I have given this a couple of chances and although it does give me a tanned glow, it always turns so streaky and patchy for me and is so difficult to scrub off. It smells lovely at first but the self tan smell really does come through. It gave me the colour I wanted, but the fact it is so hard to scrub off and left such dirty streaky marks put me off.

EWWW this is awful!! It turns you a disgusting orange/yellow colour and it stinks! At first it smells nice and then the smell develops into a granny biscuit rotten mushroom smell! EW. I have this normal one and recently bought one with +soft shimmer which i saw my auntie use, and she says it works well, but no... no! It looks ridiculously unnatural. It can get rather blotchy on me too... I wont be buying this again, such a shame, i really wanted it to work well. I noticed that maybe with one application every now and then you would probably look fine, but i applied two coats.. 2 days in a row, like it says.. apply daily! And its turned into awful orangey yellow. Thank god ive only done one of my arms, couldnt bare my whole body being like this. EW. Maybe I can use up what I have with just applying it say.. once every 3-4 days.. But wont be buying this again!

Even though my skin is a lot more on the fair side, I use the 'Medium to Dark' instead of the 'Fair to Medium' version of this bodylotion, as the latter doesn't really give me that much of a visible tan after using it once.
The 'Medium to Dark' bodylotion gives me a nice tan overnight without making me look like a tangerine, which is always a good thing. It gives me a tan with a yellow undertone, which is a bit different from the tan I get by sunbathing, but it still looks natural.
When I'm happy with how tan I am (mostly after using it one or two days in a row), I keep up my tan by mixing a bit of Dove's summer glow with a regular bodylotion of a similar texture to avoid becoming too dark and streaky.
The bodylotion gets absorbed quite quickly and makes my skin feel soft and smooth.
The scent of this product is nice, fresh and sweet when you apply it onto your skin, but after a few hours it unfortunately develops into the typical musty 'fake tan smell'. I use this self tan before I go to bed though, so I can rinse off the smell and the 'film' that the product has left over my skin during my morning shower.
Also, the body lotion rubs off onto my bedsheets, so you may have to think twice about the combination of sleeping with this fake tan and white/light-coloured bedding (or clothes, if you want to use this product during the daytime).
Overall, the bodylotion is worth the price. I've recently finished yet another tube, and as I'm still happy about the effect of this self tan, I'll buy a new one again soon.

OK, so I am white, hence I consider this a tanner not a lotion (I do use the medium/dark version though). Think Caspar the Ghost and you've got me . Hence I have been using this product for years, mostly during the summer season. I love it because:
* it's easy to apply (i.e. I use it in place of moisturiser after hopping out of the shower without that it makes me stink or look like zebra if I have ONE dodgy application)
* it's easy to get hold of (in the UK). Everywhere from supermarkets to drugstores sell it - and they often do promotions which makes it super cheap to buy. I then stock up as I know I will eventually use it.
* it's hypoallergenic - I used the Johnson&Johson version of this product and thought I'd got fleas until I realised the itch was coming from the self-tanner (kidding)
So why am I writing this review now - in the midst of winter? I was going home on the tube the other day after the gym, in kneelength pants, and this guy was staring at me like he'd seen a ghost. So I trotted off to Boots today to get more of this stuff, thankful that it exists!

I got this because my feet were looking rather pale compared to the rest of my body which is pretty tanned all year round. It made my feet orange - I think because I put a really thick layer on before sleeping. It was quite hilarious.
But after this incident I used thin layers everyday/every few days and this worked a whole lot better. So do not put a whole bunch on at one time people! :P
I like the smell as I put in on but once it dries and starts to sink in, ooooh boy. It's like this biscuit smell. Not a pleasant biscuit smell... Like a weird floral, rotten biscuit smell. If I sleep with it on, my bed smells like it, eurgh.
But overall it is a decent product. I wouldn't buy it again though.

Love this, use it every Summer. I'm quite pale so I use the fair skin one and in a few days I'm all tan and glowing. I exfloliate with just brown sugar and water before and shave my legs. Then I dry completely, and run this everywhere but my underwear line and my face and wait for it to dry (does so quite quickly). I sometimes sleep with it on, but it does feel slightly greasy if you use too much so I wait about 20 mimuntes and lightly shower and dab my skin. I do 'step two' for about 3 days and I'm glowing! I use a normal moisturiser for the next few days the keep my skin mositurised and use the tanner again when I need to.
I love it. So cheap, doesn't smell really bad (I use it so often it just smells like summer to me) and doesn't stain clothes. Just make sure you wash your hands after or they'll look slightly orang e(only because the palms of the hands are brighter than the rest.

I don't understand any bad reviews of this product!
I absolutely love it. It makes my skin super silky and gives me a really even, natural looking tan over time. It's also great for maintaining a self tan you got from another product :)

I have to start by saying I love this!! I always go back to it as one of my cheap gradual tanners it really is amazing, despite its perk..... which is the fake tan smell - it lingers on for days, but if you are not fussed about that then this is great. It might not work perfect on pale skins but I am olive skinned and I get it in the normal to dark skin and it works great! It adds a glow and a bit of colour which is not streaky at all. Garnier has also introduced something similar to this which I have tried and I still come back to this! I also found this very moisturing..and my skin is quite dry to start with. No matter how many fake tanners I buy I always have to have this..! It does what it said on the tin therefore I would definitely recommend!!!

I have bought the normal to dark skin lotion. I have repurchased this several times while trying other products in between. The colour pay off is good – not too dark or light. I can slap it on without it being patchy or streaky. The fragrance is ok, a little bit fake tan. It could be that I associate its fragrance with fake tan. I don’t find it very hydrating and it is a tiny bit sticky. Ultimately, I like the colour and it's a cheapie which is why I repurchase it.

I really do not like this stuff at all. Firstly it smells absolutely disgusting and the smell stays on your skin days later, and it is also really sticky for some reason - it didn't soak into my skin very much at all. I also found that sometimes when I applied it for a few days in a row I didn't see any results, while at other times I could.
And as for the colour, it doesn't look natural at all. I bought the light to medium bottle and after applying it once for only two days I was teriyaki orange! I hate to think what the medium to dark cream would be like.
Definitely not buying this again

This product is my life saver. For me it's pretty much impossible to get a tan in this english weather so to stop me looking like a flaky ghost I always wear Summer Glow. It gives me an even coverage but doesnt make me look like a carrot. It also keeps my skin smooth and hydrated. Its my cheap, easy solution to a full on fake tan (or a real tan!)

Not such a fan of this product, I did use it for a while, as my Self tanning stuff, and it smells a bit bad, it left me quite blotchy as well, you really need to concentrate on making sure its all even. The packaging I found quite annoying as well because I had to keep it turned upside down so that I could get the product out properly when I used it. Now I use St Moritz which is a kind of copy of St Tropez, waaay cheaper, not sure you can get it in the us but its like £2.99 here.

I bought the 'normal to dark' skin variety... At this time of the year (winter) I'm quite pale, so I probably could go for the lighter version. However I always find with gradual tanners that the lighter colour turns be orange and I get a golden glow from the darker colour...
This product is easy to apply, non streaky, only has a slight smell, and doesn't get very sticky like most gradual tanners do. However it does not turn my skin a golden brown colour, after 3 applications it turned my skin an awful yellow (heading towards orange) colour. I've tried less applications, and he colour payoff is not even worth the bother. Dove I had so much faith in you, you've done so well for me in the past... Unfortunately not this time!

Being very pale i'm naturally weary of self tanners, but having been recommended this by a fellow fair skinned friend I decided to go for it. It's easy to apply, I rub it into my skin in small circles to avoid streaks and it leaves me feeling so soft and shimmery.
I don't usually see any difference in colour until the day after when I get a lovely bronze glow which last for around 2 days. I've tried reapplying for a few consecutive days but find I turn orange very quickly, this is probably because of how pale I am but i'm happy enough with the result that 1 days application gives me so it's not a problem :)

This product comes in both 'Fair to Normal' and 'Normal to Dark' skin types which is great! The best thing about this product is that it is a moisturiser AND gradual tanner.
I have very pale skin and find both shades work well. Sometimes if I'm looking for a less obvious tan, but still want some colour, I use the lighter one. I generally use the darker one as it only takes about 1-2 uses for me to go a nice brown colour.
You can definitely trust the colour of this tanner! Because you are in control of the depth of tan, you can stop whenever you are happy with it! I personally find anymore than 4 uses of the lighter one for me can start turning into an orange oompa loompa shade.
One thing I have to say (which should really go without saying!) is EXFOLIATE! With any kind of tanner, whether it be spray on or a gradual tanner - you must exfoliate! Always have a nice fresh canvas before applying fake tanner. This removes all the dead skin and any buildup which could cause the tanner to go patchy/streaky. It also helps to have a shave before use too as shaving can sometimes cause streaking (usually once the product starts to wear off)
To use this product I first have a shower and exfoliate and shave, this gives me a nice fresh canvas to work on. Once completely dry I apply the tanner all over my body, taking special care around my knees, feet, elbows and armpits (you may want to go lightly on these areas). I also do my face with it (this is a personal preference), always make sure you do your neck and behind your ears! I then stand stark naked for about 20 minutes while it drys - make sure it is dried completely before you get dressed, go to bed etc. I also try avoid bending too much while it is drying to avoid lines.
I have found that with my dry skin it can get a little patchy when wearing off - it really depends on how much you have used and your skintype. Sometimes it comes off without me noticing, and other times I need to get the exfoliating gloves on and buff it off.
Overall I think this is an amazing product - it looks great for a good price!

I brought the 'Fair to Normal Skin' one as I'm currently a bit pale since we are in Autumn heading into Winter here in NZ. I like that I can control how dark I want to get since its gradual so I don't look like I have gone out and gotten a really bad spray fake tan. This is not orange at all! Hallelujah!! (A big problem I find with fake tanners in the past). It made my skin a light golden brown. I exfoliated the first time I used this and applied it every day after showering for the last 4 days. I'm starting to see a 'glow' in my skin and I'm about two shades darker which looks natural. I've stopped using it for the time being since I'm happy with the shade now, but can always go back to it. This smells really good like the other Dove products and has left my skin super silky smooth!! I didn't get any streaking or darker patches from this product since I exfoliated, but I'm sure I would have if I didn't. It absorbs fairly quickly depending on how much you apply, and doesn't transfer even if you sweat. Pretty pleased and happy with it! :) It also comes in a 'Normal to Dark' shade.
