I bought this on lunch break one day because it was really rainy and I needed to do something about my hair. It bumped up the waves and my hair did look okay for the day. But it left my hair so greasy. If you pay attention to the fluid you can see what looks like little oil gobules floating around like oil separating from water. I tried to use this several times after and it got worse. Did nothing for my waves just weighed my hair down and left it looking disgusting. This smells awful- slightly chemical slightly musky. I hate throwing products away so I use this at night as sortof a deep conditioner- it gets my hair feeling quite smooth the next morning.

I bought this because I have always liked the naturally wavy hair and my hair used to be REALLY straight. Well I bought this and tried it out plenty of times but its never really given me waves. Now that my hair has changed (I'm not really sure why but it is now wavy) I don't use it very often but I really like the smell of it for some reason. But yea, I guess it just wasn't what I expected = /

Ahhh! I was just thinking about this. Ok. My hair is naturally wavy. I used this --spritzed it on DAMP hair and let air dry-- and my hair would be soft, shiny and the waves perfectly formed and not-frizzy. It was so wonderful. My hair turns frizzy now that I ran out of this a few years ago and it was DISCONTINUED!!! ONLY HAIR PRODUCT I EVER USED!!! Loved it so much.
Luckily, I just found it online and can order more! :D

I can't believe I have never reviewed this product!! Maybe until recently when I couldn't find it anymore, and started trying other wave enhancing sprays, I realized how much I love THIS product! None can compare to what this does for my hair. Most other wave sprays/anti-frizz products leave your hair stiff, STICKY, unmanageable, knotted, weighed down, limp, and even frizzy. But Starlit Waves never failed to completely enhance my waves, completely reduce all signs of frizzies and leave my hair feeling soft and bouncy. I could still run my fingers through my hair and my hair would never get knotted. I do admit it was slightly greasy, but I never applied this to my roots so it really never bothered me at all-it gave the rest of my hair and curls a shiney, beautiful glossy look. I also did need give my hair a few touch up sprays throughout the day because it did seem to wear off, or even just a few sprays of water would do the trick, and my hair still never got stiff or sticky and still flowed beautiful and soft. I love everything about this spray, and although I can't speak for everyone, this is my HG of wave enhancing sprays!! But of course, I think yet another one of my fav products was discontinued =(

I have mixed feelings about this product. It works great - I love it - gives amazing results, smells nice. I can hardly find it anywhere anymore though - the last few years its virtually disappeared. Also I am thinking of getting BKT (Brazil Keratin Straightening treatment) and if you have this you can't use shampoo or products with sodium chloride (salt) or it will strip the keratin from your hair. Unfortunately this product, as well as a lot of products and shampoos that give body and nice results, include this ingredient. Just something to be aware of.

I bought this product last fall to make my straight hair a little bit more less straight. I didn't expect to have curls or anything but to have some volume in my hair. I followed the directions on the package and unfortunately, it didn't work for me. My hair was as straight as without product and very greasy. My bangs just looked dirty from this product and I had to wash my hair again. Every now and then, I see this bottle in my cabinet and I try it again but with the same - bad - result.

I absolutely loved this product. I bought it about a year ago and never used it, so half the bottle was left unused until about two months ago when I decided to stop straightening my hair. This brought out my natural texture without frizz and my waves were perfect. I quickly finished the bottle, and was deeply disappointed that the product appears to have been discontinued. I'm still trying to find it elsewhere! GREAT product.
EDIT>>>> 9/5/09>>>>> Okay so I ordered this stuff on Frolica.com since it was discontinued. My hair has grown out ALOT since then and I've discovered that its more effective if you have a lot more layers in your hair.

I've been using this spray for the past 2 years and I love it. I have long straight hair which has no wave, just a lot of volume. This stuff smells great and gives my hair some messy waves. I don't think it would work so well if you have curly hair and are looking for something to help you keep your curls looking perfect. This is more for people who want loose waves, nothing too polished. Some people say that this is too oily for them, and it made their hair greasy, but I haven't had any problems with it. When I want wavey hair, I shower, add a little gel and anti-frizz cream, then spray my hair with Starlit Waves and scrunch. Sometimes I use a diffuser, but generally I just let it air dry while I'm getting ready. I love using this stuff because normally I just straighten my hair, but I hate the damage caused by the heat, so with the spray I still get nice hair, without the damage.

I have naturally wavy hair and have been looking for a produdct that doesn't make my hair greasy or flat. I like this spray is great because it does that and defines my waves without making my hair crunchy. Perfect for the summer with it's humid and I can't blow dry.

I thought I was going to like this, but the only thing this gave me was a little bit of shine. The product weighed my hair down and made my naturally curly hair sticky and frizzy instead of soft spirals like I've gotten with other products. I definately would not buy this again.

Yep this didn't work for me either. It does smell nice though and seemed to soften my hair and give it a bit of shine. The serum in the brilliant brunette line is much better though.

This product didn't do anything for my wavy hair. It didn't control frizz, define waves, or do anything really. I gave it a two because when applied to dry, straight hair, it added a bit of shine. Other than that, it did nothing.

Pretty good! I've tried about half a dozen wave enhancer products and so far... I keep coming back to this! If I spray wet, scrunch and let air dry it give some waves, if I spray wet and then plop, this is great for loose wavy hold... If I spray it on dry hair and take a curling iron to it, it gives the wave some more hold. Great all around.

I decided to buy this and give it a try after reading mixed reviews. I have long, pin straight hair and thought I could use some waves. I sprayed very little of the product on dry hair and pinned them up in two buns and waited for about an hour. After I took them out I had big beautiful waves, but they only lasted for half an hour or so even with hair spray and gel. It also weighs down your hair with all the oils, so be very cautious about using too much. Overall, the product was ok. It wasn't for me, but I could see it working for somebody with some natural waves.

I want to like this product a little better.. it does an okay job now, maybe I'm just doing something wrong? I have medium hair which is thick and a little wavy, this works ok when I "scrunch" my hair into waves, but they still don't last, I'm not sure if this product is weighinh them down or if it's something else.. I will continue to try and use this though!

This is my HG! After years of fighting my wave hair and spending way too much time straightening and money on straightening products, I gave up and decided to live with my natural hair texture. I have pretty thick hair that is wavy, but when I brush it, it's not defined, it's just puffy. This defines my hair and really enhances the waves. This seems like it should be for someone like me who already has waves but needs definition. I did what a previous poster did and poured out about half of the oily part of the spray that settles on the top so there would be less of it because my hair tends to get oily. Overall, I LOVE this and will repurchase forever.

Last summer I loved this.. it was definitely my HG. But I don't know what happened, maybe my hair changed texture or something, but it does not have the same effect it had a year ago. Can't complain about the ammount I got, I used it every day last summer, and frequently throughout the school year, and I still have about 20% left in my bottle. I'm sure I'll use up the rest of the bottle, but buy more? I think not.

John Frieda touts this stuff as the replacement for the Sheer Blonde Ocean Waves spray, but I just compared the ingredients and the brunette version contains A LOT more polymers/shine enhancers (not good ones, either!) and dimethicone which are going to SERIOUSLY weigh the hair down and make it prone to be oily-looking, so I'm not certain I'd recommend it to those that were in love with Ocean Waves because it's not going to give the same effect.
I'm not giving this stuff a failing grade, but it didn't knock my socks off either. It's just...blah. I *am* wondering why nobody has tried/reviewed the Beyond the Zone "Super Sexy Wave Spray" from Sallys to see if it's a dupe of the JF Ocean Waves....
Personally, I've just fallen in love with Nexxus Phyto Organics Sea Swell Ocean Air Texture Mist ($12USD at salons) which provides the same beachin' (sic) waves, but doesn't contain any of the ingredients to weigh hair down or dry it out so JF can keep his Starlit Waves on the shelf as far as I'm concerned! In the meantime, I'm working on a DIY recipe for the original Ocean Waves which I'll post as soon as I've finalized it so keep an eye on my notepad. :)

I have long brunette hair that dries in thick, loose curls. If I use the right product(s), the curls maintain their shape and bounciness all day. I don't think this is the product for me, because when I use it, I see a lot of fuzz/frizz. I think this may be better for girlies with straight or slightly wavy hair who want to add more wave; I do not think it is so hot for naturally curly hair.
