** URBAN DECAY PRODUCTS ARE TESTED ON ANIMALS **
Skin type: normal to dry but acne prone.
Desperately seeking a new HG foundation since I found out MAC test on animals after being bought out by Estee Lauder. For reference, I am MAC NC25 / NC30 - see my notepad for my colour matches to other brands.
EDITED TO ADD: Since Urban Decay announced they won't be selling their products in China, they've now been bought out by L'Oreal who do conduct animal testing. I have lowered my rating to reflect this.
My first purchase in trying to find the elusive HG was Liquid Surreal Skin in Supernova. Only to find out a week later that Urban Decay have decided they are going to expand their business to China who stipulate animal testing as mandatory. I'm very sad that I can no longer buy Urban Decay (although probably not as sad as the bunnies). Another high end, vegan makeup range bites the dust.
PREPARATION: As my skin is quite dry, I start by applying a facial oil (my own blend) on damp skin, followed by tinted moisturiser w/SPF & primer before applying foundation.
CONSISTENCY: Quite thin & not too oily for my skin type. I wasn't bothered by the (mild) smell which other commenters have mentioned.
QUALITY: I applied a thin layer with a foundation brush but wasn't satisfied with the coverage so applied another when the first had set. The colour match was closer to my actual skin colour than MAC SFF NC30. I liked the finish, something between softly matte & mildly dewey.
AFTER: a light dusting of finishing powder. I was pretty happy with the coverage overall but this product would perform better if used with a concealer. The staying power was inferior to MAC SFF.
RE-PURCHASE? Not unless Urban Decay show some respect for their original brand ethos which is to reject animal cruelty on the grounds that it is unnecessary and also despicable especially when carried out for the purpose of our vanity.

The color selection isn't great and neither is the coverage. This foundation is thin and oily.

I don't like this foundation at all! the lightest colour "illusion" is SOO yellow it's horrible! it's far to dark for me as well. It has such a horrible smell! I don't know if it's just mine but it's disgusting! I'm just thankful it was a gift and I didn't waste my money on it! The packaging is a bit annoying!
definitely do not recommend this product unless you're skin is the colour of the simpsons!

Urban Decay products are just not for me.
I am very pale with pink undertones and all UD's foundations are yellow, so even illusion(the lightest shade) is too dark for me.
it's really thick and the smallest amount looks cakey and if you try to spread it, it all sticks to your fingers instead of your face. it's almost impossible to wash off your hands, and it smells.
it is however, easy enough to get out of the bottle. just turn it up side down(with the lid still closed) and shake or pat the bottom of the bottle so it all runs to the top. the lid even screws off completely so it will just pour out. there is nothing that difficult about getting the product out of the bottle.
if you tried squeezing alone you'd get nothing for a minute and then it would all shoot out. so TAP before you squeeze. if needs be, store it upside down.
this also brings out spots on my face so overall I don't like it. yes it was my own fault because the colour is totally off, but it looked fine on my hand, I should have asked an UD sales assistant to put it on my face.
so if you have pink undertones in your skin, DO NOT get ANY urban decay foundations, they are all YELLOW based.

I'm really loving Urban Decay products, I really loved the Surreal Skin Foundation powder, soo i thought this cant be too bad.
Well to be honest, I've been monitoring this foundation for 2 weeks now and I find its no good for me.
In terms of coverage, this foundation has none. My skin is fair good, I dont get oily, or breakouts often, and to be far, this didn't give me any of such symptoms.
The only thing I hated about this foundation was the coverage, durability and packaging. It has no coverage, and it didn't even last till noon on a work day.
The packaging is really cute, but not necessary, I prefer something that is easy to dispense.
This is the first product from Urban decay that really disappointed me.

If only UD would change the packaging for this foundation, I'd probably buy this again. I'm NC37 on MAC studio fix and I tried this foundation in Hallucination (I have slightly olive undertone). The shade matches me better than MAC which has more yellow undertone. The finish is also very smooth and not as matte/heavy as MAC, which I favor. Oil control is so-so, I think it's a tie with MAC studio fix.

You have to squeeze and squeeze for the foundation to come out! The bottle looks cute BUT it's so impracticable.
I wasted money, DO NOT BUY IT!
It's very oily and the coverage is light to medium.

So I bought this on recommendation of a girl at Sephora after deciding my Bare Escentuals didn't look good on me. I have high demands for foundation and this just didn't cut it for me. I see it works for some and the positives are it felt light and sheer, but covered well. But for me with acne prone oily skin, it didn't look good, I had to control the shine and this didn't. It didn't seem to last all day like I want from a foundation, even with a primer. It just didn't work for me.

Okay, the bottle is adorable!! But you've got to turn it over and shake it into your palm to get any out. Many messy splatters later, you've got a very smelly, very liquidy foundation in your palm. It was STINKY. I don't know, kind of like glue? Ew. It reminds me of something, but I can't put my finger on it. And it was liquidy, yet very dry and hard to work with...like it dried too quickly on my skin for me to be able to blend it at all. The shade i got was Illusion, and for my NC20 skin, it was a great match. But I wouldn't ever repurchase (which is fine, cuz I think they've dc'd it in just the past 2 weeks anyway!). My BFF has the universal shade Surreal Skin powder and it looks fab on her, so I may end up trying that instead.

I HATE THIS! i am warning you in advance: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! i was fooled. i was searching sephora for a oil free and non-comedogenic liquid foundation and he only one i could find was this. i read about it and it said it was for sensitive and acne-prone skin. this was what i had been searching for! then i went on makeup alley and read the revews. there were mixed reviewsso i went to sephora and bought it anyway. i tried it on in the store and it looked like the perfect shade and it applied beautifully! then i went home applied it on my face and it was this STICKY THICK PASTE from hell!it was completely noticeable and hard to blend since it was so awfully thick and pasty. the bottle also makes it hard to get the product out. please dont be fooled by this SATAN IN A BOTTLE!

R.I.P. Studio Fix Fluid!
i have no idea why people dont like this, its amazing and it actually gives really good coverage. i was scared it would be too light, im NC45 in mac but this is perfect! beware lighter skinned girls, these shades are really yellow, more suited for tan girls but its perfect on me! I have severe hyperpigmentation so i usually use alot of foundation but this is light and non cakey. get it you wont regret it.
*the only thing is this makes my face slightly itchy...

I don't understand why so many people dislike this... I went to sephora and had one of the ladies try it on me in the shade dream and it looked amazing! I have slight rosacea and the yellow undertone really helped minimize the redness I loved how it made my face look flawless as well the only downside of this is that it made me break out in one area of my face so I returned it I really want to try it again though and it see if it will make me break out I really liked it a lot!

I'm writing this review, in comparison with my MAC studio fix, and I would say that both these products are of the same caliber. On one hand UD surreal skin feels much lighter than MAC, and gives the same amount of coverage, but I find it tries to quickly and is more difficult to blend. UD doesn't break me out, while MAC occasionally gives me small bumps if I wear it everyday. The packaging of UD is a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, you can get the foundation out with ease.
Also, the colour range of UD surreal skin is very limited. I am NC 44 with studio fix, and use the darkest colour Vision, but even that is a tinge lighter than my regular skin tone, so this product is def. a no-go for women with darker skin tones.
Price-wise they are about the same, with UD costing a dollar more, and having more product. Overall I would consider UD a summer foundation (even though it is lighter than my skin tone) because it feels very light on my face compared to MAC studio fix.

I has an SA at Sephora apply this foundation on me to see how it would look. It looked flawless (although I didn't need such heavy coverage), but as it dried it felt like I glued rubber to my face. Yuck! It felt awful on my face and when I touched it with my hand it felt odd and rubbery.
Urban Decay has fun colors for eyes, cheeks and lips, but I don't think they know squat about skin care so their foundation is severely lacking in quality.

Okay so I may sound crazy, I am wearing this on half my face, in illusion. The other half of my face is MAC select spf, Both with blot powder over. Matching wise I find illusion to either be transparent or match me perfectly, or be a bit light( but i blame that on the overpowder I applied) anyway. Feeling wise the MAC feels lightly heavier like I can constantly feel it, not so much with the UD, except when i make outrageous faces and the skin is either constricted or stretched.
So it does not feel heavy its only slightly covering but evens skin tone, and does not have spf,,,, but its vegan and works for me.

Firstly, let me just say that this lasts a helluva long time. I wear some amount of foundation nearly every single day. I bought my first bottle of this in April of this year and there is still a fair whack left. I have only moved on to my new bottle because..well...read on, haha!
I don't know if its just me, but the only downer for me is even though I bottle 2 bottles of the same shade (dream) a few months apart, the newer bottle is a slightly lighter colour, that is an even better match for my skin tone. The original bottle was good, but I had to be super careful with blending because it was slightly darker!
If I could add one thing to this product, its SPF, but I'm content using my SPF-moisturiser for that purpose.
Apply SS with a skunk brush for best results. I've tried with my fingers and its still a superior product, but the finish is just not comparable.
You do have to be quick with the blending, and you can't load the brush up to save time, but thats okay, cos I'm sticking with this lovely cruelty free foundation for as long as UD make it!

This Genie in a Bottle is admittedly a bit difficult to free (the bottle is kind of awkward) but once you let it loose on your complexion, get ready to get gorgeous. My skin just glows under this medium to full coverage foundation. I have never experienced a foundation like this and I’ve tried everything. With any foundation that provides this kind of coverage, you will need to spend a little time in the mirror getting your blending down right which is actually easy due to the products easy slip. If you have sun damage, acne marks, scarring, rosacea or any other flaws you’d like to cover, this foundation is for you. It will cover naturally and invisibly. Love it.

I was on an UD kick trying all their products after I fell in love with a few of their e/s. I didn't like this foundation. It is very hard to blend and drying. I used Supernova and it matched well. This gave me a matte finish which was what I was looking for, however it was drying and did emphasize any dry patches. Another factor that made this a downer was how it looked in photos; during and after dancing at the clubs my foundation had run off, face was shiny and a little uneven. By comparison to Benefit Playstick and Giorgio Armani LSF, it was horrible; with the latter two foundations (one creamy and the other liquid respectively) left my skin smooth, even and my scars from an early accident were still camouflaged. I'm returning this foundation and going back to Benefit Playstick and Armani LSF. Also, the packaging for this foundation maybe cute but very impractical; any squeezing to this "genie bottle" package lets out too much product. If you just hold it upside down without squeezing to let the product may save you from wasting but its annoyingly a waste of time. The texture of this foundation when you try to blend is a little like glue, it begins to become rough and dries quickly. Not a good product from UD.

i can't believe this product made so many people break out.. i thought i had fairly sensitive skin, but there are absolutely no complaints about my skins reaction to this foundation. the coverage could be a lot better but overall, i'd buy this again.
