Love this basecoat! I used to use NailTek Foundation and had trouble with peeling, breakage, and nail softness. Prior to having my nails under polish 24/7, I had extremely strong nails. It was only after starting to polish my nails all the time that I started getting problems. Thankfully, those problems are no more with this basecoat.
I've been using Essie Sensitivity Basecoat for about 3 weeks, and even without giving my nails some rest from being under suffocating polish and without rehydration sessions with nail oils, I'm not getting any peeling or breakage. My nails have gotten long--at this point with NailTek a few nails would have already snapped off. But with Essie Sensitivity I'm still going strong!
Also no chips!! With this basecoat, I can go one full week with a perfect mani. Could go longer, I'm sure--but that's as long as I can go before I start getting bored. :D

This is a great base coat. I have no idea if it actually prevents peeling, as I've never had that problem, or if it actually hydrates the nails but I do know that it helps prepare the nails for polish, helping the polish last even longer and even when I'm not wearing polish I like to brush this on to give my nails that clean-just-buffed finish.

I love, love, love this base coat. I don't know why I've waited so long to review it; I've been using this for years. I alternate between this, Essie's first base base coat, and a couple of OPI's base coats, but nothing compares to this one. It supposedly moisturizes nails to prevent splitting and peeling. My nails are strong and healthy, and any nail lacquer I put over Sensitivity base coat lasts longer than with any other base coats I've tried. It's toluene and formaldehyde free, so it doesn't dry nails out. However, it does contain DBP (dibutyl phthalate), but that has never really concerned me. I hope Essie never discontinues this base coat.

I can't understand why this hasn't been reviewed before. I've been searching for a base coat that would cure two problems: 1) my manicures never last--after 2-3 days they start to bubble and crack; 2) some base coats and treatments make my nails split and peel, even though they're naturally super-strong. (The worst culprit so far has been Opi's Natural Base Coat, which wrecks them every time. Incredible.) I've been wanting to try this for a while, but it's hard to find, so finally got it when drugstore.com started selling it. Wonder of wonders, my manicure lasted for SIX DAYS (and the only reason it came off today is that I was wearing a Calico nail bandage under the polish that started to peel). No bubbles, no peeling edges, nothing--just solid nail polish. And now the polish is off, my nails feel smooth, silky, and strong. I'm impressed! My only slight complaint is that the whites seem a tad yellowish, but this could just be that my nails are dirty . . . . 5/14/06 update: I've now gotten it to last with no peeling for over a week at a time. Incredible (for me at least). 8/10/06 update: it has also worked well for my mother, who has real problem nails.
