Got a 5ml free sample of this. I have been using it on and off, sometimes I switch to other brands. I guess it's okay, quite average, I am not crazy about it but I don't dislike it either.
Don't think I would actually pay and buy one by myself though.

If you have oily skin avoid it.
Ok no fragance, and all that but it does give a shiny look to your face and it doesn't say the PPD. I'll just have to keep on trying to find the right product for oily skin. Open to suggestions.

Its taken me a while to appreciate this sunscreen. For so long ive been focused on finding a single hg sunscreen that is perfect for all conditions - this just isnt going to happen. I love LRP dermo peds spray for occasions where i want to look matte and 'clean', however I cant wear this everyday as its slightly irritating, and when I go swimming with it on my faces is irritated further. Which bring me back to this; this is perfect for me to use for swimming, walking around my small town, and quick dashes out for whatever. Overall for short time periods of use.
Its finish doesnt match up to LRP dermo peds spray, but then for casual wear I dont care - its not too bad on its own, a little shiny, no white cast on me and slightly tacky more than anything. A light dusting of silica powder over this actually leaves me looking clean and shine free (it just wont hold up all day, like dp spray does).
I love that this is med/high PPD and doesnt have avobenzone or octocrylene which are ime the most irritating chemical ss filters. Consequently my skin takes to this ss much better than most ive tried. I get little to no reaction from wearing it... its even quite kind to my eyes, although i cant apply it right up there.
What im not fussed on is the emmoliancy of this. I've actually had my tube of this for some time now (i believe i was among the 1st to try it here) and for a while I just wasnt comfortable with the heaviness of this. Its not as heavy as LRP creme fondante, but its not far off. I was convinced it would break me out, but so far ive not noticed any increase in congestion. This may be because I wear it over short time periods, and use PC bha's liquid at night. I cannot wear this for long time periods though or it will start to 'melt' even with silica powder on top and look quite messy... but I have my LRP dermo peds spray for these occasions
This may have been reformulated lately aswell, im looking forward to trying this and some of the newer avene creams/emulsions which are less emmoliant now (but none drying).

This is on my list of top 3 European sunscreens. It is fragrance-free and does not cause any problems for me. No breakouts, no stinging, nothing. It has a very elegant finish that to me feels just like a regular moisturizer. This stuff is great because it's really not *shiny* like so many other sunscreens I've tried. I find everything about it to be great. It is also one of very few fragrance-free options specifically from Avene. It's a big thumbs up from me! I order online from Tubotica.

I am really impressed with this sunscreen. All summer I was using Bioderma's Photoderm MAX sunscreens but I wanted to try this because it doesn't contain Avobenzone which can degrade under most make-up. Sometimes I need make-up so I wanted a sunscreen that I can wear at such times. I also wanted one that contained both Tinosorbs which IMO are the best protection against UVA rays. I love that this sunscreen has no fragrance or alcohol too. It is not very shiny and doesn't have as much white cast as other Tinosorb sunscreens such as Ducray Photoscreen Cream SPF 50+ or the Biodermas. I have eczema on my hands and I can wear this on them without irritation. I can also wear this on my eyelids and close to my lash lines with no problems (unlike most sunscreens). The only problem is that Avene don't give the PPD of this although MUA experts estimate it is aound 12 or 13 AFAIK. I will use this all winter. My normal/dry and very sensitive skin seems to love it. Highly recommended.
Update 12/07: I don't like the new formulation of this as much as the old one. It's now runnier so harder to apply around eyes, I have to be quicker or it can sometimes migrate to the eyes. However, I still like this a lot more than all the fragranced Avene sunscreens so I'll keep using.

DESCRIPTION OF ME ~Very warm, yellowy complexion with a tendency to get redness on my cheeks and around my nose, mid 30s. MAC C2/NC25 Large clog prone pores, oily skin which is also sensitive, blackheads, occasional simple acne.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION ~SPF 40 I think PPD 15 fragrance free sunscreen with Tinsorbs & physical blockers. Purchased at www.tubotica.com great service
PACKAGING ~Large tube.
CONSISTENCY/TEXTURE ~Very smooth & slippery lotion.
APPLICATION ~Lots of slip, doesn’t streak or look milky on my face like some sunscreens do. Does not sting or cause itchiness in any way while applying or after wearing all day, which is incredibly rare for me, must be because there is no Parsol or other chemicals.
FINISH ~It’s a bit shiny on it’s own and feels really sticky at first but dries down to a satin, less sticky finish. It feels heavy on the skin though.
COVERAGE ~Slightly whitening but nothing noticeable.
STAYING POWER ~It’s substantial on the skin and lasts well.
SCENT ~No added scent.
OVERALL ~Sounds great, I know, but I think it’s clogging my pores. Even though I’m using Tazorac cream and a bha my face seems bumpier since I started using this sunscreen daily. My foundation looks heavier/thicker over top of it and half way through the day my face is pretty greasy so I blot. I can totally handle the heaviness and blotting, worth it for good protection but what I can’t take are the clogged pores. I will use it on my body though, my hands and arms love it, no itching or burning, yay! I would repurchase to use on my son and my body again. http://www.makeupalley.com/user/notepad/sunscreens/ The best sunscreen info around!

I don't really understand the negative reviews for this. I am a Baumann DSNW (although I suspect she might call me a DSPW because of my easy freckling) and pretty much EVERY sunscreen makes me break out. La Roche Posay sunscreens particularly- I can wear any of them ONCE and have hideous acne the next day. It finally occurred to me that it might be the avobenzone causing the problem. Avene and Ducray are the only decent PPD sunscreens w/o avo, so I started with this one.
NO breakouts! Not a one! I have not a single blemish on my skin right now! This is amazing for me. I am so sensitive that sometimes I think WATER could make me break out. So the fact that this s/s leaves me break-out free is a HUGE deal.
It gets a 4 instead of a 5 because it is somewhat "substantial" on the skin. It really does need to soak in for at least 20 minutes before you try to put foundation on. However, my skin is dry to begin with, so with a little powder, I'm not greasy. This is fragrance free so there's no bad smell. It's quite nice, and if I could give it 4.5 stars, I would.
I would highly recommend this to other dry sensitive types.

I bought this along with the avene spf 50+ lait, the LRP dermo pediatrics spf 50+ lait and the LRP fluide extreme spf 50+. Of the four, I think this one is the best value. The lrp fluide extreme is less shiny and has a higher ppd, but I just can't afford to keep buying it. I like the fact that this doesn't have fragrance. I have dry skin and I can usually wear this with a light dusting of power on top and not be too shiny. Also, this doesn't sting my face, maybe because it has no avobenzone, which also means no worries about photostablity.

I really love this sunscreen. I have been using it for about three months and it has never stung my eyes like a lot of other sunscreens. Also, I haven't had any allergic reactions from it like I did with the last sunscreen. When I put my foundation on over it, it never balls up. This also provides strong protection. I definetly will be repurchasing this!

PROS: doesn't break me out, pretty matte, I don't find it sticky at all, evens out my complexion, easy to get hold of in the UK (from Boots); CONS: only one really and that is that it does not seem to be the best base for make-up - my foundation (Fresh liquid) does not apply completely smoothly over it, but maybe if I found a better foundation this would improve, and in any case, I think I can live with it.

I really wanted to like this... It is unscented, applies easily and best of all, provided wonderful protection where I did not get any freckles while wearing this. In fact, I could've overlooked the stickiness. Unfortunately, it also broke me out on places I didn't know I can break out (ex: neck)! It gave me big painful cysts. I won't be purchasing it again.

Love the non stringing and non fragrance of this. It does leave a bit of shine, but that is easily controlled by patting some oil control product gently over top. Bit of a white cast too, but not excessive...I'd say about what you can expect from anything with Tinosorb in it. Easily covered with powder or tinted mattifier for me (I'm a LLL), or deflected with a light dusting of Meteorites. Yes when I touch my face it feels sticky, but I try not to touch my face unless I am cleasning or applying skincare, so its a nonissue. It feels a bit heavy on me, IMO this is more of a cream than a lait. After applying mattifying gel, this dries down quickly, much more so than LRP. I don't know how this would fare in hotter, humid summer weather though. Update 2/18/06 This is the culprit in my recent bouts of clogged pores and acne. I can't use it on my 2 yo either, it gives him acne-like bumps!!

I am allergic to most chemical sunscreens and for a long time I would just use physical sunscreens such as Clarins UV Plus SPF 40 or Avene SPF 50 (white tube) This is the only chemical sunscreen that my skin will tolerate. It's very sunny year round where I live and I find that this is the only sunscreen that keeps me from getting freckles. It's expensive, a bit difficult to find, a bit sticky but it is my HG for now. I have dry, sensitive skin and usually do not get pimples but I did find it to be pore clogging if I did not exfoliate regularly. UPDATE: I still use this sunscreen because of its superior protection but it is so pore clogging for me. Another MUA-er suggested puttin June Jacob's sunscreen on top to take away some of the greasiness. I do this and it helps a lot but I still find myself with more clogged pores than usual. So I had to downgrade this from 4 to 3.

Thanks to BTG for bringing this to our attention. I've pretty much lowered my requirements for highly-protective, stable sunscreens. It's okay for it to be sticky, shiny, greasy, heavy, drying, whitening... as long as it doesn't burn my eyes and doesn't ball up.
This sunscreen, thankfully, doesn't burn my eyes. It may be sticky but it's not too shiny, greasy, heavy nor whitening (I have tan skin). It's also very moisturizing, doesn't ball up and has no fragrance. What more could I ask for? :)
