This product actually controls oil. It has salicylic acid to clear comedones and tiny microsponges that soak up oil. If you are truly oily you'll love it - if you're not it may feel too dry. My only complaint is that if you use too much it kind of 'beads up' when you put your foundation on - almost like it's flaking - so the trick is to use the smallest amount possible. Sometimes I just apply it in the T zone and put a diff moisturizer on the rest of my face and neck.

It's called Oil Control Lotion. It didn't moisturize at all and made my face produce grease even faster than usual. Seriously, I look like I've been standing over a deep fat fryer. It's OK all around, not terrible, but it doesn't meet the product claim for me.

Love love love this!!! It actually does what it says!! Before i used this i used to become really oily about 2 hours after my morning cleansing. But with this im pratically oil free all day! Its usually around dinner time that i start to feel a wee bit of oil but nothing compared to what i used to have and also i can only feel it a wee bit, you cant see the oil on the skin, none of that disgusting greasy look i used to have. I will definitely keep buying this. I also use it with the clearing mattifier but thats more of a primer for my large pores as i think this is what really controls the oil out of the two!!

While dermalogica does have some good products that I love (microfoliant! clearing skin wash) this was a miss for me. I bought this with the mattifier because I was told that these together would guaranteed keep the oil at bay- but 4 hours later, I am oily and my foundation is fading along with the rest of my face.
I have found the only thing that works for me after trying loads of different primers and mattifiers is mac's spf 50 prep and prime.

Awful. If I could upload a photo of my chin that is now COVERED in angry, red, throbbing spots, I would. Please learn from my mistake and avoid.

I cannot say enough good things about this product. It was the first Dermalogica project I used (at the recommendation of my facialist) and it truly had a dramatic effect on my skin. It completely mattified my skin like never before, and this had the amazing effect of almost completely eliminating my acne. I absolutely LOVE this product, and will continue to buy it. Yes, it is expensive (I almost cried the first time I bought it), but the tiny bottle lasted me for 4 months, which seems reasonable to me, AND - most importantly - it works better than any product I have ever used. At the beginning of December, I found that it was too light for the winter, so I have switched to Active Moist, but I will definitely be returning to this product for the summer. If you are on the verge of buying this, I really encourage you to give it a shot!!

I really like this product. I didn't buy this for the Oil-control-thing, i bought it for dealing with my acne, and it really did. People have noticed it, and mentioned how great my skin is doing. So, really like it! :-)

I've used Dermalogica exclusively for the past four years with Special Cleansing Gel and Skin Smoothing Cream as my staples. My skin has been oily and acne prone since my early teens. Dermalogica has cleared up the acne tremendously and improved my skin tone, but the shine was still there - UNTIL I switched to the Dermal Clay Cleanser and Oil Control Lotion. Wow what a difference this lotion makes! I can't believe I didn't try this a long time ago. Always feared it would be too drying, but I've used this combo for a month now and my skin is clearer and the oiliness is gone. Pores seem a lot smaller. My skin feels matte and soft during the whole day, which I never thought would be possible for me. This means I don't have to use as much concealer and barely any blotting powder anymore. I have less white heads, black heads and break outs too, and they seem to disappear faster. If my skin feels a little tight, I add some Skin Hydrating Booster. I am so happy with this lotion, and I don't think I'll switch for a long time. Wish they would make a 100 ml bottle though.

This is a great lotion, and it did help prevent major oiliness throughout the day, however it's not worth the money when it does very little compared to my usual lotions used in conjunction with a mattifying primer.

I got a sample of this at a beauty store and after one use I know I will definitely not be buying this. This is the only lotion I've used that has balled up on my skin after applying sunscreen. It was quite terrible. However I would say that it seemed to do an okay job of moisturizing. Didn't use it more to comment on its pimple fighting properties but seriously, what kind of lotion would ball up on your skin -.- I know that Dermatologica products are quite expensive so definitely not worth it for me.

This is by far the best oil controlling moisturiser i have ever used. After years of using so many different products, i can confidently say that using this ultra light lotion has dramatically improved my skin. I havn't been getting many breakouts at all, my skin stays mattified throughout the day and it has been the clearest it has been in years!! Ever since i have been using this product i instantly saw the difference. I do highly recommend it, you will get results if you know how to use it properly and use it along side other products prescribed for you skin condition.. That is the most important factor otherwise you will not get the results you are meant to get from using it..
If you have sensitive acne prone skin i highly recommend you give it a try!!

Tried this in ulta. Worked great for my oily t-zone. However I can't justify spending that much on it. Will try something cheaper

Not too bad. I didn't like the shiny look it gives after you put it on your skin, it would be nice it was somewhat mattifying, considering this is for people with oily, shiny skin! I have found other products though (beta hydroxy acid) that work better in controlling oil - much more than this. Quite expensive too.

It's easy to apply, sinks right into the skin and doesn't feel greasy after application. The cons are that it doesn't mattify my skin for a very long time and fails to clear up pimples, at least as far as I can tell. Another con is that I doubt if this lotion hydrates my skin enough. Oily skins need hydration as well! Certainly not a bad product but I think it's a little overrated and certainly overpriced.

This was ok. Not amazing but I hardly expect any product to make your skin completely oil free. If you buy a set that includes this, it would be best. I wouldn't buy it alone, though.

I could not live without this product, and am seriously tempted to stockpile gallons of it in case it’s ever discontinued, but I do think it should have a different name, because as far as I’m concerned it’s the real Dermalogica Clearing Gel – the product they actually sell under that name does nothing for me, but Oil Control clears up my spots quicker than anything I’ve ever known, and prevents any kind of break out if I put it on my skin while a spot is in its early stages.

Having struggled with spots all my life, this really is my favourite product ever. I’ve used Dermalogica for years, but this is far and away the best product as far as I’m concerned. However I’m sorry that not everybody has the same results from it. I bought it for two of my long suffering friends and it did nothing to help them, which is such a shame. My advice would be to get a sample, that’s how I discovered it, and it worked immediately. If it works, and you decide to buy more, then it may seem expensive but a 50ml bottle lasts about nine months with twice/thrice daily use, so it's worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.

A couple years ago, I splurged on a bottle of this. I had such high hopes that were destined for dashing when it failed utterly and completely! I used nearly the whole bottle to no avail.I am over 40 and have had seriously oily skin (shiny within an hour of washing) since my teens. Do not waste your money on this!!!! I don''t understand why Dermalogica insisists on continuing to sell this useless product. It has, IMHO, absolutely no oil controlling effect whatsoever.

WOW! THIS IS NOT GOOD! I got it on ebay, SALON size. So i was hoping with continous religious use, i will achieve a matte conplexion, but it didnt happen! instead i felt i was just applying something like flour combined with water for it to look like a moisturizer! And it doent heal or prvent acne, skip it or use it religiously and you will se no defference!
