I don't know why I thought I needed this product...oh wait, yes I do...a beauty guru from YouTube raved about the wonderful pigmentation and great value of the "Day 2 Night" quad by ELF, so when I saw that one, I figured I'd get this one too, since I LOOOOVE neutrals.
In a nutshell, I find that the pigmentation of the 2 lighter colors are basically COMPLETELY LACKING, and the darker 2 colors are just okay. If this was your only eyeshadow quad that you had with you and were trying to make a look using more than 2 brown colors, good luck. The eyeshadows are not buttery/smooth/creamy at all...I don't know if they were just "too pressed" or what...I feel like I need a pick-axe to chisel off the top layer so that maybe I can get to some actual pigmentation underneath, lol. Also, the triangular size of each of the colors are so small, but of course, I expected that for the $1 price tag.
Anyways, I opened Butternut first, and of course, the brush that comes with it is junk (a first for me, since I usually am the only reviewer who keeps/sort of likes the brushes that come with products, lol. For the record, I own TONS of brushes, so it's not like I don't have any, I just hate to "waste" things that theoretically COULD do the job, lol).
I then tried some of my higher-end brushes, still nothing showed up on my lids! The two lighter shades completely don't show up on my NW20 skin, even with Bare Minerals' eye primer (the best I have right now). As stated earlier, the pigmentation of the two darker shades is JUST OKAY...even my Maybelline 8-palette eyeshadow in Sunbaked Neutrals has more pigment than this (IMO, Maybelline eyeshadows have been a huge MISS in the pigmentation department for about the past 5 years). It's kind of pointless IMO if I have to grab two palettes to make a look, not that I'm lazy, but I already have tons of these neutral colors!
I was just hoping for something small for my makeup bag in my purse that would have great color payoff for quick looks, but no. Honestly, I'd rather have my $1 back...and I'm afraid to even open the Day 2 Night quad. *Sigh*

The only color I use in this quad is the darkest one and use it as my all over lid color. I already hit pan and I'm almost OUT! I love this quad so much and it's only $1! You can't beat that. I'm prolly going to go out and buy 5 more.

Two different ratings for the different colors.
For the pale yellow and the pink/peach color on the left: So much glitter fall out, and not the subtle shimmer, big flecks (not well color coordinated glitter colors either). Not appropriate for the office.
For the dark brown and gold: When I'm lazy, I use the gold color as a thick eyeliner on top and just slightly shade the bottom lash line and I'm done! The dark brown is a little darker than I'd like to use as an eyeshadow but as an eyeliner, it gets the job done. Like everyone else says, worth it for the two colors on the right.

This quad is a lot better than the more expensive ones at drugstore. The colors are very blendable, especially the brown one. A winner!!

On my dark skin, you can barely see the two colors on the left. However, the colors on the right are pretty and pigmented when I put them over UDPP. The shadows are easy to work with and blendable, and at $1, I don't mind that I can't use half of the shades in this quad.

This is a really great little quad, especially for $1. I've been using the two darker shades nearly every day for the past several weeks. The brown shades are very pigmented and smooth. The lighter shades aren't as pigmented but are good for a highlight.

Since I can't always afford my favorite Clinique eyeshadow duo called Double Date - this works as a very close second. And for the price, it really can't be beat.

I noticed whenever I would apply eyeshadow, my face would always seem overdone like I was going out to party or something... I could never find that "everyday wearable eyeshadow". Till yesterday, I pulled out this quad and OMG finally! I put it on a fresh face and these are the "every day shadows" I've been looking for!! It doesn't make my face look over done, definitely wearable for an every day look and it truly makes my eyes stand out without looking like I'm caking on the makeup ! :D I am very happy to have found this. HG every day eye shadow status.

I picked this up at the Dollar Tree after hearing multiple YT reviewers tout thus as having dupes for MAC's Woodwinked, a gorgeous goldeny-bronze shimmer (furthermost right-hand shade in this palette) and Embark (second shade from the right). Embark has been my favorite cool brown for a long time, and, being one of the very few H/E products that I own, I was eager to find a cheaper alternative. As mentioned by OPs, the two left-hand shades are chalkier and quite glittery when compared to the other ones. However, I didn't find that the left shades weren't pigmented, as others have mentioned. Mine were definitely pigmented, just lighter shades, so of course it'll take more to get them to show up with the same intensity as the other two. However, it's definitely a great buy overall. As with all E.L.F. palettes, the shadows are hit-and-miss, but for a buck, the lovely, buttery shades here are an absolute steal. Will probably repurchase to have the lovely backups.

Colors are gorgeous, pigmentation is insane, this is well worth the $1. Lately I've been in the mood to do neutral eyes and this is my go to palette, it's so tiny and compact I can throw it in my back if I'm going anywhere after work and it literally takes up no room at all and weighs nothing. It has all the shades you need to create an eye look except for the shimmery bone color I prefer to use a matte color for my brow bone.

Gorgeous pigmentation in these 4 shadows for a dollar! And yes, I have heard one of the shadows is a perfect dupe for woodwinked. Anyway, this is such a gorgeous quad for a light to medium brown smokey eye. The shadows lasted all day too. amaziiing~

One dollar ~ Unheard of!

Four gorgeous shades.... A beautiful cream shade for your highlight, a pretty peach for the lid, a stunning bronze shade for your crease and last is a deep brown that you can use to line with or to deepen up the outer v. All shades are highly pigmented....ummm, wait a second, now that I think about it the peach shade and the cream shade are not quite as pigmented as the other two. They all have a nice quiet shimmer to them.... great lasting powder with foundation underneath..... I never experience any fading and the colors stay true all day.

~ Inexpensive + high quality!

Wet 'n' Wild Color Icon trio E.L.F. Butternut Quad
** A perfect dupe for MAC Woodwinked **
Bought at: Target
Colors: There are 4 colors all with a shimmer: a light vanilla, apricot shade, deep pewter/mauve color and am gorgeous bronze shade. The bronze like shade is a perfect dupe for MAC Woodwinked. And the darker brown is a close second to MAC Embark. The peach shade (although not very pigmented) a close runner up to MAC Jest and the beige shade is a less-white version of MAC Nylon.

I would buy this quad (for a dollar!) to get the Woodwinked dupe alone. It is a fantastic color: bronzey without being brassy. Perfecto.

Pigmentation: I have found with E.L.F. products where they offer more than one shade (in a duo/quad/trio) you can get one color barely pigmented and the rest with a good color pay off. The two lighter shades are not very pigmented. The product is a bit powdery with some fall out, so make sure and tap off excess.
Packaging: Small and compact. The plastic does feel a bit flimsy though. Small applicator included.
Finish: Easy to blend.
Performance: I used UDPP and the colors seemed to last all day. Very pleased.
My rating scale is: EXCELLENT, GOOD, FAIR AND POOR
My rating is GOOD for this product. The reason I did not rate it EXCELLENT is because 2 out of the 4 colors had poor color pay off. But I would buy it again just to get the Woodwink dupe.

Now I have to admit I got this eyeshadow quad mainly just for the two right hand shadows. I wanted to see if they were dupes for some higher end shadows.

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed that the two lighter shadows barely show up on me. There is no excuse butternut! I am pale as can be, and I've never had shadows not even show up on me. When swatched on my fingers they just barely showed up, and when applied to my eyes, it was like nothing was even there.

However those two shadow mishaps are not enough to bring the rating of this review down too much. Mainly because the two darker shades are wonderfully pigmented and beautiful as can be.

The right hand most shadow is this wonderful golden brown color that is so smooth and silky. The other dark brown is the perfect shade for filling in my brows as long as I use it sparingly, ha to that MAC, I'll spend a dollar rather than get your expensive eyeshadow refills. Those two shadows make the $1 price tag of this quad beyond worth it. I would absolutely love to see ELF make a quad that had the smooth creamy texture of the two darker shades, through every single shadow on the palate, but for $1 I'm not complaining.

OMG!!Great shadows for a buck! The very first time I tried Butternut, I was a little disappointed because the colors were so light. BUT, I was using the dinky little applicator that came with it. I was so excited to use it on the way home while my bf was driving. Once I got home and I started using a nice eye shadow brush and WOW, that made such a difference. I have yet to find it anywhere else for just a buck. And I definitely recommend using a nice brush with the shadow for better pigment application. The two lighter shades don't have that much pigment but are fine for under your brows for daytime. But, I LOVE THE TWO DARKER SHADES SO PRETTY!! The packaging is ugly but I like the fact that it is a small package that I can fit in my makeup bag and is not a big bulky one since I want this on me-I like it that much. Very nice daytime look

Of the two eyeshadow palettes I own (UB Naked Palette and E.L.F. Butternut), I find myself reaching for this more. I don't know what it is but the colors work with my skintone and the consistency is "buttery," perfect for my shoddy blending skills (which I am way too lazy to work on). I don't care for the large chunks of glitter in the two lighter shades, so I took a lippie off for that, but otherwise, BUY THIS. It's the perfect everyday neutral eyeshadow quad.
