I bought this to use as a think eyeliner, I ended up not really liking it that way, however I found a really great use for it....I use the gel eyeliner on my water line and then put this crayon/pencil over the top of it an it stays so much better. It's a cheap product I def will keep around

I think this is a must-have for smokey eye looks. It's a great base for black shadows especially - helps them POP. I always apply UDPP before putting this on to help prevent creasing. The downside to this is that it can smudge everywhere and get messy because of the creaminess. I always have my concealer handy when I use this. I first dab the pencil onto my eyelid. Then I use a dome brush to spread and even it out. After this, I use a blending brush to smooth out the edges and a concealer to define them. Now I can continue apply the rest of my shadows. It takes a little bit of work, but the end result is always fabulous. I think this is a great product overall.

I have about a million and one uses for this pencil, so im suprised a lot of people hate it or cant find uses for it. First of yes u need a primer but... I put a primer under everything that goes on my eyes! Anyway the main way I use this is as a base under any eyeshadow that I want to give an extra layer of depth or smokiness to. Seriously play with this color on your hand put a sparkly pink, or a matte lime green or an ocean blue over it and you will see what im talking about. I also use this as an eyeline, not straight from the pencil because it is jumbo, so I use an angled eyeliner brush. And last but not least I use this as a very rock and roll dont give a sh*t smokey eye. Yes I still use a primer but this pencil has a nice sheen to it that looks lovely for that look and while I dont find too many issues with creasing whatever creasing I do get just fits into that look perfectly and all I do is layer and smudge, layer smudge and layer and smudge again, take the pencil and go underneath the eye and smudge that add falsies and voila glam rock in 5 min. Explore your options with the tools you have ladies, you may just find you love a product you once hated or that everyone else hates. Good luck!

OBSESSED! I got this product for a base for a black classic smokey and it's perfect. It's soo easy to blend. It has a great color and build able color. It also keeps shadows going over it on all day so great base. And really shows off the colors used with it. I in love.

Quick smokey eye must have
Price: $7 CAD
Colour: soft black
Finish: crème
Pigmentation: full
Texture: buttery
So for a super quick and easy smokey eye, I apply this along my top and bottom lashline, smudge them out with fingers, top it with silver e/s and put dark grey in the crease.

I LOVE this pencil for my water line!! I was previously using the regular NYX eyeliner pencil but sometimes my eyelids wouldn't grasp the color. I don't know how to explain it but I would have patches on some areas where the liner wouldn't stay and no matter how many times I would go over it I couldn't fix it.. Well I don't have that problem anymore now that I switched to this pencil. I love it for that and it lasts a long time on my waterline, it doesn't run down as quick as other I've tried. I just wish it was in a regular pencil form but other than that it's great!

My makeup routine would not be complete without NYX Black Bean. I use this product every single day. This is what I use for eyeliner. I apply a L'oreal pencil first, then I use this on my water line. It literally lasts all day long. I could not make it without this product! Better than any eyeliner out there.

Great base for smokey eyes - it never creased on me.
I sometimes use it as eyeliner on top of which I apply an eyeshadow.
Not a big fan of the packaging, as it tends to get messy, but that's not a big problem.
Would buy again.

Good base for smokey eyes, but it creases on me unless I wear the Urban Decay Primer Potion underneath and apply a thin layer of the jumbo eye pencil on top. By thin, I really do mean thin! Too thick and even set with shadow on top, it will crease sometimes. Very pigmented and has a matte finish. Good universal shade for many smokey eye looks.

I use this as a base for smokey eyes! (especially for NYX's smokey eyes palette.) I love it. It doesn't crease on me when I use TFSI primer. I don't think I've used it without first applying a primer. I would buy again!

I dislike this, I would not buy it again - but the price is OK and the packaging is nice. More than anything I need to find a key use for it as I do not like it as a base for smokey looks and don't like how thick it feels on my eyelids.

I'm rating this product a 4 because while it doesn't really do what it was made to very well, it is a great product that I find indispensable for dark eye looks. If I didn't use it so much, I would probably give it a 2.
This product reminds me a bit of the MUFE flash color palette due to it's greasy/creamy feel, maybe softer even. For an actual pencil liner in black, I prefer MAC "smolder" and use it in conjunction with the NYX jumbo pencil as a base. I always use MAC paint pots as a primer, and I haven't noticed any problems when applied to it. Typically, I just apply this pencil to the lid, just up to the crease, but not into it. My main goal is just to darken the black shadow I add on top, and I've never had a problem getting black shadow to look dark in the crease (so I don't see any point in putting it there). Usually, I apply MUFE black shadow or NARS "night breed" bringing it through the crease and over the top of the eye pencil on the lid. In the case of the NARS in particular (which by itself is not a very notable eyeshadow), it just makes it pop and adds a slight dewy look that I feel compliments the light glitter.
Pros:
Makes an excellent base black. Extremely creamy and pigmented. Applies very rapidly when time is an issue (as compared to using a gel liner and brush). Seems to last well as I use it, but can't comment on other uses.
Cons:
This product would not likely blend well. It's too messy to be used solo and will get on everything it touches. It's not easy to use because of the difficulty sharpening and the mess left after.
There is a lot of waste using these pencils every time you sharpen them, so melting them into a pot would make them a better value, but the pencil format is very handy and the finished look has that dewy appearance that I haven't seen from anything else. A trick to these pencils and the NYX jumbo lip pencils is to freeze them prior to sharpening. Of course, you need to plan ahead for that to work out and it's not realistic if you are on the go. Usually, I freeze them overnight and sharpen them in the morning, giving them time to thaw before I need them.

this product is a total fail for me. i love cream shadows, and i wanted to use this as a base with other shadows to create some sexy dark smokey eyes, but this crease like crazy. i even trid UDPP or other bases, but it just creases, creases and creases.

i like to put this over too faced shadow insurance and blending it upward to use as a base for some of my eyeshadows with shift or are duochrome. it works really well for that. i do find it hard to blend without making a mess but once its cleaned up, it does the job nicely. i wanna try this in "milk"

I use this over primer potion as an eyeshadow base for smokey eyes. It's very creamy and blends well. Sharpening is a pain. The tip smeared when I put the plastic cover on, so becareful. Def wanna purchase other colors. I also have "milk"

Although I like this pencil I would not buy it again. The best way to use this product is to wear it under an eyeshadow, and over an eyeshadow primer otherwise it creases like crazy, no joke. This pencil is not good to use on it's own even if you are going for a goth look because it WILL crease and bleed all over your eyeballs. You have to "set" it with a black shadow, or whatever shadow you wish to use. I saw a girl using it on youtube and it looked so pretty, but then when I tried it at home it was....well, a disaster. I'm keeping mine only because I like to do a dark eye once in a blue moon.

I tried using this as like an eyeliner/ shadow but it smeared so badly. I ended up using it as a shadow base instead. Worked well for that purpose

I wanted to try Black Bean after numerous bloggers suggested it as a black base for eyeshadow.
Now, this is a cream product, and as far as it goes for me, it will crease. That's not the main issue. the main problem is that it is hard to blend, hard to work with, and hard to get off. The blending takes a while, and usually it ends up muddy and uneven. I don't usually encounter this with other products, so im pretty sure its not my brushes.
As far as price, yes, it is much cheaper than HE or ME products...but at Ulta this is still nearly $5...which for a product that doesn't work for me...is still high.

I love the NYX Jumbo Pencils. I have Black Bean and Milk and theyre both great to use as a base. They really make your eyeshadows pop. Black bean is very creamy and easy apply. Also very pigmented. The Jumbo Pencils are very inexpensive, i believe 4.99 at Ulta or around that price range. I will however, recommend you use a primer before hand, because creasing will definetly occur lol. But yea, other than that, theyre a great buy. :)

I wish I could love the jumbo pencils, but I can’t. These things crease on me so bad! I’ve tried them over multiple primers and I’ve always used them as bases for regular eye shadows, but they always seem to crease. I have French fries, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, strawberry milk and black bean. The only one I have really had success with was black bean when I used it as a base to deepen my outer v. I love the selection of colors and the price, so it’s too bad that these don’t work for me :(
