Terrible product for my fine, dry hair. I was hoping that this spray would give my hair some subtle waves, a nice change from my usual flat, straight hair. What I got from this spray was hair that at first felt sticky and looked just as straight as before. Later, the product hardened, and segmented my hair into what looked like strands of spaghetti. Not what I was going for. I couldn't figure out why this happened, as I certainly didn't use too much product. I still don't know why this was so bad, but I figure it's because my hair is too fine for this kind of product. It would probably work better on thicker hair.

I had such high hopes of this product. I have medium-length, thick, mostly straight hair that gets a slight natural wave when its got razored layers. I bought this hoping to define those waves a bit.
I've used it with every possible styling combination I could think of - on dry hair, wet hair, with blow-drying, scrunching, tying my hair in a loose bun after applying etc etc. Well, all this product ever did was leave me with limp, dirty hair. Definitely won't be repurchasing.

I'm kinda Meh about this one. I have stick-straight, limp, flat hair, and I've been trying EVERYTHING to give it some nice natural waves. I heard that this was the cult product for creating beachy, summery waves, so I was pleased to find a couple bottles last summer at my local Bath & Body Works. Well, I've tried it in every imaginable way- the bottle directions (spray into damp hair and form into waves with fingers), using it in conjunction with heated curling products (rollers, blow-dry), and even making a series of tight buns on my head and spritzing this stuff on top. When my hair was finally dry, I really didn't see any noticeable change. I'm pretty much going to put my bottle up for swap now.

My hair: naturally wavy (2B), fairly thick, highlighted, frizz tendencies (especially here in south Florida). A lot of people call my hair curly, but it's definitely more accurately described as squiggly S waves.

I have been searching high and low for years for a product that would make my waves look good enough so I didn't feel compelled to blow my hair out straight and flatiron it all the time. This is it. I have tried to many gels and creams that leave my hair crunchy or kill the wave on the top half of my hair. I bought this on a whim, thinking I might just bring it along to the beach, because I didn't think a mere spray could define and hold my squigglies.

Well, it does. I really can't speak for how this would work on truly straight hair, but on mine, the best part is the lightweight definition. The waves on top stay put. The product does not hold up by itself outdoors in the humidity for long periods of time, as my hair still frizzes. It will not replace a good frizz serum.

I am a fan of using this as a second day restyler, even if I straightened the day before. I spray it in dry hair -- maybe 8 sprays for my thick, just-past-the-shoulders hair -- and dampen my hair all around with wet hands, activating full squiggle power. I towel dry in a scrunching motion all around and am magically left with fast-drying waves. This product is far more effective on damp hair than dry, which will probably just leave you with a mess.

For $22, and all the great reviews on this website, I was expecting more from this product. I have naturally wavy hair, but was hoping for the look I get when I come back from the beach. This left my hair looking pretty much the same as it always does, but crunchy. Definitely not the beachy tousled look i was going for.

I bought this from space nk after reading the reviews on this website and i was quite dissapointed with my purchase. For £18 i was expecting something a lot more impressive but the packaging is very average as is the product itself. I have no problem paying this sort of money for hair products if i feel that they are actually worthwhile but for me this one wasn't great. Also it didn't smell like a luxury product ( although my boyfriend quite liked it and kept sniffing my hair) to me my hair smelled like wet dog! I have naturally curly hair which has become straighter due to over use of the irons and regularly changing the colour. I used to be a fan of Aveda's be curly but found that this wasn't having much of an effect. My hair still goes curly after coming out of the sea which gave me some hope for the Fekkai beach waves but i ended up with an unimpressive frizzy mess. I will finish off the rest of the bottle but i will not repurchase this, i would like to try the bumble and bumble surf spray but i don't really want to fork out that much money if i'm going to end up with similar results.

This is a great product, but there definitely is a margin for error with this one. It is pretty easy to overdo it and end up with hair that feels, oddly, both crunchy and greasy at the same time.

I have fine, shoulder-length hair that is wavy in some spots and straight in others. Here is what I do with this product:
1. After showering, I comb and part my hair and spray the ends with a bit of mop shine spray. My hair frizzes a bit, so a touch of this at the ends helps a lot.
2. When my hair is about half to three-quarters dry, I spray about six or seven pumps throughout my hair, focusing mostly on the bottom. I try to keep away from my roots as much as possible.
3. I scrunch like crazy, and I also take my fingers and make some little twisty coils here and there around my finger.
4. When hair finishes air drying, I spray a tiny bit more shine spray on the ends if it looks frizzy, and then I tease the roots a bit.

The finished look is kinda Rachel Bilson-ish.

I definitely like this product more than B&B Surf Spray and also more than the Freida Ocean Waves. It smells delish and doesn't feel bad on the hair, provided you don't overdo it. I haven't used a hair dryer since buying it, which is fabulous.

Let's see...Slightly wavy hair, thin strands, but a lot of 'em. A millon flyaways. Height of summer. Baltimore: temp=95, humidity 100%. I was hoping a couple sprays would morph me into Kate Hudson. Maybe my expectations were a tad too high. But you gotta admit, when I test something out, I go for broke, baby. Okay so I wanted to see what this did on its own--without any other products or styling tools because I'm not into hair bruhahah in the dead of summer, so I washed and conditioned my hair, got the water out, and sprayed this throughout. I also tried spraying it into my hands and combing through my hair. Maybe I scrunched it walking out the door. But no curling, no de-frizz, nothing else. Either way, I got the same result: high-volume frizzy hair. Which sounds bad, but actually it was more like I went from messed-up frizzy to "I meant for it to be this frizzy" in a kind of "my hair looks like this because my life consists of surfing and sunning, and because I took a roll in the hay this morning instead of eating breakfast." But, I'm afraid a little more on the crazy Cyndi Lauper side than Kate Hudson. Oh well--I threw on some sunglasses.
.
I took away a few lippies because it's a wee bit tacky and because you'll have to do a test-run if you want to use this with other products--most work just fine, but there were a couple that when used with this stuff left flakes in my hair. The price is also pretty steep and I can't stand the irony of spending that much for a look that supposed to be naturally care-free. Makes me feel like a sham--more than not knowing how to surf.

I'll start by saying I have pretty fine hair that gets sticky very easily.
When I jumped outa the shower this morning, it was already too hot out side to crank up my blow dryer.( I live at the beach... I moved to the beach so it wouldn't be so hot during the summer) So, I let my hair dry on the way to work. When I got to work I decided to spray some of the fekkai beach waves in it to give it a more "I meant for it to be a mess" look. I was pretty impressed. It did provide good texture and volume. BUT my hair feels a tad bit sticky. I usually go a good 4 or 5 days with out washing my hair( thank god for dry shampoo!) but with using this product I might have to wash it in the morning. we'll see. I could see this being fabulous for that person with thicker wavy hair.

For everyone who doesn't like this I don't think you're using it right because I used to just like it cause it smelled good and did absolutely nothing for my hair..don't follow their instructions...they make it useless.
Here's what I do.
First, I wash with Fekkai Luscious Curls Shampoo&Conditioner.
Then, i squeeze out the water in my hair, and brush through.
Squeeze out more water.
When it's moist but not dripping (I can't get a lot more water out)
I put some Garnier Fructis Curl&Shine leave in conditioning cream in my hair. I apply generously.
Next I spray Beach Waves in my hand and scrunch. I do this all over, generously.
After, I give a couple last spritzes in my hair and scrunch.
I spray a little Frederic Fekkai Glossing Sheer Shine Mist in (though I don't think I need it with this product)
Then i air dry.
Before I go to bed, i put my hair in a low ponytail.
I wake up and use Garnier Fructis Root Lifting spray or Nexxus Volumizing Mousse at the roots and style.
Voila gorgeous waves.

while as i really love the smell of this product, (it smells soooo summer-like -- coconuts and pineapples.. yum!) the price was a bit steep. and also i found out that if my hair was dry when i put this on, it would leave a sticky mess on my hair. so i have to rub it on evenly while my hair's still damp after shower. when used correctly, it does give my hair the shine and the curl that i want, and it tamed the frizz too (i have really fine but frizzy hair). and plus, did i mention that the smell is heavenly? with that said, i still probably won't repurchase, cuz again, the price was steep and it's now approaching winter months and i don't particularly wish to smell all summer-like in the cold months.

I keep this from a 5 because I think it's darn expensive for what it is...that said, this is an AWESOME product! My hair is ridiculously fine. And I do mean ridiculously. Length: about 3-4" past shoulder length and a slight natural wave if coaxed. This is the only product I've ever used (and I have tried A LOT) that gave my hair thickness and body without weight and without stickiness or crunchiness. It makes my hair "dirtier" which it needs for any sort of thickness. Almost like "2nd day hair". Though the label says "heat activated" I find it to work just as well with air-drying as well as blow-drying. I just let hair dry, spray at roots, scrunch/tousle, and done. I get a very slight wave with a lot of body. The smell is DIVINE. Like a summer-y coconut-y beach suntan smell. I love it. BF has also used it and likes it on his short hair. I think the packaging is great. Big enough pump that you get a good amount of product out (but not too much) and sprays evenly without clogging.I have heard this is limited edition instores but always online. I would definitely repurchase (although would be ecstatic if someone made a dupe of this!).

Love this product! I've been using Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray and while I loved it, it tended to leave kind of a sticky mess in my hair, not to mention my bathroom floor and the nozzle would get sticky as well and not work. Have had none of the above issues with Fekkai Surf Spray! I've been a Frederic Fekkai fan for a number of years now with his shampoo and conditioner and used to use his cosmetics back in the day when he made them. Back to the wave/surf spray...I'll definitely buy again, in fact need another bottle to keep in my gym bag. Really like that I can use it on wet or dry hair so it's perfect to use after a workout. I have shoulder length, naturally curly hair and this spray makes me have lovely bouncy curls!!

Love it, love it, love it!!! I have long hair that has a teeny bit of wave to it if I don't blow it out straight, but during the summer I like to have wavy hair and this product achieves it without the hard, gelled up, crunchy look so many products give. It also adds volume and smells like a fun day on Maui! Just wish they would issue it year round.

I bought this primarily because it protects hair from UV rays since I use the B&B Surf spray to give me tousled, beachy hair but was also looking for a new beachy spray because B&B surf spray leaves a salty mess all over my bathroom :/ . This Fekkai spray did NADA for my hair. I liked the smell but this did not give my hair a beacy texture or help create waves even though I twrilled my hair to give it shape. I didnt use a diffusser because it doesnt say u need a blowdryer for it to work and I dont like using heat on my hair in the summer, 100 degree wether in Northern Cali you know.... Overall a very dissapointing, expensive product.

FF Summer Hair Beach Waves worked great for me. I have fine slightly naturally wavy hair (that I usually dry straight, or if it is humid out I give up and put it up). I use the Summer Hair No Frizz spray first on wet hair, twist sections of hair, dry just a little bit with a diffuser, then add the Beach Waves - result is no frizz whatsoever, and really nice, big, soft waves all over - no crunchy or sticky feeling at all. I haven't done my hair wavy in a long time because i never really liked how it turned out - but this product helps make my hair look great. I highly recommend this.

I was really surprised by this product. I usually am not very impressed with Fekkai products but this one really made a difference in my hair.

I have fine, wavy hair but lots of it and usually when I air dry or try and scrunch it it ends up looking like a horrible mess. I can't believe the difference this spray makes! It makes my hair soft while controlling frizz, and gives enough hold without being crunchy! The smell is divine and I have already repurchased even though I still have 3/4 of a bottle left.

great product, I was a little worried about having that icky brittle feeling you sometimes get with these sprays, but I didn't have that problem. My hair has a bit of natural wave, this just amps it up a bit without frizz..

I was reading a magazine and found this homemade spray (it came from one of the stylists at the FF salon in NYC) - an 8oz spray bottle, fill with water add 2 teaspoons of sea salt and couple squirts of gel - shake well and spray on. I have a feeling this will give you almost the same look and plan to give it a try later this summer.

Wow, am I glad I found this. I have wavy thick hair and this turns it into beach curls that last all day. I spray it on damp hair and finish drying with a diffuser on my hair dryer. The hold is soft and moves. It's freaking great!!! Now if only they sold it all year. I guess I'll have to stock up before summer ends.

Straight-hair girls, you can use this too! I have pin straight Asian hair and I really wasn't hoping to get waves but I heard that Beach Waves gives mad volume to straight hair so I bought it and--what do you know!--it's true. After blow-drying, my hair was not only 3 times thicker and fuller but Beach Waves also gives my hair just enough texture without looking greasy or going flat the way it does when I use texturizing products. If I twist my hair up the next day while I get dress and do my makeup, it gets pretty close to tousled beach hair minus the waves. Hey, if I can only have one thing I'm glad it's volume, which Beach Hair certainly delivers. Also, I usually hate the smell of hair products but the coconut-y smell of Beach Waves is delicious. This stuff is fantastic!
