I love Skinceuticals moisturizers but this product was horrible. It felt like a mask, didn't moisturize, left a white cast and was very heavy. I wore it once and couldn't wait to get home to wash it off my face.

I loved this product because its perfect for daily use and works well under my make up without blending or ruining the texture! Also, it has no smell which I love because sunblock always seem to smell so strong! I purchased mine at SkincareMarket.net for a affordable price! I recommend this site to anyone and everyone!

I bought this about a year ago based on the raving reviews on here and other sites. Unfortunately, a few days after I started using this, a series of teeny tiny, colourless bumps began to appear on my upper cheeks and after continued use of this product, they began to spread all over my face. I stopped using it for a few days, the bumps receded. I gave it another shot a couple of weeks later while on a backpacking trip in New Zealand, but the same thing happened so the barely used tube ended up in a kiwi garbage can :)
It must have been an allergic reaction of some sort to one of the ingredients. Which one(s), I don't know. I was very surprised because I had never had a reaction in my life and I haven't had one since. I guess it's just not the right sunscreen for me!

This is a review about the ESSENTIAL SUN DEFENSE SPF20. It is a good sunscreen, lightweight and not leaving a suffocating film on the face, and also moisturizing a bit, so it can be used directly over a serum. What I didnīt like though, is the fact that it is only SPF20. And also the price is a bit high for actually a basic sunscreen. Apart from that, nothing to criticise.

This is a good sunscreen. My one comment is that I have very fair skin and it makes me look even more pale so if you have darker skin it might look white.
It hasn't made me break out so far and I have been using it a few times a week for the past few months.
Active ingredients are: Octinoxate 5%, Zinc Oxide 5%
Some zinc oxide sunscreens sting my skin - this one doesn't.

First, the Skinceuticals site doesn't state that they use both physical and chemical filters for this sunscreen (5% octinoxate and 5% z-cote (transparent zinc)), from the product description I understood that it has zinc only, but no. Texture wise it's very easy to apply, very smooth and doesn't dry too fast, but it is very white and the whiteness doesn't fully disappear, it makes my yellow toned skin look whitish/pink and almost a shade lighter. It also settles into fine lines around eyes, especially on the upper lid there is a white line every time I apply this sunscreen there. I tried to use less, bet then I doubt the protection power, I already use less than the 1 tbsp recommended for face. Also this sunscreen is a nightmare as make up base, concealer and foundation steak like crazy if I try to apply them on top of this sunscreen. On the brighter side, even when I started retinol, this one didn't sting my skin as much as other sunscreens, so it's probably good for sensitive skin and use around eyes. Also there is no overbearing "sunscreen-smell", only a light fresh cream scent and it's not oily and doesn't get my skin greasy (in fact it's a bit drying, so I need a separate moisturizer underneath). But I'm not sure about the protection range of this one, octinoxate has a 280-320 nm range, z-cote according to various sources has 380 - 400 nm range, not >700 nm as normal zinc oxide, but the 380 - 400 nm depend one the formulation and Skinceuticals says it's broad-spectrum UVB/UVA block, so I don't have much reason to doubt, it probably is broad-spectrum and I'm just being paranoid.

This sunscreen leaves my face soft and moisturized. It doesn't have the white cast and does not settle in the fine lines like so many others do. Love it.

I can't be in denial anymore about this fabulous sunscreen. I first borrowed it 2 months ago from my mother and sister and have been using it ever since. It doesn't dry out my skin by the end of the day and doesn't break me out at all! This is such a pleasant surprise for my easily acne prone, pore-clogged, dehydrated, combination skin. This also makes for a great primer for the the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer (which I find too drying on its own). I take everything off at the end of the day with avocado oil and then a separate cleanser. I know that I'm going to have a long term relationship with this.

it moisturise my skin won't clog pores no out break, but it take a while to even out the whiteness on my face after i use it.

I brought this about 2 months ago and will keep buying.
I was using 30SPF previously in Ultraceuticals and Clarins brands most recently but they left a fairly thick residue on my face which of course is no good!
The girl in the shop explained as I was about to purchase the SPF30 the SPF20 is better as it does not leave the shine and isn't so thick She was right-on.
This works perfectly under my makeup and over moisturiser - it doesn't leave makeup flakey and I don't get a shiney face - I think it's awesome stuff and the price is great too.

I have a hard time being responsible about wearing sunscreen because even the expensive and/or European lotions and creams that I have tried are all just too uncomfortable. Now I'm finally being good! This is the first sunscreen I've ever found that doesn't sting at all or leave my face feeling even a little bit smothered. It's true that it does seem a bit heavy going on, in that it takes a little while to absorb and dry completely (not twenty minutes, though, for me -- by the time I've brushed my teeth and hair, I'm ready to apply makeup). But once that's done, it feels like nothing at all. Skin is soft, non-irritated, and free to breathe. My skin isn't especially oily, but it is certainly acne prone, and this has caused no problems at all in fall, winter, and spring weather. I'll have to wait and see if summer stickiness makes a difference, but the performance and wearability are already so much better than anything else I've tried that I'm very happy indeed.

I made a looooot of research trying to find the best sunscreen for oily skin, I finally decided to give Skinceuticals Daily Sun Defense a try since all the good reviews at MUA... well....I just can't believe how greasy this is, it leaves my face with a shiny cast and the cream its way to heavy, even when I wait around 5 to 10 minutes for this to sink in before I start to apply my make up, there is still a lot of greasiness and shine, I have to take a Blotting Paper and pass it on all over my face again and again, I'm very dissapointed :(

After reading the great reviews I decided to try this. I've used this daily for a month, and I love it! Its quite thick, but its not greasy, doesn't leave a white cast like some other sunscreens, and doesn't break me out.

I adore this sunscreen, which I have been using nearly every day for the last five weeks. It is extremely gentle, smells good, and moisturizes enough so that I don't need another moisturizer but it is light enough that I can reapply it every couple of hours - and, last but not least, it doesn't ball up. I am spending a lot of my summer by a swimming pool and even though I wear a hat and I try to stay in the shade, I need serious sun protection. I wish this had a higher SPF but the combination of stable chemical sunscreen and zinc as a physical blocker is very effective, and I just apply it frequently. I also really like how this does not sting or irritate my face the way most chemical sunscreens do. I feel as though my skin has gotten brighter and clearer since I've been using it - maybe it's the zinc, but I really like this. I will probably need more moisturizer if I continue to use this into the fall, however.

This is the only sunscreen product I can use on my face. Its the only one that doesn't break me out or make me oily, and even makes my skin look better. It is a moisturiser as well so you don't need an extra product. I use this in the morning over my Phyto Corrective Gel, and sometimes CE Ferulic.
I think it is great value for money since you get a moisuriser and sunbloc in one. A little goes a long way, and its a large tube which should last quite a while. I've been using it all summer and I think it will probably last me another 6 months at least.
I have also used this to convert a too-thick-foundation into a tinted moisturiser. I mixed about 1 part of the Daily Sun Defense to 1 part foundation in a little jar and now have the perfect sheer tinted moisturiser with sunblock.

This was my first Skinceuticals product. I've been using it for over a year now. I love it! It is expensive, but lasts a pretty long time. Plus, it's got an SPF 20. I love knowing that my face is protected. I use this as a moisturizer. Some people may use this as a sun-screen and then use an additional moisturizer over it, but I feel this alone is enough moisture for my skin. It goes in really well too, doesn't leave any streaks.
I've noticed it also helps makeup go on smoother. I put this on, wait about 2 minutes, then put on makeup. No breakouts, rashes or irritation from this. It's worked really well for me!

I love this sunblock! Before this I was using the Ultimate SPF 30 and that was an an HG. But since I don't spend too much time in the sun...I realized I didn't really need the high spf. So I switched this one. To me it seems like the same consistency as the spf 30. In the mornings I wash my face, tone, apply SkinC vit C, B5 gel and this sunblock. My skin just loves it!

This is a great SPF for the face. I like how it has both chemical and physical spf ingredients. Most Zinc Oxides leave a white film that takes forever to fade. This has transparent Zinc Oxide so you can throw it on and leave the house without a white face. Applies well. Excellent product!!!!

bought this about a month ago and have been using it religiously since then...great sunscreen, doesn't irritate my sometimes sensitve combo-skin, and makeup will go on great over it- no pilling, etc.
it's slightly moisturizing so i don't wear anything over it- sometimes the B5 gel. the only thing keeping it from 5 lippies is that you do get a slight shine from it- but i just pat translucent powder on top and it's good to go.

I've used this on and off for years and it's great for daily use under makeup. However, I recently tried Blue Lizard's Face and it is excellent- it has more zinc oxide(8% compared to 5%)and is just as light and non-greasy at 1/3 of the price. It has a lighter, whipped consistency compared to the Blue Lizard Sensitive Skin and blends more easily. I will continue to use the Sensitive for when I'll be outside for long periods of time but this one is great for daily use.
