I am almost finished with my first bottle of Nivea Summer Touch Firm Gradual Tan Body Moisturizer for dark skin tones and have purchased a back up (which was on sale for $6... SCORE!). I have used several other brands (i.e. St. Moriz Instant Self Tanning Mousse, Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer, L'Oreal Sublime Glow Daily Moisturizer, and Vaseline Healthy Body Glow) and I think the Nivea gives me the darkest results. I have naturally light skin tone, probably NC 25/30, but I always purchase self tanners that are made for medium or dark skin tones because I want the darkest result in the shortest amount of time. I don't use self-tanners as a daily routine because (a) I'm lazy and (b) can't stand the self tanner smell. It's a wide known fact that it doesn't matter what brand of self tanner you buy from, whether its high-end or drugstore, you cannot escape the stinky biscuit smell that develops on your skin after 1hours of wearing self-tanners. The odor is basically the chemical reacting with your skin turning it a darker shade. So the reasons why I think Nivea is my favourite of the bunch are (1) The consistancy is runny and easy to spread on the skin (L'Oreal and St. Moriz have this going for them too) (2) I get significantly dark after one application and get my desired tan after two. I usually apply two days consecutively if I want to show some skin on a special occasion. I have tried a third day application once, and I was way too dark for February in Canada. (3) I have yet to experience harsh streakage. Streaking is hard to avoid when using self-tanners, unless you're really good at it, which I like to believe I am. My tip to avoid streaking is to firstly exfoliate with a body scrub in the shower in conjunction with a skin buffer tool such as a loofah or exfoliating shower gloves. Make sure you really scrub at your feet and the areas around your ankle, knees and elbows. Secondly, keep your skin moisturized on the days you are not using self-tanners. This can help extend the life of your tan and also prevent the self tanner from clinging on to dry patches of rough/dead skin. Thirdly, use a self-tanner mitten to apply the product. The mitten is usually made of a foam material that does not soak in any product and distributes the product evenly on the skin. My mitten is from the brand Velvotan and I purchased it for $7 at Shoppers Drugmart here in Canada. Lastly, use a very minimal amount of self-tanner on your feet, knees and elbow because these areas are what I call the "danger zones", sometimes I avoid putting any product on these areas and only smooth over what ever is left on my mitten lightly over these areas. Now, to be completely objective, I will tell you what I think are the not-so-good aspects of Nivea Summer Touch (a) It stinks and the odor is very much prevalent after 1 hour of wear. The stink actually stays on you until you take a shower. If the stink was a fragrant, it would be an eau de parfum if you know what I mean. The best smelling self tanner (or the one with the least offensive smell) in my opinion is the Vaseline or the St. Moriz. (b) Drying time is pretty average among self-tanner; I usually wait about 3-5 minutes before I sit down and 10-15 minutes before I put my "good" clothes on. The best time to apply self-tanner is before bed, because you can put some dark pj's on that you won't have to worry if they stain. I have white bedsheets so I am pretty anxious about going to bed before my self tanner has completely soaked into my skin. Other than these two negative points, I can't think of any other cons. This product is altogether very good and definitely worth the trouble because the tan that it gives is very natural looking and is very dark in a matter of two applications. If you're in the market for self-tanners, give Nivea Summer Touch for "dark skin tones" a try, but make sure you are well exfoliated and moisturized! Self tanners require a bit of effort and time if you want it to look streak-free. :)

This is undoubtedly the best gradual self-tanner I've ever used (and I have tried quite a few different brands, with varying results). After just a couple of daily applications, my skin is a glowing warm brown and best of all - no streaking! Yay! The consistency is very thin, so you can apply it as sparingly or as liberally as you want. There is a self-tanner smell, but it's not terribly strong, and I have yet to try any kind of self-tanner which doesn't have that smell.

I'm Asian and get a tan in the summer with very little help, but my legs for some reason need a bit more encouragement. I have legs two shades lighter than the rest of me, and large pores on my thighs, which is distressing. This lotion gave me a noticeable, glowing tan and reduced my pores' visibility. The scent is not bad but it is fairly strong. Has a very thin consistency, but you really don't need to apply a lot of it at a time.

I've actually used this for three years now & for 2 main reasons: it doesn't turn me orange and it doesn't smell like i rubbed toxic waste all over my body. I've always been hesitant to try new self tanners because of the fear of turning orange. This moisturizer definitely doesn't have orange tendencies, however my skin has turned a little yellow once or twice from it. All I do is lay off it for two days & everything is back to normal. I'm not sure why that happens... over application I think. The smell is very reasonable. I've used a Coppertone self tanner, which worked fine, but it smell like death! The biggest con for this Nivea self tanner is the bottle. I really wish it had a pump! But for the price ($6-7) it's not that bad. I've certainly paid waaay more for worse moisturizers! 4 lips for less-than-par packaging & the yellowing factor, which thankfully has only happened twice in three years.

A lot of self tanners have clumped up in areas or left me look streaky orange. But this self tanner is really nice. Its smells good when I apply it to my skin, however during the course of the day it starts to smell like other self tanners, which I don't like. But for those that do not mind the smell, then this self tanner works great! I have a fair complexion and this self tanner gives me a nice and natural looking tan.

Self-tanners are just one of these products which has just been improving and improving over the years. I used to only buy high end self-tanners because you couldn't find anything decent quality self-tanners on the drugstore shelves. I love this one because it is so easy to use, and you can be so lazy with it because it doesn't get very dark and it's a very gradual process. I used to exfoliate like crazy before it and make sure I shaved a couple days before, and I had to wipe my knees and elbows after using it and wash my hands a lot. With this, none of this fuss, I can just apply it like a cream and I will get a glow the next day.If I decide to apply more than I definetely need to exfoliate. Overall I would say it's excellent value. One con is that they put a strong perfume to mask the self-tanner. I would say the smell is still a fresh smelling perfume but quite strong compared to a regular lotion. Anyway, this works, I love it.

I have been using this for the last few weeks and so far the results have been so-so. I'm very fair and have been using this on my legs. It has definately added some colour to my skin, but the smell of this product is awful and not worth it! The price was really good and as a moisturizer it's okay, but again the smell is really nasty, even for a self-tanner.

~ I recently just put this on my legs (about 3 hours ago) and already a slight tan starting to develop! :)
I got this in the shade for medium to darker skin tones (I have medium/lightish skin, sort of hard to explain) in the summer I do not tan very fast, unless I soak up the sun for a good 5 hours. the only place I tan fast is my chest arms and thighs since they are darker then my calves. I was going to get L'oreal Sublime bronze but this was a steal for only $6.00 so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try this instead. I have not tried this on other parts of my body yet, I want to see how this will fully show up on my legs but I have a good feeling so far, also this smells amazing- sort of like some sort of exotic fruit....most self tanners, even ones that are suppose to give you color in a few days all have that generic smell (Jergens for example Pleh)....anywho I will obviously do an update within a few days or earlier...I have a feeling my tanless summers are about to end :) ~
-EDIT-
Its been two days and my legs have a nice color going on, I think the reason that I got results so quick was because I got the medium shade- I really like this, but I think I'll get the light tone for my arms and such since I want to have dimension. I really recommend this and its a good price to!
This is my new love, I admit I was a little rusty at applying this at first....however the trick is to put some lotion in your hand, rub it together and apply it in a circular motion and Voila! a gorgeous bronze even tan ( My calves were just a hint blotchy at first as I was applying to much, nothing terribble though) I can't wait to try this all over now since I got the perfect application method down pat :D however there is one con- and one that I think all self tanners have....I shaved my legs a few days ago before heading out with some friends, and to my dismay my claves got all streaky afterwards (sicne a razor blade will exfoliate) I was pretty mad but I found a trick that works. I used an electric shaver yesterday on one patch of hair that was growing in and luckily there was no streaking, I haven't tried this on my full leg but I hope it does work which Im sure it will since electric shavers sort of just buff away. Anywho that was a long review but I felt the need to mention it :)

I love this product! I have very vary fair skin and I DO NOT tan. The sun only burns me and gives me more freckles...yay? Anyways I'm impatient and bought the product for 'medium to dark skin tones' and it still works amazingly. I was afraid that it would make me look orange because of my fair skin but it did not. I did notice that because I bought the darker one that I have to be extra attentive in making sure it blends or I will end up with a streak or two. I use it almost everyday and I always get compliments on it. My boyfriend loves how it makes my skin feel as well as the smell.
My only problem with it is how quickly it fades.

This stuff is FANTASTIC. I really love it. It is a smooth white lotion that's easy to apply and smells amazing. It gives you a nice natural tan (not orange at all) and as long as you blend it in well during application your skin comes out looking completely seamless and streak-free. I've gotten several complements on my legs looking tanned so that is a plus. This stuff is magic.

This product is fine. It give you a bit of a tan, without making you orange. You could get some darker places though if you don't scrub before you use it or if you put too much product on places like elbows and ankles. Make sure you wash your hand after using it, you don't want selftanner between your fingers. It think the best thing about this selftanner is that you can build the colour and get it the way you like.

i already bought about 5-6 bottles of this, and it is for me the best gradual tanner/moisturizer. its not too expensive, does not tan too much, just makes u look healthier, and it spreads easily. it does not smell too much either, and my boyfriend always says to me "wow, ur skin is so soft" after i use it!

I love this product.
I have pretty pale skin for an asian, and whenever I need a bit of color
on my skin, I lather myself up with this product, and after 2-3 days,
the skin looks nice and golden =)
Don't need to go to the tanning salon, or lie on the beach and turn myself
into a lobster.

I like this product! I like the fact that I can apply this lotion everyday without looking like a cross between a carrot and a human.
Pros:
-Smells soooo good, probably the best scented self tanner
-Applies easily
-Since it is a progressive tanner, it is foolproof: no streaks, no uneven patches
-I am in control of the darkness
-The colour is very natural, like a rosy beige brown, very likely to the colour I naturally tan, and most important, not orange
-It is a great moisturizer
Cons:
-The lotion takes some time to dry
-The colour doesn't last long on the skin

I think Summer Touch is great. It has a very pleasing fragrance (I actually love it...it reminds me of one of the seasonal Escada scents) and though it is gradual, the end result is very natural-looking. Some reviewers have complained that the results look orangey but I found that not to be the case. I used it only on my legs because my arms are already quite tan and I thought that with continued use, my legs were able to reach a more similar shade to my arms (although not as dark...I would prolly have to use a lot more product more often). I would not use this as my main moisturizer as I do not find it deeply moisturizing but it will diminish mild dryness. Otherwise, I'm very pleased with it and would buy it again.
