I got this because I was intrigued about using a mascara primer (this was before discovering Christian Dior's primer) and I was getting a hankering to try something new. I also picked this up because there was a slew of Maybelline products on the cheap at Big Lots and, unfortunately, I can rarely resist marked down make up...no matter what the brand.
I tried this a few times before giving up because it is, in a word, terrible. The primer dries super fast (which isn't a bad thing, but you better be quick in applying your mascara) and really didn't add any length that I could see. The mascara itself is just dry city. I've tried some dry mascaras in the past, but this is the definition of dry mascara. As a result, I end up with weird, spider-like crunchy lashes. Not attractive and not at all the look I'm going for.
I thought that perhaps I had gotten a old batch because it was at Big Lots so (like a fool) I went out and got XXL Bold which I paid FULL price for thankyouverymuch and still got the same dry results. That pretty much made up my mind about all Maybelline mascaras - they're not for me no matter how cheap they may be.

Not the worst but not the best. Definitely holds the curl but smudges like crazy... And it's not waterproof at all after rinsing my eye with water for a few minutes the mascara tends to smudge and the curl disappears. Basically functions as a non waterproof mascara :/
EDIT: But it looks fabulous, just purchased the Etude Dr. Mascara Fixer which makes this smudge-proof.

I hated this mascara. I use a lot of mascara regularly and usually never have problems. Being a huge mascara junkie and wanting to try something new for kicks picked this up. I thought the primer thing was the neatest until I tried it.
First of all, the primer flakes and it gives you those spidery lashes, even in just one coat!! So, after fixing the primer for a good 15 minutes i finally had my lashes how I wanted them and them moved on to the mascara. Bad idea.
I applied it and even though the primer was spare on my lashes and had set for a good 20 minutes, the mascara was mixing with it and making a grey color. not only that it gave me those nasty lashes that look so huge and fake and clumpy and spider like. absolutely the worst!
Save your money, don't buy it.

I just got some of this today, $10NZD online. I actually think its pretty damn good. Easy to apply, I had no probs with the primer, I only put on two coats and it has made my lashes longer and thicker (I do have pretty good long eyelashes to start with though). I would say that you need to complete one eye at a time though, to prevent drying too quickly as it seemed that it might get a little tricky to add the extra coats otherwise.
I like it.

I tried this I guess 5 years ago, when I was in the 8th grade, and I hated it so much! I found the formulation was way too dry. I still remember how the actual mascara part didn't correctly conceal the white color of the primer. This stuff is also really hard to take off, and I would lose a lot of lashes as a result. On the bright side, my lashes did look really long, but I can only give this mascara one lippie because who in their right mind wants white lashes?! Not worth a single penny in my book!

I have used this mascara only once so far, so if something changes and I end up disliking it I will edit, but so far its been great. I bought it at Winners for 5 bucks and I would have paid more for the quality. It gives me great length and pretty good volume, and doesn't clump my lashes too bad.
It's not my HG mascara, but its worth a shot.

Worst waterproof mascara ever!! I bought this for a wedding to last through the heat and potential tears, and I had bad raccoon eyes all night!! I didnt even wear makeup on the bottom lid. The primer was pretty good, but the mascara was awful. I dont even need eye makeup remover to get it off, cuz most of it is on my lower eyelids by the end of the day. Will not buy again. I usually prefer Loreal mascaras.

I will always remember this mascara as being way too difficult to remove. I wouldn't be able to reapply it for days because the old stuff was still stuck to my lashes. The results were nothing spectacular, but the two-step process wasn't worth the extra minute it takes to put it on. Other Maybelline mascaras are at least as good, and only take one step.

This product was just meh for me. Nothing spectacular. Very hard to wash off even with eye make up remover. If you need it for the waterproof quality then for sure this would be great for you, but every day use is a bit much. This mascara did not hold curl for me nor did it volumize in any way shape or form so it goes up for swap. I tried to like it, but it is a no go for me since I need volume not just length.

used this once. it lengthened my lashes, BUT in an ugly spidery looking way. BAD. and its so hard to take off! i usually use petroleum jelly which takes off any of my mascaras pretty well. but it did not work w/ this one. and it looks super cheap too.

Gave up on the primer and just used the mascara side ( half the price gone down the drain). Then it still gave e spidery lashes. That was when i am completely convinced that should just not waste my money and buy a high end mascara and get the full value even if it is twice the price. So after buying faux cils,i just made use of the waterproof character and applied this maybelline one only to my lower lashes, That was when the wonders of this mascara started. no flaking, totally waterproof. So basically, this is a GREAT waterproof mascara but as a mascara, it doesnt do much on its own. Willl probably repurchase only for my lower lashes, which makes the price seem quite hefty even for a drugstore mascara. and mind u i dont even mind HE mascaras' price tags if the quality can justify the cost. But this, i don't really wanna pay more than a pound for it.

I really love the white base part of this and that is the reason I bought it. I've even used it as a base for some of my other mascaras. As for the mascara part, there is nothing really special about it. It definitely makes lashes look thicker and longer (due to the base I think) but it's very difficult to get off, and I lose a lot of my lashes whenever I wear it, so I usually only use it for a special occasion or when I'll be doing a lot of swimming and need waterproof. I find there is a lot of clumping and flaking and since I can't ever seem to get it all off without tearing out my lashes, I usually find flakes of it on my cheeks a couple of days later. I think I'll be better off buying a better base to use with my favorite mascaras next time since I'm not too keen on using this mascara again. The Makeup Mascara Base from Shisheido is supposed to be really good.

I like this mascara. It makes my lashes very long and gives them a good amount of volume. I also like the consistency of the formula too - it not too wet nor is it too dry. It also doesn't sting my eyes either. It is a little hard to remove but that's because it is waterproof. But you can definitely watch a sappy movie and still have have the product all on your eyes! However, it does take time to apply the mascara on the right way because if you are not careful, you might accidentally miss something and end up having white and black lashes without even noticing it.

this is really great stuff! makes my lashes look extra long and black. it really is waterproof. you have to use makeup remover to get it off. this makes people think i am wearing false lashes when i'm not. it lasted through my july wedding day. didn't smudge or flake a bit. highly recommended!

I bought this mascara two months ago for a special occasion evening make up (a prom) and i hoped that it would give me dramatic, full, long lashes. Since then, I've only used this mascara once again, which tells a whole lot about this product.
- the black mascara is okay, like any normal mascara
- i don't fully understand why the base has to be white. it's not as if a white base would make your lashes any fuller or longer than a black one. it only makes it very hard to cover it up with the black later on.
- even though this mascara is supposed to be waterproof, it smudges like crazy
- applying two coats of any other mascara does the same job
- strange smell (nothing unusual for waterproof mascaras though)

I bought this mascara because I got bored of using Maybelline define-a-lash length everyday. I have to say when I first applied it I was pretty impressed even though I think I got an old tube. It made my already long eyelashes almost touch my eyebrows and I kept getting compliments. However, it is near impossible to wash off and I woke up with clumpy raccoon eyes the next day and the next. I wouldn't wear it on a daily basis but would definitely choose it for a special occasion. I didn't love the wand it was kinda messy for me & the tube I got seems to be suffering from last-one-on-the-shelf-itis....it got dry and gunky fast.

This was an impulse buy at Walmart, which I generally regret. I got the waterproof for the wax-based formula to hold the curl of my naturally straight lashes. Unfortunately, within minutes of applying my eyelashes started to droop, which was pretty disappointing it.
However, it did do a great job of lengthening, giving the false eyelash sort of look. Its volume is decent, not the best but good.
I wouldn't use this on a daily basis, but maybe for a night out or some special occasion. It really does take time to apply this stuff because you have to be quite careful. I have pretty long lashes that clump together really easily, so I had to be extra cautious when applying this product, especially when applying the second coat. You also have to be careful about getting all the white spots.
This is probably a good product for those with naturally curly lashes and some time, but not for me.

It lengthens and volumizes quite well. But make sure to not over apply either products. This is good for going out, because if your in a hurry the two step application is bothersome. I hate it when I miss a spot and have a bit of white on my lashes.

I'm really happy I tried this mascara. Packaging isn't all that fancy, but the product itself is great! This doesn't smear underneath my lower lashes. It adds volume, length, and holds a curl all day. I love the primer and the color side. The last packs I bought was from Rite Aide b/c they were having a special buy one, get one free, so I'm stocking up. This is one of my most favorite drug store brand mascara and I hope they don't discontinue it. This work so well for me. I will continue to purchase so long as Maybelline keeps producing it!

This mascara does widen my eyes a lot. I have dense and dark eye lashes, but unfortunately, it's sitting straight and pointing downward. So I usually curl them first, and then applied a mascara. This mascara holds the curl up quite well, even after a long day my lashes are still perky curling up. It also stays put quite well, without smudges. I don't mind the primmer, only problem is, it takes a bit longer to apply than normal mascara, for a girl like me who only have less than 5 min to "do" her face every morning, this is quite a bit of challenge. :)
I don't like the packaging. It's a double-sided mascara so the applicator is shorter it's rather difficult to apply some certain angle which is quite annoying.
Nevertheless, the results are good. I would still consider buying it again.
