow-dry lotions just yet, but Wet Shine is a definite repurchase.

I like this gel a lot. It's inexpensive and has nice hold (but not too much). I'm confused by previous reviews because I don't see alcohol listed in the ingredients (unless there's an alcohol ingredient with a sneaky name). I posted ingredients below. I like the smell of this gel (consistent with other Garnier products) and have not noticed any dryness or flakiness, like I get with some gels. Nice product, worth a try.
Aqua/Water, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, PVP, PEG 14 Dimethicone, PEG 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, VP/VA Copolymer, Acrylates/Steareth 20, Methacrylate Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Polyquaternium 4, Triethanolamine, Parfum/Fragrance, Polyethylene Glycol, Sodium Methylparaben, DMDM Hydantoin, Polyquaternium 11, Linalool, Limonene, Amyl Cinnamal, PEG 192 Apricot Kernel Glycerides, PEG 70 Mango Glycerides, Citral, Citrus Limonum (Lemon Extract), FIL

I agree with boyextraodinaire's review. I bought this gel thinking it would work well, even though it is not alcohol free, I thought the shine factor, along with some of the fruit extracts would make up for it. The only good thing that I found about this gel was that it smelled wonderful and was not overly sticky. The bad things about this product were that it made my hair crunchy, dried out, did not provide shine and did not hold my style the way i wanted it to. Thus, I ended up returning this gel;there are much better ones out there that do not contain alcohol.

This product smells great and holds your hair like hairspary. But it doesn't leave your hair to a major shine unless you apply it on wet or damp hair.

I bought this product due to its high review by Paula B., whose commentary on items is, in my estimation, fairly accurate.
I don't like this gel because it there are so many more out there that deliver equally well, proving shine, containing no alcohol, while costing half the price.
LA Looks' Wet Look gel, for example, does the same thing as this product, but provides a stronger hold and cost considerably less for 3x the amount of gel.
This is by no means a terrible product but there are better options available that deliver the same - or better - results for less $.
The package quality is fine, but I don't like the look - entirely subjective - so I'll give it the average rating it deserves for the league its in.

This product has gotten amazing reviews and, with this mine, the streak continues. I don't have frizzy hair, but I did have extremely dull hair. I comb it through my hair while a little damp (just so the gel doesn't clump up in one area = easier to spread) and then muss it up a little so it doesn't look like Snape's slick, greasy hairdo. There's a nice healthy-looking shine to my hair now and because some strands receive the gel (darker) while others don't (lighter), there's a 2-tone color that's very pretty. Repurchase!
Edit: After a couple uses, the effect kind of went away for me. It's just hanging out in my bathroom now, not really being used. And if you use just a little but too much, your hair will clump up and crunch x__X it's kind of gross. Instead, whenever I want to use it, I wet my hands, THEN squirt some gel onto them so it can dilute itself before going on my hair.

I really like this gel! I have frizzy, thick hair with a slight wave and I definitely liked the look this gel gave me. I towel-dried my hair and let it sit a few minutes (it was still pretty damp) and then I just "slicked" the gel through my hair and put it back in a ponytail. It ended up with a nice, low-maintenance look. It wasn't curly, or even wavy really, I would call it more of a "beachy", "just got out of the ocean" texture except with a lot of shine and yes the "wet look". It also helped to control my frizz very well. I loved the shine and was surprised that it actually did give a "wet look" as promised. I don't think this product is for everyone because some people aren't really into that type of look, but if you are this is perfect! Also, if you don't want any crunch I wouldn't recommend this--my hair was a little hard or crunchy. But IMO theres no other way a gel could give a "wet look" without making hair a little crunchy. I didn't see it as an issue, but some might. I am not very good with styling techniques, so I think this is a great product too for people who are into a wash-and-go style that doesn't require a lot of technique. Plus it smells so good--a clean scent that lingers all day. I'm so happy I tried this!

This makes my hair really shiny! I scrunch it into my hair every morning and walk out of the house with bouncing, glossy curls. Although this doesn't have as much hold as I'm used to, it crunches a whole lot less. Works well & is inexpensive, I can definitely see myself buying this again.

I've been having a good run with Garnier hair products and figured I'd try this gel since it has such good ratings.
I washed & conditioned in the evening with Garnier Length & Strength products, then used the Curl & Shine Leave-In and finished with this gel and let it dry over night. My results weren't as good as some of the others.
This gel has a *much* harder hold than the Garnier Hard Curl Gel. I had a hard time scrunching out the crunchiness and never fully succeeded in some areas. By the end of the day some of my curls & waves had held up and some of it didn't. So I had a mixture of still hard waves and poofy frizz. Also, the hair that was still holding some shape ended up drooping and stringing out. I didn't notice any shine that was more than what I would get from any other gel.
I wouldn't repurchase this because I prefer the Hard Curl Gel. With that one, it holds the shape of my hair without being overly hard & crunchy, it's easy to re-style, and at the end of the day my hair holds more of it's style than with the Wet Shine Gel, it just gets softer and slightly less defined.
P.S. The smell of this reminds me of latex paint and it's runny. The upside down tube works to get it out, but my hands end up slippery from the product and I dropped it a couple of times and the gel splattered in my bathroom. It would be better in a pump.

This is really good stuff! Not stiff at all, and works well on my wavy, heavy hair. Agree with y'all below - makes a ponytail look like a real hairdo. Smooths the sides, fluffs the tail.

Yes, this contains silicone, so you really have to clarify every now and then when using this; but it is a wonderful product and does a good job of controlling frizz and gives my style some decent hold that is not stiff or crunchy. The shine is really noticeable and gives me a semi-wet look. Its also affordable. The only gripe I have is the smell, which is really strong but fades after a hour.

i use this when i pull my hair straight back into a bun, before putting in fake ponytails. i slick my hair back into a bun, then i use a quarter sized amount to rub between my hands and smooth over my hair. it holds GREAT, smells good, doesn't flake, and gives good shine.

I like this gel! I found the curl shaping gel doesn't have enough hold for my thick wavy hair when scrunching, but this does. Also, when I put my hair in a ponytail, I run a tiny bit of this over my hair and it makes my ponytail look so much sleeker and keeps frizzies at bay, even after two hours of basketball practice. Love!

I am reviewing the new Garnier Fructis Brilliantine Shine Wet Gel. I really love this gel!! It works excellently in my very long, fine textured naturally curly hair. I had my doubts about this, but decided to give it a try because I've been looking for a product that would add extra volume, hold my curl and not make my hair sticky. Well, this is definitely the product for anyone who desires extra hold and volume without stickiness. I can't say enough good things about this product - and another big plus is that it is dirt cheap! Such a good product for such a small price and it smells really good too. I will continue to buy and use this product. Please Garnier, do not stop making this one!

I used this for a latin dance competition when your hair has to be SHINY, wet, and slicked out. Accompanied by hairspray, this totally worked! I loved my look. It was fabulous. I think that this is a good gel for those kinds of competitions, and basically everybody who wants a little oomph now and then.
I would definately buy again!

I have fine hair and I love using this for ponytails. If you use too much it can get a little crunchy, but not nearly to the extreme most gels go. I wouldn't say I get a "wet look," but it makes my hair incredibly shiny and keeps flyaways in check. It does have silicones and parabens in it. It doesn't flake either. I plan on trying the other reviewer's idea for using this with rollers!
