I didn't like this product. It's very messy to apply because of the packaging. My hair felt oily and dirty after using it. The smell is also too sweet.

I wanted to use this product a few times before I reviewed it. I've used it about five times now, and I love it a little more each time. I chose the darker option, thinking it would be closest to my hair colour (red), but I worried that it might end up looking ashy at my roots. Luckily, I had no such problem. Once upon a time, I used to wash my hair EVERY DAY. I had no idea I was damaging it by doing so. I have very fine hair, so even the smallest amount of oil from sweat/product/whatever would make my hair look greasy and gross. Washing it was the only way I knew how to get rid of the oil buildup. Finally I asked my hair stylist why my hair seemed to be so split-end prone, and she said a combination of crappy quality shampoo and washing my hair too much was the problem. So I started buying John Freida (formula for red hair) and this dry shampoo to keep my hair clean between washes. This stuff is AMAZING. I haven't had to travel with it yet, so I can't speak for anyone else who may have had a mess on their hands, but to apply it I just dump a good sized amount (maybe a tablespoon or a bit less) into my palm and use a wide make-up brush to apply it to my roots and ends. It smells so nice (like candy!) and makes my hair look freshly washed and shiny. Love love love it. Would definitely recommend.

I have a lot of dry shampoos and volumizing powders, which I primarily use to give my super-straight, fine hair body. This is by far my favorite hair powder, though it doesn't add as much volume as many others. It smells WONDERFUL, is very fine, and has micro gold glitter that I can really only see in the air when I shake my hair out after application. I have a lot of gold in my light brown/dark blond hair and this really makes it shine, shine, shine. I had this in my hair a few days ago when my sister-in-law came to visit and commented (for the first time in over 20 years) that she loved my hair color. it never makes my scalp feel gooey or chalky as similar products sometimes do. I wish it were a little more travel-friendly, but that is my only complaint. I'm going to order the version for dark hues next and will update my review with the results! Update 3/2/13: I now have the dark hue version and I love it. It's actually not very dark, so it works really well for my light ash brown hair. No sparkles in this one, either. These are currently my favorite hair powders.

AMAZING! Hands down, my favourite beauty product. I couldn't find a picture of the lighter hues powder, but I use this one and it's saved my life more times than I can tell you. I have very thick, fine hair that takes ages to dry and since I colour it, I try to avoid washing it a lot as it gets dry. I can easily get three days wear between shampoos and my hair still looks great. If I sleep in late, I just ponytail it in the shower and style as usual. Hair is done in 5:) I do agree that the product does not travel well. I get around that by putting it in a ziploc bag and shaking the stuff from the bag on my hair or brush.

This is my HG hair powder. I've repurchased this three times already. I love that it comes in a dark hue. The packaging is messy and I usually put it in a ziplock bag if I'm bringing it along on a trip, but otherwise I love it. I found that the powder would cling to my scalp, feeling uncomfortable and also noticeable, so I prefer to shake out some powder into my hands and then toss it into my hair - focussing on my bangs first and then adding some into the roots. This helps to soak up the oil and create more volume in my hair. I like the scent and my boyfriend always comments on how good my hair smells when I use it.

I love the smell and it works pretty well for absorbing oil because it's powder. My only real complaint is that I can't really travel with it since the packaging isn't sealed very well and I'm sure product would go everywhere if not packed very well. For the price, I'd expect the packaging not to be so cheap.

In any case, if you're just going to use it at home, it's definitely the best one I've tried so far.

I found the Dark Hue Powder for $ 9.99 at my local Winners. I couldn't believe the steal! The regular price is $ 18.00 (CAD) on Cake Beauty's website. I was so excited to try it out, thinking I had found the perfect, wonderful smelling, dry shampoo. Well, I was wrong. It smelled nice but worked horrible. The hair portion of the Satin Sugar Hair and Body Refreshing Powder failed big time.
It's not the best but it does an okay job at absorbing the oil. But the brown powder clung to my scalp and it was very noticeable. My boyfriend even noticed it and asked if I had a rash. I can't say if the same thing happens with the lighter hue but it certainly did with the dark.
I had to return the product. Even at $9.99, it's a waste of money. I'll be sticking with baby powder!

This is a great product. I happen to really like using hair powders, and find this one to be extremely fine and very easy to use. You don't need very much since the powder is so finely milled, and the product also has quite a bit of cornstarch in it, which makes it finer than some of the other hair powders out there. This stuff is faintly vanilla-cake scented, but not enough to be very noticeable. It's also slightly tinted, but not enough to make any kind of a difference. I've used this by both rubbing some on palms and then rubbing into my roots, and also applying directly to roots and brushing out any excess. Both ways work well, but this does need to be brushed out well if applying directly to roots.

I really like this hair powder. I feel like I've tried them all and this is definitely one of the best ones. To avoid the powder from showing up in my hair, I just shake some into my hands and rub the powder into my roots/oily parts. I don't even have to brush it out doing it this way. It has a really nice sugary smell that's not overly sweet, it's very understated. I do find this a tad on the expensive side so I'm unsure if I'll purchase it. I may try to swap for it again though!

Great product for the times when I am in a rush and don't have the time to wash my hair! I just sprinkle a little on my brush and brush through and voila! The oilies are gone. I take one lippie off though because I still have to brush through really well or else the powder will show on my black hair. Nice smell, very useful. Will be repurchasing.

This is an HG product for me and works much better in my experience than spray dry shampoos. It is lightly sweet-scented powder (comes in dark and light) that works perfectly for soaking up second-day oilies at the roots and around the hairline. I also finds it gives me extra volume on the second day which is a bonus. Another positive is that it lasts a long time. I use this stuff about 3 times a week and it will last me at least six months. Love.

Smells wonderful.

I prefer it as a body refresher because it doesn't do a great job of soaking up the oil in your hair. Its ok, not stellar.

Does not work as well as Oscar B's dry shampoo and the price is about the same.

The powder dumps out of the dispenser and the top of the container gathers powder under the lip. I ended up getting more powder on the floor and around the top of the container than in my hair. Super messy. Maybe if they packaged it differently I would be more apt to use it again, but as it stands, it is way too messy to deal with.

I am always looking for a great dry shampoo. My hair is fine, thin, long and black. If I don't wash it every day, then my roots get oily and makes my hair look really limp and blah. I found this product on sephora.com and decided to give it a try after reading the positive reviews. I purchased it in the brown color. I think the scent was pleasant (smells like cocoa) and has a silky light texture. However, it didn't work that well for me. I put the product in my palms and rubbed them together before applying to my scalp and roots. It did get rid of the oiliness at the roots, but it left my scalp a strange brownish color and my hair was an odd color afterwards too. It also didn't give my hair any texture or volume which the Oscar Blandi dry shampoo does for me. I also tried using this Cake product on my skin (since it says you can) but it just wasn't that great. Left my skin smooth, but I didn't care for that cocoa scent on my skin. I plan to return this to Sephora and go back to the Oscar Blandi dry shampoo powder. And I'll continue my hunt for my HG of dry shampoo!

This powder turned my scalp dark brown. It's so so ugly. I tried sprinkling in my hand first and rubbed in my hair, and it still stained my scalp. The powder touches your scalp for just a little bit and you can see the color. And the scent is awful. Other people can definitely detect the cake fragrance in this. I would prefer a milder scent or no fragrance at all. I don't want my hair to smell like a cake. The packaging is also another failure. It's made of paper and the holes at the top are huge. I wasted so much product at the first use. Tons and tons of powder fell out and stained my carpet.

This product is what I've been looking for! I have medium-thick hair (and alot of it) so I don't wash my hair everyday. I actually try to go 2-3days without washing, especially when my hair has dry ends in the winter. The only problem is then my scalp gets greasy! This can save me a day of hair washing, no problem! I also got my mom using it as her hair is quite course and colour treated. When using make sure you sprinkle the product on your HAND first, DON'T try to dump the product on your hair right from the container or you will get 'powder stains' on your head! You don't need much product for it to work. I agree with other comments on here, it smells so GOOD!

I purchased this product on sale - the great price was the only reason I was willing to spend money on what is basically coloured/scented baby powder.
I had been using baby powder in my hair when I needed to freshen it a bit. It has been nice using Satin Sugar because the colour is a bit darker than white baby powder and obviously smells better!
The packaging is okay - it actually seems a bit cheap with the paper on the outside and only one opening for the powder (wish there was a bit more control of how much comes out).
I said I would buy this product again - but I would only buy it again if it was on sale. Otherwise, I'll save the $ and go back to baby powder.

I am not completely blown away by the idea of hair-powder - I mean, it's not like I haven't thought of it before. When I was in high school, I used to put face-powder in my hair on greasy days (my FAIR powder, I might add - the idea to match color didn't occur to me :D). This is not a miracle product - it doesn't do magic nor does it cook your dinner, but it does what it's supposed to do. I've come to rely on this stuff a couple of times a week(!) and it really DOES get rid of the grease for one whole day, so all and all I have no reason to give it anything else than five lippies.
And, I might add that I have red hair and that the Satin Sugar for Darkes Hues is the one I use. It blends in very well.
(Although, all this talk about the fabolous cookie scent - I don't smell it! When I smelled it for the first time, I was expecting something out of this world. I sniffed deeply, and exclaimed: "Aaahh, talcum!")

I use the blonde version. I find sprinkling it on my brush and then running it through my hair is the best way to apply it. I like the scent but it could be toned down a bit imo. I wish it came in a spray but a lot of spray versions I've tried clog up before you finish the can/bottle (I'm talking to you BedHead/Tigi!)
This is great post-workout too for those times you don't want to wash your hair.

I have baby fine hair that NEEDS to be washed every day... at least until I found this. It sops up all the excess grease in your hair, and come on... it smells like cookies! So not only do you get to skip washing your hair, but it smells great. Bonus points because it comes in two colours, great for someone like me who tends to bounce between dark brown and bottle blonde hair.
