I am pale and would consider myself an expert fake tanner. Rushed out to buy this when it first came out on the market. Never bought it since because it is so sticky. The smell is usually the dealbreaker for me, this was not the worst.

It doesn't streak if you rub in well and gives a really nice even golden tan after using for a couple of days. Worth noting that I already have light olive skin so I'm not sure what it would be like on pale skin. Very moisturising, not too greasy but takes a while to sink in. Gave it a 3 because of the smell. It's awful, and it lingers on the skin, you'll smell it all day. The person who said it smells of playdough was so right! Great product if you can get past the smell, which I can't, therefore I won't be repurchasing!

Not bad, but I think it would work for people who are more tan to begin with. I'm around NC25 and used this after exfoliating. I got a nice subtle glow after the first 3-4 days using it, but as I continued with it, I noticed how orange I was looking, so I have to be cautious with how much and how often I apply. Doesn't streak if you exfoliate properly.

I have used Johnson's Holiday skin a couple times and found it so so. I've learned with this self tanner you absolutely MUST EXFOLIATE!!!! I only self tan on my legs to match my arms, decolletage, and back. So if my routine helps anyone for this ST here it is:

exfoliate on dry legs paying close attention to my knees and ankles.

I use shave gel for sensitive skin and then shave with a good quality razer.

When applying Holiday Skin tanner, I focus on the area of leg between my knees and ankles, rubbing in circular motions. Then with whatever is left on my hands, I swipe gently over my knees, ankles, upper foot, and toes.

Allow to dry for 30-40 minutes (downside to this product).

And yes, I go through this routine everyday or every other day. I have very dry skin on my legs so I find exfoliating then moistourising with this product really helps me. I like the colour it gives my legs, to me it is a nice natural light brownish colour. BUT if you stop using it then and the colour is fading, it's not very nice to look at. Isn't that with all tanners though??

The smell is not as bad as everyone on here is saying either!!!

I used this all the time in University. I didn't want to do tanning beds anymore (fear of skin damage) so my flatmate was using it. And I started. I'm naturally pale...even tho I am Greek. I got my grandmother's genes....skin as white as snow!!!

I say this is the healthiest glow I've ever gotten from a fake tanner. Other fake tanners make my face look dirty. And i had a fear of looking orange.

It's a decent tint I would say...the misture is white in the bottle which is why its only a tint. If you expect to wear this for a night on the town and be a bronzed goddess....I hate to disappoint you. This needs to be used for at least 3 or four days. It is buildable. If I put this on every day for four days it is noticable that I have changed colour. Especially on my stomach. My falt mate would always say "omg i'm so jealous..." if she saw how tanned my stomach was.

It doesn't dry fast so never use in the morning it will tint your clothes! I normally used this at night after I've showered. I would put it on and sit for about 30 to 40 mins in my knickers only or a towel. It was never streaky on my arms or legs. It worked into my skin easily. I didn't find it clumpy, it went on very light and it didn't feel greasy. My skin felt really soft in the morning. If you wait 30mins it won't transfer onto clothes. I never had it tint any of my underwears or bras....so if anyone had that happened they clearly didn't wait long enough before putting on their clothes.

I like the smell personally. But that's just me. I found it beachy...by the morning I couldn't smell it.

PS. Wash your hands after use....it will look odd between your fingers if you don't.

This was quite obviously orange on my skin (light to medium skin tone with yellow undertones). But worst of all was the smell which was quite unbearably fake tannish.

Used this once for a couple of weeks; never touched it again.
The reason is this: I used it every night after showering or before bed. The next day I'd wake up, put on my clothes, get my cream summer bag and get out in the heat. The result, I ruined an awesome bag and a couple of light colored bras and tops. I literally sweated this out of my pores, and I'm not even one of the people who have the tendency to sweat heavily. I'm talking brown sweat stains on the handles of my bag, the lining of my bra, my top straps...Absolutely disgusting to say the least. And the funny part; I used the fair version. The icing on the cake, if you don't like the characteristic self tanner smell, to you this will most probably stink.
Well, you get the picture. In my experience, this is unbelievably, dangerously bad.

I bought this when I was simply looking for a cheap self tanner. Honestly, I am a little surprised just how negative these reviews are. This is one of the better fake tans I have used, however its not amazing. It gives a good colour, but I found that on about day 4 when I woke up I found my legs changed from a nice brown glow to orange. Generally this is ok, I only use it occasionally to just brighten my skin as its normally pretty dull and white.

I bought this last summer as I was looking for a cheap tanner that would make my pale-ish white legs match the lightly tanned colour of my arms. It took 3 days for it to build the colour I wanted, and whilst it was not streaky, (the fact that it's a gradual tanner makes it easier to get an even colour as you can see after each day which bits you've put less tanner on and focus on these bits a little more) it does wash off a bit too easily, and can start going a bit patchy.
The colour isn't orange so long as you don't build it up too much, and the smell isn't too bad (it fades after a couple of hours so isn't something that would put me off repurchasing if the finish was and tan duration was good) however I found myself going through half the bottle in the space of a week.
Overall, for £2.50 it was good, however if I was to buy another tanning lotion I would go for the St. Tropez original concentrated formula, and blend with moisturiser for a customisable shade.
This isn't as cheap as it looks as you do need to use it for a few days to get a tan colour.

I am surprised by the negative reviews of this product. I like the self tan products that act like a lotion and do things gradually....this is the first one I've tried that didn't smell or streak.....or rub off if I scratched my skin.
I only use self tanner on my legs below the knee....so I look better in my dresses/capri's etc. The other self tanners that I tried smelled bad and felt drying to my skin (Jergens foam one for example) although I would have purchased Jergens again IF I hadn't tried this one. I will keep buying Holiday Skin.

I used this for a week or so when I was going through a phase of self-tanning last summer, and this is really bad. It takes forever to dry; I remember standing around once for over 45 minutes waiting to go to bed and it still hadn't completely dried, leaves horrible orange stains everywhere, smells weird and biscuity, leaves a cheap looking, orange colour and streaks. It doesn't seem to make a difference how much you exfoliate, shave, moisturise etc, it will invariably find some way to streak anyway. I would never buy this again. I used Dove for a while and it is better, though still not incredible. If I ever decided to use self-tanner again, I would probably just buy St Tropez and save myself all these problems.

Really didn't like this product. There had been a lot of hype over it so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Firstly it doesn't absorb well, so when I applied it at night I had to go to bed feeling all slimy...ewwww! Then in the morning I found it had left me quite streaky. And to add to this it didn't have a nice smell. I gave the bottle to my sister who actually quite likes it....so maybe its just me??

Will stick to my Ambre Solaire moisturiser with a hint of fake tan in future!

I love this self-tanner. It's the best one I've found. I would buy it again in a minute if I could find it in the U.S.! It seems they don't sell it here, only in Europe and/or Australia. I actually bought it while in Israel (they have lots of imported European products there.). I never had a self-tanner leave me with such a natural tan, got lots of compliments, and the smell wasn't terrible either. I think it may have even left my skin more moisturized in fact.

I bought it in UK on offer and have been using it for 7 days now and see no change! Maybe just i tat. I have very fair skin and bought the fair/medium version. What's up? Where is my tan??? It does smell like that fake tan ingredient, but very slightly compared to the proper No7 spray tan, which has strong colour. It does moisturise, but I'd say it takes a lot of product to cover my whole body. It dries relatively quick, but the lack of colour after too many application just left me wondering if I got a bad batch (it's not expired) or I don't know what. Everyone here seems to see the results. Will try Nivea or Dove next.

I generally like using Johnsons products, so I had high hopes for this moisturiser when I purchased it a few years ago. However, instead of gradually becoming tanner, the product made my skin turn more orange/brown rather than golden brown :-S

Furthermore, the smell is not appealing at all, so I used to apply the moisturiser only when I knew that I'd be staying at home for a few hours; that way, I could build up some slight colour on my skin and shower off before going out.

Also, when the gradual orange/brown tan started to fade, it faded in patches, so I'd have faint brown spots left after the rest of the tan had gone.

Verdict - I give it 3/10. Don't settle for this smelly orange tan ~ there are much better ones out there!

This is one of the worst self tanning products I've used... It takes a few days to build up a colour (I'm a NC30 when I'm not tanned) and the orange factor is definitely high!!! Also it fades very poorly, comes on in patches and makes me look like I have some skin disease :((( Very disappointed...........

Given that I've only been fake tanning about 5 months and have bought this product 5+ times, it's perhaps a surprise to hear that I think very little of it. My biggest problem is that it starts peeling off soon after application (like dry skin would, if I had dry skin) thus ruining any chance of an even, natural looking tan. It's also rather unattractive. However, I'll probably continue to buy it, simply because it's available in a number of shops for just £1.
