This is my number one favorite go-to lip product ever. I wear it almost every single day. I originally purchased it solely because of the beautiful color. It is a color that works year round which I love, and you can build it up from a medium berry color to a pretty deep berry color (not really vampy at all, still acceptable for an everyday lip color). The color works year round because in spring and summer, you have that nice stand outish pink lip color, but in winter and fall you can get that deep berry color which I love. Now after owning this for a few months, I am completely in love with the formula and texture. It is the only lipstick I have found that feels "perfect" on my lips. No clumping, drying, feathering, and it stays put. It feels very light and nice on my lips. After wearing it for a whole day it will fade a little bit but only on the inner part of your lips. It creates a bit of an ombre look actually, which I happen to not mind :) Better then looking patchy due to fading! The texture of this stuff alone makes me want to purchase every single color and never buy any other brand of lipstick again. It's a little pricey, but worth it. And did I mention how much I adore matte lips? Perfect!

I do really like this pencil, I love the color, I like the consistency, I like how it doesn't waste a lot of product when sharpening.
BUT the one thing that stops it from being amazing in my book is it fades unevenly on my mouth.... Perhaps this is a matte lipstick thing? I don't know. but it def fades the inner lip part long before the outer portion which just looks strange. I haven't found any flaking from this l/s but I have had it from other matte or longwear l/s. I do kinda want to try another color like a MLBB. let's see....

I love the name I feel like a vampire when I wear this. For starters it is a lipstick or can be a liner but it more lipstick than anything else. I love the finish it gives a very matte look but it is so velvety smooth. Hence the name. This is a soft plummy wine tone that is not super pigmented. But more coats will give the desired effect.
This needs to be sharpened with a good sharpener, or else product will be wasted. Packaging is pretty basic. Wish it was an auto pencil that way I wont be bothered with sharpening. It is slightly drying, but a light balm under will work.
For my NW48 tone, I pair it with MAC nightmoth liner for a 90's ombre effect. Gets tons of attention and gives a very vampy full lip look.

LOVE Damned! I wear it one of two ways: for a day look apply one light coat for a soft, stained lip.....its a very beautiful berry color that gives that just bitten look. For a night out you can make this lip very vampy, just apply two heavy coats! i like to apply a 3rd around the outer border of my lips as liner to add depth and dimension. If you're feeling super fancy try MAC plushglass in Oversexed overtop for a OHHH LA LA lip!

Love the color, love the formula, love the staying power.
Two quibbles:
1) the lid seems very loose. I keep the pencil in its box, because I can totally see the lid slipping off in my bag.
2) this is not a great color if you're teeth need whitening. Its a beautiful color, but after wearing it the first time, I went out and bought the Crest advanced white stripes. Now that my teeth are much, much whiter, it's a great color, but be warned. This is not a red that make your teeth whiter, much the opposite.

This is gorgeous. It doesnt go on super dark so you can deepen it to your liking. Add as much as you want because it wont get cakey. After the first swipe this is like a MLBB color. its like a berry pink. It looks like a deep magenta on me after three coats (like a purple with pink undertones-or like a muted fuchsia). i have fair medium skin with yellow undertones. The bottom review is right. It applies so smoothly and kinda looks like it's part of you (like alipstain) doesnt look like cake the way lipsticks tend to do. Very velvety feeling. It feels so light too. i dont really feel like im wearing anything on my lips. And kind of drying but nowhere near as bad as my MAC Ruby Woo. These have NO SHINE, and i find no need to blot. These do settle into the lines of your lips and flakes (i dunno what people are talking about when they say they dont) so just use a lip scrub beforehand if its really bad. I find if you dont eat anything greasy all day (and eat carefully) they do last you a few 4-8 hours. This color in particular doesnt make you look goth even though its in the purple family. And i think it would look gorgeous on very fair women as well as women of color.
I've never found a color like this before (specially one in the purple colors) that i liked. would def repurchase.

I love love love NARS lip pencils. First off, I should say that I ALWAYS apply a teeny bit of lipbalm to my lips before applying any kind of color. Just habit I guess.
Anyway, what I love about NARS pencils overall is the formulation. It is only somewhat creamy, but always very matte (which is the look I like). I like these because when you apply them, they can almost look more like a stain (but unlike those other 'lip stains', you don't have to deal with the dryness).
I like to apply a bit of the pencil color to my lips, and then I blend it in with the pad of a finger, blotting it and simultaneously smudging along the edges. Even when the actual 'lipstick' wears off, there still remains a bit of colored 'stain' on your lips.
It's very long lasting and gives your lips a very 'rich' type of color.
The ONLY downside is that I've found that, over time, the cover will start to loosen up or develop a crack along the side, and so sometime the cover will fall off in my makeup bag.
As for this color Damned, it gives me (caucasian) lips a sort of deep mauve color.
BONUS POINT!!! I just discovered that...you can also use this for cheek color! Today I forgot to put blush on so I thought 'what the heck...might as well give it a try?" And for those who know this pencil, it's like a thick cream. So I figured it would go on my cheek like a cream blush, and so it did! It almost acted like a cheek stain when I rubbed it in, which is similar to what I do for my lips as well. After applying this to my lips I smudge it with the pad of a finger.
So when you're in a pinch so to speak....;-) ...this can double as blush!

This shade had me obsessed. It got so bad that I was on Google looking at pictures or any video I could find. I saw it on Rachel Zoe as well as a Vogue intern, and came to a final decision to buy it. I had to have it. It's this unusual magenta berry, and the matte velvet texture makes it soft and comfortable. It's not for everyone, but if you love a chic and bold matte lip then it's for you. Lips have to be in excellent condition for a matte shade. That's the only con, besides the price. It's pricey for a lip pencil of this size. You just can't find NARS shades in other brands though. If anyone knows a dupe, please message me. I haven't found one in any other lip pencils, lipsticks, or lipstick pencils.

This lip pencil is perfect.
I absolutely love the color -- rich berry magenta. Can be very dramatic if that's what you like, but I like to sheer it out for a beautiful stain. (I just apply over a generous layer of balm and it almost does the work itself.) :D So great for fall.
The texture of the pencil is really smooth and easy to apply, but it can be sort of drying. I don't mind because the color is pretty long-lasting, and if you just use some balm or light gloss it's not uncomfortable to wear at all.
My favorite thing about this pencil is that it somehow feels very low maintenance. I don't know what it is about the pencil form, but for some reason I find it a lot easier to apply than a traditional lipstick. Maybe because I can also line with this? I'm not sure, but yet another reason to love it. <3
EDIT 10/13 -- had my first experience with the cap falling off in my bag :'c Thankfully the point didn't break off, but I did get little bits of the pencil on everything in that pocket. Have to make sure you really push the cap down, I guess.

I really love this red as I was looking for a red matte color that had blue undertones. I originally bought Red Lizard semi matte lipstick from Nars but it didnt have enough blue in it for me. So I bought this lined my lips first with Damned and then filled my lips with Red Lizard and I love the combo. Alone, damned is little to dark. But the combo of the two give me the color that I was going for.
Of course, Nars is expensive. I dont like pencils that I have to use a sharpener with. I prefer automatic. The packaging is fine.
I really like how smooth it goes on and the matte finish. Exactly what I was looking for. Good Job again Nars

i wanted to like this. i like how it swatched- deep cool-toned crimson- but on my pigmented lips it somehow transformed into fuschia/magenta-ness, which is not my thing. also i had a hard time getting the matte color to look ok- endless cycles of balm, blot, color, blot, balm, color, blot blot blot- but couldn't figure it out.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this color. I have been on a search for the perfect red lipstick and after 1 year of searching, I finally found one that doesn't make my lips look orange or too pink. This is the perfect shade for medium skin tones. Its creamy consistency isn't drying like most matte lipsticks. It actually keeps my lips moisturized. The color stays true the whole time. The packaging is great. I was a little hesitant to purchase b/c of the price, but I think it's great at $24 USD considering you don't have to purchase an additional lip pencil. It sharpens well and will definitely last a while. Nars, you got me hooked on Damned! I will definitely repurchase!

This is a Holy Grail product for me: a creamy berry red lipstick that is actually matte! So gorgeous. I remember Coty used to make a pencil like this, and while it was long-lasting, it wasn't actually matte. I had every color pretty much. I wish I could afford to buy every shade of the NARS version, but at $24 per, I can only allow myself one shade. For now, anyway. I just pray it won't be discontinued. Excellent product.

Well I'll be Damned!!! What a beautiful lipstick!!! I'm sorry ladies but i could not resist the play on words. Please forgive me if this was offensive to anyone. Damned is so gorgeous, stunning, sexy, sophisticated and a little vampy without being goth. This is one of my top 3 favorites of all 17 Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. Damned is a deep,rich,sultry,magenta/wine/berry. It reminds me of the fabulous Nars Scarlet Empress lipstick and also Mac's Diva. I have a ton of lipsticks in this family color range but Damned is still a must have. It is a good example of how we tend to repeat the same products that we like. However, It truly stands out and is superior because of the pigmented, high quality formula. I will for Damned sure repurchase!!! Sorry again.

I love the color, I love the texture, I love the packaging. It's easier to use than a skinny lip pencil so applying is more accurate for me. It's like a lip pencil and a lipstick all in one. This color lasts a pretty long time and stains the lips a little, kinda like a lip stain, lip pencil and lipstick. Would purchase again.

I LURVE this color. Its a fantastic magenta/red. I get so many compliments when I wear this. The velvet Matte pencils are great. When I use, I line around my lips first then fill in. I almost always top with a gloss. The texture of these pencils aren't like dry lip liners at all, but its like a lipstick in pencil form. I find that this color lasts a nice time and wear down is also a nice effect. In reading the other reviews, it seems I should try it with Sex Machine, an excuse to get another one of these FAB pencils! Pricey, yes but this color is so worth it.

Thank you, KarenCG! You Rock Girl! I took your advice! I wear the Damned, with the Sex Machine I love it, so pretty. I do use a lip brush, to blend the line.
As for Damned, I feel it has staying power, and is easy to apply. Plus it feels soft going on.
I'd buy this again, and if I lost it I'd cry. Then RUN out, and buy it.

This pencil is really just a big fat dry lipstick. I bought this after I got Sex Machine because of the texture. Although it seems to make my lips a little dry, it's the very reason why I'm buying it! Really red lipstick tends to bleed, and the matte texture of this pencil prevents it from bleeding and it really lasts! When my lips get too dry I just wipe off, apply lip balm and reapply. It's a great blue-toned red. And yes, a bit magenta!
Update Oct 4, 2011: I picked up a really good tip from YouTuber Lisa Eldridge that I've been using with dark and pigmented lip products. I apply a bit of product on the middle of the top and bottom lips and spread it with a finger. This warms up the product, spreads it more evenly on your lips and helps it wear longer.
