Excellent product. I was always thinking that many of the priming products are just another step that can be easily skipped for it doesn't really make a big difference. I didn't have high expectations for this primer and yet decided to give it a try.
It comes in a screw tube which is easy to use. The product is smooth and glide on easily. It sinks in your lips making them feel very smooth. Also feels tiny bit tacky. Guess the formulation is as such so that your lip product that goes on top stays on better and doesn't smear. The primer somewhat reveals the colour of your product better as well.
Will definitely repurchase since it is a nice feel and excellent effect. Has a slight vanilla smell when you try and smell directly from the packaging. When applied the smell is not detected.

I'm indifferent about this primer.
It feels smooth, prevents lipstick smearing, has nice scent and packaging, it's not pricey but... I don't really like the tacky feeling on my lips. Probably won't repurchase.

PROS: Best lip primer I've ever tried. Helps my lipstick from bleeding into lip wrinkles, and does it last longer. Doesn't dry my lips out at all.
CONS: Not cheap. Also, it's not common, but it can break off, so don't "roll it up" too high. Just roll it up as high as you need to.

I love this! Absolutely love this. Before I tried the MAC Prep + Prime, I was using Urban Decay's Lip Primer Potion. That lip primer gave me the impression that lip primers are the spawn of Satan and I hated it. Then I tried the MAC one and I fell in love!
The product itself is completely transparent, super creamy and moisturizing. It prevents my lipstick from feathering (which it always does without it) and keeps the lipstick from drying out my lips. Also, the primer smells really good, which is a plus!
Totally worth the money.

I never really liked lipsticks because they were dry and smelled like old perfume but MAC lipsticks changed everything for me! The colors are beautiful and match me perfectly. Reasonable price, wide variety and selection I’ve become obsessed and I love all their collections. I highly recommend buying them!
I recently bought this to use before applying my MAC lipsticks and it's wonderful! Definitely recommend!!!

I LOVE this lip primer. After years of suffering with dodgy lipstick smudges and smears, I stopped wearing bright lipstick. Then I had a MAC makeover and the MU artist chose a bright lippie for me. I refused, telling her why, and she told me about prep and prime lip. I bought one that day and have never looked back. I wear it any time I wear a pigmented lipstick, My lips feel nourished, and I NEVER get smudges, nor does my lipstick bleed. I can now wear any bright coloured lippie with confidence. Best invention ever! I find it works best by applying it all over, slightly above and below my lips, then letting it set for at least ten minutes. You have to try it. Xxx

I'm impressed with this product. Because of the shape of my upper lip and my habit of pressing my lips together, no liner has ever worked at keeping my lipstick (of any formulation) in place. I tried this with Ruby Woo today, and I can't believe it but my lipstick has not moved. Because my lips get dry easily, after 3 hours, my lips feel kinda parched. However, Ruby Woo has turned into a beautiful stain as opposed to a migrating mess! My lips love this product: it is most certainly NOT just another lip balm. It truly makes color stay! One coat seems to be enough: with more, the color of my lipstick gets diluted. I also like the packaging: the narrow slanted stick is the perfect shape and size to fill in my lips accurately and easily. Make sure your lips are in the best condition possible before you put this stuff on: it is not conditioning or hydrating. It is also not drying.

I had very low expectations with this one. I did not really expect to do anything other than maybe make my lined lips appear even worse. I bought it because I desperately needed something to help me apply the red MAC Matte lipsticks and I bought this on sale. Well, I honestly think I can never be without this one now. It makes the matte lipsticks application go so much smoother and easier and actually prevents my lips from drying up. I love this, I really do!

this is actually quite a nice product.,it feels good, smells okay and seems to do what it promises. however, i find it annoying to add an extra step to my routine, i prefer just applying my lipstick or lipgloss directly to my lips to save time and effort. to me it is just not worth the extra step. i will however use up the one i have now.

Exactly enough moist for my lip before applying lip color. My lip is too dry to use any long lasting lip color. This lip primer is the best solution to keep my moist lip color more long lasting without normal long lasting but very dry lip color.

Great product !! I was skeptical buying it but definatly worth trying out! My lips get really dry especially in the cold winter and this primer helps lipstick go on without the peely dry lips look. Like others have said- apply, wait for a few minutes for it to get tacky & then apply lipstick. And definatly makes lipstick last longer than without it!!

YES! Must have for any matte lipstick wearer. Makes wearing a usually dry matte lip color very comfortable in addition to making it last. Works well with normal lipstick also. Like other reviewers have said allow the product to go slightly tacky on your lips before applying the lipstick or else it WILL just be a glorified lip balm & won't grab onto the lipstick.
My only dislike about this product is the packaging the 3rd time i went to use it the entire cylinder of product just slipped out! Luckily i caught it before it fell onto anything and none of it was wasted but watch out for that.

Can't wear lipstick without this product, and I suggest it to everyone I know!
I've tried lip balms and chapsticks and none of them do what the lip primer does for me. I have extremely chapped lips most of the time, because I wear lipsticks all day at work. After the lip primer - problem solved!
It moisturizes my lips and helps my lipliner go on smoothly, my lipstick last longer and keeps color from bleeding out around my lips. No more dry, chapped lips for me!
I will always repurchase this.

This is officially the first product I have bought based 100% solely on MUA reviews! I noticed a lot of reviews hated it and called it an "expensive chapstick" or "just another waxy lip product--waste of money," while other reviews stated, "Those who don't like this product are not using it correctly." Woooo! CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
So with that out of the way, let me first give you a little personal background before explaining the product: I collect MAC LE lipsticks. I love Lipsticks by a few other manufacturers, too, but I'm absolutely addicted to MAC lippes most of all. Excluding all Lime Crime, Estee Lauder, and other lippies, and excluding all the glosses I own, I probably collected up over 50 MAC lipsticks this past 9 months alone. I have rather full lips, not many lines on my lips, and 1 deep cleft in the center of my bottom lip which is always problematic. It first collects product, then becomes the one spot with NO pigment left. I have had the worst time ever with all Amplified Cremes more than any other lip product! The wind up uneven, smeared, and bunched up in my cleft. I literally NEVER wear lipsticks I love, like Watch Me Simmer or A Perfect Day, to name but 2. And then I read these reviews, and focused on the positive reviews that state the negatives "are not using it properly" (and instructions for proper use are given over and over in here), and so I bought the product. Lip pencils aren't helping, my MAC Pro Lip Erase isn't helping, OMG!!! SOMETHING HAS TO HELP!!?!
PREP + PRIME LIP HELPS!!! OmG... more than helps--it solved the problem entirely! I applied, and at first I could totally see how one would mistake this as a "moisturizing lip balm" because that's all it feels like when you first put it on. It visibly smooths out the lips, though! Nicely, too. I parted my lips and left the product on about 30 seconds.... press lips together, and I feel a little bit of tackiness... leave on over a minute? Press lips together and now they're REALLY sticky. This is no lip balm, that's for sure. I tried Perfect Day first, and it went on smoothly and evenly, and I had NO issues of it smearing, bunching, smudging, or getting funky if I pressed my lips together. NONE. All previous issues be damned! I can finally wear this lipstick! YESSSSSSSS.... I then tested it out on Salute! and a few others. Then I extended my testing to my Mattenes (2011 promo), and WOW. Just wow. Colors I love that have previously just wiped off easily, or worn bald where my lips meet are now adhered to my lips beautifully! The pigmentation of my lipsticks is stronger than ever, and perfectly placed. I tried this with Lipglass, and the results were not as impressive, but there was some improvement. I tried this with a variety of different finishes and even other brands (not everything has to be MAC, right?) and over and over I got the same happy results: a perfect, smooth application with perfect pigmentation and an almost totally budgeproof finish.
I will absolutely be buying this again. In fact, I suspect I'll be investing in this a lot since I'm such a lippie junkie. I can't promise everyone who tries this product will love it like I do, but for me? This is 100% a "necessary" product! Just as I would not put on eyeshadow without a descent primer like Too Faced Shadow Insurance, I'll never wear a lip product without THIS from now on. In my little world, this is the greatest invention ever! LOVE LOVE LOVE!

I will not wear matt lipstick without this product. It takes care of all the issues that arise from matt lipstick. No more peeling, dry lips. First i put on my carmax, then when thats soaked in , i pat off the excess carmax and apply the lip primer. Here's the trick, you need to wait a few mins for the primer to get a little tacky. Then you apply you lip color. I will certainly keep this product in my kit at all times.

I can't believe I wasted my money on this. It's like an ordinary, waxy lip balm, nothing more. Yes, it smells nice and feels smooth on my lips, but there's just no reason I'd want to pay this much for a nice smelling lip balm. The packaging is flimsy and broke in about two days so it's a little difficult to get the product out.
I like to keep this at the bottom of my drawer because I never need it and seeing it just makes me feel bad about the money I wasted.

I bought this to smooth out my lips before applying matte lipstick and once again I got burned by a MAC lip product. I'll never learn, will I?
It does smooth out the lips and provides a nice base for lipcolor but ...
1) It dried out my lips so much that it's not worth it
2) It broke off while I was applying it. No, I did not have too much of the product twisted up outside of the tube and no, I was not pushing down hard on it. It just broke.

this stuff works well to help your bright color lipstick to stay on! it moisturize your lips but not as over moisturizing it. it gives you enough moisture to have your lipsticks stay on!
