I have acne- prone and sensitive skin and this product really works for me.
I use it at night after cleansing. It leaves the skin very shiny and I would not try to use it under makeup. I let it set before I put my regular night creme on.
I bought the lotion formula once by misstake and I think the gel one is far better.
Make sure to always use sunscreen if you are using this product.

Pro:
Does not irritate the skin.
Helps reduce breakouts
Reduces acnescars
Reduses winkels and leaves the skin smooth
Hygenic packaging
One packaing lasts a very long time.

Cons:
A bit difficult to get your hands on in my country
Difficult to know how much is still left in the bottle
leaves the skin very shiny.

I have bought this several times because the formula works. It's a gentle exfoliant that doesn't irritate my sensitive skin, and when my skin is oily (usually in summer) I much prefer this clear, fragrance-free, dye-free gel to the BHA lotion. In fact, this was my favorite exfoliant until the brand expanded its line to include more chemical exfoliants. I'm not crazy about the BHA lotion because although there is no fragrance added, it does have a faint cucumber scent that I can ignore, but I don't like it. I am grateful that the brand does not add masking fragrance to its products. Whatever we smell is what the blend naturally smells like. I don't detect any scent at all from the gel which is one of the reasons I like it better.

However, I have to agree with other reviewers who stated that this gel makes your face look very shiny when applied and has a slightly tacky feel on the skin until it dries, so I only use it at night before bedtime. This phase is short-lived. Within twenty minutes of applying it, my face doesn't glisten from the gel and any stickiness is gone. In the morning my skin feels soft and smooth, and moisturized. For the price point, $28 for 3.3 ounces, it's a good exfoliant and prevents blackheads from forming.

The gel has been available for several years, and since then Paula's Choice has expanded the line. Now I prefer the stronger Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foam 4% BHA and I also like the liquid Resist Daily Pore-Refining Treatment With 2% BHA. But I still alternate this gel with the other exfoliants. I always had trouble finding physical exfoliants (scrubs) that didn't irritate my skin and make it look worse, so these BHA products were life-changing. I am glad she has so many BHA products to choose from. If you don't like one, you can probably find another you do like without switching brands.

I appreciate the company's dedication to making cruelty free, no-nonsense skin care products. I've been using this line for over a decade with wonderful results. I know my skin pretty well and know how to select the right products for me. My skin looks clearer and healthier now than it did before I found this line. Although I have changed my skin care routine a bit by switching to the aforementioned alternatives, this 2% BHA gel remains one of the best exfoliants I've found for sensitive oily skin.

I started using the 2% BHA liquid around October and have reviewed it and loved it and have talked to any and every person about it. I have done everything short of building a shrine for this product...and I feel just as strongly about the gel version. In fact, I may actually prefer it.

The BHA gel is clear and has a mildly sticky consistency. It glides very easily on the skin and feels more moisturizing than the liquid. Be aware that it will feel mildly tacky on the skin until it dries. Unlike the liquid version, which dries almost instantaneously, the gel takes a few minutes to dry down completely and is not ideal when you are in a rush. I also find that it is easy to apply too much product. You only truly need a small amount for your entire face. If not, you will end up looking like an oil slick. The same is true for the liquid, though. Remember that this product is a treatment, not intended to be applied as a moisturizer (it is hydrating, sure, but the amount you would use if applied as a moisturizer would be wasteful and an SPF moisturizer/product should rightfully be applied after any BHA product during the daytime anyway).

A main con for this product is that it does leave a slight shine to the skin, which the liquid does not leave. It is counteracted quite easily with a powder but may be a problem if you are going bare-faced and prefer a matte finish. For this reason, I gravitate towards the liquid version during the day and use the gel during the night. The gel version melts into the skin and acts as a moisturizing barrier during the night. I sometimes do end up shiny in the morning if my apartment was particularly warm, but I actually like the feeling. It's like when you go to sleep with a deep moisturizer or essence. The gel is just pleasant to use and I find that it is more effective than the liquid version in terms of decreasing my pore size and reducing blackheads, to the point where I feel the need to use the liquid during the day or only use the gel at night instead of using BHA twice a day.

Whether you should buy a gel, liquid, or lotion BHA is all determined by your skin type and personal preference. A well formulated BHA product has changed my skin for the better. I've tried and reviewed all three of the Paula's Choice ones, but there are an array of brands available and there is a sea of reviews of the internet. Just do your research and, ideally, talk to your dermatologist about it.

Paula's Choice sometimes has sales and usually offers seasonal discounts. They also allow you to combine referral codes and up to two discount codes, which you could normally google. Using a referral code link automatically takes you the Paula’s Choice website and gives you a $10 discount when you buy min $15 (the person below me has a $15 off when you purchase min $30 but may only be valid in Australia? Not too sure but helpful for International shoppers), as well as gives the link owner a discount on their next purchase. My code is https://goo.gl/zOBCb5

UPDATE (2/8/16): Still using this stuff regularly. Probably 3/4 times a week. My skin has never looked better. I'm honestly shocked when I have a breakout, and then I realize I haven't been using this stuff as routinely as I should, so I correct my error and voila! Breakout GONE! Can't recommend this stuff enough. The gel version is really good for my oily skin.

ORIGINAL REVIEW (12/10/15): This product is wonderful. I have the gel version and the liquid version, and I much prefer the gel form. It works well with my oily skin. I have medium brown skin (my foundation color is usually a "golden" variety - golden deep by bare minerals & fresh golden by clinique), and it's great for dark marks on my skin tone. The price originally held me back from purchasing a bottle, but I had a coupon code from a blog so I gave it a go. So glad i tried this stuff! I use it at night and feel like I have brand new skin when I wake up each morning. I've only recently started using it, so I'll update this review after a month or so.

I really DON'T like this gel makes my Skin look right after applying. It Looks shiny and the gel is so sticky. I probably works like her other BHA's but I prefer the liquids and Lotion as an exfoliant. I would use it at night time only.

This really helps with my acne and clogged pores. It also makes my skin brighter and smoother. using it every day can irritate my face, though. I think if you suffer from congestion you should try this.

Ok, I'll admit it. I am a product snob and I do indulge in luxury products and many of them work exceptionally well for me. Normally, I wouldn't have even thought about this line, but my mom who has extremely sensitive skin told me about this line. She bought me the BHA 2% and within a couple of days, this product turned into my holy grail. While this is not the prettiest packaging to display in your bathroom, it is the most active and result driven product I've ever owned. I've been using this product non-stop for 5 years. I do have wonderful skin thanks to this product and have not had a major breakout in years. In fact, while using this, it's common to go a month or more without so much as a pimple. I get compliments and in turn I tell others about this product and now, most of my friends and clients use this. One of my very good friends has serious issues with acne and this has improved her skin to the point that she cried because she hadn't had clear skin her whole life. That may sound a bit corny, but that's how good this product works. I don't hesitate to spend hundreds, and while many of those products are phenomenal, none act so quickly. This is overnight change, so I HIGHLY recommend! Give it a shot!

I have used the PC BHA gel for around 2 years, and cannot stand a day without it. Absolutely amazing! I've tried the liquid too, but still, love the gel version.

It gives me clear healthy looking skin, and I recently apply it on my body as well. And one day I applied some on my armpit (thinking it has exfoliating effect, hence might brighten my dark armpit a bit), and I accidentally discovered this gel could be a deodorant as well, as any other deodorants out in the market irritates me, I so glad to find the BHA gel has this function as well~

So I don't expect miracles from skincare products.
My skin is a combination skin, oily t-zone and very sensitive.
I had some very visible blackheads on my nose, bumps and redness on my forehead ( yeah I react awesome to most SPF's) and some dark spots on my nose.
I first used it twice a day but my skin turned flaky, I never got flakes.
So I contacted costumer service and they recommended to use it every other day.
And that works just fine, the bumps on my forehead are gone and my redness diminished. Oh and that lovely bit of hyper pigmentation on my nose? Well it is still there but it reduced in size.
So I don't expect wonders but this stuff works!

Edit after one month
Still happy with this BHA, the blackheads have diminished and my sebaceous filaments (those tiny dark brown dots) have become smaller.
A little warning with this product, use SPF!!
I'm not kidding I forgot it two times and each time I burned my face :( in the autumn in Holland. Which is pretty unusual for me.
