This was hiding way behind my makeup bin when I discovered it last week! WHAT A DISCOVERY! This color is AWESOME! I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this eyeliner. It actually goes on rather smoothly and the shade is this navy blue/purple which is AMAZING on my dark brown eyes! (I'm African American, by the way). I'm so glad it came back into view because I know I'm gonna use this shade A LOT!

This is my go to purple e/l. I love how easily it glides on without tugging at the eye. It has great lasting power and looks great matched with gold colored e/s.

Beautiful true purple eyeliner. makes a nice smooth line, stays on all day, it is bright but not red or pinkish so you dont look sickly. This is a great eyeliner, and I'm so glad i was able to find it, as it was a LE. does not smudge or run or flake.

This is OK, but nothing special. For the price, you could go out and find a similar color for a lot less $$$.

I bought this without realizing it was LE, when I was not in a big 'MAC' phase.

I get compliments when I wear it, it is a nice purple--I have trouble finding purples that don't make me look tired, so the brightness of this shade helps.

I would buy it again if possible, although I doubt I would use mine up anyway.

If you're looking for a soft/smudgy violet liner, which I assume is why you're reading the reviews for this item, please do yourself a favor and don't go chasing all over creation for Violet Underground. Simply buy Laura Mercier's Purple Sapphire Kohl liner. It is much softer and easier to use than Violet Underground, which I had to drag back and forth over my eyelid for any color to show up. Are the two liners exactly the same in shade? No--I swatched both on my hand--but I prefer Purple Sapphire. VU was more purple (i.e, red toned) than PS, which had more blue undertones--in other words, a more true violet shade. Violet Underground is inferior in every way to Purple Sapphire, unless you worship at the altar of MAC LE items (which I admit I am sometimes guilty of). For reference, I'm a brown eyed PPP, and both of these liners flatter my eyes. I just prefer the LM liner, in case you couldn't tell.

Not very impressed with this one. I have purple eyeliners from different brands and they seem to go on and stay on much better. The color is kind of blah too.

GREAT color, application is a breeze, and makes brown eyes just POP! BUT...the lasting power pretty much sucks..but because i love this color, I think it's worth it...just keep it in my purse for touchups.. =) Too bad its a limited edition color!
p.s. i wear it w/ satellite dreams right now, but im sure it wears well w/ neutrals as well.

This pencil is okay if you are looking for a vivid purple eyeliner... but it was brighter on my eyes than I thought it would be. I felt a little self-conscious wearing this in daylight. To me, this is true violet, almost bordering on sapphire blue. Very pretty, unique color. EDIT 3/11/07: I was reading the reviews on this pencil, and I noticed that one poster remarked that Violet Underground is identical to Laura Mercier's eye kohl pencil in Purple Sapphire. Well, let me clarify that: It is NOT. Not even close.Have both pencils, swiped one right next to the other. Violet Underground looks violet- almost a true purple. LM's Purple Sapphire doesn't even look a bit purple- or violet! It looks sapphire blue! This was obvious even without a bright light, that's how clear the difference is. So, if you like Violet Underground, which was LE... LM's Purple Sapphire might satisfy your craving for a bright-colored eyeliner; but it won't be an exact duplicate of Violet Underground. Violet U. is truly a pretty unique color! No other plum, blue, or purplish pencil I have is a close comparison to this one.

I stopped buying kohls after switching to powerpoints, but there is no powerpoint equivalent to Violet Underground so I bought it. I don't think it's that bright but the color is beautiful nonetheless. I use it over UD Primer Potion and it doesn't smudge or smear during the day.

Lots of love to violet underground- i got this after trying it and seeing how beautiful it was, it may be a bit difficult to apply at first but try to warm it up and for more emphasis smudging a purple eyeshadow- the MA did this with parafait amour and it looked stunning! As usual all good things from MAC are le...

edit:: I really enjoy the color, but find that it is rather waxy, I'm going to stick with my fluidline :)

I would describe this as a bright 'blue toned violet'. Very pretty. Lasting power not so good, like other kohls. Overall I see myself using this one quite a bit for a little 'pop' to my neutral e/s, wouldn't repurchase though.

Age: 19-24   Skin: Oily   Hair: Brunette   Eyes: Green

I don't typically wear color eyeliner. But I've been wanting to try a violet or purple liner for a while in hopes to intensify my green eyes. I wasn't intending to buy Violet Underground during my Culturebloom haul, however, the MA was a hot boy. I don't really care if he does or doesn't for play for the same team, but he was great looking and really hands-on. So while I was looking more closely at Iris Print eyeshadow and this eye kohl, he suggested (while appling the product) that I use Violet Underground eye kohl under Iris Print and blend it to get a really pretty and intense look. The kohl itself is creamy and glides easily across my lid. It can and will smudge if you have super oily lids, so make sure you wear a primer, like UD's PP. The color is a dark violet. It can either be worn to look bright, or toned down/darkened over a thin line of black eyeliner. All in all this a very pretty violet eyeliner that stays true to color throughout the day..thanks hottie MA! [LLL/neutral/green eyes/medium brown hair]

By the time I left Nordies about 15 min. after purchasing this, I could hardly detect this on my eyes--and it wasn't even like I was doing any strenous clothes changing or anything. I turned right back around and returned it and went straight to the LM counter and purchased Purple Sapphire which has much better staying power (sounds like another MUAer below had the same idea! I was glad to see that she said that the colors were identical).

Violet Underground is the new eyeliner kohl pencil from the Culturebloom collection released February 2006. Its a limited edition. Violet Underground is not what i was expecting. I was expecting a reallly vibrant purple, something different. It was kinda just purple. With a blue undertone. Lighter than Prunella and darker than iris eyes. Nothin special IMO. Glides on smoothly and great for smudging, but it also tends to smear under my oily lids. I have to use a sealant with the eye kohls or they dont wear all day for me. Retails for $13.50.

This is a fun eyeliner that makes my brown eyes stand out. It shows up better than some other purple eyeliners that I've tried. The staying power is not the best.
