This cleanser has an amazing smell, love the packaging. All of La Mer products come in beautiful bottles/containers. This takes make up off completely, use it with my clarisonic brush, leaves the skin feeling moisturized and clean. I am very acne prone and have dry skin, this does not break me out, is gentle enough to use twice a day without skin becoming dry. Price is a bit high, but quality is high as well. My only complaint is that it doesn't really help clear skin, just helps it not get any worse.

I had tremendously bad skin in my teens -- I was on roaccutane for a year. Since then, my already sensitive skin has become even more finicky. It's clear, but extremely prone to dryness. Consequently I find this cleanser to be somewhat drying. However, it is extremely gentle, and removes makeup like a charm. I use it before using my Clarisonic brush, and there's never any residual makeup on the brush head. It's fairly expensive for a cleanser, but ultimately it's saved me money as I no longer purchase makeup remover.
There's a strong perfume-y scent, which doesn't bother me, but may be off-putting to some.

I review this product (and others) from the perspective of a woman who once had the ability to purchase anything but now must economize. While in the former category I LOVED this. It's one of the best (if not THE best) cleansers I've ever used for combination skin. It doesn't over-dry yet it thoroughly cleanses all skin types and leaves skin feeling fresh, super-clean and tingly...yet somehow soothed. Most cleansers only succeed in one of these areas and fail at the rest. Maybe it was just all in my head (at least that's what I keep telling myself) because now I really love Neutrogena's Oil-Free and redness soothing Acne Wash for an under ten-dollar substitute.

I had a sample of this and really liked it. Removes my make-up and leaves my face squeaky clean but not dried out.I give it 4 stars because of the price.
I may purchase it....
UPDATE: ended up purchasing and returning it too...
Dried out my face really bad and broke out too. I am not sure if it was because of the strong fragrance or ...what happened...

Very nice gel! It smells nice, it leaves my skin bright, clean and healthy. Although it dries my skin a bit, I will continue using it until I finish it . I'm still thinking if to repurchase.

I think La Mer in general is "hype"...I actually think the cleanser would be pretty nice except for the super duper strong fragrance. Not so much evident when in bottle.. not until you rub it in your hands and put it on your face. Then it's like a cheap man's cologne- strong and metallic. Makes eyes sting and itch as other reviewers have mentioned.. I think is likely the fragrance.
I used this for 5-7 days. At first it really did make my skin look nice- glowing. After about 3-4 days I noticed my skin felt sunburnt.. another day and it was itchy and sunburnt feeling.. then I developed welts.
I called the company and complained about the strong fragrance (why??????) since they tout themselves as having been developed to help heal burn victims, and it seemed highly incongruent to have added this strong fragrance which would irritate intact skin, let alone damaged skin....anyway.. company said the only original product is the creme de la mer, and the rest of the line was just developed as a simple cosmetic line (but...why the high price tags then?)
Anyway- I think the cleanser would be a nice product if they developed an unscented alternative. Until then... I returned it for a refund.
fyi I have oily to combination skin, but it is also fairly sensitive. I need a cleanser that is oil free, somewhat clarifying but also gentle.. and I guess fragrance free!!! (or low levels of fragrance- this stuff is awful).

My HG oil cleanser that I was using for 4 years started to break me out so I need a cleanser that wouldn't dry out my skin. My skin is extremely oily and acne prone. This cleanser does an amazing job with removing my makeup and does not irritate my existing acne. It is on the expensive end. If you are on the edge go to your nearest la mer countrer and ask for a sample before you purchase the full size.

This cleanser removes my makeup and eye makeup effectively, I don't need eye makeup remover at all for waterproof mascara! The scent is subtle and just feels good on my skin.

I got a deluxe sample of this with a GWP. It's a fabulous cleanser. It's effective but not too drying and it smells wonderful. It's very expensive for a cleanser but practically a bargain by la mer standards. Likey!

I bought the cleansing gel, toner for oily skin, oil-absorbing lotion, la mer gel cream and the radiant infusion. Made me break-out and have shiny, oily skin that would make my Bare Escentuals make-up slide of my skin in a couple of hours.

This is my HG cleanser. This removes everything including waterproof mascara without overdrying my skin. I use one pump in the morning, and two pumps at night. I wish it was unscented but the scent is not overpowering and is pleasant. Never breaks me out or irritates my skin. The best!!!

This is my newest obsession. This cleanser leaves my skin literally glowing after I am done. It will remove eye makeup fairly well. The scent is perfumy, like ocean mixed with old perfume, but that doesn't bother me at all. It does sting my eyes like crazy if by accident some of the product should come in contact with them while washing. You only need 2 pumps at night if you are wearing makeup and just one in the morning. This cleanser produces a really nice cushy foam which did't strip my skin or make it feel tight. If it weren't so expensive I would buy it again. Maybe if I use green dye and add that type of fragrance to a clear gel drugstore cleanser my face will think I am using La Mer and glow. :)

Being a guy in my 30's, I have combination skin where it tends to get oily especially after a long day at work. With just 2 pumps, the cleanser cleans my face washing away all the excess oil. The smell is a bit strong at first, after a few days I am getting used to it and actually loved the clean, green scent :)
After wash, the face will never feel dry. A good product for those with combination / oily skin.

Good points about this cleanser: Lasts a long time, a small pea-size amount lathers up quite nicely, noticed a "glow" about my face after a few weeks of use, didn't suffer many breakouts while using it.
Bad points about this cleanser: Doesn't give me the "clean" feeling - it is probably just a feeling, but I guess it might be related to the texture or the type of lather that is created. My previous cleanser was more foaming and that was better for me, imo. My biggest peeve is that whenever it gets anywhere near my eyes, they start burning and swelling up - I have extremely sensitive eyes. That along with the price is the reason I probably won't repurchase this cleanser.

This was an interesting cleanser. I have come to find out that I just do not like cleansing gels. They clean my skin fine, but it seems that they leave a film on my face. This one was no different. I did like the smell, it was nice! And it foamed up really well with only one small pump. So this will last you a very long time... like 6 months Im thinking. Nice packaging. And if you like cleansing gels, then this just may be worth $65. It was nice, not horrible. But I'm just going to steer clear of cleansing gels from now on... I just don't feel very clean from them. But if you want a loing lasting cleanser for oily or acne prone skin, with a nice smell, and a VERY bountiful foam with a VERY small amount of cleanser needed for each application, then this is for you. I gave it to a friend who would appreciate it more than me.
