I bought the MAC double ended sharpener ( thin one end and thick the other).
Worst thing I ever wasted $10 on.

It falls apart in at the middle spilling sharpenings everywhere.

You cannot even tape it together as that's where you empty it from.

I don't know if I just got a faulty one but I'm not impressed at all , going to throw it out.

Appalling sharpener. Used this in a hurry last night and it totally mangled my favorite eye pencil. Thought maybe I was in too much of a rush, so tried again today and found a bit of plastic which seemed to be deliberately there, but it stopped the pencil touching the blade properly. Tried a bigger pencil (as the hole is very big) and it too got eaten. Broke off the piece of plastic and the blade fell out, so chucked it away.
Really annoyed as it has great ratings and I'm sure I am capable of using a pencil sharpener, but can't see how this could ever have worked. Maybe there is a faulty batch.

This one doesn't sharpen well. Or maybe that's my own personal experience, since so many other reviews on here are positive. Maybe I got a faulty one, but I thought this was the case with every sharpener in the world, meaning it was allowed to have its ups and downs. Recently I happened to lose it, so I replaced it with another Mac sharpener which is black with two holes (one for regular pencils and one for bigger ones), so I was able to compare and feel the difference between the two. The second one performs impeccably, it gets the pencils sharp and neat, like when I first bought them at the store. Now I realise that this one was pretty useless and I was being patient with it in vain. Had I not lost it, it would have kept consuming my precious pencil tips forever. Happy accident. Wouldn't repurchase.

Ehr... the tip of the (m.a.c.) pencil came off. It doesn't let it to be sharpened at will either, since there's a piece of plastic preventing it from happening. That's why the tip came off, I'm sure, because it cannot handle the stress of the rotation against a stationary object. Too bad I can't return it because it was expensive (7.5€), does not sharpen anything like I'd want and the freaking tip came off (the whole thing! Of a 17€ pencil no less!).

It does sharpen the wood part nicely, but that's not what you want in a makeup sharpener. Come on now. It has a deposit and is see-through thorugh the bottom. That's a plus and I wish more pencil sharpeners did this, but still, I wish I hadn't bought it. Jesus, the whole tip.

This is an amazing sharpener! How did I live with my drugstore sharpeners for so long? LOL This pencil always gives me a perfect, clean point to my eye liners--my pencils never have any jagged edges when I use this! And to top it off, it's only six bucks. Even if it's the only MAC product you buy, try this sharpener out sometime!

This is a good sharpener because it is indeed very sharp and easy to use, and the little cover is great. I absolutely despise sharpening my pencils (I'd rather clean all my brushes twice), so I inevitably leave it off until I just MUST do it, and it always happens to be early in the morning when I'm in a rush. So this sharpener makes my life that much easier, since I can deal with the mess and cleanup later, and leave the shavings in there. My gripes about this sharpener are that the point it creates is too long IMO (I'm being super picky here), and the cover tends to come off too easily. Overall, worth the $3 I paid for it, but would probably not purchase at full price (though I'm not sure what full price is).

I've had this sharpener for over a year, and it's amazing. It's lasted, and looks brand new. It sharpens quickly and it's worth every penny!

I bought this a few years ago. I really love this sharpener!! I don't see a need to purchase any other pencil sharpener unless it was a jumbo one for bigger pencils like NYX.

I had it for a long time before I had noticed that it had the stick on the bottom to clean the sharpener! I felt like an idiot but then again I was happy to find it! It is so easy to clean and it works so well! It doesn't break my pencils and it sharpens everything to smoothly, it is fun to use!

I owe two of these perfect little sharpeners, one of them I had for 10 years and its still going strong. I love the fact that it sharpens every makeup pencil out there (minus the jumbo ones!) creating a perfect "fine" point. This also comes with a little stick thingy on the bottom of the sharpener so you can clean out all that gunk that's left behind. LOVE IT!
I noticed they came out with a newer version as well. I may give that one a try!

[HG SHARPENER.]

I have been using a cheap $1 sharpener for 2 years and it finally broke. I NEVER realised what a huge difference there was from MAC and drugstore products until this sharpener.

It comes with a lid on both top and bottom, and a pick to help clean out shavings stuck to the blade. The pick is great but the lid is a bit hard to get off.

The blade itself is WOW <3, I never knew my pencils could sharpen so smoothly and it leaves my pencils nice and sharp without being too pointy.

This was only $6 AUD. A great investment! I now look FORWARD to blunting my pencils just so I can sharpen them. ;)

EDIT: After I tried to use some of my newly sharpened pencils I found that the kohl had become hard and wouldn't transfer onto my eyes (scratched my eyelids!), and I had to scribble on the back of my hand to get the pencils to work again. No biggie I guess.

EDIT: After a while it started breaking all my pencils. :( I then realised the trick to getting really sharp pencils *without* breaking them by accident is to open the bottom lid, sharpen slowly, and watch when the pencil is about to reach the end.

I bought a sharpener for my studio touch up stick. I love it for the first 2 weeks. It sharpens nicely with no product waste.

Both the top and bottom caps don't stay in place. It's a hassle to try to sharpen the pencil with the top coming off. I had to add tapeto keep them in place. I knocked off two lippies because I feel that for a sharpener, I shouldn't be using tape to keep the top on.

this sharpener is AWESOME! i didnt realize how crappy my other sharpener was until i tried this! picked it up at my CCO for $4, and its great! the blade is super sharp, and sharpens quickly and effortlessly. My pencils now have cute, perfect little points. It gets them really pointy without being needle sharp, and who needs needle sharp points anyway? can you say OUCH?
both the top and bottom can come off for easy cleaning, and it comes with a cool pointy stick tool to help clean out bits and pieces in the blade!! how cool is that? that was the coolest surprise for me!
LOVE THIS! will definitely repurchase!

I used just use the cheap drugstore ones which would waste the product and would be hard to clean. However, when I need a couple extra dollars for my free shipping, I bought this and it works great! It doesn't waste any product and it's really easy to clean. Also, it doesn't make a super sharp tip (which I hate since I like the smudgy look) and I noticed my eyeliners were lasting much longer. It's also a great price at $5.

This is a great sharpener although not the best, but I seriously haven't found another that is better. Half a twist is all it takes to completely sharpen the pencil without taking much off of the pencil at all.

I have one at home and one in my makeup bag. I love how the bottom they give you this little pen thingy so you could poke out lead that broke from you over-sharpening lolz. Love it :)
I don't see anything wrong with it yet. I've had these for over a year and I just bought another one today because I lost the one that was in my makeup bag :(

Whoever is raving about this has evidently never used a great sharpener. I have an amazing one I bought from Calvin Klein, but I can't find another to replace it, I just wanted a spare. I first bought Benefit pencil sharpener, with 2 hole sizes, but it was soooo lousy I thought I'd be safe getting a MAC one, seeing as their brushes are so good, I imgined they excelled at makeup tools. I wish I'd read some reviews first...

This is a really rubbish sharpener, it wasted my pencil as I tried, again and again, to get a sharp pencil. Hello- why do you think I bought a sharpener?! This never gave me a sharp point, in fact my pencil tip broke off at the millionth attempt. My CK one: 2 twists and it was razor sharp. I'm disappointed, in UK this is £2.50 and as far as I'm concerned that is a rip-off. It looks professional, but in fact it's utterly useless. What a con.

I just bought it today.

PROS: It sharpens shaving the least amount of pencil so you actually "save" the pencil from being butchered all the way down to it's base. I really like the versus cheapo sharpeners that eat your whole pencil. Also, the price is good. 3 bucks for this thing.

CONS: Packaging is a little flimsy. The top that holds in the shavings comes off. I believe you need to empty it out everytime you use it. Also, it didnt really give me the sharpest point. I actually sharpened my MAC eye kohls with it and the point was a little sharp but not as sharp as I thought it would. In a way, its a good thing for me since I use my eye kohls mostly on my water line. Don't really want a point for that.

Overall, its an ok sharpener. I would probably try to find a better one that actually gives me a sharper point especially for my power point pencils. So I wouldn't repurchase but since I have it now, I'll keep using it.

Update: 5/22/08- don't use this anymore, bought a cheaper sharpener by REVLON... sharpens with a few twists...maybe even half a twist. Also, it has two different sizes and takes plastic and wood...go buy this one. I only use the handy little pick from the MAC one to punch out any little specks of shavings out of the sharpener.

OMGGGG this was the worst sharpener I have EVER purchased. It NEVER sharpened any of my lip liners or eye liners all it did was gap them up and make the tips fall off or make them really jagged where some of the actual pencil was pointed and it would rake across my lips! >_< noooo more. I bought a prestige sharpener at CVS that is Heaven sent and it is what I would of expected out of MACs sharpener. totally disapointed. You'd be better off sharpening your liners with a pocket knife!

Like most reviewers have already mentioned, this sharpener does NOT give you a sharp pointed tip at all. It does however make really thin shavings of your pencil, so I'm guessing it saves you eye pencil. But for me, I like clean, precise lines, and this just doesn't do for me. Sure it looks slick and all with its packaging (which MAC product doesn't?)
Overall, I do not recommend this sharpener, and will not repurchase.
