Wow, there are some wildly different opinions of this one. I thought it was an interesting and dark vetiver. The leathery/ tobacco note makes it "dirty," not at all fresh and breezy. It's very masculine, so I probably wouldn't wear it alone, but it would be fun to layer. I actually prefer this to the dry, hay-like Guerlain Vetiver. But... I'm from Jersey, so maybe I'm just used to a little toxic sludge in my grasses. :)

Egad. I didn't know you could do this to vetiver. Isn't it the State Plant or National Ecological Heritage Treasure of someplace-or-other, which would protect it from being manhandled in such a shocking way? Good heavens. A nauseating, muddy opening in which vetiver is buried under sludgy drifts of stale medicinal sage, caraway, celery seed--it literally turned my stomach. I tried so, so hard not to wash it off,to wait for the drydown in the interests of a fair, well-balanced review. But I just couldn't do it. First, it was making me iller by the minute; and second... wait a minute, I NEVER write fair & well-balanced reviews! What was I thinking? Off my skin and down the drain with this, and quickly! In sum it's a queasy green mess. Yes, okay, I would clean it up off the carpet if the dog threw it up--but don't ask me to be happy about it, and don't ask me to pay $60 for the privilege.

Take one vat of generic curry powder. Add extra fenugreek and cumin. Blend with very cheap soap. Smear onto skin. Voila, no need to spend £48 on Etro Vetiver. Now clearly this is subjective because none of those notes are listed in the review below. And it does improve a bit after about 20 minutes, in as much as I can now smell a little vetiver through the wafts of spice. But with so many great, fresh vetivers about, I can't see any need to sit through the top notes of this one to enjoy my favourite grass.

I'm not a huge fan of vetiver-dominant fragrances, but this is quite lovely. It's woody, grassy, and herbal in a refreshing way. Like the previous reviewer said, this smells exactly like the outdoors in a mountainous region (it reminds me specifically of Vermont in the summer). I find this fragrance to be perfectly unisex, equally beautiful on a man or a woman. A must-try for vetiver fans.

Vetiver
by Etro is a calm and relaxing, warm and creamy vetiver fragrance
with a perfect blend of intoxicating outdoor notes. This is one of
the best vetiver fragrances I've tried. It smells like fresh sawdust
and a field of tall aromatic grasses. Wow, this one must be
overlooked by many because I never hear mention of it and I am just
loving it! This is the closest fragrance I've found to camping up in
the mountains -- freshly chopped wood, camp fire smoke, rock lichens,
dewy grasses and wild flowers. I think this one just surpassed
Miller Harris Terre de Bois as my new summertime favorite. I was
completely blown away by it.
