At first sniff I was a little disapointed with this birthday cake smell because I could smell a cherry base WHICH I HATE in all etailer products but this did eventually go away after washing. It smells like your typical e-tailer birthday cake which is fine and does live up to its name, but I am trying to find a birthday cake scent that smells like when you first walk into a cake bakery (any recs?). The shampoo felt like a light milky hand wash, and it did not produce a good lather yet it still cleaned my dirty/oily long locks really well. It was VERY gentle and did not strip color either. I had to use 1/4 of the bottle for my long almost half way down my back hair so Im hesitant to re order any more scented shampoos because I payed 6 dollars for this little bottle which will only last me 4 times. The conditioner felt like a lotion at first. I literally thought "aw man she put lotion in my conditioner bottle!" but knowing they are homemade I used it anyways. It immediatly detangled my curly wet hair and my strands were feeling silky soft. I barely had to comb my fingers through my hair the conditioner did all of the detangling work for me. It rinsed VERY clean and both it and the shampoo had no greasy feel to them at all. I was really expecting my hair to dry out from these products or have been overloaded with oils but my hair looked great & felt great. I think I did use a bit too much conditioner on my thin hair and it was borderline heavy but that was my fault. My hair had volume, shine, and softness with no frizzies so over all these do live up to the claims on the website. To top if off I walked up to my mom and said smell my hair she immediatly said "what is that? it smells like some sort of vanilla -chocolate-birthday cake". So it really does smell like birthday cake and my mom does NOT use etailer products and she doesnt even know about etailers/ hair products that you can get scents for besides reg salon drugstore shampoos. I will prob try another etailer & hair scent for my next purchase but I am over all satisfied with these 2 products. *Some notes: For the first time in my life I actually used more shampoo then I did conditioner! The conditioner works so well I only needed a little bit but it felt so good I used a lot. I had to use a lot of shampoo because I was trying to get lather. I also used the S&L protein hair mist in birthday cake after the shampoo & conditioner. It worked wonderfully with these 2 items & possibly is what caused the heaviness (not the conditioner) because I must have sprayed it 5 times cuz it felt so nice. Another update* sorry for this review being long but its for 2 products... I used the shampoo again but this time instead of relying on the shampoo for lather I used a small amount and added tons of water and THIS did cause it to produce a very nice foam. Im used to the shampoo doing the lathering not water so that was my mistake.
