I have been using this product off and on since 2008, when I originally bought the tube for my husband. Fast-forward to 4 years later and I am surprised I have kept it this long, so I decided to use the remaining 75% of the tube, since my husband is not much a skincare kind of guy. I have been using this product almost every night for a year and find that it is non-greasy for my combo skin type (great because I hate waking up to my husband in the morning with the oiliest face - NOT attractive), I find it "calming" and reduces redness on my acne-prone face. For its anti-wrinkle properties, I do wake up with a tighter, firmer face and because I am only 25 and Asian, I cannot attest to this being a miracle product.

PROs:
+ Non-greasy
+ Firms & tightens my skin overnight
+ Doesn't break out my acne-prone skin
+ Calms & reduces my redness
+ On Paula's Choice/Cosmetic Cop's TOP "Best Retinol Products" list
+ Affordable for an anti-wrinkle skincare product ($15-20)

CONs:
+ Must be careful with extracting cream because it is easy to push out too much cream due to the traditional tube design

As the product boasts 'retinol' the star ingredient is high on the list for this product. A lot of reviewers complain of getting irritation while using this. This is a normal symptom while using a retinol product. The good news is that it has anti irritants like green tea wich might help. If you still experience irritation stop using it or use it only every other night. Although I personally think it depends on any experience a user had if they used a
retinol product before. On a personal note I used tretinoin and my face itched and stung my skin peeled more than a bananna and turned red . When I used this though it did not bother me at all. Don't quote me on this though because this was just my experience and I can't speak for everybody. This is a product that you must wear sunscreen with and the product warns you about this on the back. If you don't adhere this warning the positives of using this will cancel out you will have more irritation and you will waste money.
Anyway I don't think this has really helped my acne my brother uses it too and it doesn't help him. I don't think the concentration is enough to help that.
I think this has helped fade my acne scars a little but only temporarily.
This comes in a lotion and it feels lightweight. I would like it to be a little heavier but that might just be me.
This also has small amounts of vitamin E wich work as antioxidants wich is defenitely a good thing.
I brought this at the drugstore and the packaging protects the ingredients inside of it. It cost $13.00 and for 1.4 oz that is an okay price.

I have super mixed feelings about this product, so I'll let you decide after my review!

I bought this because my face was a little dry and I thought it could do with a bit of love in the form of a night cream. I put it on, and my first impression was that the cream felt really nice to put on but then kicked in the retinol.

I've never used retinol before in my life so I guess my skin reacted to it like a newbie. My skin broke out into the most hideous dry, painful and very very red rash all over my face. And just as luck would have it, I was going on holiday that day. None of my usual creams worked to help it (cliniques moisture surge) and everything hurt. But while I was on the plane, I smothered on some of Elizabeth Ardens 8 hour cream and although its quite thick, it soothed it somewhat.

Now by this point, you're probably all scared of this product. But when I landed at my destination and was at the hotel, I pressed a warm damp cloth to my face and found that all that disgusting dry flaky skin was quite literally peeling off with minimal effort. After a very engle exfoliation with the cloth and some cetaphil cleanser, my skin was a bit pink but the gross skin was gone and my face actually felt much softer! For the next few nights I continued to use the 8 hour cream till my face was back to normal .

Now, the moral of the story is that if you're willing to brave the storm of this cream then go ahead. If your skin is particularly sensitive like mine, I recommend you use this product when you don't have any parties of social events to go to (just in case you get a reaction).

Personally, I only use this product about once every 1-2 weeks because it scares me a little so I probably wouldn't repurchase.

I am 53 years old and have used this product for years. I am told I look like my daughter`s sister, not old enough to be a grandmother, etc. I have used Neutrogena products for years. I have tried other products, only to break out, get flaky skin or other problems. This is the only retinol that works without irritation and peeling. I have no lines around my eyes. I also use sunscreen, avoid the sun, wear sunglasses, and have taken care of myself. This is just the way it has to be. I know that the endless tubes of this product are what have helped the most along with a light moisturizer at night. Don`t use retinol in the day, it makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Also use the one that says Night it is the original formula. Recently I have been sick and had to try some other Neutrogena products and I am equally pleased with them.

I just wrote my review for the day time version of this cream. I love them both! Especially together. I have been using Philosophy HIAJ for forever now. It's just too expensive to justify anymore. It didn't seem to do much for me.

I have really dry, pale and freckled skin. Lots of sun damage from growing up in the Vegas sun, paired with a condition I have, equals pretty damn dry skin. This has been working well. I get that "tight skin" stretched look pretty easily without a good moisturizer, and when I am using this I just don't have that problem.

My only real complaint is the dumb tube. If for whatever reason it gets squeezed too hard (thank you clumsy hands...), it's impossible to save it. I just throw the extra on my neck and call it a day. lol If you're looking for a good, economical moisturizer I would absolutely recommend this paired with the day time version with SPF. Works very well on my uber dry skin.

Love this stuff!! I am 45 and have been using some kind of anti-aging product on my skin for the last 20 years....so thankfully, my lines are few and those that I do have are very shallow. But I am plagued with uneven skin tone and occasional blemishes. I have been using this faithfully for a month and see a noticeable difference in my lines, skin tone and texture. When I wake up, my skin is soft and even has a bit of radiance. I find myself needing less and less concealer and foundation. And I haven't had a blemish since I started using this. Dear God, I just may get the skin I've always hoped for. Fingers crossed!!!!

I've been using this for 2 months now, and this is my HG night moisturizer! I never do reviews, but this product is so great I had to write about it. I had fine lines under my eyes, and I used many moisturizers and eye creams in hopes of fading them. This has faded them significantly. I have combination skin and I'm prone to getting a pimple or two fairly often no matter what I use. However this has reduced my breakouts. My skin is very clear and this has greatly improved my skin texture overall. It's fairly cheap and produces amazing results!

I've waited about a 6 weeks before writing a review for this. I don't write many reviews about skin care, especially anti-aging ones, because I don't find that they do anything positively or negatively. My results are usually just "meh". I am 34, fair skinned, blue eyed, and a redhead. I am pretty diligent about sun protection and always have been, so my skin is in pretty good shape anyways. Before starting this product, I had a few lines around my eyes and around my mouth. They weren't deep, but noticeable. After a month of using this every night as my moisturizer, I noticed a significant difference in those lines, especially around my eyes. The skin looked hydrated, plump, and youthful. The texture of my skin has also improved. I should also add that at the same time I started using this, I also started using the Oil Cleansing Method exclusively to cleanse my face, remove makeup, etc..., so I don't know if this product, the OCM, or the combination of both helped my skin so much, but this didn't break me out, dry out my skin, and didn't irritate my somewhat sensitive skin. I'll certainly keep using this when I'm finished. It's affordable, and little goes a long way. 5 lippies for sure!!!

This product does nothing. It is an okay moisturizer (though it can feel a tad greasy), but I saw NO changes in 1.5 months. I bought the day one (not 'intensive', just the normal antiwrinkle day) to see if I had better luck and it is the best thing I have used for my dull skin/fine lines ever. Hoping this would add to the effects if I used them together, I tried it again. Still nothing. Now I use the day one both day and night and my skin just keeps getting slowly, steadily better. Forcing myself to finish out this bottle (using it for my chest/neck), but I will not repurchase.

I LOVE this moisturizer!!!! I have been using this retinol night cream for almost 2 years and I have recommended this to many friends/family. It is a creamy non-greasy moisturizer that doesn't cause breakouts and leaves my skin supple and smooth. I love how soft my skin feels when I wake up! I love that it is fragrance free and relatively inexpensive. I am so happy with this that I don't even want to look for another night time moisturizer!!

I am loving this! I have been using this for about a month now and am about halfway through the tube, so a tube would last about two months I'd say.
For the first week or so this was a little bit drying as my skin adjusted to the retinol - but not bad at all and easilly fixed with a gentle scrub.
I have been using it every night after cleansing (you only need a pea sized amount each time) and it absorbs into the skin nicely leaving it soft and smooth with a radiant glow but no shine (can't stand moisturisers that leave a shiny layer on the skin!). The next morning after using this cream my skin looks clear and healthy and flawless. Overall I have noticed a reduction in redness, blackheads and an all over firming and softening effect. It has also not irritated my sensitive skin and helps keep shine at bay. Will continue to buy as I feel this is the best night cream I have ever used - especially considering the price which is very reasonable.

This is a good night cream for removing fine lines and hydrating your face, especially in winter. It absorbs quickly but I found that in summer I wake up with a slightly oily face. You don't have to use much of it, which is good as you don't get much in the tube, and it's not a very cheap product. Can be a bit hard to ge the last bit of cream out of the tube, but on the other hand it's a very hygienic packaging. I would repurchase in the future as it does leave my skin looking clear and removes fine lines around my mouth (would use it during winter), but will look for a summer night cream for now instead.

It took several weeks for me to see results with this product. But now I do. My skin definitely looks brighter, more even, and my pores are less noticeable. This was my desire. Also I didn't really notice changes until I started using it in conjunction with a BHA cream (this at night, the BHA in the morning). Not sure if the BHA is really doing the magic or this, or if it's the combination (I hope so), but I definitely don't think this is hurting! It has definitely not broken out/clogged my pores in any way, in fact my pores are clearing up and look noticeably smaller than before I started using this. It applies smoothly, and makes my skin feel soft. The one negative affect I have noticed is that the skin on my nose can get a tad dry/peely. It's easily remedied with some basic moisturizer/primer before my face makeup in the morning, though. This is moderately expensive for a drugstore product, but overall reasonable, as it does last a while. Also I have always been of the mind that I'm willing to pay a bit more for high quality things that go on my face. I'd repurchase.

For me, after having tested several moisturizers for my combination skin throughout the last two years (e.g. ROC products didn't work for me, Neostrata glycolic moisturizer is very good but only for occasional uses because it's too strong and drying in the long run), this is the winner. Why? Because it gives me velvety soft skin, keeps my blackheads and blemishes in the t-zone perfectly at bay, nurtures my skin (especially my cheeks and eye area feel wonderfully hydrated without feeling greasy) and minimizes my pores. Furthermore, deep lines on my forehead have gotten A LOT less noticeable but maybe this has to do with the Olay Regenerist Serum that I put on top of this moisturizer at night. I just can tell it works!!!
After first days of use, you might notice that your skin peels as this is part of why it works so well, so you will have to integrate a mild exfoliator into your routine to get rid of the dead skin cells. Nevertheless, even after continous use of more than a year, this product does NOT have a drying effect on my skin which was always the problem with moisturizers that helped with my t-zone.

OMG one of the best skin care products I've ever used on my face!! I desperately needed a new moisturizer and decided to pick this up and I'm so glad that i did! I just started using this and I've already noticed a huge difference in the texture of my skin. My skin looks and feels more plumped up, healthy and really moisturized. I've always had pretty good skin but it was only until recently that I've been getting compliments on my skin. I also noticed that my makeup looks more flawless when I apply it on my face because my skins texture has improved. Another thing that i really like is that you only need a really small amount, i apply a pea sized amount right after i shower and it absorbs really well into my skin. What i dont really like is the price but i think for this product its totally worth it!

I love this cream! I swear, when I use this, my complexion looks sooo much better! I used this about two years ago before they changed the packaging, and even then I loved it. It was making my skintone even and helped with any acne scars. And then when I used up that tube, I never repurchased. Well, I'm 24 now and I started noticing wrinkles around my forehead and eyes. I also noticed a sun spot on my left upper cheek from when I spent a week in Florida sun (I used lots of SPF), and I had a couple of acne scars (my skin is sensitive and scars easily). So I repurchased this about 4 weeks ago and I'm in love. The sun spot is fading, the acne scars are fading, my skin feels soft, and looks fresh. I haven't seen any wrinkles being reduced yet, but we will see... I like the way it makes my skin look that I might not mind the $15 price tag (Target price, it's $20 everywhere else) even if its not reducing wrinkles.

So, according to the reviews here, it seems that you will either love this product or for a few of us your skin will react to it - mine did the latter. I had been using a Pro Active retinol product (clarifying night cream) and my skin was fine with it, but was looking for a cheaper one so after reading about this one in Paula's book gave it a try. I have used it for 3 nights now (my intension was to try it for at least a week) and I have started to get a red reaction (swelling and redness) in two places on my face/neck. This is the only thing I have changed and as I have had a reaction to another Neutrogena product before so figured that it must just be something in their formulas that doesn’t agree with me (strangely enough I am ok with their Oil free moisture for sensitive skin and oil free eye make-up remover). It was nicely moisturizing, but I'm going to have to stop and let the reaction clears up on its own. I may keep the tube to try it again at a later date just to be sure it was that.

Got this from a one-day-sale site so it was quite cheap - unfortunately rather expensive when not on sale. I have mild acne and some wrinkles on my forehead. Used the stuff every night for three months, and I can honestly say I have noticed an improvement in the acne (still there but doesn't last as long and not as large) and my forehead wrinkles are definitely reduced. I've changed nothing else so would have to put it down to this stuff. Don't know how it would work for deeper, older wrinkles, but I'm a 25 year old smoker and it did a good job.
Will probably repurchase if I can find it cheap enough. Didn't block pores and unoffensive smell (not like the day stuff which smells like vomit).
Definitely worth a try.

I used up more than half of the tube before reviewing the product - so far it's been 2 months (applied once a night for the most part). I used it in conjunction with the Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle SPF15 moisturizer that also contains retinol. I actually tried these products in the hopes that it would help a bit with my acne, but it did not seem to have any effect on acne - good or bad.

As a moisturizer, it feels like a light lotion but does not dry to a powdery finish like the Anti-Wrinkle SPF15. As far as wrinkles go, I did not have any to begin with so I do not know if it was useful for that. It did seem to make my skin tone more even, though. I also believe it helped speed up my skin's healing process because my post-acne redness/scarring faded faster than prior to starting this product. Instead of the redness taking 6 months to heal substantially, it seemed to cut it down to maybe 1-2 months. It did not fade my sunspots/freckles, unfortunately.

Overall, I think this is a decent product. Since my primary reason for use was to treat and prevent acne, and it did not help with that, there is no other reason for me to repurchase. But if I had to choose between this and the Anti-Wrinkle SPF15, I would pick the SPF15. This product is ~$8 more expensive and I don't feel it is any better than the cheaper Anti-Wrinkle SPF15 day moisturizer.
