I got this as a freebie for my birthday but I only got to choose a scent, not a color. I chose this light, clean scent for it and used it a few times. It might as well be Suave. It does nothing to condition my hair. I don't get it. My hair tends to misbehave when I use this stuff. I'm a huge fan of the Black Malva though, which I will continue to use.

I had this made up at an Aveda salon to refresh my red. I liked that it didn't have a lot of heavy silicones in it, and at first glance, the ingredients looked like a fairly moisturizing formula. It was actually a bit drying though, or at least that's how it felt after I rinsed it out. But the color deposit was really really good. It's hard to find color depositing products in copper, and it was nice to get this one made up for my color. The one I have is two parts copper color to one part gold. Color depositing products for red hair are often on the cool toned side so this one really did a nice job to refresh my copper. I also have strawberry blonde highlights and it did a nice job on those too, so I think my formulation would work well for light to medium copper hair.
I actually don't like the Aveda scents at all, so if you're like me, you can get it formulated with no scent at all.

I make a conditioner with 2 squirts of light copper colour and 1 of gold. This works really well on my hair. For years I've been lightening my auburn hair to a medium copper blonde and now I'm growing out the roots. I put this on my dry roots for 20 min to an hour and it gives it a beautiful copper colour. Be careful because this stuff adds a lot of colour and can grab at porus hair. The conditioning benefits are not so great, but I use this as a colour. The scent I put in it is rose.

I have a mix with a diluted Black Malva. Of course, the scent is heavenly since I picked it. It works well, but I'm not happy with the consistency of the shampoo.

I don't know if this is common among the personal blends or just mine, but the consistency is too watery. It runs all over my hands, and with the color deposit that means that it gets wasted before I can catch it and I end up with a stained tub.

My personal blend conditioner is made with Red & Violet with Fire #3 as the scent, overall I am VERY impressed with these personal blends, I leave the conditioner on for 5-10 minutes and rinse out to shiny, conditioned, vibrant hair. Will definately purchase again.

Oh how I wanted to love this product- and I did - at first. I think as far as color depositing goes- this stuff is great. As a conditioner- its aweful. My hair felt like straw when I used this- which is such a shame. I really do think for 18 bucks a bottle- I shouldnt need a second conditioner. Sadly- I bought 3 bottles of this because the closest aveda store to my home (that does the personal blends) is over an hour away.... ;( So I will be using them up- but wont re-purchase.


There are some good pro's to this product- they will make a shade to match (as closely as possible) to your color- which is really great- I have a friend who alternates between candy apple red & violet hair. She uses these because its oneof the only lines out there that makes a color dep in violet- or candy apple red. For that its great.

For more mainstream colors- I think there are better ones on the market. I prefer the Goldwell line- I use the "treatment" from this line- and I use it like a conditioner- it works beautifully- and I dont need a second conditioner with it.

Personal blends conditioner is available at Aveda stores. You can pick two colors and a scent to get customized conditioner. I chose red and light copper to be mixed in 2:1 ratio with water nature scent -which smells just like Shampure shampoo and conditioner.

Texture is very light, so it doesn't weigh hair down. Unlike other color deposit conditioner, it can be used daily and lightly conditions hair. It really keeps my dyed red hair vibrant even a month after I dyed it.

Amazing. I love this conditioner so much. I want to marry mine.
