This is my favorite brush!! I have not had any problems with shedding, and I have had mine for probably 2years now. I use it to apply my BE mineral foundation. It is so plush and soft. I can't imagine how it could be any better.

Brush started shedding like crazy. Then this morning almost the entire brush fell out of the base. I take good care of my brushes and use the case when traveling. Until the shedding started, I liked this brush, soft and easy to use; however, I expected quality that would last considering the cost and MUA reviews. That is the reason I selected this brush. Edit: As another reviewer noted, I wrote customer service; no response. Will not order another product from Cat. I also note that recent reviews have not been as favorable; perhaps the quality has changed.

I bought this brush based on the reviews here since the one that came with my BE was rough and sheds everywhere. I was happy for a while but then the brush started to shed. It didn't shed as badly as the BE brush but I expected NO shedding. Then, the entire brush came out of the holder and all of the hairs fell everywhere. I am very unhappy. I have not written Cat cosmetics yet but based on the previous post, I am not expecting anything. The only positive thing is that it came with a very handy, very nice case.

I have had this brush for several years, use it every day and it's still like new. Very seldom any shedding at all and it works great. A definite staple for me.

decent brush.. but not great, especially for the price! like many others, the hair pulled out of the base in a big clump. I had it for a year and rarely wear makeup so it's been used about 15 times.. and washed about 5. I emailed Cat Cosmetics about the issue and didn't even receive the courtesy of a reply. I did not expect a replacement but for them for not even acknowledge the issue is bad service.

I have had my brush for less than six months, loving the softness of it...until a HUGE CLUMP slowly started falling out!!! I take excellent care of my brushes, washing every other week or so in baby shampoo, and NOTHING like this has ever happened to me, even with cheaper brushes! I am very disappointed and I am going to contact their company to inform them of the poor workmanship. Other than that, the brush is nice and soft with a great carrying case.

For those of you who are considering this brush based on great reviews from someone else who already owns one, find out if that person bought their brush before Feb/March 2006. If you read back through the reviews at that time, you'll see that Cat Cosmetics changed to include a black case with the brush at that time, and perhaps changed to a different brush altogether.

Like many of the other recent reviewers, I bought the newer generation brush in the black leatherette cases (the one featured on the Cat Cosmetics website now), and the hairs of my brush also separated from the base in big clumps within a few months.

way too expensive, you could get a better one at target. didn't put any powder on that well, and it did fall apart. didn't like cat's cosmetics either.

The second time I washed it, the bristles completely came apart from the base of the brush. I use make-up brushes every day and have never had anything like this happen. I don't care how soft it is, this sort of shoddy worksmanship is unacceptable.

I absolutely love this brush. I've had mine for at least a year, and I use it daily. It's sinfully soft and densely packed with bristles. It applies mineral make up with a smooth, even finish, and is great for bronzers or finishing powders as well. I like the feel of Cat's kabuki so much that I will sometimes spritz it with a hydrosol and buff it all over my face mid-day to freshen up my look. The brush did shed color the first few times I washed it, but it has held up to many, many washings without a problem, and I've never seen any color tranfer to my face or makeup. Good kitty!

I had this less than a year, while I did love it it fell apart htis week. I have had BE brushes for years and never had this problem. This was my favorite but for the money I won't purchase one ever year!

This is my second Cat kabuki and sadly, my last. While the softness of the bristles can't be beat, the quality is extrememly poor. Both brushes immediately needed washing because I noticed a gray tinge to my skin after applying my MMU...it was the dye from the bristles. When I washed them, tons of grey/black came out. The first one I purchased got about two months of use before the bristles seperated from the head of the brush and fell out. There was no way to fix it so I just threw it out and ordered a new one thinking it was a fluke. The second one lasted through about 3 weeks of use and one washing with baby shampoo before it did the same thing!!! This is the only brush I've ever had do this and most of my brushes are at least 3 years old! Will not repurchase.

This is BY FAR the ABSOLUTE BEST kabuki brush that I have ever tryed for puting on my mineral makeup!!!! Its super super soft and yet nicely dense enough for achieveing a beautiful airbrushed finish! I have rosacea and let me tell you that this brush is ideal for those with sensitive skin, Im sooo happy with this brush, I just love it!
*****UPDATE***** 10/28: OMG! My brush fell apart today! all the hair bristles came out? I was pretty disappointed as you could imagine! I called cat cosmetics and they told me I must have gotten a defected one and that they would send me a new one! well I hope that the brush their sending me last at least a year!! I still think that its a great brush b/c its super soft but if the brush fell apart in like 2 or 3 months.. it kinda makes you think?? I took very good care of my kabuki! Thats how I know it didnt fall apart b/c of me! I guess the quality isnt as great as I thought it was??

I absolutely agree with the description on the Cat Cosmetics website, this is the "rolls royce" of kabuki brushes. I have the Bare Escentuals kabuki brush but it's very rough compared to this one.

The best kabuki brush ever.

When I asked the board which brush was best for applying mineral foundation, it was this one...hands down. Now I see why. It's the softest brush I've ever used, much like MAC's 138. I think it does an excellent job with my Bare Escentuals and Everyday Minerals foundations. I definitely get a full coverage out of it. In terms of shedding, I've had one hair fall out and that was it. I'd give this 10 lipsticks if I could.

This brush is very soft BUT it also sheds a lot, is too small, and the black dye color washes off when you clean your brushes. I bought it on sale for $27, which isn't THAT bad, but it's still overpriced for the actual product. I use it to buff on my mineral foundation, and it works ok if you want a very, very light application. It doesn't seem to very durable, and is rather flimsy as well. I would not repurchase, and should have returned it.

EDIT:MY BRUSH BROKE TODAY!! The brush/bristle bundle broke apart from the handle, so I am going to have to reglue it or throw it away. This is after VERY light use, and only ONE rinse with a brush cleanser.

I purchased this brush May 2006. It is now April 2007. This morning, my kabuki died.

For this past week I've been hearing weird "cracking" noises - guess that was the glue coming off from the base. I use this daily to buff in my BE mineral makeup and wash it approximately every two weeks with a gentle cleanser, being careful not to let water get into the ferrule. Oh well, guess all that care didn't pay off, because it has barely lasted me a year! WOULD NOT REPURCHASE.

NOT A GOOD BRUSH FOR MINERAL FOUNDATION!

The Cat Kabuki is not as good as my Smashbox #19 Face and Body Brush! My Cat Kabuki is shedding like mad. After two uses, it's lost about 20 hairs already. I hope it stops shedding soon.

It's also not as dense or soft as the Smashbox brush. The denser the brush, the better it is for mineral foundation application. The Cat hairs give away when I buff, whereas the Smashbox brush does not. I feel like with the Cat I'm damaging the brush by buffing. The Cat is also has a smaller brush head so it takes longer to apply foundation.

I'm going to keep the Cat since it was $27 with the monthly discount and the case it came in is very cute and handy for traveling. But for everyday, I'm going to use my Smashbox #19 brush.

UPDATE: I bought a generic Pretty Pretty Kabuki brush. It's a little smaller than the smashbox #19 in terms of the head but very dense, soft and perfect for buffing. Don't buy the Cat Kabuki if you plan on using it with mineral foundation, it's too soft for buffing. Search on ebay for "ultimate buffer" to find the generic version of the pretty pretty kabuki. It's only $18!

After reading the reviews and with it being on sale I thought, what the heck and purchased one. I am so happy with this brush. It is soft and applies makeup smoothly. If you are on the fence jump off and buy one.
